European Alternatives to Wrike

Looking for a European alternative to Wrike? Wrike, Inc. is a San Diego company whose online terms are governed by California law, with exclusive jurisdiction in the state and federal courts of San Diego County.

Eleven European tools cover the work management, Gantt, workload and portfolio side: four general project suites, two Kanban-led tools, three resource and portfolio planners and two sovereign or self-hostable options, from companies in Ireland, Germany, Bulgaria, Czechia, France and Estonia.

How we rank these tools — 4-step process
  1. 1
    European ownership, verified

The company is headquartered and incorporated in the EU, EEA or Switzerland, and processes customer data in Europe. A US parent company disqualifies a tool from this page regardless of where its servers are.

  2. 2
    Category fit and hands-on review

What the tool actually does, who it suits, and where it falls short — checked against the vendor’s own documentation, changelog and pricing page rather than its marketing copy.

  3. 3
    Compliance and pricing check

GDPR posture, hosting location and the prices quoted on this page are verified against the vendor’s public pricing before publication, and re-checked when we revisit the category.

  4. 4
    Position on this page

Placement on this page can be paid, and that can affect which tools appear here and the order they appear in. It never buys a good review: a tool that fails the checks above is not here at any price, and payment does not change the shortcomings we write about. A vendor can ask us to correct a factual error — not to remove a criticism.

Vendors can pay for visibility on this page. It never changes what an entry says about a product, including the criticism, and we earn nothing when you click through to a vendor. Paid placement can affect which tools appear here and the order they appear in. Editorial policy

Key takeaways

  • Wrike, Inc. is a San Diego company whose terms are governed by California law, with exclusive jurisdiction in San Diego County courts and no mandatory arbitration.
  • Teamwork.com (Cork, Irish law and courts) has a free plan for 5 users and paid plans at $9.99 and $24.99 a user a month, with capacity planning and billing on Accelerate.
  • OpenProject (Berlin) has a free open-source Community edition, and its Enterprise plans start at €5.95 a user with a 25-user minimum, in the cloud or on your own servers.
  • awork (Hamburg) lists €5, €12 and €22 a user a month on annual billing, with time tracking in every plan and capacity planning from Standard.
  • Meisterplan and Ganttic charge by the resources you schedule, not by login, which suits large teams where most people only read the plan.
  • Wimi (Paris) hosts on its own SecNumCloud-qualified data centres in France, and Easy8 lets the contracting entity vary between Prague, London and Brooklyn, so read which one signs your order.

Why people leave Wrike

Wrike is a work management platform for teams that run many projects at once: Gantt charts, workload views, request forms, workflow automation, dashboards, file proofing and more than 400 integrations, according to its features page. It has a Free plan, and its pricing page lists Team at $10 a user a month (2 to 15 users) and Business at $25 (5 to 200 users, annual only), with Pinnacle and Apex on request.

The company behind it is Wrike, Inc. in San Diego, California. Its online terms are a contract with "Wrike, Inc. or the Affiliate of Wrike, Inc. identified on or associated with an applicable Order", they are governed by California law, and the parties consent to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts in San Diego County. There is no mandatory arbitration, but good-faith negotiation is a condition for starting legal action.

The eleven European tools below do not clone Wrike. Some are general project suites, two are Kanban-led, three are planners for resources and portfolios, and two are open or sovereign options. Which one fits depends on whether your pain is task management, capacity planning, or where your data and contract sit.

  • The contract is governed by California law Wrike's terms point to California law and to the courts of San Diego County as the exclusive forum. For a company that wants a supplier whose contract sits under EU or UK law, with a court in its own region, none of the eleven below has that gap: their terms name Irish, German, Bulgarian, Czech or Estonian law or courts where we could read them.
  • The entry plan has a ceiling, and the next plan has a floor Wrike's Team plan covers 2 to 15 users and Business starts at 5 users with annual billing only. Seats are sold in groups (of five up to 30 seats, ten from 30 to 100, 25 beyond). Several European tools price differently: Meisterplan and Ganttic charge for the resources you schedule and let any number of people in, and Teamwork.com, factro and Planio have free plans with a fixed size.
  • Enterprise features sit behind a sales call Wrike's Pinnacle and Apex plans have no listed price. That is not unusual in this market, and some European tools do the same (Businessmap, Meisterplan and Easy8 show no bare figure we could read). But OpenProject, awork, Wimi, MeisterTask and Teamwork.com all publish per-user prices up to a mid-tier before you talk to anyone.
  • Where Wrike is still ahead Wrike lists more than 400 integrations, proofing for creative assets and a large AI feature set. We could not verify whether the European tools match its proofing, and none of them claims a connector library of that size on the pages we read. If your agency lives in review rounds on design files, test that before you commit.

What you have to replace, not just match

Start from what your teams really use in Wrike: Gantt, workload, request forms, proofing, dashboards. Many teams use a fraction. If you mostly need tasks, boards and a timeline, a general suite such as Teamwork.com, awork or factro covers it. If you need to see who is booked on what across portfolios, look at Meisterplan, Ganttic or Easy8 first.

Move one team at a time. Export or recreate the project templates, run a live project in the new tool for a month, and keep Wrike read-only until the last project is closed. Check seat minimums before you choose (Teamwork.com wants at least 3 or 5 users on paid plans, OpenProject 25, Easy8 10 in the cloud).

