European Used Car Marketplaces

Used car marketplaces let you search, buy, sell or trade in a used car online, either through a shop that owns its stock or through listings from dealers and private sellers. A European option matters because the contract, the warranty, the registration paperwork and your personal data then sit with a company in Germany, the Netherlands, France, Spain, Denmark or the UK. This list covers thirteen services whose legal entity we could read on their own pages.

How we rank these tools — 4-step process
  1. 1
    European ownership, verified

The company is headquartered and incorporated in the EU, EEA, the UK, Switzerland or Israel, and processes customer data in Europe or Israel. A US parent company disqualifies a tool from this page regardless of where its servers are.

  2. 2
    Category fit and hands-on review

What the tool actually does, who it suits, and where it falls short — checked against the vendor’s own documentation, changelog and pricing page rather than its marketing copy.

  3. 3
    Compliance and pricing check

GDPR posture, hosting location and the prices quoted on this page are verified against the vendor’s public pricing before publication, and re-checked when we revisit the category.

  4. 4
    Position on this page

Placement on this page can be paid, and that can affect the order tools appear in. It never buys a listing: a tool that fails the checks above is not here at any price, and payment does not change the shortcomings we write about. A vendor can ask us to correct a factual error — not to remove a criticism.

Vendors can pay for visibility on this page. It never changes what an entry says about a product, including the criticism, and we earn nothing when you click through to a vendor. Vendors can pay for more visibility, higher up on the review pages; it never affects whether a tool is listed. Editorial policy

Key takeaways

  • Four retailers in this category state a return window on their own pages: Autohero gives 21 days, Aramis Auto 30 days, cinch 14 days and Clicars 100 days or 3,000 km.
  • AutoScout24, AutoUncle and Gaspedaal are listing and search services, so the pages we read describe no warranty or return period from them and the sale contract is made with the seller.
  • Motorway runs a daily dealer auction and charges a service fee on the final sale price, Carwow runs a reserve-price auction, and wirkaufendeinauto sends a final price by email; none of the three shows a fee percentage or price figure on the pages we read.
  • Four of the 13 tools are UK services under English law (cinch, Carwow, Motorway and Drive (heycar)), covered by an EU adequacy decision but outside the EEA, while the other nine are established in Germany, the Netherlands, France, Spain and Denmark.
  • Only Aramis Auto, which names Amazon Web Services Europe in Luxembourg as its host, and AutoUncle, whose privacy policy says its services run from servers in the EU, state a hosting location on the pages we read.

European used car marketplaces are online services run by companies established in Europe where you buy a used car, compare listings or sell your own car, and they matter as an alternative to a US retailer such as Carvana because the sale contract, the warranty rules and the personal data you hand over (identity, address, number plate, payment details) fall under EU or UK law with a named company you can look up in a register.

  • Where the data sits. Not stated on the pages we read; the privacy policy is a PDF we did not read
  • Source code. Closed source
  • Replaces. Carvana

Autohero sells used cars online to Dutch buyers and wraps the purchase in the services of a retailer: delivery, order tracking, the Autohero warranty and a 21-day money-back guarantee stated on its home page. The search can be set to total price or to a monthly budget, and financing comes from partner banks, with a notice that borrowing money costs money.

Autohero NL B.V. has its address at Hullenbergweg 95 in Amsterdam, and its company details page lists a KVK number and a VAT number. The AUTO1 Group site names Autohero among its platforms. The Dutch pages were the only ones read, the warranty scope and delivery costs are not covered here, and the privacy policy is a PDF we did not read.

AutoScout24 GmbH is based in Grünwald near Munich and its imprint lists a Munich commercial register number, a VAT ID and three managing directors. Its Digital Services Act notice puts average EU users between 1 March and 31 August 2026 below 45 million. A free two-minute estimate leads into the Reprise service, which takes your car in trade-in without any obligation to buy.

