European Online Therapy Platforms

Online therapy puts the most private conversation a person has onto a platform, together with intake questionnaires, session notes and payment data. The European platforms below keep that relationship with a company registered in the EU, the UK or another European jurisdiction, and they split into services for individuals and services that employers buy.

How we rank these tools — 4-step process
  1. 1
    European ownership, verified

The company is headquartered and incorporated in the EU, EEA, the UK, Switzerland or Israel, and processes customer data in Europe or Israel. A US parent company disqualifies a tool from this page regardless of where its servers are.

  2. 2
    Category fit and hands-on review

What the tool actually does, who it suits, and where it falls short — checked against the vendor’s own documentation, changelog and pricing page rather than its marketing copy.

  3. 3
    Compliance and pricing check

GDPR posture, hosting location and the prices quoted on this page are verified against the vendor’s public pricing before publication, and re-checked when we revisit the category.

  4. 4
    Position on this page

Placement on this page can be paid, and that can affect the order tools appear in. It never buys a listing: a tool that fails the checks above is not here at any price, and payment does not change the shortcomings we write about. A vendor can ask us to correct a factual error — not to remove a criticism.

Vendors can pay for visibility on this page. It never changes what an entry says about a product, including the criticism, and we earn nothing when you click through to a vendor. Vendors can pay for more visibility, higher up on the review pages; it never affects whether a tool is listed. Editorial policy

Key takeaways

  • Instahelp, run from Graz, is the entry point for readers who want to replace a subscription with individual sessions, because its site lists a price for each session (EUR 49 for a 30-minute introduction, EUR 89 for 50 minutes) and states that nothing renews.
  • It's Complicated in Berlin is a directory rather than an employer of therapists, so the fee is set by each practitioner and the platform itself costs the client nothing.
  • Mindler, Selfapy and HelloBetter are the three entries that sit inside national health systems, through the Swedish primary care route, German statutory insurance and the German DiGA prescription scheme respectively.
  • OpenUp, nilo, Spill, Oliva, Unmind and ifeel are sold to employers only, and Spill is the only one of the six that publishes a monthly price (GBP 75 and GBP 145).
  • HelloBetter published a notice dated 6 October 2026 about a security incident under Article 34 GDPR, which is the one data-protection event among these twelve providers that appears on the vendor's own site.

European online therapy platforms are services that connect people with psychologists, counsellors or structured digital programmes over video, phone, chat or an app, run by a company established in Europe, which matters because the conversations they hold are among the most sensitive personal data a provider can process and a European operator answers to a European supervisory authority and to national professional rules.

#1 Instahelp

Graz, Austria No subscription. Per session: EUR 49 for a 30-minute introduction, EUR 59 for 30 min, EUR 89 for 50 min, EUR 159 for a 75-minute couples session Demo on request

Best for: People buying individual counselling sessions one at a time, with no weekly membership

  • Operating company. Insta Communications GmbH (part of Up to Eleven Digital Solutions GmbH)
  • Jurisdiction. EU (Austria)
  • Where the data sits. No hosting location on the landing pages; the site claims GDPR compliance
  • Source code. Closed source
  • Replaces. BetterHelp

Instahelp lets a user book counselling with a psychologist by video, phone or text chat and pay for that session alone. A short questionnaire proposes psychologists, the chosen one reaches out through the platform within 24 hours according to the site, and the price list runs from EUR 49 for a 30-minute introduction to EUR 159 for a 75-minute couples session. The site lists more than 400 psychologists, a vendor figure.

The operator is Insta Communications GmbH in Graz, part of Up to Eleven Digital Solutions GmbH, with an Austrian register number and VAT ID in the imprint. The site is available in German, English, Spanish and French and claims GDPR compliance without naming a hosting country. Instahelp says it is not suitable in acute crises and does not mention insurer refunds on the pages we read.

What Instahelp does well

  • Each session has a listed price
  • Nothing to cancel afterwards
  • Video, phone or chat chosen per booking
  • Austrian imprint with register number and VAT ID
  • Couples sessions on the price list

Where Instahelp falls short

  • Insurer refunds not mentioned
  • Vendor excludes acute crises
  • Weekly 50-minute sessions cost EUR 89 each
  • No hosting country on the landing pages

Standout feature. Instahelp is the only platform here whose public price list ends at the single session, so stopping needs no cancellation step.

