European Alternatives to UiPath
Looking for a European alternative to UiPath? UiPath's legal terms name two group entities, UiPath SRL in Bucharest, Romania, and UiPath Inc. with its principal place of business at One Vanderbilt Ave in New York, and its privacy policy names both as data controllers. UiPath's pricing page lists Automation Cloud, Test Cloud and a Community plan described as free forever, but the plans above the free tier are not priced on the pages we read.
The European RPA tools below come from German, Finnish, Danish and UK vendors, and several are open source or free to start. UiPath is the broader platform with agentic AI, process intelligence and document processing, so most of these tools replace the robot layer rather than the whole suite.
How we rank these tools — 4-step process
-
1
European ownership, verified
The company is headquartered and incorporated in the EU, EEA, the UK, Switzerland or Israel, and processes customer data in Europe or Israel. A US parent company disqualifies a tool from this page regardless of where its servers are.
-
2
Category fit and hands-on review
What the tool actually does, who it suits, and where it falls short — checked against the vendor’s own documentation, changelog and pricing page rather than its marketing copy.
-
3
Compliance and pricing check
GDPR posture, hosting location and the prices quoted on this page are verified against the vendor’s public pricing before publication, and re-checked when we revisit the category.
-
4
Position on this page
Placement on this page can be paid, and that can affect which tools appear here and the order they appear in. It never buys a good review: a tool that fails the checks above is not here at any price, and payment does not change the shortcomings we write about. A vendor can ask us to correct a factual error — not to remove a criticism.
Vendors can pay for visibility on this page. It never changes what an entry says about a product, including the criticism, and we earn nothing when you click through to a vendor. Vendors can pay for more visibility, higher up on the review pages; it never affects which tools are listed. Editorial policy

Key takeaways
- UiPath's legal terms name UiPath SRL in Bucharest and UiPath Inc. in New York as the group entities, and its privacy policy names both as data controllers.
- UiPath's pricing page lists Automation Cloud, Test Cloud and a Community plan described as free forever, and the paid plans were not priced on the pages we read.
- Ui.Vision RPA from Germany is free for personal and commercial use and runs locally on the user's machine.
- OpenRPA from Denmark and Robot Framework from Finland are open-source options with no licence fee for the core software.
- Digital Workforce Outsmart from Helsinki sells managed RPA, and its RPA plan runs third-party robot technologies including UiPath.
Why people leave UiPath
UiPath sells a platform for automating office work, and robotic process automation is the part most buyers know it for. A software robot clicks, types and copies data through the screens of other applications, so a task that a clerk does in SAP or a bank portal can run without that clerk. UiPath's navigation now groups the offer under business orchestration, agentic AI, RPA, API automation, document processing, process intelligence and a data layer.
The legal picture is more mixed than for most American incumbents. UiPath's legal terms name two group entities: UiPath SRL in Bucharest, Romania, and UiPath Inc., whose principal place of business is One Vanderbilt Avenue in New York.
The privacy policy names both as data controllers, and it points to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework for data processed by UiPath Inc. A buyer in Europe therefore deals with a group that has a real Romanian entity, and also with a US parent.
People look beyond UiPath for practical reasons as often as legal ones. The pricing page lists Automation Cloud, Test Cloud and a Community plan described as free forever, but the paid plans above the free tier are not priced on the pages we read. A robot licence is a budget line that needs a sales conversation, and the sub-processor list in the privacy policy adds US companies such as Salesforce, Atlassian and Okta.
- Two group entities, and a US parent in the contract chain UiPath's legal terms define "UiPath" as UiPath SRL in Bucharest and UiPath Inc. in New York, together with all affiliates. The privacy policy makes both of them controllers of your personal data. That is more European presence than many American vendors show, yet the US parent still sits in the structure, and its transfers rely on the Data Privacy Framework, which a European vendor with EU-only processing would not need.
