European Alternatives to Pendo

Looking for a European alternative to Pendo? Pendo.io, Inc. is a Delaware corporation, and its Software Services Agreement is governed by Delaware law, with disputes sent to the state or federal courts in Wilmington, Delaware.

Eleven European tools cover the two halves of the job: five that combine in-app guidance with usage analytics, and six for product analytics and session replay, from companies in the Czech Republic, France, the United Kingdom, Germany, Poland, Denmark and Italy.

How we rank these tools — 4-step process
  1. 1
    European ownership, verified

The company is headquartered and incorporated in the EU, EEA or Switzerland, and processes customer data in Europe. A US parent company disqualifies a tool from this page regardless of where its servers are.

  2. 2
    Category fit and hands-on review

What the tool actually does, who it suits, and where it falls short — checked against the vendor’s own documentation, changelog and pricing page rather than its marketing copy.

  3. 3
    Compliance and pricing check

GDPR posture, hosting location and the prices quoted on this page are verified against the vendor’s public pricing before publication, and re-checked when we revisit the category.

  4. 4
    Position on this page

Placement on this page can be paid, and that can affect which tools appear here and the order they appear in. It never buys a good review: a tool that fails the checks above is not here at any price, and payment does not change the shortcomings we write about. A vendor can ask us to correct a factual error — not to remove a criticism.

Vendors can pay for visibility on this page. It never changes what an entry says about a product, including the criticism, and we earn nothing when you click through to a vendor. Paid placement can affect which tools appear here and the order they appear in. Editorial policy

Key takeaways

  • Pendo.io, Inc. is a Delaware corporation whose agreement applies Delaware law and Wilmington courts; Pendo documents an EU hosting environment, but the contracting party stays the same.
  • Product Fruits (Prague) and Jimo (Cachan, France) are the closest in shape: tours, checklists and surveys with analytics, from companies under Czech and French law.
  • Userlane (Munich), Lemon Learning (Paris) and Newired (Turin) target large enterprise software and quote prices on request.
  • Swetrix, LiveSession, OpenReplay, Mouseflow, TWIPLA and Piwik PRO cover analytics and replay only; LiveSession, Mouseflow and TWIPLA have permanent free plans, and OpenReplay and Swetrix can be self-hosted.
  • Pendo is stronger on combined guides, analytics and replay in one product, and on depth for large apps; none of the eleven matches all three at that scale.

Why people leave Pendo

Pendo is a product experience platform: you install a snippet in your web or mobile app, it records how people use it, and you put guides on top, such as tooltips, walkthroughs, announcements and surveys. Its pricing page lists a Free plan for up to 500 monthly active users (MAUs) with product analytics, in-app guides, roadmaps and NPS surveys, and Base, Core and Ultimate plans with prices on request. Session replay starts on Core.

The seller is Pendo.io, Inc., a Delaware corporation. Its Software Services Agreement is governed by the laws of Delaware, with claims going to the state or federal courts in Wilmington and no arbitration clause.

Its data processing addendum relies on the Data Privacy Framework where Pendo is certified and otherwise on the EU standard contractual clauses. This is a contract question more than a data location one: Pendo documents an EU environment on Google Cloud, so data can sit in Europe, but the party you contract with does not change.

This page covers both halves of the product. Five European tools combine in-app guidance with usage analytics, and six cover product analytics and session replay without guides. They are not interchangeable, and none is a one-for-one copy of Pendo, so decide first whether you need the guides, the analytics, or both.

