European PR and Media Monitoring Software

PR software covers three jobs: publishing news and press releases, reaching journalists, and tracking what media and social channels say afterwards. The tools hold journalist contact data and brand mentions, so a European contracting company and clear GDPR terms matter. These twelve providers from Belgium, the Netherlands, Sweden, Germany, the United Kingdom, Ireland, France and Denmark cover distribution, newsrooms, monitoring or all three.

How we rank these tools — 4-step process
  1. 1
    European ownership, verified

The company is headquartered and incorporated in the EU, EEA, the UK, Switzerland or Israel, and processes customer data in Europe or Israel. A US parent company disqualifies a tool from this page regardless of where its servers are.

  2. 2
    Category fit and hands-on review

What the tool actually does, who it suits, and where it falls short — checked against the vendor’s own documentation, changelog and pricing page rather than its marketing copy.

  3. 3
    Compliance and pricing check

GDPR posture, hosting location and the prices quoted on this page are verified against the vendor’s public pricing before publication, and re-checked when we revisit the category.

  4. 4
    Position on this page

Placement on this page can be paid, and that can affect the order tools appear in. It never buys a listing: a tool that fails the checks above is not here at any price, and payment does not change the shortcomings we write about. A vendor can ask us to correct a factual error — not to remove a criticism.

Vendors can pay for visibility on this page. It never changes what an entry says about a product, including the criticism, and we earn nothing when you click through to a vendor. Vendors can pay for more visibility, higher up on the review pages; it never affects whether a tool is listed. Editorial policy

Key takeaways

  • Prezly, the Leuven company behind the #1 review in this category, is the only tool here that publishes two flat monthly prices (EUR 100 and EUR 250, billed annually) and offers a 14-day trial without a card for newsroom, contacts and email pitching.
  • Landau Media in Berlin is the most open monitoring vendor on the list: Starter at EUR 299, Advanced at EUR 940 and Complete at EUR 3,500, excluding VAT, with the media panel spelled out for every package.
  • Six of the twelve providers publish no price at all: PR.co, Roxhill Media, Vuelio, pressrelations, NewsWhip and Retriever answer a pricing question with a quote or a call back.
  • Mynewsdesk in Stockholm is the one tool here that sells a single press release without a subscription, at EUR 619 excluding VAT, while Pressat in Poole sells the same idea from GBP 110 a release.
  • None of the twelve pages checked states where the vendor hosts customer data, so the European part of this category is the contracting company and its courts, not a confirmed data centre location.

European PR and media monitoring software is the set of tools that publish news and press releases, put them in front of journalists, and count what newspapers, broadcasters and social channels say afterwards, sold by a company established in Europe. The category matters for jurisdiction because these tools hold two kinds of personal data at once: your own staff and spokespeople, and a database of named journalists and the stories they wrote.

Every European PR and media monitoring software tool reviewed

#1 Prezly

Leuven, Belgium Essential EUR 100 a month and Standard EUR 250 a month, both billed annually; Enterprise on request 14-day free trial, no card

Best for: In-house PR teams and small agencies that want to publish, pitch and report from one tool

  • Operating company. Prezly BV
  • Jurisdiction. EU (Belgium)
  • Where the data sits. Not stated on the pages checked
  • Source code. Closed source
  • Replaces. Cision (outreach and newsroom parts)

Prezly starts from the story and builds the tool around it. You write a story in your own branded newsroom, send it as a pitch to a media list, and the opens, clicks and later coverage attach to the same record.

Two prices are public: Essential at EUR 100 a month for one site, one user and up to 5,000 contacts, and Standard at EUR 250 a month with a second user, 10,000 contacts, white-label sites, localisation and sending from your own domain, both billed annually.

The contracting company is Prezly BV in Leuven, with terms under Belgian law and the courts of Leuven as venue. The vendor describes connections to Claude, ChatGPT and Gemini so an assistant can read contacts and campaign results, but the pages checked do not say where that data is processed or where the account is hosted. There is no news or social monitoring feed, so teams that report on clippings need a second vendor.