Aramis SAS has its head office in Arcueil, and its legal notice gives share capital of 1 036 461 euros and an RCS number. The legal notice names Amazon Web Services Europe in Luxembourg as host. Only French pages were read, the warranty and trade-in terms were not, and the cookie page mentions transfers outside the European Union without detail in our extract.

  • Replaces. Carvana

cinch is a UK online used car shop with delivery or collection, part exchange and car finance in the same order flow. Cinch Cars Limited is registered in England and Wales and has its registered office in Hook, Hampshire. Its About page places it in the Constellation Automotive Group, without naming the owners of that group. The terms add an Admin Fee and a Transport Charge, both with VAT, and let cinch refuse an order in listed cases such as a price error.

Flexicar Internacional S.L. is named in the legal notice with a tax number and an address in San Sebastián de los Reyes near Madrid. The home page calls Flexicar the largest network of used car dealerships in Spain with more than 170 dealerships, which is the vendor's own claim. Carwow Ltd is registered in England and Wales and has its registered office in London. Its terms state that the sites are free of charge to use, that a dealer is not committed to the price in an Offer, and that content a seller submits is licensed on an irrevocable, worldwide, perpetual and royalty-free basis. Where Carwow falls short

  • Offers do not bind the dealer

#9 Motorway

London, United Kingdom A service fee based on the final sale price of your vehicle, shown during the process and on the final invoice; the percentage is not shown on the pages we read Demo on request

Best for: UK owners who want dealers to compete for their car instead of taking a part-exchange offer

  • Operating company. Motorway Online Ltd
  • Jurisdiction. United Kingdom (adequacy decision, outside the EEA)
  • Where the data sits. Not stated on the pages we read
  • Source code. Closed source
  • Replaces. Carvana (selling)

Motorway is a selling-only service for UK owners: you enter a registration number, receive an instant valuation, and verified dealers bid in a daily sale. The highest offer goes to you, the car is collected from your home, and payment is stated as same-day after collection. It can also settle outstanding finance.

Motorway Online Ltd is registered in England and Wales and has its address in London, with a VAT number published. The terms state a service fee based on the final sale price, and the percentage is not shown on the pages read. Claims such as 8,000+ verified dealers, 1,600 pounds more than part-exchange and 84% of sellers beating market price come from Motorway itself.

What Motorway does well

  • Company number, address and VAT number published

#10 Drive (heycar)

Milton Keynes, United Kingdom Prices per car with filters from under 8,000 pounds to under 1,000,000 pounds and monthly filters under 150, 200 and 300 pounds Demo on request

Best for: UK buyers who want warranty-backed used cars from approved retailers and finance in the same place

  • Operating company. Volkswagen Financial Services DS (UK) Limited (trading as Drive)
  • Jurisdiction. United Kingdom (adequacy decision, outside the EEA)
  • Where the data sits. Not stated on the pages we read
  • Source code. Closed source
  • Replaces. Carvana

Drive, reached from the older heycar address in our fetch, is a UK search service for used cars from Volkswagen Group and other authorised retailers, plus new lease offers. Filters cover price, monthly price, make, model, body type and fuel, and guides, reviews and news sit beside the listings.

Volkswagen Financial Services DS (UK) Limited operates Drive from Milton Keynes and is an appointed representative of a firm regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority, whose reference the terms give. The terms were updated on 11 August 2026. Drive does not sell the cars, the sale is made with the dealership, and the warranty terms were not read. The tie to the heycar name rests on where our fetch ended.

What Drive (heycar) does well

  • UK company with number, address and VAT number published
  • FCA reference stated for the regulated parent
  • Search by monthly price as well as total price
  • Used cars and lease offers on one site

#11 wirkaufendeinauto

Berlin, Germany Valuation is free; the sale price appears after you enter your car Demo on request

Best for: German sellers who want a quick sale of their car to a company instead of listing it

  • Operating company. WKDA GmbH
  • Jurisdiction. EU (Germany)
  • Where the data sits. Not stated on the pages we read
  • Source code. Closed source
  • Replaces. Carvana (selling and trade-in)

wirkaufendeinauto buys cars from private sellers in Germany. You enter your car in a free online valuation, receive the final price by email and book a hand-over appointment in a branch. The home page states you can sell in less than an hour without haggling, and the company takes over the paperwork, including deregistration.

