European Alternatives to Adobe Sign

Looking for a European alternative to Adobe Sign? Adobe sells it as Acrobat Sign. Customers in Europe contract with Adobe Systems Software Ireland Limited under Irish law, but the parent is Adobe Inc. in San Jose, which Adobe lists as an affiliate providing technical and support services, with transfers to the US covered by standard contractual clauses and the Data Privacy Framework.

Eleven European e-signature tools cover the job, from simple signing to qualified signatures under eIDAS, from companies in France, Lithuania, Switzerland, Austria, Poland, the UK, Germany, Sweden, Denmark and Italy.

How we rank these tools — 4-step process
  1. 1
    European ownership, verified

The company is headquartered and incorporated in the EU, EEA or Switzerland, and processes customer data in Europe. A US parent company disqualifies a tool from this page regardless of where its servers are.

  2. 2
    Category fit and hands-on review

What the tool actually does, who it suits, and where it falls short — checked against the vendor’s own documentation, changelog and pricing page rather than its marketing copy.

  3. 3
    Compliance and pricing check

GDPR posture, hosting location and the prices quoted on this page are verified against the vendor’s public pricing before publication, and re-checked when we revisit the category.

  4. 4
    Position on this page

Placement on this page can be paid, and that can affect which tools appear here and the order they appear in. It never buys a good review: a tool that fails the checks above is not here at any price, and payment does not change the shortcomings we write about. A vendor can ask us to correct a factual error — not to remove a criticism.

Vendors can pay for visibility on this page. It never changes what an entry says about a product, including the criticism, and we earn nothing when you click through to a vendor. Paid placement can affect which tools appear here and the order they appear in. Editorial policy

Key takeaways

  • Adobe's terms name Adobe Systems Software Ireland Limited under Irish law for customers in Europe, but Adobe Inc. in San Jose is the parent and an affiliate on its sub-processor list.
  • Youtrust (formerly Yousign, France) is the easiest to try: a Free plan with 2 requests a month, One at €9 and Plus at €23 per user, with a 14-day trial.
  • Dokobit (Lithuania) and Skribble (Switzerland) are the ones to look at for qualified signatures, with per-signature prices published on their pricing pages.
  • sproof (Austria), Autenti (Poland), Legalesign (UK), inSign (Germany) and Penneo (Denmark) publish prices on their own pages; Scrive, FP Sign and Namirial do not show amounts.
  • Namirial is an Italian contracting entity but majority owned by Bain Capital since 2025, so it is last on this page by design.
  • None of the eleven replaces Acrobat's PDF editing, and most do not match Adobe's catalogue of integrations.

Why people leave Adobe Sign

Adobe Sign is now sold as Acrobat Sign. It is the e-signature product of the PDF company: you send a document from Acrobat or the web, collect signatures from several people, track status with an audit trail, and publish signable forms on a website.

It connects to Microsoft Word and Teams, Salesforce and Workday. On the US page the team plans, Acrobat Pro for teams and Acrobat Studio for teams, are listed at $23.99 and $29.99 per license per month, with a free trial, and larger organisations are pointed to the standalone enterprise Acrobat Sign.

The legal picture is more nuanced than "an American product". According to Adobe's terms, customers outside North America and Japan contract with Adobe Systems Software Ireland Limited, under Irish law.

Adobe Inc. in San Jose is the contracting entity for North America and the address for notices, and it appears on Adobe's sub-processor list as an affiliate providing technical and support services. Transfers outside the EEA rest on standard contractual clauses and the Data Privacy Framework. Acrobat Sign runs on AWS and Microsoft Azure, with a European region in Germany.

So the case for a European alternative is about the group and the data flow, not about the contract: a US parent behind an Irish contracting entity, support and sub-processors in the US and elsewhere, and a hosting stack run on two US cloud providers. If that is acceptable to you, Adobe's setup is a mainstream, well-documented one. If you want a signing provider that is itself European, eleven qualify here.