What Prezly does well

  • Public prices and a 14-day trial without a card
  • Newsroom, contacts, pitching and reports in one record
  • Belgian company under Belgian law
  • White-label sites and own-domain sending on Standard
  • Connects to Claude, ChatGPT and Gemini

Where Prezly falls short

  • No news or social monitoring described
  • Essential has one user and Prezly branding
  • Contact caps of 5,000 and 10,000
  • Data-hosting region not stated

Standout feature. Prezly is the only tool in this category that joins newsroom, media lists, pitching and results in one record at a price printed on the website.

#2 PR.co

Amsterdam, Netherlands Founded 2014 Start, Scale and Enterprise plans, all on request Free trial on Start

Best for: Brands that run PR in several markets or languages and want newsroom, outreach and reporting together

  • Operating company. PR.co B.V., company number 34362319
  • Jurisdiction. EU (Netherlands)
  • Where the data sits. Not stated on the pages checked
  • Source code. Closed source
  • Replaces. Cision (newsroom and outreach parts)

PR.co is an Amsterdam platform that calls itself one tool for the whole PR workflow, and the plan table shows how that is split.

Start covers one market with one newsroom, two languages, one user, 1,000 contacts and 1,000 emails a month; Scale raises the language count to five and adds approvals, own-domain sending and a dedicated account manager; Enterprise is aimed at corporate communications and investor relations. No plan shows a price, and Start is the only one with a free trial.

The contracting entity is PR.co B.V., registered in Amsterdam under company number 34362319, and the company says it has worked with PR teams since 2014 with a remote team in six countries. Its media monitoring module is flagged as new on the homepage, and the pages checked say nothing about sources or pricing for it, so established monitoring vendors go deeper. The hosting region is not stated.

What PR.co does well

  • Online newsroom with up to five languages on Scale
  • Dutch company with Dutch-law terms
  • CRM and email sending in the same tool
  • Free trial on Start
  • Zapier integration

Where PR.co falls short

  • No public prices
  • Start limited to one market and one user
  • Media monitoring module is new
  • Data-hosting region not stated

Standout feature. PR.co is the multilingual newsroom option here, with a plan structure that counts languages and markets rather than seats.

#3 Mynewsdesk

Stockholm, Sweden Founded 2003 Single press release EUR 619 excluding VAT; GO monthly plan and monitoring plans via sales 10-day free trial (cannot send a release)

Best for: Nordic and European communicators who want distribution and monitoring from one vendor

  • Operating company. Mynewsdesk AB, registration number 556634-1276
  • Jurisdiction. EU (Sweden)
  • Where the data sits. Not stated on the pages checked
  • Source code. Closed source
  • Replaces. Cision, Meltwater (distribution and monitoring)

Mynewsdesk is the widest single vendor on this list. Founded in Sweden in 2003, it sells press release distribution with a newsroom and journalist matching, media monitoring across online, social, podcasts, radio, TV, YouTube and TikTok, and reports on reach, share of voice and sentiment. It says more than 4,000 communication teams use it and that its journalist database holds over a million names, both vendor figures.

The pricing model has an unusual door in: one press release for EUR 619 excluding VAT, paid by card in the tool, with no subscription to cancel, plus a monthly GO plan bought directly. Larger distribution and monitoring plans go through sales. The 10-day free trial does not allow sending a release. The privacy policy names Mynewsdesk AB, registration number 556634-1276, in Stockholm; the interface runs in Danish, German, English, Norwegian and Swedish.

What Mynewsdesk does well

  • Distribution, monitoring and reporting in one platform
  • Single press release without a subscription
  • Five interface languages
  • Swedish company with named registration number
  • Covers podcasts, TV, radio and TikTok in monitoring

Where Mynewsdesk falls short

  • Larger plan prices on request
  • EUR 619 per single release
  • Trial cannot publish a release
  • Data location not stated

Standout feature. Mynewsdesk lets you buy one press release by card, which no other full-suite vendor in this category does.