WKDA GmbH has its address in Berlin, and its imprint names the managing director and the register court Amtsgericht Charlottenburg. It shows two register numbers, which we did not resolve. The AUTO1 Group site lists the platform. Claims such as being the largest car buyer in Europe are unverified, the pages show no price figures, and the privacy policy PDF was not read.

What wirkaufendeinauto does well

  • German GmbH with register court and managing director published
  • Free online valuation
  • Final price sent by email before you travel
  • Deregistration paperwork handled for you
  • Data deletion request available on the privacy page

  • Jurisdiction. EU (Germany)
  • Where the data sits. Not stated on the pages we read
  • Source code. Closed source

The site lists wirkaufendeinauto.de, Autohero and AUTO1.com, and shows 2012 as the year of foundation, more than 30 markets and 842,200+ cars sold, without the period for that figure.

AUTO1 Group SE has its address in Berlin, with a Munich register entry and a VAT number in the imprint. The imprint names the sole member of the management board and the chairman of the supervisory board, and investor relations material is published. The site is not a shop, shows no prices or buyer terms, and is best read as the explanation of who owns the consumer brands.

What AUTO1 Group does well

  • German SE with register court and VAT number published
  • Group site names its consumer platforms
  • Cars sold, markets and year of foundation stated
  • Investor relations and governance material published

  • Where the data sits. Not stated on the pages we read
  • Source code. Closed source
  • Replaces. Carvana (search)

Gaspedaal collects used car offers from more than 2,000 Dutch car sites and lets you search NL offers and EU offers by make, body type, fuel, province, city, transmission and BOVAG occasion. Price groupings such as cars up to 500, 5,000 and 10,000 euro sit beside car reviews, model comparisons and blog articles.

The disclaimer says Dutch law applies, and the advertiser terms name Automotive Mediaventions B.V. as the party behind them. No address, KVK number or imprint appeared on the pages read, so the operating entity is only partly confirmed. Gaspedaal gives no warranty or return period, because the buyer leaves the site and buys from the seller. The privacy policy text was not read.

What Gaspedaal does well

  • Search across offers from 2,000+ Dutch car sites
  • NL offers and EU offers in one place
  • Filters including BOVAG occasion
  • Reviews and model comparisons on the site
  • Dutch law stated for the site

Where Gaspedaal falls short

  • No warranty or return period from Gaspedaal

Which European site comes closest to buying a car from Carvana?

Autohero, Aramis Auto, cinch and Clicars are the four retailers here that own the buying journey from the listing to the front door. Each states a delivery or collection step and a period in which you can hand the car back. Autohero states a 21-day money-back guarantee, Aramis Auto a 30-day trial described as satisfait ou remboursé, cinch a 14-day money back guarantee in its purchase terms and Clicars a trial of 100 days or 3,000 km.

The choice mostly follows your country. Autohero's Dutch pages were read, Aramis Auto sells in France, cinch in the United Kingdom and Clicars in Spain. Aramis Auto adds a 12-month guarantee and 41 agencies, cinch states a 3-month warranty with at least 6 months of MOT, and Clicars states a warranty of up to 3 years. These are home-page statements, and none of the four warranty documents was read in full.

Flexicar sits next to this group rather than inside it. It describes a network of more than 170 dealerships, which is the vendor's own claim, and shows a monthly instalment beside each price, but the warranty page returned no text when we fetched it.

How do you sell or trade in a car in Europe instead of using Carvana?

