European Doctor Appointment Booking Tools

Doctor appointment booking platforms let patients search for a doctor, dentist or clinic and reserve a slot online, while practices manage their agenda behind it. The European tools below name a European operator in their imprint, such as a GmbH, SA, SL or AS, so bookings and health-related contact data stay with a contracting entity inside Europe.

How we rank these tools — 4-step process
  1. 1
    European ownership, verified

The company is headquartered and incorporated in the EU, EEA, the UK, Switzerland or Israel, and processes customer data in Europe or Israel. A US parent company disqualifies a tool from this page regardless of where its servers are.

  2. 2
    Category fit and hands-on review

What the tool actually does, who it suits, and where it falls short — checked against the vendor’s own documentation, changelog and pricing page rather than its marketing copy.

  3. 3
    Compliance and pricing check

GDPR posture, hosting location and the prices quoted on this page are verified against the vendor’s public pricing before publication, and re-checked when we revisit the category.

  4. 4
    Position on this page

Placement on this page can be paid, and that can affect the order tools appear in. It never buys a listing: a tool that fails the checks above is not here at any price, and payment does not change the shortcomings we write about. A vendor can ask us to correct a factual error — not to remove a criticism.

Vendors can pay for visibility on this page. It never changes what an entry says about a product, including the criticism, and we earn nothing when you click through to a vendor. Vendors can pay for more visibility, higher up on the review pages; it never affects whether a tool is listed. Editorial policy

Key takeaways

  • Doctolib ranks first in this directory because it is the only platform that combines a patient network in France, Germany and Italy with practice management, reminders and video visits in one per-practitioner subscription.
  • Doctena is the only platform in this category that publishes monthly prices for practices: Basic 29 EUR, Smart 45 EUR and Premium 69 EUR, with a lower figure shown beside each that its page does not explain.
  • Doctoralia, Jameda, ZnanyLekarz and MioDottore run on one shared platform whose infrastructure is decided jointly by Doctoralia Internet S.L. and ZnanyLekarz, so the choice between the four is mostly a choice of country.
  • Kry, Min Doktor, Doktor.se and Dr.Dropin are care providers, not directories, which means the clinician, the record and the booking belong to one company.
  • None of the twelve platforms states its data hosting location on the pages we read, so samedi, Doctena and every other vendor should be asked for it in writing.

European doctor appointment booking platforms are online services, built by companies established in Europe, that let patients find a doctor and book a visit and let practices run their agenda, reminders and video consultations under European data protection law.

Every European doctor appointment booking platform reviewed

#1 Doctolib

Paris, France Per practitioner, per month Demo on request

Best for: Practices and clinics that want to be found by patients and run their agenda in one system

  • Operating company. Doctolib
  • Jurisdiction. EU (France)
  • Source code. Closed source
  • Replaces. Zocdoc, Mindbody, Calendly for clinics

Doctolib is a Paris company that sells patients a way to find and book a doctor and sells practices the software behind the calendar. Its site describes tens of millions of patients in France, Germany and Italy. A practice gets schedules for practitioners and rooms, patient records and documents, automated reminders, video consultations and secure messaging between practices.

Doctolib charges a monthly subscription per practitioner, and its page states that patient booking is included rather than billed per appointment. Health data is hosted with certified health data hosting providers in Europe, though the page names no country. The trade-off is dependence: once patients book through Doctolib, leaving means rebuilding how they find you, and the network is only as strong as the practice's own country.

What Doctolib does well

  • Patients already hold accounts and search there
  • Agenda, records and booking in one subscription
  • Reminders that reduce missed appointments
  • Video visits are part of the platform
  • Health data hosting by certified providers
  • Paris company under EU law

Where Doctolib falls short

  • Medicine only, no use for other appointment types
  • Strength of the network differs between countries
  • Cost rises with each practitioner
  • Patients booking through the platform make leaving harder

Standout feature. Doctolib is the only platform in this category that gives a practice an existing patient network and the practice software together.

#2 Doctena

Luxembourg, Luxembourg Basic 29 EUR /mo (25 EUR /mo shown next to it), Smart 45 EUR /mo (35 EUR), Premium 69 EUR /mo (55 EUR), plus a custom plan on request Demo on request

  • Operating company. Doctena S.A.
  • Jurisdiction. EU (Luxembourg)
  • Where the data sits. not stated on the pages we read; a sub-processor list with residency detail is linked from the Trust Center but was not read
  • Source code. Closed source
  • Replaces. Zocdoc, Healthgrades

Doctena publishes the clearest price list in this category, which makes it the easiest platform to budget for. Basic is 29 EUR a month, Smart 45 EUR and Premium 69 EUR, plus a custom plan, and every plan shows a second, lower figure that the page does not explain. Smart adds visibility on Doctena's portals and free SMS for patients who book; Premium adds EMR synchronisation, multiple locations and video consultation with online payment.