  • Your contract is with a Delaware company under Delaware law Pendo's Software Services Agreement names Pendo.io, Inc., a Delaware corporation, applies Delaware law and sends disputes to courts in Wilmington. The tools below contract with entities in the Czech Republic, France, the United Kingdom (Scotland), Germany, Poland, Denmark and Italy, which for most of them means local or French, Czech or Polish law. Where we could read the terms, we say so, and where we could not, we say that too.
  • EU hosting is available, but it does not change who you sign with Pendo offers separate US, EU, Japan and Australia environments on Google Cloud, and the customer chooses. That addresses where data is stored. It does not change the contracting party, and Pendo's own EU data-subject-rights page still describes the services as hosted and operated in the United States, so ask Pendo which environment your plan would use.
  • Pendo's price depends on your user count and is not published Apart from the Free plan (500 MAUs), Pendo's Base, Core and Ultimate plans are priced on request and by MAU. Several European tools here publish more: Swetrix lists €17 and €35 a month, Piwik PRO lists a Business plan from €36, and LiveSession, Mouseflow and TWIPLA each have a permanent free plan. Others, such as Userlane, Lemon Learning and Newired, are also quote-based, so you gain nothing on that point there.
  • You may not need all of Pendo Many teams use Pendo for either analytics or guides. If you only want to see where people drop off, session replay and funnels from LiveSession, OpenReplay or Mouseflow are narrower and cheaper to try. If you only want tours and checklists, Product Fruits or Jimo cover that directly. The tools that combine both are fewer and each is lighter than Pendo's Ultimate plan.

What you have to replace, not just match

List what Pendo does for you today: which guides are live, which dashboards your team actually opens, whether you use session replay, and which events you track. Rebuilding ten guides is a week of work. Re-instrumenting years of tracked events is a longer project, so a tool that lets you start from a clean, small event list is often easier than a lift-and-shift.

Run the new tool next to Pendo on one product area for a few weeks before you cut over. Both snippets can run in the same app, which lets you compare numbers, and you keep your old guides until the replacements have been checked on each browser and role you support.

Product Fruits

the closest in shape to Pendo's guides, from Prague

Prague, Czech Republic

  • Which law reaches it. eu-eea. Pendo is run from the United States, so the CLOUD Act obliges the provider to hand over data on a valid order regardless of which country the servers are in.

Best for: Product teams that want tours, checklists and surveys with built-in analytics for their own app

Product Fruits is run by Product Fruits s.r.o. in Prague (company ID 09552618, registered at the Municipal Court in Prague, file C 338063). Its terms apply Czech law, and the privacy policy names the same company as controller.

Its pricing page lists Starter, Pro and Business plans based on monthly active users, and says all plans include tours, checklists, surveys, a feedback widget and analytics. Higher plans lift the limits on flows, languages and segments. The amounts on the page are in US dollars, so no figure is quoted here.

It works with single-page apps built in React, Vue and Angular and integrates with tools such as HubSpot, Mixpanel and Salesforce on higher plans.

What Product Fruits does better than Pendo

  • Plans listed by MAU on a public page

  • Smaller than Pendo in scale and integrations

Standout against Pendo. Guides, surveys and analytics sit in one product at a published, MAU-based price structure.

Piwik PRO

privacy-focused analytics suite, the weakest match for Pendo

Wroclaw, PolandFree core plan / paid plans on request#5 in Web Analytics

  • Which law reaches it. EU (Poland). Pendo is run from the United States, so the CLOUD Act obliges the provider to hand over data on a valid order regardless of which country the servers are in.
  • Where the data sits. EU-only data centres, no US transfers for EU customers.
  • Source code. Closed source, as Pendo is.
  • Independently checked. GDPR.

Best for: Organisations that want analytics, a tag manager and consent management from one vendor

Piwik PRO SA is based at ul. Św. Antoniego 2/4 in Wrocław. Its privacy policy also names Piwik PRO GmbH in Berlin, and its contact page lists Piwik PRO LLC in New York. We could not read the terms, so we could not confirm which entity an EU customer contracts with or which law applies.

Its pricing page lists a Business plan from €36 a month with up to 2 million monthly actions and four modules (Analytics, Tag Manager, Data Activation and Consent Manager), and a 30-day trial without a card. Enterprise starts from €366 a month on annual billing.

It is a web analytics suite, with no in-app guides and no session replay we could confirm, so it covers the least of Pendo.

