European Ticketing Platforms

Ticketing platforms sell tickets for concerts, conferences, clubs, museums and festivals, and handle payment, check-in and attendee lists. A European option matters because buyer names, e-mail addresses and order histories then sit with a contracting entity in Germany, France, Italy, Ireland, Switzerland, Belgium, Estonia, Iceland, Norway or the Netherlands instead of a US marketplace.

How we rank these tools — 4-step process
  1. 1
    European ownership, verified

The company is headquartered and incorporated in the EU, EEA, the UK, Switzerland or Israel, and processes customer data in Europe or Israel. A US parent company disqualifies a tool from this page regardless of where its servers are.

  2. 2
    Category fit and hands-on review

What the tool actually does, who it suits, and where it falls short — checked against the vendor’s own documentation, changelog and pricing page rather than its marketing copy.

  3. 3
    Compliance and pricing check

GDPR posture, hosting location and the prices quoted on this page are verified against the vendor’s public pricing before publication, and re-checked when we revisit the category.

  4. 4
    Position on this page

Placement on this page can be paid, and that can affect the order tools appear in. It never buys a listing: a tool that fails the checks above is not here at any price, and payment does not change the shortcomings we write about. A vendor can ask us to correct a factual error — not to remove a criticism.

Vendors can pay for visibility on this page. It never changes what an entry says about a product, including the criticism, and we earn nothing when you click through to a vendor. Vendors can pay for more visibility, higher up on the review pages; it never affects whether a tool is listed. Editorial policy

Key takeaways

  • pretix from Heidelberg is the only ticketing platform in this ranking whose code you can run on your own server, and its hosted fee is 2.5% of the ticket price with a cap of EUR 15.
  • Billetweb in Paris publishes a complete per-ticket price, 0,29 € + 1 % per paid ticket with bank fees included, which comes to 0,79 € on a 50 € ticket.
  • Reservix, Eventfrog, Xceed, Fienta and Tikkio are the five entries with a public listing or portal, so they are the nearest to a marketplace in the Ticketmaster style.
  • Tixly (Iceland) and ticketmatic (Belgium) are built for theatres and concert halls with subscriptions, and neither publishes a rate card.
  • Tikkio (Norway), Tixly (Iceland), Eventfrog and Ticketpark (Switzerland) sit outside the EU, while Norway and Iceland belong to the EEA and Switzerland has an adequacy decision.

European ticketing platforms are the shops, apps and scanners that sell event tickets and manage entry, run by a company established in Europe, which matters because the buyer list, the payout and the refund rules then sit under European law and a contracting party you can name.

Which European ticketing platform should an organiser choose?

Start from what you sell, because the thirteen platforms in this ranking split into four jobs. Conferences and festivals with their own audience fit pretix and Tito. Theatres and halls with season tickets fit Tixly and ticketmatic. Attractions with daily capacity fit Ticketcounter. Clubs, student nights and one-off public events fit Xceed, Fienta, Yurplan and Billetweb.

Then decide whether you need discovery. Reservix runs a consumer portal with a hotline and booking offices, and Eventfrog pairs ticketing with a Swiss event agenda. The rest are shops that sell under your brand, so the buyers arrive through your own channels.

How do ticketing platform fees compare?

Six of the thirteen publish a number you can calculate. On a 50 € ticket, Billetweb takes 0,79 €, pretix 1,25 € before payment-provider fees, and Tito 1,50 € plus gateway fees. Eventfrog Plus takes CHF 1.69 on a CHF 50 ticket, and Ticketpark takes CHF 3.00 in its 6,00% band. Xceed charges from 3% and sells monthly plans at 29 € and 44 € on annual billing.

Reservix, Fienta, Yurplan, Tikkio and Ticketcounter show no rates on the pages we read. Tixly scales with revenue and ticketmatic with prepaid yearly volume plus a one-time setup fee. Ask those seven for a written example on your own average ticket price, and ask who pays the payment-provider fee.

Check the cap too. The pretix cap of EUR 15 and the Tito cap of EUR 25 only matter for expensive tickets, such as a conference pass. A percentage with no cap, like the Ticketpark bands, grows with the price.

Where do European ticketing platforms store buyer data?

pretix states that all data is stored in Germany on servers in datacenters operated by German companies, and that it is certified to ISO/IEC 27001. Tito says personal data is held on servers in the European Economic Area, and names Amazon Web Services and Intercom as service providers.

The other eleven do not state a hosting location on the pages we read. Xceed adds that some shared services are outside Europe. Tikkio shares data with two other companies for marketing. Ask each shortlisted vendor for the hosting country, the sub-processor list and the controller or processor role in writing.

