European Alternatives to Podia

Looking for a European alternative to Podia? Podia is operated by Podia Labs, Inc., a US company whose terms give a New York address, and its pricing page lists Mover at $42 a month with a 5% transaction fee, Shaker at $84 and Earthquaker at $150, billed yearly.

The European tools below cover courses, communities and member areas from companies in Greece, Ireland, Germany, France, Austria, Bulgaria and the Netherlands, several with free plans, 0% transaction fees or EU hosting.

How we rank these tools — 4-step process
  1. 1
    European ownership, verified

The company is headquartered and incorporated in the EU, EEA or Switzerland, and processes customer data in Europe. A US parent company disqualifies a tool from this page regardless of where its servers are.

  2. 2
    Category fit and hands-on review

What the tool actually does, who it suits, and where it falls short — checked against the vendor’s own documentation, changelog and pricing page rather than its marketing copy.

  3. 3
    Compliance and pricing check

GDPR posture, hosting location and the prices quoted on this page are verified against the vendor’s public pricing before publication, and re-checked when we revisit the category.

  4. 4
    Position on this page

Placement on this page can be paid, and that can affect which tools appear here and the order they appear in. It never buys a good review: a tool that fails the checks above is not here at any price, and payment does not change the shortcomings we write about. A vendor can ask us to correct a factual error — not to remove a criticism.

Vendors can pay for visibility on this page. It never changes what an entry says about a product, including the criticism, and we earn nothing when you click through to a vendor. Paid placement can affect which tools appear here and the order they appear in. Editorial policy

Key takeaways

  • Podia is run by Podia Labs, Inc., and its privacy policy states the services are hosted and operated in the United States.
  • Podia's Mover plan costs $42 a month on yearly billing and takes a 5% transaction fee, while Shaker ($84) and Earthquaker ($150) list no Podia fee.
  • Memberspot and systeme.io both list 0% transaction fees on their paid plans, and systeme.io also has a permanent free plan with a course, a blog and 3 funnels.
  • Podia's terms send disputes to binding arbitration under the American Arbitration Association's consumer rules, with a class action waiver.
  • Of the eleven European tools on this page, only systeme.io and LearnyBox bundle email and funnels with courses, which is the part of Podia that is hardest to replace.

Why people leave Podia

Podia is a creator platform that puts a course player, digital downloads, coaching bookings, a community, live events, a website builder and email marketing behind one login. The company is Podia Labs, Inc., and the terms of service give a New York mailing address. For a solo creator who wants to publish a first course in an afternoon, the bundle is hard to fault, and the pricing page says every plan gets a 14-day trial without entering a card.

The reasons to look elsewhere are mostly about where the business sits.

Podia's privacy policy says the services are hosted and operated in the United States and that, if you live elsewhere, your data is provided to Podia in the U.S. and held on U.S. servers. Transfers rest on a data processing agreement with standard data protection clauses "in some circumstances". For a creator whose customers are mostly in Europe, that is a data flow you have to document, not a default you can ignore.

The second reason is commercial. Podia lists no fee per sale on its two upper plans, but the entry plan takes 5% of every sale on top of what Stripe or PayPal charge. A creator who starts small on that plan pays a revenue share before a single subscriber upgrades, and several European platforms undercut that by charging nothing per sale or by making the first plan free.

  • The services run on U.S. servers under U.S. contract terms Podia's privacy policy states the services are hosted and operated in the United States. Its terms are written by Podia Labs, Inc. and send disputes to binding individual arbitration under the American Arbitration Association's consumer rules, with a class action waiver. A European buyer can still use Podia lawfully, but cannot point to an EU contracting party or an EU hosting region when a customer, an employer or an auditor asks where the learner list lives.
  • The cheapest plan charges 5% of every sale Mover costs $42 a month on yearly billing and takes a 5% transaction fee. Shaker at $84 and Earthquaker at $150 list no Podia fee. The payment processor's own fee, quoted on the pricing page as 2.9% plus 30 cents for Stripe or PayPal, comes on top of all three. At $10,000 of course sales a month, the Mover fee alone is $500, which is more than the subscription itself.
  • Plan limits are set by products, videos and email subscribers Mover allows 50 products, 500 videos and 100 email subscribers. Shaker moves that to 150 products, 1,000 videos and 500 subscribers, and Earthquaker to unlimited products and videos with 1,000 subscribers. Affiliate marketing, upsells, PayPal and Zapier appear only from Shaker upward. A creator with a growing mailing list reaches the next price step through subscriber count, not through course count.
  • Refunds and renewals follow an American small-print model Podia refunds a payment if you write within 72 hours of the most recent charge, gives no partial refunds on annual plans and takes 5 to 10 business days to return the money. The terms add that recurring charges continue until you give notice of termination. That is workable, but it is narrower than the 14-day withdrawal rights many European consumers expect, so check how a business account is treated before you buy yearly.