#2 It's Complicated

Berlin, Germany Founded 2019 Clients pay nothing to the platform and the fee of whichever therapist they choose. Company packages start at EUR 85 per session with a 25-session minimum Demo on request

Best for: Expats and multilingual clients who want to pick an independent therapist from profiles

  • Operating company. Mittelweg 50 Berlin GmbH
  • Jurisdiction. EU (Germany)
  • Where the data sits. EU data storage (vendor statement)
  • Source code. Closed source
  • Replaces. BetterHelp

It's Complicated is a directory of independent practitioners, and the platform says it neither employs them nor sets their rates. Clients filter by location, language, specialisation and approach, or ask for personal suggestions within 24 hours at no charge, then book text, audio, video or in-person sessions depending on what each practitioner offers.

The company is Mittelweg 50 Berlin GmbH in Berlin (commercial register HRB 217638 B), founded in 2019, and it states EU data storage. Its own facts page reports 2,500+ practitioners, 150,000+ sessions and counselling in 60+ languages, all unaudited vendor figures. Therapists pay a subscription for practice tools, from EUR 49.90 per month, and companies can buy packages from EUR 85 per session.

What It's Complicated does well

  • Matching suggestions cost the client nothing
  • Counselling in 60+ languages, per the vendor
  • Therapists decide their own formats and fees
  • The vendor states EU data storage
  • Company packages on offer

Where It's Complicated falls short

  • Every profile has its own price
  • Practitioners are independent, not staff
  • Insurer refunds not covered on the pages read
  • Figures come from the vendor's facts page

Standout feature. It's Complicated is the one where therapists, not the platform, own the fee and the format.

#3 Mindler

Sweden SEK 100 per session as patient fee in the publicly funded primary care route; late cancellation costs SEK 410; the private therapy price is listed on the site Demo on request

Best for: Residents of Sweden seeking psychologist treatment inside the public system, via an app

  • Operating company. Mindler AB
  • Jurisdiction. EU (Sweden)
  • Where the data sits. Hosting location not found in the pages read
  • Source code. Closed source
  • Replaces. BetterHelp

Mindler delivers psychologist-led treatment through an app and states on its English page that it works as a subcontractor to Frösjö Vårdcentral in Region Sörmland. That is why a session costs the patient a flat SEK 100 and why the Swedish high-cost protection card is accepted. Video sessions are combined with exercises from internet-delivered CBT programmes.

Mindler AB is a Swedish company and the site says every psychologist is licensed by Socialstyrelsen, the National Board of Health and Welfare. A missed or late-cancelled appointment carries a SEK 410 fee. Couples therapy and ADHD and autism services are listed as well. The main site is mostly in Swedish, and no private price or hosting location appeared in the text we read.

What Mindler does well

  • Socialstyrelsen-licensed psychologists, per the site
  • SEK 100 fee in the public route
  • Video appointments with app exercises between them
  • Couples therapy and ADHD services on the site
  • Swedish high-cost card accepted

Where Mindler falls short

  • Designed around the Swedish health system
  • Private price absent from the text read
  • SEK 410 charge for missed appointments
  • Swedish is the main site language

Standout feature. Mindler is the only entry that delivers therapy as a subcontractor inside a regional public healthcare provider.

#4 Therapyside

Madrid, Spain UK site: GBP 49 for a single 50-minute individual session, GBP 40 each on a 4-session plan; couples GBP 59, or GBP 50 on the plan (60 minutes). The Spanish site shows euro prices Demo on request

Best for: Spanish, Italian and English speakers who want one psychologist at a weekly rhythm

  • Operating company. Altania del Mar, S.L.
  • Jurisdiction. EU (Spain)
  • Where the data sits. Hosting location not found in the pages read
  • Source code. Closed source
  • Replaces. BetterHelp

Therapyside sells psychologist sessions either singly or as a four-session plan at a lower rate. On the UK site a 50-minute individual session costs GBP 49, or GBP 40 on the plan, and couples sessions cost GBP 59 or GBP 50 for 60 minutes. The Spanish pages show euro prices, so the number depends on the country site you open.

The legal entity is Altania del Mar, S.L., registered in the Madrid Commercial Register with an office in the Torre Emperador. The terms describe a trial week with a first session free of charge, which the psychologist may offer, and say that carrying on afterwards counts as accepting the plan, so cancel explicitly if you do not want it. The site runs in Spanish, English, Italian and Portuguese, and therapychat.com redirects to it.