Six services here buy or sell a car on your behalf, and they work in three different ways. wirkaufendeinauto and Aramis Auto make you an offer as a company. Motorway and Carwow let dealers bid. Flexicar offers either a quick purchase or a managed sale in which it takes photos and lists the car on the main portals.

wirkaufendeinauto in Germany states a three-step route: a free online valuation, a final price by email and a hand-over appointment in a branch, with deregistration handled for you. Aramis Auto in France offers an estimate in two minutes and states payment within 24 hours after the sale. Autohero and Clicars also take a trade-in, and AutoUncle labels its valuation and selling route as free.

Motorway in the United Kingdom runs a daily dealer sale and passes you the highest offer, with collection from your home. Carwow runs an auction with a reserve price, so the car is not sold if the reserve is missed. Both are UK services, and neither shows its selling fee as a percentage on the pages we read, so ask for the figure before you list.

Is a listing marketplace or a retailer the safer way to buy a used car?

A retailer is the party you can hold responsible, while a listing marketplace is a place to find sellers. When you buy from Autohero, Aramis Auto, cinch or Clicars, the company on the invoice is the one that states the guarantee. When you buy through AutoScout24, Gaspedaal, AutoUncle or Drive (heycar), you leave the site and contract with a dealer or a private seller.

That does not make listing sites worse. AutoScout24 describes cars, motorcycles, caravans, trucks and trailers across several country sites, and Gaspedaal states it gathers offers from more than 2,000 Dutch car sites, which is a breadth no single retailer matches. AutoUncle adds a price rating and a number plate check so that you can judge an advert before you phone the seller.

Drive (heycar) is a middle case. It lists used cars from Volkswagen Group and other authorised retailers and describes them as warranty-backed, but the sale is made with the dealership and we did not read the warranty terms. Carwow also leaves the final price to the dealer, because its terms say a dealer is not committed to sell at the price shown in an Offer.

Do European used car sites keep your data inside the EU?

Not all of them say, and that gap is the main finding of this category. Eleven of the 13 tools do not state a hosting location on the pages we read. Aramis Auto names Amazon Web Services Europe in Luxembourg in its legal notice, and AutoUncle's privacy policy says its services and stored personal data are hosted from servers in the EU.

Jurisdiction is easier to read than hosting. Autohero, AutoScout24, Aramis Auto, Clicars, Flexicar, AutoUncle, wirkaufendeinauto, AUTO1 Group and Gaspedaal are established in the EU. cinch, Carwow, Motorway and Drive (heycar) are UK companies under English law, which the EU treats as adequate for data transfers but which sit outside the EEA.

Read the small print on consent and content. AutoUncle names UserCentrics, Inc., a US-based partner, as joint controller for consent signals when you enter an email address. Aramis Auto's cookie page mentions transfers outside the EU, and Carwow's terms license the photos a seller uploads to Carwow on an irrevocable, worldwide, perpetual and royalty-free basis. wirkaufendeinauto offers a button on its privacy page to request deletion of your data.

What does a used car marketplace cost, and which fees stay hidden?

For buyers the price is the car, and the sites differ in how they present it. Autohero and cinch let you search by total price or monthly price, Flexicar shows a monthly instalment beside the price and Drive (heycar) offers monthly filters under 150, 200 and 300 pounds. cinch adds an Admin Fee and a Transport Charge, both stated to include VAT, and the amounts did not appear on the pages we read.

For sellers the cost sits in a fee or in the gap between the offer and the market. Motorway states a service fee based on the final sale price, shown during the process and on the final invoice. Carwow's terms say the sites are free of charge to use, yet seller charges are not shown. wirkaufendeinauto, Flexicar and AutoUncle label valuation as free.

Two sites show no consumer fee at all. AutoUncle and Gaspedaal earn from dealers and advertisers, and AutoUncle's dealer products, such as AutoUncle Analytics and Leadbox, carry no price on the pages we read. A free site is still paid for by someone, so the question is whether that payer is the seller whose car you are looking at.

When is it better not to switch away from Carvana?

Switch only if one of the European services works where you live and for the car you want. The sites we read are built for their own countries: Dutch pages for Autohero and Gaspedaal, French for Aramis Auto, Spanish for Clicars and Flexicar, German for wirkaufendeinauto and English for the UK services. We read no page that sells cars into other regions.