What you have to replace, not just match

Podia is one subscription standing in for several tools, so the first job is a list of the modules you really use.

A typical Podia account holds courses with drip lessons and quizzes, a few digital downloads, a paid or free community space, an email list with automations, a website with a blog, and sometimes coaching sessions or live events. No single European platform in this directory matches every one of those, and trying to find one will produce a worse choice than splitting the job.

Courses and member areas are the easiest part to move. Memberspot, Coachy, LearnWorlds, Teachizy and LearningSuite all run lessons, exams or certificates behind your own branding. Email and funnels are the next layer: systeme.io and LearnyBox include both, while the others expect you to connect a separate mailing tool. The community module exists on Memberspot, LearningSuite and LearnyBox. Live events and webinars are where edudip, a webinar product, fills the gap that Podia's events feature covers.

Then there is the plumbing Podia hides. Podia's pricing page lists sales tax handling for 230 countries, 20 or more currencies and a built-in checkout. Most European tools instead connect to Stripe, PayPal, Digistore24 or Mollie and leave invoicing and VAT with you or your payment provider. Budget time for the checkout and tax setup, because on Podia it was a toggle and elsewhere it is a project.

How each alternative compares to Podia

#1

LearnWorlds

The branded course business, with more depth than Podia's course module

Limassol / Athens, GreeceFrom about $29 per month; higher tiers remove transaction fees#1 in E-Learning Platforms

Best for: Creators who want interactive video, a funnel builder and white-label apps under their own name

LearnWorlds is the platform to compare first if your Podia account is mostly courses. Its video player lets you place questions and links inside the timeline, and the completion data shows where learners drop off. Podia offers quizzes and certificates around lessons, but does not describe an in-video layer on the pages we read.

The company, LearnWorlds Ltd, works from Limassol and Athens, so the contract and the data protection duties sit inside the EU. White-label mobile apps appear on higher tiers, and so does the removal of transaction fees, which means the lower tiers can cost more per sale than their headline price suggests.

What LearnWorlds does better than Podia

  • Interactive video with questions inside the timeline
  • White-label mobile apps on higher tiers
  • An EU contracting company instead of a US one
  • SCORM support and affiliate management in the same product

Where LearnWorlds is a step down from Podia

  • Setup is slower than Podia's, which is built for a first launch in an afternoon
  • Transaction fees apply on the lower tiers
  • No bundled email suite or community comparable to Podia's

Standout against Podia. It is the only tool here that builds the quiz into the video timeline itself.

Memberspot

A member-area product with a fee-free sales model, aimed at the German market

Ludwigsburg, GermanyStarter EUR 49/month, Grow EUR 119, Scale EUR 249, Enterprise from EUR 500 (monthly billing, net of VAT; about 20 percent lower when billed yearly); 14-day trial without a card#2 in Online Course Platforms

Best for: German-speaking coaches who want their own app and an exam module without paying per sale

Memberspot answers Podia's 5% fee directly: all four plans list a 0% transaction fee. Starter costs EUR 49 a month on monthly billing and is limited to 1 course, 100 members and 1 admin, so it is a stepping stone rather than a home. Grow at EUR 119 lifts the caps to 2,500 members and adds a custom domain.

Memberspot GmbH is in Ludwigsburg and the vendor states EU hosting, though it does not name the hosting provider. It holds exams, quizzes and certificates, a community module and own-brand apps. The interface and support are German first, which counts against it if your audience is English-speaking.