- Paid plans are not priced on the public pages The pricing page offers a free Community plan and two paid product lines, Automation Cloud and Test Cloud, but the amounts above the free tier were not visible to us. The free tier is described as a basic tier for personal automations at limited scale. Anyone who plans a production rollout must go through sales, which makes it hard to compare UiPath against tools that publish a number.
- The platform is wider than most teams use UiPath markets agentic AI, process intelligence, document processing, a data layer and testing under one roof. A team that only needs robots to move data between two applications pays attention to a surface much larger than its job. The European tools below mostly replace the robot layer, which is why many of them cost less and take less time to learn.
- Support, authentication and chat run on US sub-processors UiPath's privacy policy names Auth0 from Okta for account authentication, Salesforce and Atlassian as main sub-processors for support, and Cloudflare and Tribble for its chat features. None of that is unusual for a global vendor. It does mean that a customer who raises a ticket or signs in sends data through several US companies before a UiPath employee sees it.
What you have to replace, not just match
UiPath is a family of capabilities, and no single European vendor replaces all of it. Start by listing which ones your robots actually use: screen automation on a Windows desktop, browser automation, API calls between systems, scheduling and a central control room, document extraction, or process mining.
The robot layer has the most European candidates. Ui.Vision RPA from Germany and OpenRPA from Denmark handle desktop and browser work, Robot Framework from Finland covers code-driven tasks, and AmdoSoft b4, WIANCO EMMA and Netcall Liberty RPA are packaged commercial platforms. Orchestration and workflow logic move to n8n, Camunda or Node-RED. Test automation, which UiPath sells as Test Cloud, maps to Leapwork from Copenhagen.
Agentic AI, process intelligence and the document-understanding models are where the gap is widest. The European tools on this page do not match UiPath's own models there. Plan to keep that part with UiPath, to wire in a separate document-extraction service, or to accept a smaller scope on day one.

How each alternative compares to UiPath
Best for: Individuals and small teams automating browser and desktop tasks on their own computers without a licence
Ui.Vision RPA is built by a9t9 software GmbH in Germany and runs as a browser extension for Chrome, Edge and Firefox. Against UiPath, the biggest difference is price and footprint. The free edition covers personal and commercial use, and the software runs on the user's machine with no cloud component.
Desktop automation needs the separate XModules app, which adds computer vision and OCR for screens without selectors. The PRO edition costs US$299 per year and Enterprise starts at US$999 per year. The vendor also lists an AI macro assistant and an MCP bridge, which UiPath's agent features cover on a larger scale.
What Ui.Vision RPA does better than UiPath
- Costs nothing for commercial use, where UiPath's free Community plan is described as limited scale
- Keeps all automation data on the local machine instead of a vendor cloud
- Publishes its PRO and Enterprise prices in dollars
- Runs on Windows, macOS and Linux
Where Ui.Vision RPA is a step down from UiPath
- Lists no central orchestrator, role-based access or robot fleet management
- Offers nothing comparable to UiPath's process intelligence or document processing
- Prices Enterprise in US dollars rather than euros
Standout against UiPath. Ui.Vision RPA is the only tool on this page that is free for commercial use and runs without any cloud component.
Best for: Developers and QA engineers who write automation as text and manage scheduling themselves
Robot Framework is maintained by Robot Framework Ry, a registered association in Helsinki, with business ID 2754775-1. Next to UiPath it sits at the opposite end of the spectrum: no studio, no drag-and-drop, no vendor. Tasks are written in a keyword-driven syntax, and libraries in Python, Java and other languages extend what the keywords can do.
The site states no licensing fees and lists hundreds of third-party libraries, community events and a certification. What it does not list is a recorder, an orchestrator or a support contract. A team that picks it has to supply its own scheduler or a CI system for what UiPath handles centrally.