#4 Landau Media

Berlin, Germany Starter EUR 299, Advanced EUR 940, Complete EUR 3,500, excluding VAT; +100 mentions EUR 60 a month

Best for: German-speaking communications teams that need monitoring with licence-cleared press reviews

  • Operating company. Landau Media GmbH & Co. KG, HRA 28281
  • Jurisdiction. EU (Germany)
  • Where the data sits. Not stated on the pages checked
  • Source code. Closed source
  • Replaces. Cision, Meltwater (monitoring)

Landau Media is a Berlin media observer that measures coverage rather than creates it.

Three packages are priced on the small-business page: Starter at EUR 299 with two keywords and 100 mentions, Advanced at EUR 940 with ten keywords and 1,000 mentions, and Complete at EUR 3,500 with fifty keywords and 10,000 mentions, all excluding VAT, with extra blocks of 100 mentions at EUR 60 a month.

Each package names the same panel: 6,000 print titles, 7,000 online media, 26,000 podcasts and one million social sources including TikTok, LinkedIn and Threads, plus radio and TV.

The press review service delivers articles with licence handling by email, PDF, PPT, HTML, XML or RSS, and the analysis service reports share of voice, tonality index and message penetration. The imprint names Landau Media GmbH & Co. KG, registered at Berlin-Charlottenburg under HRA 28281. There is no distribution, newsroom or journalist database, the pages are mainly German, and the billing period is not stated beside the prices.

What Landau Media does well

  • Three package prices published
  • Panel includes 26,000 podcasts and TikTok
  • Press review service with licence handling
  • Analysis metrics such as share of voice and tonality
  • German company with court registration

Where Landau Media falls short

  • No outreach or distribution tools
  • Starter allows only 100 mentions and two keywords
  • Billing period not stated beside prices
  • Mainly German-language pages

Standout feature. Landau Media states the size of its media panel in every package, so you can see what Starter at EUR 299 actually watches.

#5 news aktuell

Hamburg, Germany Kickstart from EUR 230 a month on a six-month term; zimpel Einsteiger from EUR 1,450; voices Einsteiger from EUR 1,590

Best for: Companies that mainly address German-speaking media and want agency-grade distribution

  • Operating company. news aktuell GmbH, HRB 127245
  • Jurisdiction. EU (Germany)
  • Where the data sits. Not stated on the pages checked
  • Source code. Closed source
  • Replaces. Cision, PR Newswire (DACH distribution)

news aktuell is a Hamburg distribution house whose product ots places press releases through news agencies into the editorial systems of media. Releases can also appear in the Presseportal, with Native Ads on partner sites or Display Ads on more than 11,000 digital out-of-home screens. Cross-media monitoring is an option under the ARGUS brand rather than the core product.

The smallest entry is Kickstart, from EUR 230 a month on a six-month term, with lists of up to 2,000 specialist media contacts for Germany, Austria and Switzerland, a mailing tool and one free ots distribution. The zimpel media directory starts at EUR 1,450 and the voices video statements at EUR 1,590. The imprint names news aktuell GmbH, HRB 127245 at the Hamburg court. The site is mainly German with an English switch and the lists are DACH-focused.

What news aktuell does well

  • Distribution through news agencies into newsroom systems
  • Media directory with mailing tool
  • Kickstart package from EUR 230 a month
  • Presseportal for search visibility
  • German company with registered court entry

Where news aktuell falls short

  • DACH-focused contact lists
  • Mostly German-language site
  • Monitoring is optional and from another brand
  • Several starter packages cost over EUR 1,400

Standout feature. news aktuell delivers releases through news agencies into editorial systems, a route the newsroom tools on this list do not offer.