What Therapyside does well

  • Per-session and plan prices on the page
  • Trial week with a free first session
  • Couples sessions on the price list
  • Madrid Commercial Register entry
  • Site in four languages

Where Therapyside falls short

  • The psychologist decides on the free session
  • Carrying on after the trial week counts as consent
  • Price differs between country sites
  • Hosting location not found

Standout feature. Therapyside is the one that states in its terms that carrying on after the trial week counts as accepting the plan.

#5 Selfapy

Berlin, Germany No charge to patients with a prescription in Germany (statutory insurers); the chronic pain and panic programmes are tagged private; the private price is on the site Demo on request

Best for: People with a diagnosis in Germany who want a digital programme paid by their insurer

  • Operating company. Selfapy GmbH
  • Jurisdiction. EU (Germany)
  • Where the data sits. Not stated; ISO 27001 certification claimed
  • Source code. Closed source
  • Replaces. BetterHelp

Selfapy offers online courses and not open-ended sessions. Its homepage names depression, generalised anxiety disorder, binge eating, bulimia, chronic pain and panic disorder as programme topics, and says a team of psychologists monitors progress. With a prescription or proof of diagnosis, the site says German statutory insurers cover the cost in full, and a patient can request the prescription online, at a practice, or redeem an unlock code.

Selfapy GmbH is registered in Berlin (Amtsgericht Charlottenburg, HRB 173688). The site describes the programmes as a CE-marked class I medical device and says the company is ISO 27001 certified, both vendor claims. Chronic pain and panic are tagged private pay, with no price in the text we read. The service is in German and tied to the German insurance model.

What Selfapy does well

  • Insurer pays with a prescription
  • Six named programmes with set structure
  • ISO 27001 claimed by the vendor
  • Psychologist team follows progress
  • Self-tests available on the site

Where Selfapy falls short

  • Offered in German

  • Depends on German insurance rules

Standout feature. Selfapy is the entry where a statutory insurer can pay for the entire programme once a prescription is redeemed.

#6 OpenUp

Amsterdam, Netherlands No list price; a demo booking is the way to get a quote Demo on request

Best for: Employers who want staff to book sessions directly, without a manager signing off

  • Operating company. OpenUp B.V.
  • Jurisdiction. EU (Netherlands)
  • Where the data sits. Hosting location not found in the pages read
  • Source code. Closed source
  • Replaces. BetterHelp for Business

OpenUp is sold to companies, and employees then book sessions themselves. The site promises a psychologist in the employee's own language within 48 hours and no manager approval. The offer lists unlimited sessions per employee with psychologists and financial or lifestyle coaches, group sessions, courses, an AI well-being coach and a 24/7 support line in the base package.

OpenUp B.V. is an Amsterdam company, and its privacy statement gives Chamber of Commerce number 77340159. Sessions are available in 45 languages, and the duty-of-care extras include a confidential advisor role (described as statutory), an ePMO and an on-site health check run by doctors. The 9.7 out of 10 session rating and the absenteeism claims on the site are vendor figures, and no price is published.

What OpenUp does well

  • Booking needs no manager approval
  • Sessions in 45 languages
  • Dutch KvK number in the privacy statement
  • 24/7 line is part of the base package
  • Group sessions and self-guided learning included

Where OpenUp falls short

  • Ratings and outcome claims come from the vendor
  • Hosting country not given

Standout feature. OpenUp is the only entry that bundles a statutory confidential advisor role and an on-site doctor health check with the counselling.

#7 nilo

Berlin, Germany Three packages (Calm, Balance, Thrive), quoted by company size after a demo request Demo on request

Best for: German-speaking and international employers that want counselling with leadership programmes

  • Operating company. Likenilo GmbH
  • Jurisdiction. EU (Germany)
  • Where the data sits. Hosting location not found in the pages read
  • Source code. Closed source
  • Replaces. BetterHelp for Business

nilo sells wellbeing support to employers in three packages called Calm, Balance and Thrive. The largest adds classic employee assistance elements such as support for family members and custom workshops. Alongside 1:1 sessions, nilo sells leadership and management programmes, and an HR dashboard summarises wellbeing trends for the company rather than individual sessions.

The operator is Likenilo GmbH, with an office on Saarbrücker Straße in Berlin named in the imprint. The homepage lists 500+ psychologists, sessions in 50+ languages and a 24/7 crisis line, and the pricing page says cost depends on company size and is quoted after a demo request. The 98 percent figure for improved work capability comes from nilo's own 2026 study. The pages do not explain its relation to the earlier Likeminded brand.

