Our review
Doctena is a medical booking platform operated by Doctena S.A., a Luxembourg public limited company registered as RCS Luxembourg B176487 at 42 Rue de la Vallee, L-2661 Luxembourg. The group runs local entities in Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Austria and Switzerland, each with its own terms and governing law.
The Doctena Pro home page offers an Online Agenda, a Patient Portal and a Virtual Assistant. Doctena states more than 10,000 healthcare professionals, 1.5 million bookings per month and 70% fewer no-shows, which are the vendor's own figures and not checked by us.
How Doctena works for a practice
Doctena gives a practice an Online Agenda with a patient database, confirmations and reminders by email, and online appointments through the practice's own website. The Smart plan adds visibility on Doctena's portals and free SMS for patients who book.
The Premium plan adds synchronisation with an EMR, multiple locations, video consultation with online payment and resource management. A custom plan is priced on request.
What the Trust Center shows
Doctena publishes a Trust Center with a per-entity imprint, a Data Processing Agreement under Article 28, a sub-processor list and an ISO 27001 page. The data protection officer is WS Digital Compliance GmbH in Berlin.
The privacy and contract pages are in English, French, German and Dutch. We did not read the sub-processor list, so hosting locations are not confirmed here.
Compared with Zocdoc
Zocdoc is a patient-facing marketplace in the US. Doctena is stronger on the practice side, with a published price list and practice tools, but a patient search on doctena.com depends on how many practices in your area are listed.
Doctena shows each plan with two euro figures, for example 29 and 25 EUR a month for Basic. The page we read does not say which figure applies to which billing period, so confirm that before you subscribe.
Where it falls short
Doctena does not say on the pages we read where data is hosted, and the two prices shown per plan are not explained. Patient search covers only the six countries it operates in. A practice that wants a large patient marketplace in Spain, Poland or Italy would look at Doctoralia or ZnanyLekarz.
Is Doctena right for you?
Practices and paramedical practices in the Benelux, Germany, Austria and Switzerland that want an online agenda with a published price. Patients benefit if their practice already lists on Doctena.