Doctena S.A. is a Luxembourg public limited company, RCS B176487, at 42 Rue de la Vallee, with local entities in Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Its Trust Center lists an Article 28 data processing agreement, a sub-processor list we did not read, ISO 27001 and a data protection officer in Berlin. The company states more than 10,000 professionals and 70% fewer no-shows, which are vendor figures. Hosting is not stated.

What Doctena does well

  • Monthly plan prices are published
  • Register number, address and entity named per country
  • ISO 27001 stated on its security page
  • Contract pages in English, French, German and Dutch
  • Six countries on one vendor

Where Doctena falls short

  • Two prices per plan with no explanation
  • Hosting location not given on pages read
  • Patient search is thin where few practices have joined
  • EMR sync and video payment need Premium

Standout feature. Doctena is the only platform here whose monthly plan prices are public, so a practice can budget before it talks to sales.

  • Operating company. Kry International AB (publ)
  • Jurisdiction. EU (Sweden)
  • Where the data sits. Not stated on the pages checked
  • Source code. Closed source
  • Replaces. Teladoc Health, Amwell

Kry presents itself as a registered healthcare provider under the Swedish Health and Medical Services Act, not just a booking layer. The privacy policy names Kry International AB (publ) and Kry Primarvard AB, both at Torsgatan 21 in Stockholm. A patient logs in with BankID, describes the problem and is called in the app, often within minutes according to the site.

The app lists doctors, nurses on video or chat, psychologists, physiotherapists, dietitians and sometimes midwives, in 24 languages. Records link to earlier visits and to the national patient overview. The regional fee is shown before booking, SEK 275 for a doctor visit in the default table, and children's visits carry none. Best for: Patients in Germany who want a free booking portal, especially for dental visits

Dental reasons include acute toothache, fillings, root canal treatment, professional cleaning and implant consultation.

The operator is aerzte.de MediService GmbH & Co. KG in Nuremberg, registered at the Amtsgericht Nuremberg as HRA 17217, with a general partner under HRB 16682 and the VAT ID DE304007382. Berlin, Germany Quote on request (Angebot anfordern); product and price lists referenced in the terms Demo on request

Best for: Practices, MVZs, clinics and hospitals in Germany that need configurable scheduling

  • Jurisdiction. EU (Germany)
  • Where the data sits. not stated on the pages we read; a certified data protection page exists but was not read in detail
  • Source code. Closed source
  • Replaces. Zocdoc, Healthgrades

samedi is scheduling software that a medical organisation buys, not a directory that patients search. Its home page describes more than 80 features, a vendor figure: online booking, a calendar, a phone assistant, video consultation, digital patient forms, a patient portal, AI support and a statistics dashboard. Target groups are practices, MVZs, clinics, rehab clinics and pharmacies, and modules are chosen with the vendor.

samedi GmbH, Rigaer Strasse 44 in Berlin, is entered at the Amtsgericht Berlin Charlottenburg as HRB 112862, and the imprint names two authorised representatives and an internal data protection officer. The terms mention access via samedi.de, a third-party platform such as KV Safenet, or an on-premise solution. Prices come by quote. Where samedi falls short

Standout feature. samedi is the only product in this category that offers a hospital an on-premise route, according to its terms.

#10 Dr.Dropin

Oslo, Norway Fixed prices stated; individual price lists not read Demo on request

Best for: Patients in Norway who want a private clinic visit booked online

  • Operating company. Dr.Dropin AS
  • Jurisdiction. EEA, not EU (Norway)
  • Where the data sits. not stated on the pages we read
  • Source code. Closed source
  • Replaces. Zocdoc, Teladoc Health

Dr.Dropin is a Norwegian healthcare chain that sells visits at its own clinics rather than listing other doctors. A patient sees free times for general practitioners and for specialists in dermatology, gynaecology, paediatrics, ENT and eye care, psychology and psychiatry, plus a musculoskeletal centre. Digital services include a video doctor, prescriptions and home tests.

Dr.Dropin AS is at Sorkedalsveien 8 in Oslo, organisation number 919 149 795. The about page states more than 400 colleagues with Norwegian authorisation, a vendor figure, and promises fixed prices and short waiting times. What Dr.Dropin does well

  • Operator named with organisation number

  • More than 400 staff, a vendor figure
  • Booking starts on the home page

Where Dr.Dropin falls short

  • Own clinics only, no independent doctors to compare

#11 Min Doktor

Malmo, Sweden See website; no fee quoted on the pages checked Demo on request

Best for: Swedish residents who prefer to write their case down and get a reply by message rather than book a live call

  • Operating company. MD International AB
  • Jurisdiction. EU (Sweden)
  • Where the data sits. Not stated on the pages checked
  • Source code. Closed source
  • Replaces. Teladoc Health

Min Doktor begins with a form, not a phone call: a patient chooses a category, logs in with BankID, answers the questions and sends the case. The doctor then replies, and an email tells the patient when the chat is ready. Psychologists, midwives, physiotherapists, sexologists, dietitians and nurses are listed beside the doctors, and children from six months are accepted.

