European Business Phone System Tools

A business phone system carries every customer call, voicemail and call recording, plus the metadata of who talks to whom. These European alternatives to 8x8 run the system under EU, UK or Swiss contracts, and several of them host in Germany or the EU.

How we rank these tools — 4-step process
  1. 1
    European ownership, verified

The company is headquartered and incorporated in the EU, EEA or Switzerland, and processes customer data in Europe. A US parent company disqualifies a tool from this page regardless of where its servers are.

  2. 2
    Category fit and hands-on review

What the tool actually does, who it suits, and where it falls short — checked against the vendor’s own documentation, changelog and pricing page rather than its marketing copy.

  3. 3
    Compliance and pricing check

GDPR posture, hosting location and the prices quoted on this page are verified against the vendor’s public pricing before publication, and re-checked when we revisit the category.

  4. 4
    Position on this page

Placement on this page can be paid, and that can affect the order tools appear in. It never buys a listing: a tool that fails the checks above is not here at any price, and payment does not change the shortcomings we write about. A vendor can ask us to correct a factual error — not to remove a criticism.

Vendors can pay for visibility on this page. It never changes what an entry says about a product, including the criticism, and we earn nothing when you click through to a vendor. Paid placement can affect the order in which tools appear; it never affects whether a tool is listed. Editorial policy

Frequently Asked Questions

For small and mid-sized teams that want published prices, sipgate (Germany), Voys (Netherlands) and Placetel (Germany) are the clearest options. STARFACE suits organisations that want to choose between cloud, appliance and self-hosted. Wildix and Enreach are sold mainly through partners, so expect a quote rather than a price list.

sipgate lists business S, L and XL at EUR 12.95, 17.95 and 22.95 per user per month (minimum 2 users). Voys lists its Basic plan at EUR 19.95 per user per month excluding VAT. Placetel lists plans from EUR 6.90 per user per month, and Gradwell lists Wave from GBP 7.90 per user per month. NFON, Enreach, Telavox and Wildix quote on request.

Number porting is offered by the providers that run their own telephone network, for example sipgate and Voys, and sipgate states that porting numbers in is free. Check the porting terms and any notice period with your current provider before you cancel.

Yes, several do. sipgate has a Teams integration, Voys and NFON offer Teams integration, Placetel lists Microsoft Teams in its app store, and Gradwell sells Wave Teams+. The integration level differs, so ask whether calls are routed through Teams or the vendor app.

The Complete Guide to European Business Phone System Tools

Cloud, appliance or self-hosted

The first decision is where the PBX runs. sipgate, Voys, Placetel, NFON and Gradwell are cloud services where the vendor operates the platform.

STARFACE is the clearest example of choice, offering a hosted cloud PBX, a hardware appliance and a VM edition you host yourself, with a switch between them possible later. Wildix also offers cloud, on-premise or hybrid, but its cloud PBX runs on AWS, so check the region and contract terms. If call data has to stay on your own network, the self-hosted editions are the relevant ones.

Look at the pricing model

Per-user prices vary less than the extras around them. sipgate, Voys, Placetel and Gradwell publish per-user prices, but call charges, phone numbers, mobile add-ons and AI features are often billed separately, and some prices exclude VAT.

Placetel shows lower prices with a 24-month term than with a one-month term. Vendors such as NFON, Enreach, Telavox and Wildix give quotes, which is normal for partner-sold systems but makes comparison slower. Compare the total monthly cost for your real number of users, numbers and expected minutes.
