European Online Tutoring Marketplaces Tools

An online tutoring marketplace connects students with private tutors for one-to-one lessons, booked and paid through the platform. Student and tutor data includes children's names, schools and learning difficulties, so the contracting entity and the applicable law matter. The tools below are run by companies in the UK, Spain, Austria, Germany and France.

How we rank these tools — 4-step process
  1. 1
    European ownership, verified

The company is headquartered and incorporated in the EU, EEA, the UK, Switzerland or Israel, and processes customer data in Europe or Israel. A US parent company disqualifies a tool from this page regardless of where its servers are.

  2. 2
    Category fit and hands-on review

What the tool actually does, who it suits, and where it falls short — checked against the vendor’s own documentation, changelog and pricing page rather than its marketing copy.

  3. 3
    Compliance and pricing check

GDPR posture, hosting location and the prices quoted on this page are verified against the vendor’s public pricing before publication, and re-checked when we revisit the category.

  4. 4
    Position on this page

Placement on this page can be paid, and that can affect the order tools appear in. It never buys a listing: a tool that fails the checks above is not here at any price, and payment does not change the shortcomings we write about. A vendor can ask us to correct a factual error — not to remove a criticism.

Vendors can pay for visibility on this page. It never changes what an entry says about a product, including the criticism, and we earn nothing when you click through to a vendor. Vendors can pay for more visibility, higher up on the review pages; it never affects whether a tool is listed. Editorial policy

Key takeaways

  • Wyzant's privacy policy states that its site is hosted in the United States and governed by United States law, which is the reason families in Europe look at Tutorful, MyTutor and the other tools on this page.
  • Tutorful and MyTutor are the two UK marketplaces that state no subscription: Tutorful says no upfront fees and payment after the lesson, MyTutor says no sign-up fees and a free 15-minute meeting.
  • GoStudent in Vienna sells monthly memberships of 4, 6, 8 or 12 fifty-minute units from €19.99 per unit, while Schülerhilfe and Studienkreis in Germany list group lessons from €8.76 and €8.40 on long terms.
  • Six of the twelve tools are run from the United Kingdom, among them Tutorful, TheTutorLink, Spires, MyTutor, Apprentus and Tavistock Tutors, and the UK holds an EU adequacy decision rather than EEA membership.
  • Acadomia in France is the only tool here that states its hosting provider, AWS EMEA SARL, and the only one that applies a 50% instant tax credit to home lessons.

A European online tutoring marketplace is a platform, run by a company in the UK or the EU, where students or parents find private tutors, book one-to-one or small-group lessons and pay through the platform; the European operator matters because the account holds a child's name, school year and learning difficulties, and the contract, the applicable law and the regulator are then European.

Tutorful is the trading name of Tutora Ltd, a company in Sheffield registered in England and Wales under number 09370702, with its registered office at Dearing House on Young Street. The terms apply English law and give the English courts exclusive jurisdiction. A parent signs with a UK company, and the UK sits outside the EEA under an adequacy decision.

Booking starts from a short questionnaire on subject, level and goals, after which Tutorful returns a shortlist it describes as experienced and background-checked. Lessons run in a classroom with an interactive whiteboard and shared documents, and Tutorful says they are recorded for rewatching. The guarantee is that Tutorful pays for the next lesson with a new tutor if the first one disappoints. Tutor prices and hosting are not shown on the pages we read.

What Tutorful does well

  • Company number and registered address published
  • No upfront fees, contracts or commitments
  • Payment after the lesson

  • Strong UK school focus (Key Stage, GCSE, National 5)
  • Data hosting location not stated
  • Shortlist is chosen by Tutorful rather than a free search on the pages we read

A student posts a request, tutors answer with bids, and the student reads profiles and reviews before messaging anyone. Spires states that every class is recorded for later viewing and that video chat tools let people work together. The imprint says local sites belong to Schülerhilfe GmbH & Co. KG, a subsidiary, or to franchise partners, and in Austria to Schülerhilfe Österreich GmbH. The service is in German.