MD International AB, organisation number 556934-0580, is at Norra Vallgatan 64 in Malmo. The site quotes more than 5 million patient visits and 95% patient satisfaction, both vendor figures. If a prescription is written, medicine can go home through Apotek Hjartat or be collected anywhere. The same brand runs vaccination clinics and primary care centres. No fee is quoted on the pages checked.

What Min Doktor does well

  • The written form suits issues that are not urgent
  • Psychologists and other clinicians beside doctors
  • Accepts children from six months
  • Medicine can be delivered through Apotek Hjartat
  • Vaccination clinics and care centres under one brand

Where Min Doktor falls short

  • BankID is required
  • Replies by message are slower than live video when urgent
  • Examinations and samples need a physical step
  • No fee is quoted on pages checked

Standout feature. Min Doktor is the only platform in this category that starts with a written case and answers by chat.

#12 Doktor.se

Sweden, Sweden Patient fees set per region and age group; free-care card applies to digital visits; see website Demo on request

Best for: Swedish residents who want same-day app contact and a care centre to register with under the same brand

  • Operating company. Doktorse Nordic AB
  • Jurisdiction. EU (Sweden)
  • Where the data sits. Not stated on the pages checked
  • Source code. Closed source
  • Replaces. Teladoc Health

Doktor.se promises chat or video help within about 30 minutes, every day and without booking a time, and a care centre appointment mostly within 24 hours. The site counts more than 10 million care meetings, a vendor figure. Common themes on the home page include acne, cough, hair loss, menopause complaints and urinary symptoms, and prescription renewal and certificates have their own entry points.

The privacy policy names Doktorse Nordic AB, org. nr 559058-0089, as the company that provides the app. It also says some asynchronous cases are handled by Kollarna.se, run by Doktor 24 Healthcare AB, with Doktorse Nordic as processor, so the responsible entity can differ by visit. A patient can register at one of 27 care centres, and vaccination is offered at more than 100 locations. An English version exists.

What Doktor.se does well

  • Chat or video help in about half an hour
  • 27 care centres share the brand
  • Vaccination at over 100 locations
  • English version of the site
  • Company and org. nr named in the privacy policy

Where Doktor.se falls short

  • Serves Sweden only

Standout feature. Doktor.se is the only platform here that links a 30-minute app contact to 27 care centres a patient can register with.

Which type of doctor booking platform do you actually need in Europe?

Three different products share this category, and picking the wrong type is the commonest mistake. Directories such as Doctoralia, Jameda, ZnanyLekarz, MioDottore and Arzttermine.de help patients find a doctor. Practice software such as samedi, Doctena and Doctolib helps a practice run its calendar. Care providers such as Kry, Dr.Dropin, Min Doktor and Doktor.se are the clinic itself.

A patient searching for a dentist wants a directory. A practice manager who is tired of phone calls wants software. A Swedish resident who needs a prescription renewed by tonight wants a provider. Decide which of the three you are before you compare any prices, because the same word, booking, covers all of them.

How much does a European doctor booking platform cost a practice?

Only one vendor in the category prints a full public price list. Doctena charges 29 EUR a month for Basic, 45 EUR for Smart and 69 EUR for Premium, with a custom plan on request. Its pages also show a lower figure beside each plan, 25, 35 and 55 EUR, and do not say which billing period each applies to.

Doctolib charges per practitioner per month and says patient booking is included rather than billed per appointment. samedi gives a quote on request, and Arzttermine.de describes a practice offer after a free consultation. Doctoralia, Jameda, ZnanyLekarz and MioDottore offer free registration, while their paid price pages were not read.

The free tiers deserve caution. A free profile gets a practice listed, which is not the same as being found. Ask each directory how paid visibility changes ranking before you assume the free entry brings patients.

Where is patient appointment data hosted by European booking platforms?

The honest answer is that we could not confirm it for any of the twelve. Doctolib states that it hosts health data with certified health data hosting providers in Europe, which describes the type of provider, not a country. Doctena links a sub-processor list from its Trust Center that we did not read, and samedi has a certified data protection page we did not read in detail.

The legal side is clearer than the technical side. Every company here is established in the EU or, for Dr.Dropin in Norway, the EEA, and appointment data is special category data under the GDPR. That puts the vendor under a European supervisory authority. It does not by itself place the servers outside US cloud providers.