#6 Roxhill Media

Harpenden, England Custom quote

Best for: UK-focused PR teams that want a journalist database with monitoring and human-led analysis

  • Operating company. Roxhill Media Limited, company number 08756401
  • Jurisdiction. United Kingdom (adequacy decision, outside the EEA)
  • Where the data sits. Not stated on the pages checked
  • Source code. Closed source
  • Replaces. Cision, Vuelio (UK media database)

Roxhill Media bundles four things under one login: a journalist database with press lists and distribution, media monitoring with smart folders, a spokespeople module that tracks the share of voice of named experts, and bespoke human-led insight. Journalist movement alerts and media requests are part of the database, and a PR opportunities feature lets you search slots from over 200 outlets.

It also runs events for clients, such as journalist Q&As, networking clubs and speed pitching, centred on UK outlets. The terms name Roxhill Media Limited, company number 08756401, registered in England and Wales with an office in Harpenden. The pricing page is a custom quote with no figures, the pages checked do not state a hosting location, and as a UK company it sits outside the EEA with a UK adequacy decision.

What Roxhill Media does well

  • Database, monitoring and spokesperson analytics under one login
  • Human-led bespoke insights available
  • Journalist movement alerts and media requests
  • Press list and distribution tools
  • UK-registered company with named company number

Where Roxhill Media falls short

  • No public prices
  • UK-centred outlets and events
  • No data-location statement
  • Bespoke services add cost

Standout feature. Roxhill Media tracks named spokespeople as well as journalists, comparing an expert's share of voice with competitors.

#7 Vuelio

London, United Kingdom Modular, quoted on request

Best for: UK public affairs and PR teams that need political monitoring next to media tools

  • Operating company. Pulsar Group Plc (Vuelio brand)
  • Jurisdiction. United Kingdom (adequacy decision, outside the EEA)
  • Where the data sits. Not stated on the pages checked
  • Independent checks. ISO/IEC 27001, stated for the group
  • Source code. Closed source
  • Replaces. Cision, Meltwater (UK)

Vuelio is a modular suite from London that adds public-affairs tooling to the usual PR set. Modules include media monitoring across online, social, print and broadcast, a media database with blogger outreach, news distribution, an online newsroom, media analytics and stakeholder management, plus a political database and political monitoring for teams that follow MPs and policy debate. Lumina, an AI assistant, is part of the range.

The vendor says more than 3,500 organisations use it. According to its privacy policy the operator is Pulsar Group Plc, formerly Access Intelligence Plc, which also runs the Pulsar, Isentia and ResponseSource brands, and the group states ISO/IEC 27001 certification. Pricing is quoted after a call back, the political data is UK-centred, and the pages checked do not state a hosting location.

What Vuelio does well

  • Political database and monitoring included as modules
  • Media, social, print and broadcast monitoring
  • Online newsroom and distribution available
  • Group holds ISO/IEC 27001
  • Pay for the modules you use

Where Vuelio falls short

  • No public prices
  • UK-centred political data
  • Part of a larger group
  • Data location not stated

Standout feature. Vuelio is the only tool on this list with a political database and political monitoring for public affairs teams.

#8 pressrelations

Düsseldorf, Germany Not published on the pages checked; contact for an offer

Best for: Corporate communications teams in several European countries that want monitoring plus analysis services

  • Operating company. pressrelations GmbH
  • Jurisdiction. EU (Germany)
  • Where the data sits. Not stated on the pages checked
  • Source code. Closed source
  • Replaces. Cision, Meltwater, Onclusive (monitoring)

pressrelations is an owner-managed Düsseldorf group that describes itself as 25 years old with 300 employees in nine countries. Its NewsRadar Suite groups media monitoring, alerting and dashboards, social listening for platforms such as TikTok and LinkedIn, journalist outreach with press release distribution and tracking, a media database for topic planning, and GEO monitoring that measures brand visibility in answers from ChatGPT and Claude.

Services sit behind the software: cross-media reviews with licence management, competitor and crisis monitoring with dedicated contacts, stakeholder briefings and predictive trend detection called FirstSignals. The legal notice names pressrelations GmbH in Düsseldorf, and country sites exist for Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, Italy, the international market and the USA. No price is published and the hosting location is not stated.