Small-group lessons start at €8.76 and one-to-one at €24.12 an hour. The footnotes tie the lowest price to a 24-month term and to the location, and a registration fee of up to €69 may apply. Contracts are cancellable monthly, but leaving early means paying what a shorter contract would have cost. The first trial lesson is free, lessons can run online, and the AI assistant Kira is included at selected locations.

What Schülerhilfe does well

The legal notice states that the site is hosted by AWS EMEA SARL, the only hosting statement found on any of these tools' pages. The seat of DOMIA GROUP SA was not extracted.

Families can choose home lessons, weekly centre classes of 4 to 8 pupils or online group courses. Centre courses cost €76 to €145 TTC a month and online group courses €69 to €114, as indicative 2026/2027 prices. Home lessons have no minimum duration and carry a 50% instant tax credit; group courses are excluded. Acadomia gives no free trial lesson but offers a free pedagogical assessment, and it counts 110 centres in France.

How do I choose between a marketplace, a membership and a local centre?

Start from how often lessons happen. A marketplace such as Tutorful, MyTutor, Spires or TheTutorLink fits irregular lessons: you book a tutor and pay for the hour. A membership such as GoStudent fits a weekly rhythm, since it sells 4, 6, 8 or 12 units a month. A centre such as Studienkreis, Schülerhilfe or Acadomia fits a family that wants a classroom and a fixed program.

Then look at who chooses the tutor. On Spires the tutors bid, on Tutorful a shortlist is built from a questionnaire, on Tavistock Tutors a paid consultant matches the tutor, and on FindTutors you read ads yourself. The more the platform chooses, the less you need to compare, and usually the higher the price.

What does online tutoring cost across these tools?

Hourly prices run from £12 on FindTutors, which is a tutor's asking rate, through £26 on MyTutor and £28 in a TheTutorLink sample listing, to £50 on Tavistock Tutors. In euros, GoStudent starts at €19.99 per 50-minute unit and Schülerhilfe at €24.12 an hour for one-to-one. Studienkreis lists online single tutoring from €18.45.

Group prices are lower but tied to commitment. Schülerhilfe lists €8.76 per lesson on a 24-month term, Studienkreis €8.40 per 45 minutes on 12 months, and Acadomia €69 to €114 a month for online group courses. Spires, Apprentus and Classgap show no prices on the pages we read, so a quote has to be requested.

Which tools offer a free trial or a first-lesson guarantee?

Classgap offers a free 20-minute class and GoStudent a free trial lesson with no credit card. Studienkreis gives two free 45-minute lessons on-site, and Schülerhilfe makes the first trial lesson free. MyTutor offers a free 15-minute meeting, which is a conversation rather than a lesson.

Tutorful works with a guarantee: if the first lesson is not good, Tutorful pays for the next one with a new tutor. TheTutorLink says most tutors offer a free or £5 trial. Acadomia has no free trial but offers a free pedagogical assessment, and Tavistock Tutors, Spires, Apprentus and FindTutors describe no trial on the pages we read.

Does a European tutoring provider keep a child's data in Europe?

Not automatically, and the pages are thin on this point. Only Acadomia names a host, AWS EMEA SARL in its legal notice. For the other eleven tools, we did not find a statement of where data is stored.

What the European and UK operators do give is a contracting entity: an English company number for Tutorful, Spires, MyTutor, Apprentus and Tavistock Tutors, a Firmenbuch number for GoStudent, an HRB number for Schülerhilfe and Studienkreis, and a Barcelona register entry for Tus Media.

Ownership links also matter. Classgap and FindTutors share an owner, Tus Media S.L., and both terms mention sharing teacher data with GoStudent entities. The Studienkreis imprint shares a managing director with Tutor Holding GmbH. We did not verify those ownership links, so ask the provider which company receives your child's data.

What changes when I move from Wyzant to a European provider?