What Robot Framework does better than UiPath
- No licensing fees stated, against UiPath plans that need a sales conversation
- Uses one syntax for test automation and RPA tasks
- Has no hosted component, so nothing leaves your infrastructure by design
- Is backed by a foundation instead of a single vendor
Where Robot Framework is a step down from UiPath
- Needs Python or Java skills where UiPath offers a visual designer
- Includes no orchestrator, scheduling or monitoring console
- Lists no paid vendor support
Standout against UiPath. Robot Framework is the only tool here that is a foundation-run framework, so no vendor can change its terms.
Best for: Windows-centred teams that want open-source robots with a central orchestrator and scripting freedom
OpenRPA comes from OpenIAP ApS in Denmark, whose terms apply Danish law with a court in Randers. Compared with UiPath it covers a similar ground: Windows, SAP, Java, browser, mainframe, image and Office automation, with assisted and unattended robots and reactive triggers. OpenCore and OpenRPA are open source and free.
Scripting works in C#, VB, Python, PowerShell and AutoHotKey, and robots can run through RDP sessions or hand off to Node-RED. Premium licences are priced on request and issued monthly through app.openiap.io. The terms state an uptime aim of 98%, with no service level agreement, and paid support runs through partners.
What OpenRPA does better than UiPath
- Includes an orchestrator in the free open-source OpenCore
- Lets you script robots in C#, VB, Python, PowerShell or AutoHotKey
- Offers a Danish contracting entity under Danish law
- Can be self-hosted or taken as a cloud subscription
Where OpenRPA is a step down from UiPath
- Gives no service level agreement, only an uptime aim of 98%
- Leans towards Windows robots and has a smaller partner network
- Keeps premium licence prices on request
Standout against UiPath. OpenRPA is the only open-source tool on this page that ships an orchestrator and unattended robots in its free core.
Best for: Operations staff who automate scraping, form filling and copy-paste inside a browser
Axiom.ai is run by Axiom Ai Limited, registered in the United Kingdom under company number 11171985, which is covered by an EU adequacy decision but sits outside the EEA. You build a bot in a Chrome extension, or describe it to an AI, and run it in Axiom's cloud or in the desktop app. It is a browser tool, not a full RPA platform.
Plans count runtime hours: Starter $15 for 5 hours, Pro $50 for 30, Pro Max $150 for 100 and Ultimate $250 for 250 hours. New users get 2 free hours. Cloud runs allow one bot at a time on Pro and two on Pro Max, and the code tools are marked Beta.
What Axiom.ai does better than UiPath
- Publishes monthly prices from $15, where UiPath's paid plans were not priced
- Builds a bot in a Chrome extension with AI assistance
- Lets desktop runs stay entirely on your machine
- Provides Step and Orchestrate APIs for developers
Where Axiom.ai is a step down from UiPath
- Handles browser work only, with no SAP or mainframe screen automation
- Limits cloud concurrency on lower plans
- Bills slow pages against a runtime-hour allowance
Standout against UiPath. Axiom.ai is the only tool here that bills in runtime hours and lets you pick cloud or desktop for each bot.
Best for: Technical teams that connect systems through APIs and want to self-host the credentials
n8n comes from n8n GmbH in Berlin, founded in 2019. It automates through APIs rather than by driving screens, so it replaces the parts of a UiPath estate where an application has an interface to call. The Community Edition is free and self-hosted, and Cloud starts at about EUR 24 per month.
Any node can run JavaScript or Python, and native AI agent nodes work with LangChain and can point at a locally hosted model. The Sustainable Use Licence is source-available rather than classic open source. Self-hosting means running the server, updates, backups and a queue when volume grows.
What n8n does better than UiPath
- Charges no per-task fees when self-hosted
- Adds JavaScript and Python code nodes in any workflow
- Runs AI agents on European or local infrastructure
- Publishes a starting price of about EUR 24 per month for Cloud
Where n8n is a step down from UiPath
- Cannot drive desktop applications that offer no API
- Needs more technical fluency than a business-user designer
- Has a smaller catalogue than the largest SaaS connectors
Standout against UiPath. n8n is the only tool on this page where a self-hosted workflow server keeps every credential inside your own network.