What nilo does well

  • Leadership programmes sit in the same contract
  • Dashboard reports trends, not individual sessions
  • Sessions in 50+ languages, per the homepage
  • Crisis line offered around the clock
  • German GmbH with a full imprint

Where nilo falls short

  • Employers are the only buyers
  • Price given only after a demo
  • Impact numbers come from its own study
  • Hosting country not given

Standout feature. nilo is the entry that sells leadership and management programmes inside the same package as the counselling.

#8 Spill

London, United Kingdom GBP 75 per month for Core EAP, GBP 145 per month for Core EAP + Treatment, as shown by the pricing page for the size selected Demo on request

Best for: Small teams that want counselling inside Slack or Teams on a rolling monthly contract

  • Operating company. Spill App Ltd
  • Jurisdiction. United Kingdom (adequacy decision, outside the EEA)
  • Where the data sits. Hosting location not found in the pages read
  • Source code. Closed source
  • Replaces. BetterHelp for Business

Spill gives employees access to a counsellor from Slack, Teams or email. The pricing page lists two plans: Core EAP at GBP 75 per month (message-based counselling, drop-in sessions, self-help content) and Core EAP + Treatment at GBP 145 per month, which adds unlimited structured counselling sessions, both for the company size selected in the selector.

The terms name Spill App Ltd, with an address in Cheapside, London, as owner and operator, so the jurisdiction is the UK (adequacy decision, outside the EEA). Cancellation needs 30 days' notice before the next payment, with no long-term contract or cancellation fee. The pricing FAQ says counsellors are registered with local bodies such as the BACP and have at least three years of academic therapy training.

What Spill does well

  • Works from Slack, Teams or email
  • Monthly prices on the pricing page
  • Rolling contract, 30 days' notice
  • Counsellors registered with national bodies
  • Drop-in sessions included in Core EAP

Where Spill falls short

  • Purchased by employers only
  • The GBP 75 figure belongs to one company-size tier
  • Message-based format suits some people less
  • Operator is in the UK, not the EU

Standout feature. Spill is the only employer tool here with published monthly prices and a 30-day rolling contract.

#9 Oliva

London, United Kingdom Quote on request Demo on request

Best for: HR and L&D teams that want therapy and coaching under one agreement

  • Operating company. Oliva Health Limited
  • Jurisdiction. United Kingdom (adequacy decision, outside the EEA)
  • Where the data sits. Hosting location not found in the pages read
  • Source code. Closed source
  • Replaces. BetterHelp for Business

Oliva presents mental health support as part of people development. The homepage pairs therapy with coaching for employees, training for managers and concrete actions for HR, with individual and group formats, and says there are no minimum commitments. Its case studies cover offboarding teams, retail staff and leadership development.

The platform terms, version dated 3 June 2026, name Oliva Health Limited, registered in England and Wales under company number 13045706. That makes the jurisdiction the UK (adequacy decision, outside the EEA). No price list is published, the case-study outcomes are supplied by the vendor, and the brand appears as both Oliva and Oli, which is worth a line in a procurement check.

What Oliva does well

  • Therapy, coaching and manager support together
  • No minimum commitment stated
  • Company number printed in the terms
  • Group formats alongside individual ones
  • Case studies from technology employers

Where Oliva falls short

  • Quote only
  • Oliva and Oli both used as names
  • Sold to employers only
  • Case studies come from the vendor

Standout feature. Oliva is the one that gives managers a separate coaching track meant to take load off HR.

#10 Unmind

London, United Kingdom Quote on request Demo on request

Best for: Large employers wanting therapy, training and incident cover from a single supplier

  • Operating company. Unmind Ltd
  • Jurisdiction. United Kingdom (adequacy decision, outside the EEA)
  • Where the data sits. Hosting location not found in the pages read
  • Source code. Closed source
  • Replaces. BetterHelp for Business

Unmind bundles therapy and coaching, short courses, an AI assistant named Nova, manager training and a helpline that runs 24 hours a day. Rapid-response critical incident cover and work/life support, such as money worries and family care, sit alongside. Anonymised insights and assessments show HR where support is needed, and the homepage calls the whole a workplace mental health ecosystem.