The tutor does not move. Wyzant tutors are independent professionals tied to a Wyzant account, so you start with a new person and a new set of notes. Save the lesson history before you leave. The pay-per-hour habit carries over to Tutorful, MyTutor and Spires, but not to GoStudent, Schülerhilfe or Studienkreis, which use plans and contracts.

Subject coverage narrows. Wyzant lists 300+ subjects; most European providers here centre on school exams of their own country, such as GCSE, A-Level, Abitur or the French curriculum. Apprentus and FindTutors list the widest ranges, and Classgap leans toward languages.

When is it better to stay with Wyzant?

Stay if your student needs a rare subject, an American test or a tutor already known from Wyzant. Wyzant lists 65,000 tutors in 300+ subjects, shows rates per tutor and guarantees the first hour with a new tutor, according to its own pages. No European tool here combines that range with hourly pricing.

The trade-off is jurisdiction. Wyzant says it is hosted in the United States under United States law, and its privacy rights section is written for California residents. If a school or employer must keep student data under EU rules, that settles the question; for a private lesson, you decide how much that matters.

How we selected and ranked these 12 tools

Every tool on this page is in the European Purpose directory, which means the operating company is established in Europe and we have verified that from the company register or the vendor's own legal notice rather than from a marketing page. Tools headquartered outside Europe are not eligible, however good they are.

  1. Feature verification (weight: 40%). We check each capability against the vendor's own documentation and product pages, and record what the tool does rather than what the category is assumed to include.
  2. Ease of adoption (weight: 30%). Integrations, published API access, trial availability and how much configuration stands between signing and a usable result.
  3. Value and transparency (weight: 30%). Published pricing counts in a vendor's favour; quote-only pricing is recorded as quote-only rather than estimated. We weigh what a buyer gets for the entry price, not the headline feature count.
  4. Editorial review. Every page is researched and drafted with AI assistance, and the compliance and pricing claims are checked against the vendor's documentation before it is published under the founder's editorial responsibility. The three weights above decide the order; a position is a ranking against the other European tools in this category, not an absolute score.

Vendor-reported outcomes — ROI figures, margin uplift, time saved — are labelled as vendor claims wherever they appear on this page. We have not audited them, and neither has anyone else who quotes them. Read our full editorial process for how pages are re-verified.

Frequently asked questions

That depends on the billing model you want. Tutorful and MyTutor, both British, are the closest to pay-per-lesson booking with no subscription. GoStudent from Vienna suits a monthly lesson plan priced in euros. Schülerhilfe and Studienkreis suit German families who want group tutoring near home, and Acadomia suits French families who can use a tax credit on home lessons.

FindTutors shows tutor ads from £12 an hour, but that is the tutors' own rate and the student fee structure is not stated. Studienkreis lists on-site lessons from €8.40 per 45 minutes on a 12-month contract, and Schülerhilfe from €8.76 per lesson on a 24-month term. Without a long contract, GoStudent starts at €19.99 per unit and MyTutor at £26 per hour.

Some state it. TheTutorLink advertises a 5% platform fee, Tavistock Tutors charges a one-off £90 membership for consultant matching, and Schülerhilfe may charge a registration fee of up to €69. Tutorful, MyTutor and Classgap state no upfront or sign-up fees. Spires, Apprentus and FindTutors show no fee structure on the pages we read, so ask before you book.

Six are: Classgap and FindTutors in Spain, GoStudent in Austria, Schülerhilfe and Studienkreis in Germany and Acadomia in France. The other six, Tutorful, TheTutorLink, Spires, MyTutor, Apprentus and Tavistock Tutors, are in the United Kingdom, which sits outside the EEA with an EU adequacy decision for data transfers.

Most offer online lessons. Tutorful, TheTutorLink and Spires run lessons in their own classrooms, GoStudent sells online units, and Studienkreis and Schülerhilfe offer online alongside local centres. Acadomia has online group courses and home lessons. FindTutors lists video-call lessons but they run in outside tools such as Zoom. Check the format before you pay, because some prices apply to on-site lessons only.