What Memberspot does better than Podia

  • No transaction fee on any plan, against Podia's 5% on Mover
  • Exams and certificates from the first plan
  • Own-brand iOS and Android apps
  • A German GmbH with a Handelsregister entry

Where Memberspot is a step down from Podia

  • English-language support is thinner than Podia's
  • Does not bundle email marketing or digital downloads the way Podia does
  • Starter is capped at 1 course and 100 members

Standout against Podia. It is the one platform here that lists a 0% fee on every plan, including the cheapest.

Systeme.io

The closest bundle to Podia, with a free plan and an Irish contracting entity

Dublin, IrelandFree $0/month; Startup $17/month; Webinar $47/month; Unlimited $97/month (USD as published by the vendor)#2 in Landing Page Builder

Best for: Solo sellers who want courses, funnels, email and a blog in one account at the lowest cost

Systeme.io is the nearest structural match to Podia: courses, email automation, a blog, a page and funnel builder and an affiliate programme in one subscription. The permanent free plan covers 2,000 contacts, 3 funnels, 1 course and a custom domain. Startup at $17 a month lists unlimited funnels and 0% transaction fees.

The operating company is ITACWT Limited in Dublin, and the privacy policy says customer data sits on AWS servers in Ireland and is not transferred outside the EU. The catch is that prices are in dollars, the cloud provider is American-owned, and each module is less specialised than a dedicated tool.

What Systeme.io does better than Podia

  • A permanent free plan, where Podia offers a 14-day trial only
  • A far lower entry price than Podia's $42
  • Funnels and a built-in affiliate programme on every paid plan
  • Data stated to stay in Ireland

Where Systeme.io is a step down from Podia

  • Coaching, events and community spaces are not its focus
  • Prices are shown in USD, not euros
  • Templates and design polish trail Podia's

Standout against Podia. It is the only tool here where a free account includes funnels, a course and a custom domain.

Teachizy

A French course platform with servers in France and a free plan to test

Paris, FranceFree (3 courses, 70 learners, 9% commission); Pro EUR 49/month incl. VAT (EUR 490/year); Expert EUR 99/month incl. VAT (EUR 990/year)#4 in Online Course Platforms

Best for: French-speaking trainers who sell funded training and need Qualiopi and CPF compatibility

Teachizy is the pick for French-speaking trainers moving off Podia. The free Découverte plan allows 3 courses and 70 learners with a 9% commission, while Pro at EUR 49 a month including VAT removes the learner, course and sales limits. Prices are in euros and the monthly plans carry no commitment period.

The legal notice names MAJ DIGITAL SAS in Paris, and the vendor says its servers are in France. Qualiopi and CPF compatibility matter only if you sell training that is publicly funded in France. SCORM import is in beta and limited to SCORM 1.2 and 2004, and there is no email suite on the pricing page.

What Teachizy does better than Podia

  • Servers in France, stated by the vendor
  • Unlimited learners on a single EUR 49 plan
  • Qualiopi and CPF support for French funded training
  • Instalment payments and abandoned-cart reminders on Pro

Where Teachizy is a step down from Podia

  • French-first interface, with English only on the Expert plan
  • No built-in email marketing or events
  • The free plan takes 9%, more than Podia's 5%

Standout against Podia. It is the only platform here built around the French training-provider quality label.

LearnyBox

A French bundle of courses, funnels, email and webinars with a permanent free tier

Montpellier, FranceFree EUR 0; Launch EUR 39 excl. VAT/month (EUR 390/year); Boost EUR 89 excl. VAT/month (EUR 890/year); higher tiers on the vendor site#5 in Online Course Platforms

Best for: French-speaking sellers who want one invoice for courses, funnels, CRM and email

LearnyBox comes closest to Podia's scope after systeme.io, and it adds a CRM and automated webinars. The free plan has 1 course for 20 learners and 4,000 emails a month. Launch costs EUR 39 excluding VAT, with 10 courses, 100 learners and a mobile app, and Boost at EUR 89 lifts the caps.