What pressrelations does well

  • Owner-managed, nine countries, about 300 employees
  • Monitoring, social listening and outreach in one suite
  • Includes GEO monitoring for AI answers
  • Crisis monitoring with dedicated contacts
  • Country sites in several languages

Where pressrelations falls short

  • No published prices
  • Service-heavy model
  • Outreach less deep than dedicated newsroom tools
  • Data location not stated

Standout feature. pressrelations measures brand visibility inside AI answers from ChatGPT and Claude, a monitoring layer most tools here do not describe.

#9 Mention

Paris, France Plans listed on the pricing page, but no amount in the page text Free trial offered

Best for: Teams that want web and social listening with alerts and dashboards from a Paris vendor

  • Operating company. Agorapulse SAS (owns the brand Mention), registered number 432 322 964
  • Jurisdiction. EU (France)
  • Where the data sits. Not stated on the pages checked
  • Source code. Closed source
  • Replaces. Brandwatch, Brand24, Meltwater

Mention is a Paris web and social listening product, and it is the one provider on this list without a separate tool page on the directory. It watches the web and social channels, sends alerts and produces reports and dashboards. It does not publish releases or hold a journalist database in the information collected for this directory, so it complements an outreach tool rather than replacing one.

The brand belongs to Agorapulse SAS, registered under number 432 322 964 in Paris, which is the contracting party to check on an order form. Plans are listed on the pricing page without an amount in the page text, and a free trial is offered. The directory records Mention as a replacement for Brandwatch, Brand24 and Meltwater, and the site's social listening category carries a fuller entry.

What Mention does well

  • Paris-registered company with a named registration number
  • Web and social listening with alerts, reports and dashboards
  • Free trial offered

Where Mention falls short

  • No price amount in the pricing page text
  • No newsroom, distribution or journalist database recorded here
  • Brand owned by Agorapulse SAS rather than a standalone company

Standout feature. Mention is the French option for social and web listening, sitting next to print-centred monitors rather than inside a press release suite.

#10 NewsWhip

Dublin, Ireland Founded 2011 Demo and quote; no public price

Best for: Crisis, reputation and news teams that want early signals of stories gaining engagement

  • Operating company. NewsWhip Media Limited
  • Jurisdiction. EU (Ireland)
  • Where the data sits. Not stated on the pages checked
  • Source code. Closed source
  • Replaces. Cision, Meltwater (trend and risk monitoring)

NewsWhip began in 2011 as a way for newsrooms to see which stories people engage with on social platforms. Its product Spike combines real-time web and social feeds with engagement data to predict which content will spread, with alerts, reports, a timeline view that sets public interest beside media interest, and an AI monitoring agent for ongoing topics. Analytics holds more than seven years of historical data and an API sends it to your own dashboards.

The platforms in scope are the web plus Facebook, X, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, Reddit and Substack. There is no distribution, journalist database or newsroom, and no public price. The terms define NewsWhip Media Limited in Dublin as the Irish contracting party, governed by Irish law, but say that customers located in the United States contract with NewsWhip US, Inc. under New York law, so confirm the entity on your order.

What NewsWhip does well

  • Engagement data and prediction in one feed
  • Covers web plus major social platforms
  • Seven years of historical data in Analytics
  • API for custom dashboards
  • Irish company under Irish law for non-US customers

Where NewsWhip falls short

  • No distribution or journalist tools
  • No public price
  • US customers contract with a US entity
  • Data location not stated

Standout feature. NewsWhip predicts which stories are about to gain engagement, so it works as an early warning where other monitors report after the fact.

#11 Retriever

Stockholm, Sweden Pricing on request

Best for: Organisations monitoring Swedish, Danish, Norwegian or Finnish media

  • Operating company. Retriever Sverige AB, organisation number 556586-1571
  • Jurisdiction. EU (Sweden)
  • Where the data sits. Not stated on the pages checked
  • Source code. Closed source
  • Replaces. Cision, Meltwater (Nordic monitoring)

Retriever runs country sites for Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Finland, and its core product Monitor watches mentions across all media. Research searches historical news for longer analysis, Media Insights shows mentions on a dashboard, and a mobile app notifies you of new mentions. Social listening and a social media management line (engage, publish, measure) sit beside it, and on the Swedish site the company also sells business information.