The terms name Unmind Ltd, registered in England and Wales under company number 10310694, with a head office at 140 Borough High St, London, so the jurisdiction is the UK (adequacy decision, outside the EEA). The price is on request through an enterprise sales process, and the savings calculator on the homepage is shown in dollars. A small team may find it pays for modules it never uses.

What Unmind does well

  • Broad module range
  • Helpline open at all hours
  • Manager training in the offer
  • Company number printed in the terms
  • Insights are anonymised

Where Unmind falls short

  • No price published
  • Enterprise sales process
  • Homepage calculator shows dollars
  • Sold to employers only

Standout feature. Unmind is the only entry that lists rapid-response critical incident cover as part of its standard offer.

#11 ifeel

Madrid, Spain Quote on request Demo on request

Best for: Multinational employers and insurers that need care in local languages across many countries

  • Operating company. Digital Mind Solutions, S.L.U.
  • Jurisdiction. EU (Spain)
  • Where the data sits. Not stated; a Trust Center is referenced
  • Source code. Closed source
  • Replaces. BetterHelp for Business

ifeel presents itself as an enterprise product, with industry pages for finance, pharma, automotive and logistics and a start-your-solution call to action in place of a consumer sign-up. The homepage describes clinician-led, AI-enhanced triage in which therapies are matched to risk level and information flows both ways between clinician and platform.

The platform terms, updated 20 August 2026, name Digital Mind Solutions, S.L.U. (NIF B-87593851, Mercantile Register of Madrid) as operator. The site claims operations in 90+ countries, refers readers to a Trust Center and shows that access also runs through insurers and partners. Headline figures such as ROI and NPS are the vendor's own, no price is public and the homepage gives little detail on session formats.

What ifeel does well

  • Clinicians triage before care is assigned
  • Claims reach in 90+ countries
  • Entity and register data printed in the terms
  • Access also runs through insurers
  • Programmes by industry

Where ifeel falls short

  • Sold to organisations only
  • No price published
  • ROI numbers reported by the vendor
  • Session formats barely described

Standout feature. ifeel is the one that sorts people by clinical risk level before deciding which kind of care they get.

#12 HelloBetter

Hamburg, Germany Programmes cost the patient nothing on prescription in Germany; the Ello AI companion is free for 7 days, then EUR 19.99 per month Demo on request

Best for: Prescription holders in Germany, and anyone after a low-cost AI companion

  • Operating company. GET.ON Institut für Online Gesundheitstrainings GmbH
  • Jurisdiction. EU (Germany)
  • Where the data sits. Hosting location not found in the pages read
  • Source code. Closed source
  • Replaces. BetterHelp

HelloBetter offers online therapy programmes for 12 diagnoses and says on its homepage that six of them are approved as DiGA, the German apps on prescription that BfArM reviews. The programmes are in German, rest on cognitive behavioural therapy, and are free to the patient on prescription in Germany. For people without a prescription there is Ello, an AI companion in English, German, French, Spanish and Italian, free for seven days and then EUR 19.99 per month.

The brand belongs to GET.ON Institut für Online Gesundheitstrainings GmbH in Hamburg. The vendor states that it has 30 randomised controlled studies and 20,000 prescribing doctors and therapists, both vendor figures. Its German site also carries a notice dated 6 October 2026 about a security incident under Article 34 GDPR, with users' data up to 6 September presumed affected, and readers should open it before registering.

What HelloBetter does well

  • Six programmes carry DiGA approval
  • No cost to the patient on prescription
  • Ello works in five languages
  • A research programme is described
  • Ello has a stated monthly price

Where HelloBetter falls short

  • Programmes are German only
  • Ello is software, not a therapist
  • A security incident notice dated October 2026
  • No live sessions with therapists

Standout feature. HelloBetter is the only entry on this list that pairs DiGA-approved programmes with an AI companion on a published monthly price.

How do I choose between paying per session, a plan, a directory or a prescribed programme?

Start from how you want to pay and who picks the professional. Instahelp sells single sessions and leaves the booking to you. Therapyside sells a single session or a four-session plan at a lower rate, with the psychologist you are matched to. It's Complicated lets you browse practitioner profiles and pay whoever you choose. Selfapy and HelloBetter are programmes that a doctor prescribes in Germany.

The format is the second filter. A programme such as Selfapy's depression course is a set structure that a psychologist team monitors, and it is not weekly talk therapy. HelloBetter's Ello is an AI companion, which the vendor positions for everyday worries and which is not a therapist. If what you want is a conversation with a person, those two are the wrong shape, and Instahelp, Therapyside, It's Complicated or Mindler are the right ones.