SAS LearnyBox is in Montpellier, with support based in France. Its legal notice names Amazon Web Services, Inc. as the host of the site, and the server region for customer data is not stated on the pages we read, so request the data processing terms before you migrate learners.

What LearnyBox does better than Podia

  • A permanent free plan with a course, a funnel and a CRM
  • Webinars, SCORM and cohorts included on paid plans
  • Several payment routes including GoCardless and its own Learnypay
  • Pricing in euros from EUR 39

Where LearnyBox is a step down from Podia

  • French-first interface
  • Launch caps learners at 100
  • Server region and sub-processors are less clear than on Podia's policy

Standout against Podia. It is the only tool here that lists GoCardless direct debit next to Stripe and PayPal.

#6

Coachy

A protected member area that expects Digistore24 to handle the selling

Sofia, BulgariaPremium EUR 42/month (EUR 35/month billed yearly); Deluxe EUR 78/month (EUR 65/month billed yearly); 30-day free trial, no card#6 in Online Course Platforms

Best for: German-speaking coaches who already sell through Digistore24 and need a simple member area

Coachy is narrower than Podia on purpose. It delivers lessons with video, audio and downloads behind two-factor protection and expiring links, and lists unlimited members and storage on both plans. Premium costs EUR 42 a month, or EUR 35 on yearly billing, and Deluxe EUR 78, with a 30-day trial and no card needed.

Coachy OOD in Sofia is the contracting entity, and the vendor says data is stored in the EU. Selling, upsells and VAT run through Digistore24 rather than a Coachy checkout, which suits German affiliate-driven sellers and frustrates anyone who wants Podia's built-in checkout.

What Coachy does better than Podia

  • Unlimited members and storage on both plans
  • An own-brand app on the cheaper plan
  • A 30-day trial, longer than Podia's 14 days
  • A Bulgarian EU entity with EU data storage stated

Where Coachy is a step down from Podia

  • No email marketing, webinars or community module
  • Selling depends on Digistore24
  • Product limits on Premium are ambiguous on the pricing page

Standout against Podia. It is the only tool here with upsell and downsell steps wired to Digistore24 products.

LearningSuite

A premium academy platform sold through a demo call, with Frankfurt servers

Graz, AustriaNo public prices; demo call required#7 in Online Course Platforms

Best for: Agencies and companies that want a branded academy with onboarding and a migration service

LearningSuite is the opposite of Podia's self-service model. There is no public price and no self-service trial; you book a demo call, and the vendor offers a migration service and premium support. If you are leaving Podia with a large course library, that hand-holding is the product.

LearningSuite FlexCo in Graz is registered in the Austrian Firmenbuch, and the vendor states servers in Frankfurt. The feature list includes exams, dashboards, assignments, a community and a mobile app. Checkout is not described on the pages we read, so you may need an external payment tool for selling.

What LearningSuite does better than Podia

  • Migration service and onboarding support
  • Frankfurt servers stated by the vendor
  • Assignment submission and individual dashboards

Where LearningSuite is a step down from Podia

  • No published prices or self-service sign-up
  • Checkout features are not described
  • Only German, English and Polish interfaces

Standout against Podia. It is the only tool here sold exclusively through a demo call with a migration service.

Easy LMS

A flat-fee training and exam platform that does not try to be a storefront

Delft, NetherlandsBasic EUR 70/month (EUR 700/year), Advanced EUR 200/month (EUR 2,000/year); USD prices also shown; free trial without a card#8 in Online Course Platforms

Best for: Trainers and companies running exams and courses for many participants at a fixed monthly fee

Easy LMS is a different tool from Podia and should be considered only if your Podia use is closer to training than to selling. Basic costs EUR 70 a month and Advanced EUR 200, with unlimited participants on both. A creator with 40 buyers pays for capacity they do not use.

Easy LMS B.V. is in Delft, and its privacy policy says no personal data is transferred outside the EEA. Advanced adds SCORM upload, an API, webhooks and your own URL. There is no checkout or funnel on the pricing page, so the money side stays outside the tool.