The Swedish site names Retriever Sverige AB, organisation number 556586-1571, in Stockholm, and the Danish site names Retriever Danmark A/S, CVR 26937698, in Copenhagen. The product pages checked were in Swedish and Danish, an English version could not be opened, no prices are published, and there are no distribution tools.

What Retriever does well

  • Local entities in Sweden and Denmark with registration numbers
  • Archive research alongside live monitoring
  • Mobile app with alerts
  • Social listening and management in the same vendor
  • Dashboard for media insights

Where Retriever falls short

  • Product pages checked only in Swedish and Danish
  • No public prices
  • Nordic focus
  • No distribution tools

Standout feature. Retriever keeps a searchable archive of historic Nordic news next to live monitoring, with separate legal entities in Sweden and Denmark.

#12 Pressat

Poole, England Founded 2010 Pay-as-you-go from GBP 110 per release; subscription from GBP 290 a month for five releases

Best for: Small UK businesses and agencies that want to buy press release distribution at a fixed price

  • Operating company. Global Newswire Group Ltd, company number 12251006
  • Jurisdiction. United Kingdom (adequacy decision, outside the EEA)
  • Where the data sits. Not stated on the pages checked
  • Source code. Closed source
  • Replaces. Cision, PR Newswire (UK distribution)

Pressat is a Poole-based distribution service founded in 2010. Pay-as-you-go starts from GBP 110 for one release and one newsroom, and a subscription starts from GBP 290 a month for five releases and multiple newsrooms. Both include email and live chat support. Each release goes to a list of media subscribers (the page cites 33,000) and to syndication partners whose reach the vendor puts above 10 million end users, with social distribution, search indexing and analytics.

Add-ons include a media database, regulatory disclosure for listed companies, copywriting, translation in 33 languages and photo distribution. The terms name Global Newswire Group Ltd, company number 12251006, registered in England and Wales. Prices are in pounds, reach figures are the vendor's own, there is no monitoring product in the pages checked, and the hosting region is not stated.

What Pressat does well

  • Published prices
  • Pay-as-you-go option
  • Release analytics and search-indexed releases
  • Translation and photo distribution add-ons
  • Company with named registration number

Where Pressat falls short

  • Distribution only, no monitoring product
  • Prices in pounds
  • UK press focus
  • Reach figures are vendor claims

Standout feature. Pressat prints a per-release price from GBP 110, which makes it the cheapest published way on this list to send a single story.

Which job in PR do you actually need software for: publishing, outreach or monitoring?

Start by writing down which of the three jobs is the bottleneck, because the twelve tools here split along exactly that line. Publishing and outreach belong to Prezly, PR.co, Mynewsdesk, news aktuell and Pressat. Monitoring belongs to Landau Media, pressrelations, Retriever, NewsWhip, Mention and, with a political twist, Vuelio. Roxhill Media sits in between with a journalist database plus monitoring.

A small in-house team that sends four stories a quarter rarely needs a monitoring contract. It needs a place where the story lives, a list of the right editors and a record of who opened the mail.

That is the Prezly shape, and PR.co is built the same way with extra weight on languages. A corporate team that is asked every Monday how often the company appeared in the press needs the reverse: Landau Media, pressrelations or Retriever, with outreach left to something lighter.

Tools that attempt all three exist on this list, but they rarely go equally deep. Mynewsdesk lists distribution, a journalist database and monitoring together; pressrelations lists outreach as one module inside a monitoring-first suite. Ask a vendor which of its three modules the sales team sells most, and buy the strongest one rather than the bundle.

How do European PR tools price their products, and which ones show a number?