What actually breaks when you switch

The hard part of leaving Wrike is its structure, not the account. Custom item types, request forms, dashboards and automations do not export into another tool. Budget time to rebuild templates, and keep Wrike read-only until the last live project is closed.

Watch the minimums. OpenProject paid plans start at 25 users, Easy8 cloud at 10 licences, and Teamwork.com paid plans at 3 or 5. A team of eight can fit Teamwork.com or factro, but not OpenProject on a paid plan.

Read who signs the order. Easy8 may contract through a US or UK entity, and Meisterplan trial systems can sit in Oregon. Ask for the entity and the production region in writing.

Which European tool is closest to Wrike?

For general work management with a free entry point, Teamwork.com is the nearest in shape: projects, time tracking, capacity planning on Accelerate, automation and invoicing, with published prices and a free plan for 5 users. awork covers similar ground for agencies, with time tracking in every plan.

For the heavier enterprise end, Easy8 and Businessmap are the ones to try, and Meisterplan if portfolio and capacity planning is the main job. None of them was verified against Wrike's proofing or its 400-plus integrations.

Which of these have a free plan?

Teamwork.com (up to 5 users and 5 projects), OpenProject (Community edition, open source), factro (up to 3 users), MeisterTask (3 projects), Planio (Bronze, 1 project and 2 users) and Ganttic (up to 10 resources) all list a free option on their own pages.

awork, Wimi, Easy8, Meisterplan and Businessmap offer a trial instead, between 14 and 30 days depending on the tool. Wrike itself has a Free plan with "essential task management".

Can I host it myself or in a sovereign cloud?

OpenProject can be self-hosted, as it is open source, and its Enterprise plans are offered in the cloud or on-premises. Easy8 lists an on-premises option with a 25-user minimum. Wimi hosts in France on its own data centres, with SecNumCloud SaaS 3.2 qualification stated on its legal page.

Wrike's security page lists certifications but not data locations. Its detailed security overview lives on a separate site that we did not read, so we say nothing about its regions.

What is different about how these price per seat?

Most charge per user. Meisterplan and Ganttic charge per resource that you schedule and let anyone view, which suits a large organisation where a hundred people read the plan and twenty are booked. Planio sells flat monthly plans with caps on projects and users (for example Silver: 3 projects and 5 users).

Which one to pick

If you want the nearest all-round replacement, with a free plan, published prices and time tracking, start with Teamwork.com. If you want open source or your own servers, OpenProject. If you run an agency and want capacity and time in the same place, awork.

For planning across a portfolio, Meisterplan and Ganttic charge by the people you schedule and let everyone else view the plan, which is cheaper for large organisations. Businessmap and Easy8 suit bigger organisations with Kanban or Waterfall, as long as you read which entity signs the order.

Be honest about the gap. Wrike lists more than 400 integrations, proofing for creative files and an AI feature set, and we could not verify any of those at the European tools. Switch if you want a European contracting party and a court close to home, and keep Wrike where proofing and its connectors are the reason you use it.

Frequently Asked Questions

There is no single best one. Teamwork.com is the most similar all-round tool, with a free plan and published prices. OpenProject is the choice if you want open source or self-hosting, awork if you run an agency and track time, and Meisterplan or Ganttic if resource planning is the main need.

On its pricing page Wrike lists Free, Team at $10 a user a month (2 to 15 users), Business at $25 (5 to 200 users, annual only), and Pinnacle and Apex on request. Billing is per user per year, and prices can differ by country or promotion.

Teamwork.com lists Free for up to 5 users, Basics at $9.99 (minimum 3 users) and Accelerate at $24.99 (minimum 5) per user a month on annual billing. OpenProject lists a free Community edition, Basic at €5.95 and Professional at €10.95 per user a month with a 25-user minimum, and Premium at €15.95 with a 100-user minimum.

awork lists Basic €5, Standard €12 and Professional €22 per user a month on annual billing. factro lists a free Basic plan for up to 3 users, Business at €19.99 and Professional at €29.99 per user a month with a minimum of 3. MeisterTask lists Free, Pro at €13.50 and Business at €24 per user a month.

Wimi lists Communauté at €3, Drive at €9, Projets at €12 and Suite at €15 per user a month for small and mid-sized teams. Planio lists a free Bronze plan (1 project, 2 users), then Silver at €19, Gold at €49, Diamond at €95 and Platinum at €199 a month, each with fixed project and user limits.

Meisterplan prices by the number of resources you schedule, with unlimited free users, and Ganttic does the same with a free plan up to 10 resources. Neither shows a full price list on the pages we read for Meisterplan, so ask for a quote and count your bookable people first.

Easy8's terms say the provider can be Easy8 s.r.o. in Prague, Easy8 Software Ltd in London, or Easy8 US LLC in Brooklyn. The terms are governed by Czech law with arbitration at the Arbitration Court attached to the Czech Economic Chamber. Ask which entity is named on your order if you want a European contracting party.

We could not confirm Businessmap's data locations from the pages we read. Meisterplan's privacy page says trial systems can be placed in Frankfurt or in Oregon in the United States, so check which region your production tenant uses.

There is no one-click migration that we could verify for these tools. Plan on exporting your task lists and recreating templates, then running one live project in the new tool before you move the rest. Check that your custom fields have a place to land before you commit.