What Easy LMS does better than Podia

  • A flat fee that does not grow with participants
  • A privacy policy stating no transfer outside the EEA
  • SCORM, API and webhooks on Advanced

Where Easy LMS is a step down from Podia

  • No storefront, funnels or email
  • A much higher entry price than Podia's Mover for a small audience
  • One admin seat on both plans

Standout against Podia. It is the only tool here priced by capacity rather than by learner count or sales.

Spreadmind

A managed e-learning platform with Frankfurt hosting and setup services

Rottweil, GermanyNo public prices on the pages we read; see vendor website#9 in Online Course Platforms

Best for: Education and consulting businesses that want someone else to run the platform

Spreadmind sells three editions and a service wrapper: onboarding, a managed service, a back-office service and help with ZFU approval for distance courses in Germany. No prices appear on the pages we read. It is heavier than Podia, and the extra weight is the point for an organisation without a platform team.

Spreadmind GmbH is in Rottweil, and the vendor says it runs managed hosting on Amazon AWS in Frankfurt. That gives you a German address and a German region on a US-owned cloud. If your procurement policy excludes non-European infrastructure owners, that detail decides the outcome.

What Spreadmind does better than Podia

  • Managed hosting, updates and backups by the vendor
  • ZFU approval help for German distance-learning courses
  • Separate B2C, B2B and employee-training editions

Where Spreadmind is a step down from Podia

  • No published prices
  • Far more setup than a creator tool like Podia
  • German-first site

Standout against Podia. It is the only tool here that helps with Germany's ZFU approval for distance courses.

DigiMember

A WordPress plugin that keeps member data on your own hosting

Münster, GermanyDigiMember PRO EUR 47/month or EUR 397/year excl. VAT, billed through DigiStore24; a free start version is offered#10 in Online Course Platforms

Best for: WordPress site owners who want access control over their own content, not a hosted platform

DigiMember replaces Podia's member area only if you already run WordPress. It protects pages, posts and courses, drips lessons on a schedule and blocks access when an instalment is missed. PRO costs EUR 47 a month or EUR 397 a year excluding VAT, billed through DigiStore24, and includes all features.

Digital Solutions GmbH in Münster has made the plugin since 2013 according to its site. Member data stays in your WordPress database, so the jurisdiction question is answered by whichever host you choose. You also take on hosting, security and video delivery, none of which Podia asks of you.

What DigiMember does better than Podia

  • Member data stays in your own database
  • One price with every feature unlocked
  • Established since 2013 per the vendor
  • Payment-based access control that blocks missed instalments

Where DigiMember is a step down from Podia

  • No hosted course player, app or community
  • You maintain WordPress, backups and security
  • Licence handling runs through DigiStore24

Standout against Podia. It is the only tool here that leaves your member data in a database you control.

edudip

A webinar tool that replaces Podia's events feature, not its course module

Aachen, GermanyCreator EUR 29/month (30 participants), Starter EUR 119/month (100 participants), Premium EUR 299/month (500 participants), monthly billing; lower rates billed yearly#4 in Webinar Software

Best for: German-speaking trainers who sell paid live sessions and want German data storage

edudip is not a course platform. It covers the live-session part of what Podia calls events: paid webinars with automatic invoicing, plans sized by participant count from 30 to 500, and optional technical support while you present. Creator costs EUR 29 a month, Starter EUR 119 and Premium EUR 299 on monthly billing.

edudip GmbH in Aachen states that personal data is stored exclusively on German servers. The site is mostly German, the cheapest plan stops a session at 2 hours, and bigger audiences need a quote. Pair it with a course tool from this list rather than expecting it to replace one.

What edudip does better than Podia

  • Paid webinars with invoices sent automatically
  • Personal data stated to stay on German servers
  • Live technical support during a session

Where edudip is a step down from Podia

  • No lessons, quizzes or member area
  • Mostly German-language site
  • Audience caps by plan

Standout against Podia. It is the only tool here that bills participants and issues their invoices for a live session.

edudip.com Visit edudip

What actually breaks when you switch

The first break is the checkout. Podia's pricing page promises a built-in checkout and sales tax handling in 230 countries, so existing buyers pay through a flow you never configured. On a European platform you usually connect Stripe, PayPal, Mollie or Digistore24 yourself, set VAT rules and decide who issues invoices. Do that before you move a single learner, or the first renewal week will be a mess.