Stay put if your reason is price alone. None of the European tools publishes a fee schedule that lets you compare total cost, and the discounts on the home pages of Aramis Auto (up to -45% on selected cars until 8 November 2026) and Clicars (a Black Days reduction of up to 8,000 euro) are time-limited.

Compare terms before leaving, because we could not read those of Carvana. Its own website returned an access error to our checker on 4 November 2026, so this article quotes none of its terms, privacy policy or prices. Read them directly and set them against the 21, 30, 14 and 100-day windows listed above.

How we selected and ranked these 13 tools

Every tool on this page is in the European Purpose directory, which means the operating company is established in Europe and we have verified that from the company register or the vendor's own legal notice rather than from a marketing page. Tools headquartered outside Europe are not eligible, however good they are.

  1. Feature verification (weight: 40%). We check each capability against the vendor's own documentation and product pages, and record what the tool does rather than what the category is assumed to include.
  2. Ease of adoption (weight: 30%). Integrations, published API access, trial availability and how much configuration stands between signing and a usable result.
  3. Value and transparency (weight: 30%). Published pricing counts in a vendor's favour; quote-only pricing is recorded as quote-only rather than estimated. We weigh what a buyer gets for the entry price, not the headline feature count.
  4. Editorial review. Every page is researched and drafted with AI assistance, and the compliance and pricing claims are checked against the vendor's documentation before it is published under the founder's editorial responsibility. The three weights above decide the order; a position is a ranking against the other European tools in this category, not an absolute score.

Vendor-reported outcomes — ROI figures, margin uplift, time saved — are labelled as vendor claims wherever they appear on this page. We have not audited them, and neither has anyone else who quotes them. Read our full editorial process for how pages are re-verified.

Frequently asked questions

That depends on the job. For buying online with delivery and a return window, Autohero (Netherlands), Aramis Auto (France), cinch (United Kingdom) and Clicars (Spain) are the retailers to compare. For the widest choice of adverts, AutoScout24 and Gaspedaal. For selling, Motorway, Carwow and wirkaufendeinauto. The order of this directory is not a quality score, because the 13 tools do different jobs in different countries.

Not one company covers every country, but Autohero, Aramis Auto, cinch and Clicars each sell used cars online with a stated return window in one national market. Autohero belongs to the AUTO1 Group platforms according to the group site. Carvana's own pages were blocked to our checker, so the comparison rests on what the European sites state about themselves.

The sites state different speeds, all taken from their own pages. wirkaufendeinauto says you can sell in less than an hour at a branch, Aramis Auto states payment within 24 hours after the sale, Flexicar states immediate payment once the car is transferred, and Motorway states same-day payment after collection. Treat these as vendor claims and confirm them in the written offer.

Carwow's terms state that its sites are made available free of charge, and AutoUncle labels its valuation and selling route as free. wirkaufendeinauto and Flexicar label their valuation as free, and Gaspedaal shows no consumer fee. Motorway is the exception among the selling tools, because it charges a service fee on the final sale price.

cinch (Cinch Cars Limited, Hook), Carwow (Carwow Ltd, London), Motorway (Motorway Online Ltd, London) and Drive (heycar), run by Volkswagen Financial Services DS (UK) Limited in Milton Keynes, operate under English law. The EU has an adequacy decision for the United Kingdom, but these four sit outside the EEA. Autohero, AutoScout24, Aramis Auto, Clicars, Flexicar, AutoUncle, wirkaufendeinauto, AUTO1 Group and Gaspedaal are EU companies.

They are separate legal entities in one group. The AUTO1 Group site, run by AUTO1 Group SE in Berlin, lists wirkaufendeinauto.de, Autohero and AUTO1.com as its platforms. Autohero NL B.V. in Amsterdam is the Dutch retailer, and WKDA GmbH in Berlin runs wirkaufendeinauto. Read each imprint for the entity you actually contract with.