Best for: Industrial and IoT teams wiring sensors, brokers and APIs on modest local hardware
Node-RED started in IBM's Hursley laboratory in the United Kingdom and is now an OpenJS Foundation project, first released in 2013. Against UiPath it solves a different problem. You wire nodes together on a canvas, and the strength lies in connecting machines: MQTT, Modbus, serial, GPIO and many industrial protocols arrive through community nodes.
It is free and open source and runs on a Raspberry Pi or an industrial gateway. There is no company, no account and no subscription, so no vendor contract either. Version control, team collaboration and approvals are missing, and some of the roughly 4,000 community nodes are no longer maintained.
What Node-RED does better than UiPath
- Costs nothing and has no vendor, so no data processing agreement to negotiate
- Runs next to the equipment on a Raspberry Pi without an internet connection
- Covers industrial protocols such as MQTT and Modbus through community nodes
- Lets a function node drop into JavaScript
Where Node-RED is a step down from UiPath
- Does not automate desktop screens or office applications
- Has no built-in team collaboration, versioning or approval flow
- Offers weaker SaaS integrations than n8n
Standout against UiPath. Node-RED is the only tool here with no vendor at all, which leaves you as the sole controller and processor.
Best for: Engineering teams that model business processes in BPMN and DMN and run them on their own infrastructure
Camunda Services GmbH is registered at Amtsgericht Charlottenburg under HRB 113230 B, with its imprint on Zossener Straße in Berlin, and was founded in 2008. Compared with UiPath, Camunda replaces the orchestration layer, not the robot. It models, runs and monitors processes on the BPMN and DMN standards and can call robots, people and services as steps.
Its parts are the Desktop Modeler, Web Modeler, a process engine, Operate, Tasklist, Identity and Optimize. Self-Managed use for development needs no license, while production use needs an Enterprise license. Camunda SaaS has a 30-day trial. No amounts appear on the pricing page, and the SaaS region is not stated.
What Camunda does better than UiPath
- Builds on open BPMN and DMN standards instead of a vendor format
- Lets developers run it Self-Managed on their own infrastructure
- Offers free development use with no license required
- Names a Berlin entity with a published court registration
Where Camunda is a step down from UiPath
- Includes no robot that clicks through desktop screens
- Describes no low-code interface builder for business users
- Shows no production prices, so budgeting needs a call
Standout against UiPath. Camunda is the only tool on this page built around BPMN and DMN process models rather than recorded screen steps.
Best for: UK organisations, including the public sector, that already run or plan the wider Netcall Liberty platform
Netcall Liberty RPA is sold by Netcall plc of Bedford, England, company number 01812912. It offers a drag-and-drop low-code builder with prebuilt components, and bots that work at the user layer, without needing APIs from the target application. Central control, analytics, role-based access, encryption and bot activity logging are listed.
The product is part of a larger platform that also covers low-code tools and intelligent document processing, which suits an existing Netcall customer. The pages we read show no price, no deployment model and no attended or unattended description. The company is in the UK, which has an adequacy decision but is outside the EEA.
What Netcall Liberty RPA does better than UiPath
- Offers a low-code builder aimed at non-technical staff
- Lists role-based access and bot activity logging
- Comes from a plc with a published company number
Where Netcall Liberty RPA is a step down from UiPath
- Shows no price, where Ui.Vision RPA and Axiom.ai publish theirs
- States no hosting or deployment model
- Gives its best value only inside the wider Liberty platform
Standout against UiPath. Netcall Liberty RPA is the only tool here sold as a module of a wider UK low-code platform.
Best for: German-speaking enterprises that run SAP and want a local RPA supplier with a studio and controller
AmdoSoft b4 is the product of AmdoSoft Systems GmbH in Munich, whose site carries a copyright line from 1998 to 2026. The suite splits into b4 Designer Studio, b4 Controller and Agent, and b4 Dashboard. Beyond RPA it names synthetic monitoring, IT automation and software testing.