The second break is content shape. Lessons, files and email addresses move; drip schedules, automations, community threads and custom pages do not. Memberspot and LearningSuite handle exams well, Teachizy and LearnyBox suit French sellers, and systeme.io lists a free migration service on Unlimited. Tell existing students in advance, keep Podia running for a month alongside the new tool, and cancel only after the first full billing cycle. Podia's yearly plans are not refundable in part.

Can I move my Podia courses and customers to a European platform?

Podia's own pricing page describes what it migrates into Podia, which tells you what to expect in the other direction: course files and text, digital downloads, customer email addresses and free community members move with some effort, while checkout history, tax records and email automations usually do not. Export your customer list and your course videos and documents from Podia before you cancel, and keep a copy of payment records from Stripe or PayPal.

Which European tool receives them depends on the tool. systeme.io lists a free migration service on its Unlimited plan, LearningSuite and Spreadmind sell onboarding help, and Memberspot, Coachy and Teachizy expect you to rebuild lessons in their editors. Plan for a week of rebuilding for a small course, longer if you have quizzes, drip schedules and a community to recreate.

Is Podia legal to use for European customers?

Yes. Podia's privacy policy has a section for residents of the EU, the UK, Liechtenstein, Norway and Iceland that lists GDPR rights and names your national supervisory authority as the place to complain. Nothing on the pages we read says a European creator may not use it.

The question is what you can promise your own learners. If your privacy notice says learner data stays in the EU, Podia cannot back that up, because its policy says the opposite. If your notice simply discloses a transfer to the United States under standard data protection clauses, Podia fits. The European platforms mostly let you write the shorter, simpler sentence.

Which one to pick

If you sell your own courses under your own brand, start with LearnWorlds or Memberspot. LearnWorlds goes deeper on video and funnels; Memberspot is simpler, German-first and fee-free. If you want everything on one cheap invoice, systeme.io is the closest to Podia's shape with a free plan, and LearnyBox does the same in French.

If you are a French trainer, take Teachizy. If you sell mostly through Digistore24, take Coachy or DigiMember. If a company or agency wants someone else to set it up, take LearningSuite or Spreadmind. And if you run exams for many participants at a flat price, take Easy LMS. Stay on Podia if you are happy with US hosting, your sales are small and the all-in-one bundle saves you real time.

Frequently Asked Questions

It depends on which part of Podia you use. LearnWorlds is the nearest match for a branded course business, Memberspot suits German-speaking coaches who want no fee per sale, and systeme.io covers courses, funnels and email on a free plan from an Irish company. Teachizy and LearnyBox serve French-speaking sellers. None of them copies the full Podia bundle, so match modules before you compare prices.

Memberspot lists a 0% transaction fee on every plan, and systeme.io lists 0% on all of its paid plans. Teachizy takes a 9% commission on its free plan. Podia charges 5% on Mover only. Your payment provider still takes its own cut on every platform, so compare the combined cost on your real monthly sales.

Three have permanent free plans with limits. systeme.io's free plan includes 3 funnels, 1 course, 1 blog and a custom domain, Teachizy's allows 3 courses and 70 learners, and LearnyBox's covers 1 course for 20 learners. Podia has no free plan, only a 14-day trial. DigiMember offers a free start version for WordPress, and Coachy and Memberspot offer 30-day and 14-day trials.

systeme.io states AWS servers in Ireland, Teachizy states servers in France, LearningSuite states Frankfurt and edudip states German servers. Memberspot and Coachy say EU hosting without naming a provider, and DigiMember keeps data on your own WordPress host. Spreadmind runs on AWS in Frankfurt. Ask each vendor for its sub-processor list, because several use US-owned cloud providers inside EU regions.

LearnyBox and systeme.io. LearnyBox combines courses, funnels, a CRM, email and webinars from EUR 39 a month, with a free plan, and systeme.io bundles courses, funnels, email, a blog and an affiliate programme from $17 a month. Both are broader than they are deep, which is the same trade-off Podia makes, only with European contracting entities.