What Piwik PRO does better than Pendo

  • Published prices, where Pendo's paid plans are on request
  • Includes tag and consent management in the same suite
  • Polish headquarters

Where Piwik PRO is a step down from Pendo

  • No in-app guides and no replay confirmed
  • A US entity exists in the group, and the contracting entity for EU customers was not verified

Standout against Pendo. Analytics, tag manager and consent manager in one suite with a published business price.

What actually breaks when you switch

The hard part of leaving Pendo is rebuilding, not the account. Guides, segments and tracked events do not move over as files. Budget time to recreate each live guide, check it on every browser and role, and decide which events are worth tracking again.

Check the unit each tool charges on. Pendo and the guidance tools price on monthly active users, while LiveSession, Mouseflow and OpenReplay are session-based and TWIPLA is page-view based, so the same traffic can cost very different amounts. Several of these publish prices only in US dollars or on request.

None of these matches all of Pendo at its largest scale, with analytics, replay, guides, surveys and roadmaps in one product. If you rely on all of it, expect to combine two tools, such as Product Fruits or Jimo for guides with Swetrix or LiveSession for analytics and replay.

Is there a European tool that does what Pendo does?

Not exactly one. Product Fruits and Jimo are closest for the guidance side, with tours, checklists, surveys and analytics. Userlane, Lemon Learning and Newired combine guidance with usage measurement for enterprise software rollouts.

If your use of Pendo is mostly analytics and replay, the six analytics tools on this page cover that, but none also provides guides.

Which of these have a permanent free plan?

LiveSession lists a free plan with 1,000 sessions a month, Mouseflow 500 sessions a month, and TWIPLA 400 page views a month with limited recordings. OpenReplay and Swetrix can be self-hosted from their open-source editions, which are free apart from your own infrastructure. Jimo offers a one-month trial and Piwik PRO a 30-day trial, both without a card, and Swetrix a 14-day trial that needs a payment method.

Pendo's own Free plan covers up to 500 MAUs, so the free entry point is not unique to Pendo either.

Which tools publish a price?

Swetrix lists Standard at €17 and Plus at €35 a month, and Piwik PRO lists a Business plan from €36 a month. The rest either publish prices in US dollars that may vary by country (so we quote none), or sell on request, as Userlane, Lemon Learning and Newired do.

Check the current price page for the plan you need before comparing, because MAU-based and session-based pricing scale differently.

Can I keep my Pendo data when I move?

Not as a file that another tool imports. Plan to export what you need from Pendo, such as reports and the list of tracked events, and to rebuild guides by hand in the new tool. Historic analytics usually stay in Pendo until you cancel, so keep the export for the periods you may need to compare.

Which one to pick

If you mainly use Pendo for in-app guides, Product Fruits or Jimo is the place to start, and both include analytics. If you want guides across several business applications at an enterprise, Userlane, Lemon Learning and Newired are the ones to talk to.

If you mainly use Pendo for analytics and replay, Swetrix publishes a price and has an open-source edition, LiveSession and Mouseflow have free plans, and OpenReplay is the one for teams that want to self-host. TWIPLA and Piwik PRO are website analytics suites and fit a narrower case.

Be realistic about the gap. Pendo combines guides, analytics, replay, surveys and roadmaps in one place, and no single European tool here does all of it. Switch if you want a European contracting party and a local court, and keep Pendo if the combined product is what your team depends on.

Frequently Asked Questions

It depends on which half you use. For tours, checklists, surveys and analytics at an accessible level, Product Fruits and Jimo are the nearest. For enterprise rollouts of Salesforce, SAP or Workday, look at Userlane or Lemon Learning. For analytics and replay alone, start with LiveSession or OpenReplay.

There is a Free plan for up to 500 monthly active users, with product analytics, in-app guides, roadmaps and NPS surveys. The Base, Core and Ultimate plans are priced on request, based on MAUs. Session replay is included from the Core plan.

Swetrix lists Standard at €17 a month and Plus at €35 a month, with session replays, feature flags and A/B testing on Plus and a 14-day trial that requires a payment method. It has no free cloud plan, but a self-hostable Community Edition exists. Piwik PRO lists Business from €36 a month, with a 30-day trial and no card required.

The analytics-only tools do not provide guides.
