European Veterinary Practice Management Software

Veterinary practice management software holds patient records, appointments, stock, invoices and lab results for a clinic, which means it also holds the personal data of every pet owner. Where the vendor is based and where the database runs therefore matters under GDPR. This page lists eleven suppliers based in Finland, Germany, Austria and Switzerland, from per-vet cloud plans to installed systems for clinics, and it says plainly where a vendor publishes no price or hosting region.

How we rank these tools — 4-step process
  1. 1
    European ownership, verified

The company is headquartered and incorporated in the EU, EEA, the UK, Switzerland or Israel, and processes customer data in Europe or Israel. A US parent company disqualifies a tool from this page regardless of where its servers are.

  2. 2
    Category fit and hands-on review

What the tool actually does, who it suits, and where it falls short — checked against the vendor’s own documentation, changelog and pricing page rather than its marketing copy.

  3. 3
    Compliance and pricing check

GDPR posture, hosting location and the prices quoted on this page are verified against the vendor’s public pricing before publication, and re-checked when we revisit the category.

  4. 4
    Position on this page

Placement on this page can be paid, and that can affect the order tools appear in. It never buys a listing: a tool that fails the checks above is not here at any price, and payment does not change the shortcomings we write about. A vendor can ask us to correct a factual error — not to remove a criticism.

Vendors can pay for visibility on this page. It never changes what an entry says about a product, including the criticism, and we earn nothing when you click through to a vendor. Vendors can pay for more visibility, higher up on the review pages; it never affects whether a tool is listed. Editorial policy

VET 4.0 is a client/server system from BTE GmbH in Willich for clinics and large teams. Every user gets a personal account with tasks, jobs can be passed between vets, stock can be held across any number of warehouses, and a tablet version works offline with sync.

BTE is registered at Amtsgericht Krefeld under HRB 3776, with Heinrich Kauertz and Larissa Kauertz as managing directors, and the name means a consultancy for veterinary purchasing. Its history runs from Aniwindow in 1988 to VET 4.0 in February 2019, and the company says it serves 1,000+ practices. No price or hosting is stated, and the profit claims are the vendor's own.

What VET 4.0 does well

  • Built for large teams with personal task views

  • Over 30 years of vendor history, per the company

Where VET 4.0 falls short

  • Hosting not stated
  • German-only pages

Standout feature. VET 4.0 searches earlier cases by breed, age, sex and weight when a vet plans a treatment.

How do I choose between a cloud service and installed software for a vet clinic?

Start with who looks after the database. Provet Cloud, inBehandlung, debevet, VetNative and vetpraxis.de are used in a browser, so the vendor runs the server and the practice pays a subscription. Vetera installs on Windows computers and, above five seats, needs a server of its own, and Oblon Vet runs on the local network with a cloud database as an option. easyVET sits in between, because the same product can be installed locally or hosted by VetZ.

The deciding factor is usually staff, not features. A clinic with a person who tests backups can keep an installed system, while a one- or two-vet practice normally gains more from a browser product with a fixed fee. Ask every vendor how a restore works and who answers the phone when the database does not start.

What do European vet software subscriptions cost?

Published prices are lower than many buyers expect, but they are not comparable one to one. debevet lists €48, €78, €118 and €168 per month, inBehandlung €87.50, €110.50 and €168 net on annual terms, VetNative starts at €80.90 per month for elovet, and vetpraxis.de charges €139 per month for teams up to five, or €119 in the first year after a practice is founded.

Provet Cloud prices per vet instead of per practice: $99 or £139 for Core and $129 or £159 for Pro, plus a platform fee of $249 per month in dollars, and the AI Clinical Agent costs $40 or £30 per seat. Vetera, easyVET, VET7.well, Oblon Vet and VET 4.0 give prices on request, so ask for a written quote that includes lab links, the cash register and the owner app.

Where is the patient and client data stored?

Only inBehandlung names a hosting provider: Hetzner Online GmbH in Germany, according to the vendor, with a separate database for each customer. Vetera stores data on the practice's own PC or server, Oblon Vet on the local network unless the cloud database is chosen, and easyVET either locally or with VetZ. Provet Cloud, debevet, VetNative, vetpraxis.de, VET7.well and VET 4.0 do not state a region on the pages we read.

Switzerland is outside the EU, and Oblon Vet is covered by an adequacy decision rather than by EU membership. For any cloud product, request the data processing agreement and the list of sub-processors before the first record is imported.

How do I move from IDEXX Cornerstone to a European system?

Treat it as three projects: data, devices and billing. For data, ask the new vendor for a test import from a Cornerstone export. inBehandlung and debevet mention data import, and vetpraxis.de promises free data transfer, but none states that Cornerstone files are read natively. For devices, send the model numbers of analysers and imaging equipment to each vendor.

For billing, check that the local fee schedule and reporting are built in. German practices look for GOT, HI-Tier and Vetproof, Swiss practices for camt.54 and Twint, which Oblon Vet lists, and Austrian practices for a cash register, which VET7.well and VetNative include. Run the old and new calendars side by side for a short while.

When should a clinic not switch away from Cornerstone?

Do not switch if the clinic outside the German-speaking region relies on one supplier for instruments, results and the practice system, because most tools in this list are built around German, Austrian or Swiss rules. Vetera, easyVET, VetNative, vetpraxis.de, VET7.well, VET 4.0 and debevet publish their sites in German only or German first.

Also wait if a working lab link depends on IDEXX hardware and the new vendor can only promise an interface later. Oblon Vet, for example, still marks online booking and SMS reminders as coming soon. A move is easier when the current contract is about to renew and the team has a quiet month to retrain.

Which European vet software connects to labs and imaging devices?

inBehandlung sends lab orders to Laboklin, Antech and IDEXX and keeps local lab devices for its BUSINESS package. VET7.well links to IDEXX VetConnect PLUS, easyVET connects lab devices directly and keeps image management in the suite, and Oblon Vet lists interfaces for lab, X-ray and ultrasound. Vetera includes a PACS module and internal and external lab links.

Provet Cloud lists 150+ integrations and an open API, VetNative offers lab and imaging links as add-ons with a Windows and macOS connector, and VET 4.0 offers an offline tablet version. Get the supported-device list in writing, because feature pages rarely name instrument models.

How we selected and ranked these 10 tools

Every tool on this page is in the European Purpose directory, which means the operating company is established in Europe and we have verified that from the company register or the vendor's own legal notice rather than from a marketing page. Tools headquartered outside Europe are not eligible, however good they are.

  1. Feature verification (weight: 40%). We check each capability against the vendor's own documentation and product pages, and record what the tool does rather than what the category is assumed to include.
  2. Ease of adoption (weight: 30%). Integrations, published API access, trial availability and how much configuration stands between signing and a usable result.
  3. Value and transparency (weight: 30%). Published pricing counts in a vendor's favour; quote-only pricing is recorded as quote-only rather than estimated. We weigh what a buyer gets for the entry price, not the headline feature count.
  4. Editorial review. Every page is researched and drafted with AI assistance, and the compliance and pricing claims are checked against the vendor's documentation before it is published under the founder's editorial responsibility. The three weights above decide the order; a position is a ranking against the other European tools in this category, not an absolute score.

Vendor-reported outcomes — ROI figures, margin uplift, time saved — are labelled as vendor claims wherever they appear on this page. We have not audited them, and neither has anyone else who quotes them. Read our full editorial process for how pages are re-verified.