Six of the twelve show no price. PR.co has Start, Scale and Enterprise with a quote button on each. Roxhill Media offers a custom quote, Vuelio sells modules on request after a call back, and pressrelations, NewsWhip and Retriever ask you to contact them. Mention lists plans on its pricing page, but the page text carries no amount.

The six that publish numbers use six different units. Prezly charges EUR 100 or EUR 250 a month, billed annually, with contact caps of 5,000 and 10,000.

Landau Media charges per package by keyword and mention quota, EUR 299, EUR 940 or EUR 3,500 excluding VAT. news aktuell sells Kickstart from EUR 230 a month on a six-month term and starter packages from EUR 1,450 and EUR 1,590. Mynewsdesk sells one release at EUR 619 excluding VAT. Pressat charges from GBP 110 for one release or from GBP 290 a month for five.

The comparison that matters is cost per story sent, not cost per month. Five releases a month at Pressat's subscription price is a different purchase from one EUR 619 release at Mynewsdesk, and both differ from a Prezly seat where the number of stories is unlimited but the contact list is capped. Work out your own yearly count of releases before you read any price table.

What does a European contracting company change for a PR team?

It changes who signs the data processing terms and which court hears a dispute.

Prezly BV states Belgian law with the courts of Leuven, PR.co B.V. refers to Dutch law, NewsWhip Media Limited to the laws of Ireland, and the German providers publish a commercial register entry (HRB 127245 for news aktuell, HRA 28281 for Landau Media). For a communications department with a works council or a data protection officer, a named European entity is the thing that gets the contract through review.

Two caveats keep this honest. First, none of the twelve pages checked states a data-hosting location, so a European contracting entity does not by itself prove that the media lists and monitoring archives sit on European servers. Ask in writing. Second, NewsWhip's terms say that customers located in the United States contract with NewsWhip US, Inc. under New York law; European customers contract with the Irish company, so check the entity on the order form.

Vuelio adds a third caveat: it is a brand of Pulsar Group Plc, a UK group that also operates Pulsar, Isentia and ResponseSource. The UK sits outside the EEA with an adequacy decision, which is why Roxhill Media, Vuelio and Pressat are listed as United Kingdom rather than EU.

How do you move from Cision to a European tool without losing your journalist relationships?

Separate what you own from what you rent. The contacts you have emailed, met and logged are yours and can be exported as a list. The licensed journalist database inside a large suite is rented, and it stays behind when the contract ends. Prezly and PR.co both work from your own contacts and media lists, which makes them an easy landing place for an export, while Roxhill Media, Mynewsdesk, news aktuell and Vuelio bring their own journalist data.

Rebuild in the order that hurts least. Publishing first: a newsroom on Prezly or PR.co takes days, not months. Monitoring second: run Landau Media, Retriever or pressrelations in parallel with the old tool for one reporting cycle and compare the clippings before you cancel. Distribution last, because a wire service such as news aktuell's ots or Pressat is bought per release and can start the day you need it.

Expect the reports to change shape. Landau Media reports share of voice, tonality index and message penetration; Mynewsdesk reports reach, share of voice and sentiment; each defines them its own way. Brief your board that the trend line restarts on the switch date, and keep a note of when.

When should you not switch to a European PR tool?

Stay where you are when your press coverage is global and spread over more regions than any single European vendor covers. The Nordic specialists, Retriever above all, are built for Swedish, Danish, Norwegian and Finnish media, Roxhill Media and Pressat for UK media, Landau Media and news aktuell for the German-speaking market. A company that has to see Asian and American coverage in one dashboard may find that a European local specialist leaves holes.

Stay also when the Cision contract is cheap relative to the effort of moving, and the data protection officer has already signed off on it. A switch is justified by something concrete: a contract that now exceeds the budget, a legal review that requires a European controller, or a team that uses one module of a suite it pays for in full.

Finally, do not leave if you depend on a feature the European tools do not list. The pages checked for Mynewsdesk describe distribution and monitoring, not a global wire network of the kind that a US-based wire service sells. If a listed company must file regulatory announcements across many markets, ask each vendor in writing what it covers.