The site shows SAP PM bot examples. A price request form replaces public prices, and a free trial button is shown whose terms we did not read. The hosting model, supported platforms and licence terms are not stated on the pages we read, so a pilot is needed before a decision.
What AmdoSoft b4 does better than UiPath
- Splits design, control and reporting into named components like UiPath
- Comes from a Munich company that publishes its imprint
- Includes synthetic monitoring next to RPA
Where AmdoSoft b4 is a step down from UiPath
- Publishes no price, only a request form
- States no hosting model or supported platforms
- Has no free edition listed, unlike UiPath's Community plan
Standout against UiPath. AmdoSoft b4 is the only tool here that bundles robots with synthetic monitoring and IT automation in one German suite.
Best for: Regulated German organisations whose non-IT staff build automations and need audit documentation
WIANCO EMMA is made by WIANCO OTT Robotics GmbH in Seeheim-Jugenheim, registered at Amtsgericht Darmstadt under HRB 98911. The vendor describes no-code design for business users, user-interface automation across applications and rule-based decisions. It reads email, CRM, Excel and PDF content.
Two features stand out against UiPath: documentation of each step for audits, and the use of generative AI inside workflows. The product pages are in German, no price, hosting location or platform list is shown, and the productivity figures on the site are the vendor's own claims.
What WIANCO EMMA does better than UiPath
- Generates step documentation aimed at audits
- Targets business users with a no-code design
- Works across applications without system integrations
- Names a German GmbH with a register number
Where WIANCO EMMA is a step down from UiPath
- Shows no price, deployment model or hosting location
- Publishes product pages in German only
- Leaves productivity claims unverified
Standout against UiPath. WIANCO EMMA is the only tool on this page that writes audit documentation of every automation step by default.
Best for: Enterprise QA teams testing SAP, Salesforce and Dynamics without writing code
Leapwork ApS has its imprint at Store Kongensgade 72C in Copenhagen with VAT number DK38168495. It matches UiPath's testing line rather than its robots. Testers build flows visually, and the platform covers SAP, Salesforce, Dynamics 365, Oracle and ServiceNow, with Playwright, desktop, API and performance testing under one set of governance controls.
The terms mention SaaS and on-premises products, and the vendor names Handelsblatt, Bestseller and BNP Paribas in customer quotes. A free Leapwork Play option is mentioned for developers, while enterprise buying runs through sales. No public price list exists and the data location is not stated.
What Leapwork does better than UiPath
- Offers on-premises products next to SaaS
- Combines desktop, API and performance testing in one platform
- Builds tests visually for business testers
- Names a Copenhagen entity with a Danish VAT number
Where Leapwork is a step down from UiPath
- Is built for enterprise estates and feels heavy for small teams
- Shows no public pricing
- Has no general business-process robots
Standout against UiPath. Leapwork is the only tool here designed for testing business applications visually rather than automating office tasks.
Digital Workforce Outsmart
A Nordic managed service that runs robots for you, some of them UiPath
Best for: Companies that prefer to buy RPA as a managed service from a Finnish supplier
Digital Workforce Outsmart is sold by Digital Workforce Services Oy in Helsinki, which also has offices in Stockholm, Warwick and New York. It combines multi-technology RPA, a low-code BPM platform as a service and an IDP back-end as a service. Dynamic scheduling, a development VM and managed run services are listed.
The plans are Go, Scale and Enterprise, billed by usage with no prices shown. The RPA plan runs third-party robot technologies, UiPath among them, so Outsmart can sit on top of UiPath rather than replace it. That makes it a way to outsource operations, not to leave the robot engine.
What Digital Workforce Outsmart does better than UiPath
- Takes over robot operation through managed run services
- Bundles RPA, low-code BPM and document processing under one plan
- Names a Finnish contracting entity with a published address
Where Digital Workforce Outsmart is a step down from UiPath
- Is not a standalone robot engine, since its RPA plan runs third-party technologies
- Shows no prices or hosting region
- Operates offices in the UK and the USA besides Finland
Standout against UiPath. Digital Workforce Outsmart is the only tool here that is a managed service able to run on top of UiPath itself.