  • Irish contract, American parent Adobe's terms name Adobe Systems Software Ireland Limited for customers in Europe, with Irish law. The company behind it is Adobe Inc. of San Jose, which the same documents list as the North American contracting entity and as an affiliate providing technical and support services. If you want a counterparty whose whole group is European, none of that applies to the tools below, with one disclosed exception: Namirial is majority owned by a private-equity firm.
  • Data leaves the EEA by design Adobe's sub-processor page lists US-based providers for Acrobat Sign (LexisNexis Risk Solutions and Mitek Systems for ID checks, Telesign for SMS and voice), and says international transfers are covered by standard contractual clauses and the Data Privacy Framework. This is a lawful, documented route, but it is a route. Several European providers here state that customer data stays in EU data centres, for example Penneo, or that hosting is in Germany.
  • Acrobat is a bundle, signing is one part Adobe sells signing inside the Acrobat teams plans next to PDF editing and AI features, so you pay for the bundle. The European tools are signing-first products: Yousign (now Youtrust), Dokobit, Skribble and sproof publish plans from €9 to €23 a month, and Skribble and Dokobit also charge per qualified signature if you only need them occasionally.
  • The European signature levels are built in Under eIDAS there are three levels: simple, advanced and qualified. A qualified signature carries the same legal effect as a handwritten one across the EU. Dokobit, Skribble, sproof, Autenti, Legalesign, Penneo, FP Sign and Namirial each describe advanced or qualified signing on their own pages, and Penneo and Autenti describe national eID signing or electronic identification on their own pages.

What you have to replace, not just match

Start with what your Adobe Sign account actually does: how many documents a month, whether people sign on a phone, whether you use templates, bulk send, web forms or the API, and which integrations carry the workflow (Word, Teams, Salesforce, Workday). Many small teams use three of these features. Then check which signature level you need, because a qualified signature is only required for some contracts and costs more per signature.

Export your completed agreements and their audit trails before you cancel, and keep them in your own archive. Run a few real documents through the new provider with the same signers before you switch, and keep Acrobat for PDF editing if you use it for that, since several of these tools do not edit PDFs at all.

How each alternative compares to Adobe Sign

#1

Youtrust (Yousign)

the easiest to try, with a free plan and published prices

Paris, FranceFrom about €9/month#1 in E-Signatures

  • Which law reaches it. EU (France). Adobe Sign is run from the United States, so the CLOUD Act obliges the provider to hand over data on a valid order regardless of which country the servers are in.
  • Where the data sits. EU (France).
  • Source code. Closed source, as Adobe Sign is.
  • Independently checked. eIDAS compliant, qualified trust service provider.

Best for: Small and mid-sized teams that want to start free and read prices before signing up

Yousign now trades as Youtrust, and the legal notice names Youtrust SAS, registered in Caen (RCS Caen B 794 513 986). Its hosting provider is Amazon Web Services EMA SARL, the French branch of AWS, in Courbevoie, so the infrastructure is on a US cloud provider with a French contracting entity. The page says plans use EU-hosted storage; the terms were not read.

The pricing page lists Free with 2 signature requests a month, One at €9 a month, Plus at €23 per user and Pro at €38 per user on monthly billing, with 2 months free on yearly billing, and a 14-day trial. Free allows unlimited self-signing.

It describes a broader trust platform of e-signature, identity verification and KYC, so it goes beyond signing.

What Youtrust (Yousign) does better than Adobe Sign

  • A Free plan, where Acrobat Sign comes inside paid team plans
  • French contracting entity rather than an Irish subsidiary of a US parent
  • Plain published prices for four tiers
  • Identity verification and KYC from the same vendor

Where Youtrust (Yousign) is a step down from Adobe Sign

  • Hosted on AWS, a US cloud provider, via its French branch
  • Free plan is only 2 requests a month
  • No PDF editing and fewer app integrations than Adobe
  • Renamed recently, so older documentation may use the Yousign name

Standout against Adobe Sign. A free plan and four published prices in a market where Adobe shows only team bundles.