Can two European tools replace one large PR suite?

Yes, and the pairing is easier than it looks because the vendors name their own gaps. Prezly's limitations point to Retriever or pressrelations for monitoring, Landau Media's to Prezly or news aktuell for outreach, Retriever's to Mynewsdesk or Prezly for distribution, and NewsWhip's to Prezly or PR.co for the newsroom.

A practical pair for a mid-sized German company is news aktuell for distribution and Landau Media for monitoring. For a Nordic company it is Mynewsdesk for publishing and Retriever for monitoring. For a UK team it is Pressat for releases plus Vuelio for the political and media database, with Roxhill Media as the alternative where journalist data matters more than public-affairs tracking.

The price of two tools is two contracts, two logins and two data processing agreements. Count that overhead honestly against the single bill of a suite before you decide.

How we selected and ranked these 12 tools

Every tool on this page is in the European Purpose directory, which means the operating company is established in Europe and we have verified that from the company register or the vendor's own legal notice rather than from a marketing page. Tools headquartered outside Europe are not eligible, however good they are.

  1. Feature verification (weight: 40%). We check each capability against the vendor's own documentation and product pages, and record what the tool does rather than what the category is assumed to include.
  2. Ease of adoption (weight: 30%). Integrations, published API access, trial availability and how much configuration stands between signing and a usable result.
  3. Value and transparency (weight: 30%). Published pricing counts in a vendor's favour; quote-only pricing is recorded as quote-only rather than estimated. We weigh what a buyer gets for the entry price, not the headline feature count.
  4. Editorial review. Every page is researched and drafted with AI assistance, and the compliance and pricing claims are checked against the vendor's documentation before it is published under the founder's editorial responsibility. The three weights above decide the order; a position is a ranking against the other European tools in this category, not an absolute score.

Vendor-reported outcomes — ROI figures, margin uplift, time saved — are labelled as vendor claims wherever they appear on this page. We have not audited them, and neither has anyone else who quotes them. Read our full editorial process for how pages are re-verified.

Frequently asked questions

Prezly holds #1 in this directory because it joins a branded newsroom, media lists, email pitching and coverage reports under public prices of EUR 100 and EUR 250 a month. For monitoring first, Landau Media publishes three package prices from EUR 299, Retriever covers Nordic media and pressrelations runs a monitoring suite across several European countries. For distribution, Mynewsdesk, news aktuell and Pressat sell press releases per piece or per package.

There are twelve in this directory, and none of them copies the whole Cision bundle. Mynewsdesk in Stockholm comes closest, with distribution, a journalist database and monitoring in one vendor. Prezly and PR.co replace the outreach and newsroom part, Landau Media, pressrelations and Retriever replace monitoring, and Roxhill Media and Vuelio cover UK media databases.

Prezly lists EUR 100 and EUR 250 a month billed annually. Landau Media lists EUR 299, EUR 940 and EUR 3,500 excluding VAT. news aktuell starts at EUR 230 a month on a six-month term. Mynewsdesk charges EUR 619 excluding VAT for a single release, and Pressat charges from GBP 110. PR.co, Roxhill Media, Vuelio, pressrelations, NewsWhip and Retriever quote on request.

Three German providers are listed: Landau Media in Berlin for monitoring and licence-cleared press reviews, news aktuell in Hamburg for agency distribution and a DACH media directory, and pressrelations in Düsseldorf for a monitoring suite with country sites for Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Mynewsdesk also offers a German interface.

The pages checked for all twelve providers do not state a hosting location, so the answer has to come from the vendor in writing. What is stated is the contracting entity: for example Prezly BV in Leuven, Mynewsdesk AB in Stockholm, Retriever Sverige AB in Stockholm and NewsWhip Media Limited in Dublin.

Roxhill Media offers a journalist database with monitoring and spokesperson analytics, Vuelio adds political monitoring for public affairs, and Pressat sells press release distribution from GBP 110 a release. All three are UK companies and therefore sit outside the EEA, with a UK adequacy decision.