The role matters as much as the location. Fienta writes that it acts as processor and the organiser as controller, and pretix describes the same split. Under that split you hold the buyer relationship and the legal duties that come with it.

What changes when you leave Ticketmaster for a European platform?

The audience does not move with you. Ticketmaster is a US marketplace whose home page, in the version we read, offers deals, hotels and VIP packages next to the events. Most European tools sell only under your own brand, so you carry the marketing yourself, with your website, newsletter and social channels.

What you gain is a named contracting party and a price you can read. Billetweb, pretix, Tito, Eventfrog and Ticketpark print their fee models. Ticketpark and Billetweb also state that the guest data belongs to the organiser. Keep the old system running for tickets already sold, and move the next event rather than the one on sale.

When is it better not to switch from Ticketmaster?

When the marketplace brings the buyers. A European shop does not create demand, and only the platforms with a public listing offer discovery, mostly on a regional scale. Reservix targets German cities, Eventfrog Switzerland, Germany and Austria, Tikkio Norway and its neighbours.

Another reason is a venue contract that ties you to an existing system, or a season already on sale. In that case use a European platform for the events you promote yourself and leave the contracted ones alone. A split like that costs little and tests the new shop with real sales.

How do you check a ticketing platform before you sign?

Run a short test with one small event. Sell a handful of tickets, scan them at the door with the real app, request a refund and an export of the buyer list, and note how long the payout takes. Eventfrog pays after the event on its Free and Plus models, which a pre-paying festival cannot use.

Then read the legal pages. Fienta dates its terms 25 May 2018 and Yurplan its user terms June 2018, while Tikkio dates its customer privacy notice February 2026. A date does not make a platform good or bad, but it tells you how recently someone looked at the text, and which questions to put to the vendor.

How we selected and ranked these 13 tools

Every tool on this page is in the European Purpose directory, which means the operating company is established in Europe and we have verified that from the company register or the vendor's own legal notice rather than from a marketing page. Tools headquartered outside Europe are not eligible, however good they are.

  1. Feature verification (weight: 40%). We check each capability against the vendor's own documentation and product pages, and record what the tool does rather than what the category is assumed to include.
  2. Ease of adoption (weight: 30%). Integrations, published API access, trial availability and how much configuration stands between signing and a usable result.
  3. Value and transparency (weight: 30%). Published pricing counts in a vendor's favour; quote-only pricing is recorded as quote-only rather than estimated. We weigh what a buyer gets for the entry price, not the headline feature count.
  4. Editorial review. Every page is researched and drafted with AI assistance, and the compliance and pricing claims are checked against the vendor's documentation before it is published under the founder's editorial responsibility. The three weights above decide the order; a position is a ranking against the other European tools in this category, not an absolute score.

Vendor-reported outcomes — ROI figures, margin uplift, time saved — are labelled as vendor claims wherever they appear on this page. We have not audited them, and neither has anyone else who quotes them. Read our full editorial process for how pages are re-verified.

Frequently asked questions

It depends on the criterion. For open-source code and a capped fee, pretix. For a public per-ticket price in euros, Billetweb. For a consumer portal in German-speaking markets, Reservix. For theatres with subscriptions, Tixly or ticketmatic. For attractions with time slots, Ticketcounter. No single platform wins on every criterion in this ranking.

Billetweb, Tito, pretix (after the first 500 per year), Eventfrog (Free model) and Xceed (Essential plan) all charge nothing or very little for free events. pretix charges EUR 0.50 per free ticket after the first 500 each year. Check the vendor page for the current terms before you plan.

pretix is published under the AGPL v3 with additional terms and has a Community Edition you can install yourself. The vendor marks which features exist only in the Hosted and Enterprise editions. Self-hosting means you maintain the server and updates. None of the other twelve platforms in this ranking is open source.

Reservix has a portal with city and genre browsing, Eventfrog an agenda it calls the largest in Switzerland, Xceed a city listing, and Fienta and Tikkio public event search. Each reaches a regional audience. The remaining platforms are organiser software that sells under your own brand.

Tixly and ticketmatic. Tixly includes setup, migration, hosting and training in its price and lists PCI DSS and SOC 1. ticketmatic adds an audience CRM, subscriptions and membership, and cites Ancienne Belgique and Concertgebouw Brugge. Neither publishes rates, so request a quote.

Norway and Iceland are in the EEA, so GDPR applies to Tikkio and Tixly. Switzerland is outside the EEA and has an adequacy decision, so Eventfrog and Ticketpark rely on that decision and on their own notices. Ticketpark names an EEA contact in Hamburg for GDPR matters.