What actually breaks when you switch
Most of the cost of leaving UiPath is rebuilding. Workflows, selectors and exception rules do not transfer into another tool, and the European tools on this page list no UiPath import. Budget time to document each process, rebuild it and run both versions side by side for a period before the old licence ends.
Contracts and scheduling need attention too. If UiPath currently runs your queues and schedules, list them before you choose, because Ui.Vision RPA, Robot Framework and Axiom.ai lack a full control room and need an external scheduler. Ask what happens to document extraction models and any Marketplace components your robots call, since those stay on the UiPath side.
Can I run my existing UiPath workflows in another tool?
Not directly. A UiPath workflow is built with UiPath's own tooling and executed by a UiPath robot, and none of the European tools on this page lists an import for that format. You rebuild the logic: the steps, the selectors that find buttons and fields, the exception handling and the schedules.
The rebuild is smaller than it sounds when the process is simple. A Ui.Vision macro or an OpenRPA workflow can reproduce a ten-step data entry task in an afternoon, and the old workflow doubles as the specification. Processes with dozens of branches deserve a pilot before you commit.
Is the free UiPath Community plan enough?
UiPath's pricing page calls the Community plan free forever and describes the basic tier as personal automations at limited scale. For learning and for a handful of personal tasks that is a legitimate answer, and the plan is a real strength of UiPath against tools with only a trial.
The limit shows up when a process becomes a business dependency. Ui.Vision RPA is free for commercial use as well, and OpenRPA and Robot Framework carry no licence fee for the core software, so a European route to a free production robot exists without a plan ceiling.
Which one to pick
For a single machine or a small team that wants free commercial use, start with Ui.Vision RPA. For a free platform with unattended robots and an orchestrator, OpenRPA is the nearer match, and Robot Framework suits developers who want to write tasks as code. Axiom.ai fits browser-only office tasks.
If the work is a mix of API calls and system integration, choose n8n or Node-RED, and add Camunda when processes need BPMN models and human tasks. Packaged commercial suites with a European vendor contract are AmdoSoft b4, WIANCO EMMA and Netcall Liberty RPA. Choose Leapwork for testing and Digital Workforce Outsmart if you want robots operated for you.
Frequently Asked Questions
For free desktop and browser robots, Ui.Vision RPA from Germany. For an open-source platform with an orchestrator, OpenRPA from Denmark. For code-based automation, Robot Framework from Finland. For packaged commercial RPA from a European vendor, AmdoSoft b4 in Munich, WIANCO EMMA in Germany or Netcall Liberty RPA in the UK. The best fit depends on whether you need a recorder, an orchestrator or a vendor contract.
Both appear in its legal terms. UiPath SRL is incorporated in Bucharest, Romania, and UiPath Inc. has its principal place of business in New York. The privacy policy names both as data controllers. The group is therefore not purely American, but the US parent is part of the contract chain, and UiPath relies on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework for data processed by UiPath Inc.
UiPath's pricing page lists a Community plan described as free forever, plus Automation Cloud and Test Cloud, whose amounts were not shown on the pages we read. Public European prices are easier to find: Ui.Vision PRO costs US$299 per year, Axiom.ai starts at $15 per month, and n8n Cloud starts at about EUR 24 per month. Several others require a quote.
Yes. OpenRPA from OpenIAP in Denmark and Robot Framework from the Robot Framework Foundation in Finland are open source, and OpenRPA includes an orchestrator in its OpenCore. Node-RED is free and open source for flow-based automation. n8n is free to self-host under its Sustainable Use Licence, which is source-available rather than classic open source.
Only in part. The tools here mostly replace robots, scheduling and workflow logic. UiPath's agentic AI, process intelligence and document-understanding products have no direct equivalent among them. n8n supports AI agent nodes, and WIANCO EMMA can call generative AI inside a workflow, but a team that depends on UiPath's own models should keep that part.