#2

Dokobit

per-signature pricing for qualified signatures, from Vilnius

Vilnius, LithuaniaNot published; pricing documents on request

  • Which law reaches it. EU (Lithuania). Adobe Sign is run from the United States, so the CLOUD Act obliges the provider to hand over data on a valid order regardless of which country the servers are in.
  • Source code. Closed source, as Adobe Sign is.
  • Independently checked. Qualified timestamps; portal powered by Signicat, a QTSP.

Best for: People and small teams who need qualified signatures only now and then

Dokobit is Dokobit, UAB, legal entity code 301549834, with its registered office at Paupio street 50-136 in Vilnius. Its terms are governed by Lithuanian law with the competent Lithuanian court, and the portal footer says it is powered by Signicat, a Norwegian trust-services provider.

Pricing lists Free at €0 with 3 signatures a month and 100 MB storage, Professional at €10 per user with 20 free signatures, Business at €22 per user with 30 and team features, and Enterprise at €25 per user. Each signature beyond the allowance costs €0.33 to €0.55, qualified or simple, excluding VAT.

The document owner pays for all collected signatures, and each signer counts as one.

What Dokobit does better than Adobe Sign

  • Qualified signatures at a published per-signature price
  • A Free tier with 3 signatures a month
  • Lithuanian entity with Lithuanian law and courts
  • Cheap entry compared with Acrobat team bundles

Where Dokobit is a step down from Adobe Sign

  • Per-signature costs add up when many people sign
  • The owner pays for every signer, which changes how you budget
  • Smaller integration catalogue than Adobe
  • Free tier has only 100 MB of storage

Standout against Adobe Sign. It prices qualified and simple signatures per signature on its own pricing page, so a small volume stays cheap.

Its signing platform is eSignAnyWhere. We could not find prices on its pages, so no amount is quoted here.

Where Namirial is a step down from Adobe Sign

  • Majority owned by a US private-equity firm
  • No prices on the pages we read
  • Built for enterprises more than for self-serve teams
  • We did not verify the governing law

Standout against Adobe Sign. It offers the widest trust-services range here, from PKI to e-invoicing, at group scale.

What actually breaks when you switch

The hard part of leaving Acrobat Sign is the integrations. If signing is triggered from Salesforce, Workday, Teams or Word, check for a connector before you move, and expect API work if there is none. Several of these tools have an API, but only some list ready-made connectors.

Check what each signature level costs at your volume. Dokobit and Skribble charge per qualified signature, sproof and Skribble include a yearly allowance, and extra signatures cost €1 to €5. A plan that looks cheap at 20 signatures can be expensive at 2,000.

Several contracts run 12 months with automatic renewal (Penneo, FP Sign, inSign's enterprise tiers). Read the cancellation notice before you start a long term, especially on annual billing.

Is Adobe Sign a European company?

No. Adobe Inc. is in San Jose, California. For customers outside North America and Japan, Adobe's terms name Adobe Systems Software Ireland Limited as the contracting entity, under Irish law, so your contract is with an Irish company.

The difference matters mostly for data: Adobe lists Adobe Inc. as an affiliate providing technical and support services and relies on standard contractual clauses and the Data Privacy Framework for transfers.

Which European tools offer qualified electronic signatures?

Dokobit publishes per-signature prices for qualified signatures (€0.44 on Professional, €0.33 on Business and Enterprise), Skribble includes 72 to 120 advanced or qualified signatures a year per user on Team and Pro, sproof includes 10 qualified signatures a year on Single, and Legalesign lists a qualified signature from Solo Pro. Autenti, Penneo, FP Sign and Namirial describe qualified signing on their sites.

Qualified signatures need an identity check once, and some providers charge for it: Skribble lists a one-off €24.50.

Which of these can I try for free?

Youtrust has a Free plan with 2 signature requests a month and a 14-day trial of the paid plans. Dokobit has a Free plan with 3 signatures a month, sproof describes a free private plan, and Skribble's Starter plan has no subscription. inSign offers a trial account with no credit card and no end date.

