Detailed Review

SAE CPQ is built by SAE Applications for Digitalization GmbH, whose imprint names Weng in Bavaria, the register court Landshut, register number B/5140 and managing director Susanne Henkel.

In May 2026 Xait, a document and proposal software group headquartered in Stavanger, Norway and backed by the Dutch investor Main Capital Partners, announced a majority stake, and the imprint now reads "an Xait company". Ownership therefore stays inside the EEA. SAE says it started as an SAP consultancy, built variant management first, then a CPQ and then a web platform, and dates its pioneering work in variant management and CPQ to 2000.

The product targets capital-goods makers whose offers need a guaranteed buildable configuration: technically valid configurations, automatic parts lists, configuration-dependent pricing and approval workflows, plus an interactive 3D CPQ add-on. The distinctive part is SAP. A bidirectional interface cockpit exchanges data with SAP ERP and S/4HANA, and existing SAP LO-VC or AVC variant configurations can be imported with their rule sets and master data. The platform also exposes APIs for ERP, CRM, PLM, PIM and CAD systems.

SAE's certifications page shows ISO/IEC 27001:2022 under a TÜV certificate and the BITMi "Software Made in Germany" seal. No price is published and the route in is an appointment. Customers use the software "in private or public clouds" without a stated region, and claims such as a 100% success rate or use in over 100 countries are the vendor's own and could not be checked.

What SAE CPQ does well

  • Registered German company with register court and number in its imprint, and a public press release for the Xait acquisition
  • Two-way SAP interface that imports existing LO-VC and AVC configurations with their rule sets
  • ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certification and the Software Made in Germany seal on its own certifications page
  • Variant management and CPQ on one platform, so portfolio clean-up and quoting share a product model
  • Interactive 3D CPQ add-on for configuring products in 3D

Where SAE CPQ falls short

  • No pricing published; the only route in is booking an appointment
  • Hosting region is not stated; customers use private or public clouds
  • Control passed to Xait in May 2026, a group with offices in the United States, so the ownership picture is new
  • Claims such as a 100% success rate and use in over 100 countries are vendor statements we could not verify

Standout feature. Imports existing SAP LO-VC and AVC variant configurations with their rule sets and exchanges quote data with SAP in both directions through its own interface cockpit.