Ask three things in writing: the hosting country and provider, the sub-processor list, and the data protection officer. Doctena names WS Digital Compliance GmbH in Berlin as its officer, and samedi names an internal officer in its imprint.

How do you switch from Zocdoc or another US marketplace to a European platform?

Switch the role, not just the logo. A US marketplace listing becomes a profile on a national directory such as Jameda in Germany or Doctoralia in Spain, while the calendar moves to Doctena, samedi or Doctolib. Our own check of Zocdoc was blocked with HTTP 403, so we cannot say what its export options are; ask the vendor you are leaving.

Plan a parallel period. Keep both profiles live for a few weeks and watch where new bookings come from. Reviews do not move between platforms, so a doctor with a strong rating on one directory starts again on another.

Communicate with existing patients before you switch the booking link. A patient who has an old confirmation email should still reach the practice by phone during the changeover.

When should you not use a booking marketplace at all?

A practice with a full waiting list and a loyal patient base does not need a directory. samedi exists for that case: it sells scheduling software to practices, MVZs and hospitals, has no patient marketplace and leaves the calendar and its rules with the practice. The cost is that it will not bring a single new patient.

A patient who already has a registered care provider in Sweden or Norway may also skip directories. Kry, Doktor.se and Min Doktor all require Swedish registration and BankID, and Dr.Dropin sells visits at its own clinics. For those patients, the app or the clinic website is the booking system.

Which platforms offer video consultations?

Doctolib includes video consultations beside booking and records. Doctena puts video with online payment on its Premium plan, Jameda offers a video option next to an on-site appointment, and samedi lists video consultation among its modules. Dr.Dropin offers a video doctor, prescriptions and home tests alongside its clinics.

The Swedish providers are video and chat first. Doktor.se promises chat or video help in about 30 minutes, according to its site. Kry calls the patient in the app, often within minutes according to the site. Min Doktor starts from a written form and a chat reply instead, which suits non-urgent problems better.

Every tool on this page is in the European Purpose directory, which means the operating company is established in Europe and we have verified that from the company register or the vendor's own legal notice rather than from a marketing page. Tools headquartered outside Europe are not eligible, however good they are.

  1. Feature verification (weight: 40%). We check each capability against the vendor's own documentation and product pages, and record what the tool does rather than what the category is assumed to include.
  2. Ease of adoption (weight: 30%). Integrations, published API access, trial availability and how much configuration stands between signing and a usable result.
  3. Value and transparency (weight: 30%). Published pricing counts in a vendor's favour; quote-only pricing is recorded as quote-only rather than estimated. We weigh what a buyer gets for the entry price, not the headline feature count.
  4. Editorial review. Every page is researched and drafted with AI assistance, and the compliance and pricing claims are checked against the vendor's documentation before it is published under the founder's editorial responsibility. The three weights above decide the order; a position is a ranking against the other European tools in this category, not an absolute score.

Vendor-reported outcomes — ROI figures, margin uplift, time saved — are labelled as vendor claims wherever they appear on this page. We have not audited them, and neither has anyone else who quotes them. Read our full editorial process for how pages are re-verified.

Frequently asked questions

Doctolib holds first place in this directory, judged on one criterion: it is the only platform that joins a patient network across France, Germany and Italy to practice management. The right pick depends on the job. Doctena suits a practice that wants public monthly plans, samedi a hospital or MVZ that wants configurable scheduling, Jameda a German patient who chooses by reviews, and Kry a Swedish resident who wants several clinician types in one app.

Several, and they differ by country. Doctoralia (Spain), Jameda and Arzttermine.de (Germany), ZnanyLekarz (Poland) and MioDottore (Italy) are patient directories like Zocdoc. Doctolib and Doctena add practice software. Our check of Zocdoc's own pages was blocked with HTTP 403, so we compare roles, not its terms.

Arzttermine.de states that booking is free for patients. Doctoralia, Jameda, ZnanyLekarz and MioDottore let professionals register for free, and no patient prices were shown on the pages we read. Kry and Doktor.se charge a regional fee in Sweden, shown in the app, and children's visits at Kry carry no fee.

Yes for Kry and Min Doktor, which both log patients in with BankID, and the pages checked tie Doktor.se to patients registered in Swedish regions. Dr.Dropin is Norwegian, uses its own booking from the home page and serves Norway only. A visitor without Swedish identity papers will have more luck with a directory such as Doctena or Doctolib in another country.

No. Figures such as Doctolib's tens of millions of patients, Doctoralia's 190,000 professionals, ZnanyLekarz's 240,000 doctors, Doctena's 10,000 professionals and Min Doktor's 5 million visits are the vendors' own statements on their sites. We repeat them as vendor claims, not as measured counts.