Autenti, Legalesign and sproof offer 14-day trials, Skribble 14 days for Team and Pro, and FP Sign 30 days. Penneo, Scrive and Namirial do not show a self-serve trial on the pages we read.

Can these replace Acrobat's PDF tools too?

Not in general. Adobe Sign sits inside Acrobat, which edits, converts and annotates PDFs. The European tools here are built to prepare, send and sign documents, with templates, reminders and audit trails. If you edit PDFs a lot, you may keep an Acrobat licence and move only the signing.

Which one to pick

If you want to start free and read prices, Youtrust (Yousign) is the easiest place to begin, and Dokobit is the cleaner choice if you only need qualified signatures now and then. Skribble and sproof are the two to compare if qualified signing is the main reason for the move.

If you want a vendor that fits a specific setting, Autenti suits Polish and Central European companies, Penneo suits accountants and advisers, Scrive suits teams that also need ID checks, inSign offers on-premises, and FP Sign offers German data centres. Legalesign is the pay-per-document choice, and a UK company outside the EU.

Namirial is last because of its private-equity ownership, not because it lacks capability. It is the one to pick if you need a large trust-service provider and have accepted that ownership.

Be realistic about the gap. Adobe has deeper integrations and PDF editing than any of the eleven, and its Irish contracting entity is a legitimate answer for many customers. Move if you want a European group behind the signing and a court close to home, and stay if the integrations you use have no equivalent.

Frequently Asked Questions

For most small teams, Youtrust (formerly Yousign) is the easiest place to start, because it has a free plan, published prices and a 14-day trial. Dokobit and Skribble are stronger if you need qualified signatures on a per-signature basis. There is no single best: it depends on the signature level, the volume and the integrations you need.

Adobe sells it as Acrobat Sign. Adobe Inc. is headquartered in San Jose, California. For customers outside North America and Japan, the contracting entity in Adobe's terms is Adobe Systems Software Ireland Limited, under Irish law.

On Adobe's US page, the team plans that include Acrobat Sign are Acrobat Pro for teams at $23.99 and Acrobat Studio for teams at $29.99 per license per month, with a free trial and up to 10 licences at the start. The standalone enterprise Acrobat Sign has no public price. Prices differ by country, so check your own region's page.

Youtrust lists Free, One at €9 a month, Plus at €23 per user and Pro at €38 per user on monthly billing, with two months free on yearly billing. Dokobit lists Free at €0 with 3 signatures a month, Professional at €10 per user, Business at €22 and Enterprise at €25, plus €0.33 to €0.55 per signature depending on level, excluding VAT.

Skribble lists Starter at no subscription (up to €1 per signature), Team at €23 per user a month and Pro at €36. sproof lists Single at €15 a month on annual billing and Team at €170 a month, excluding VAT. Autenti lists PRO at €30 a month or €20 on annual billing, and PREMIUM at €55 or €35, net.

Legalesign lists £1.50 per sent document, Solo Basic at £10 a month, Solo Pro at £25 and Team at £15 per user. inSign 365 is €24.90 per user a month, or €21.50 on yearly billing. Penneo's Sign Essential starts at DKK 899 a month on annual billing with 500 signatures a year, and Sign Plus at DKK 1,250.

Yes. Yousign's website now redirects to youtrust.com, and the pricing page says Yousign becomes Youtrust. The legal notice names Youtrust SAS, registered in Caen, France (RCS Caen B 794 513 986).

Namirial S.p.A. is a company in Senigallia, Italy, and a qualified trust service provider. Its own site says Bain Capital took a majority stake in July 2025 and PSG Equity joined in November 2025. That does not change the contracting entity, but if you want European ownership of the whole group, it is the one to weigh carefully, which is why it sits last on this page.

Skribble is Swiss, and Legalesign is a Scottish-registered company in the UK. Both are in Europe but outside the EU. The other nine contracting entities are in France, Lithuania, Austria, Poland, Germany, Sweden, Denmark and Italy.

Download the signed PDFs and the audit trails from your Adobe account before you cancel, and store them in your own archive. The European tools can sign new documents but do not import another provider's audit trail.