None of this replaces advice from a doctor. If you are unsure which kind of support fits your situation, a general practitioner or a licensed clinician in your own country is the right first call.

What does online therapy cost in Europe compared with a weekly subscription?

The prices on these providers' pages use different units, so a direct comparison needs a common rhythm. Instahelp charges EUR 89 for 50 minutes, which is EUR 89 a week if you book weekly. Therapyside's UK site lists GBP 40 per 50-minute session on a four-session plan. Mindler charges a patient fee of SEK 100 inside the publicly funded Swedish route, with SEK 410 for a late cancellation.

Two entries are free to the patient under conditions. Selfapy says German statutory insurers pay in full with a prescription or proof of diagnosis, and HelloBetter makes its programmes free on prescription in Germany. Its Ello companion is the one low-cost option for everyone else, at EUR 19.99 per month after seven free days.

For employers, only Spill publishes figures: GBP 75 per month for Core EAP and GBP 145 per month with treatment, for the company size selected on its pricing page. OpenUp, nilo, Oliva, Unmind and ifeel quote on request, and It's Complicated starts company packages at EUR 85 per session with a minimum of 25.

Where is my data held, and who answers to a regulator?

Every provider in this list is a registered company in Austria, Germany, Spain, Sweden, the Netherlands or the UK, and each states its legal entity on an imprint or in its terms. That gives a client a named operator and a supervisory authority in a European jurisdiction. The three UK entries (Spill, Oliva, Unmind) sit outside the EEA under the UK adequacy decision.

Hosting is a separate question and the pages we read mostly leave it open. It's Complicated states EU data storage in its own words. Selfapy claims ISO 27001 certification. The others do not name a hosting country on the pages checked, so a procurement team should ask for it in writing.

HelloBetter deserves a specific note. Its German site carries a notice dated 6 October 2026 under Article 34 GDPR about a vulnerability in third-party software that gave access to its business-intelligence system and database, with user data up to 6 September presumed affected. Read that notice before registering.

How do I move away from a US service such as BetterHelp?

Cancel in good time and check the renewal date first, because a membership that renews automatically takes the next cycle if you wait. Then decide what you are replacing. BetterHelp's own FAQ describes a therapist plus messaging, chat, phone and video, so the closest European shape is a psychologist on Instahelp, Therapyside or Mindler.

Ask your current therapist for a short written summary before you stop, and give the new one only what you want to share. A new provider does not receive your history automatically, and none of the pages we read describe an import from BetterHelp.

Companies replacing BetterHelp for Business have six candidates, listed under the employer entries below. Compare them on how employees book, which languages they cover and whether a hosting country is named in the contract.

When should I not switch to an online platform at all?

In an acute crisis, call your local emergency number or see a doctor. Instahelp says on its own site that it is unsuitable for acute psychological or medical crises, and the same limit appears in BetterHelp's FAQ. A platform is not an emergency service.

Also pause before switching if you are mid-treatment with a clinician who prescribes or monitors medication, if the service you want depends on a national scheme you are not part of (Mindler's SEK 100 fee is for the Swedish public route, Selfapy and HelloBetter programmes need a German prescription), or if your employer already funds a provider through an EAP.

This directory describes what the vendors say about themselves and is not medical advice. A qualified professional decides what treatment suits a person.

Which of these can an employer buy for a team?

Six entries are built for companies: OpenUp (Amsterdam), nilo (Berlin), Spill (London), Oliva (London), Unmind (London) and ifeel (Madrid). It's Complicated also sells company packages. OpenUp lists 1:1 sessions in 45 languages and a confidential advisor role. nilo adds leadership programmes and an HR dashboard. Spill works inside Slack, Teams or email on a rolling 30-day contract.

Oliva and Unmind are the broader bundles, with coaching and manager support at Oliva, and courses, an AI assistant called Nova, a 24/7 helpline and critical incident cover at Unmind. ifeel is organised around clinician-led triage and says it operates in 90+ countries, which suits a multinational.

All outcome figures on these pages (ratings, ROI, percentage improvements) are vendor claims, so ask for the method behind them during the demo.

How we selected and ranked these 12 tools

Every tool on this page is in the European Purpose directory, which means the operating company is established in Europe and we have verified that from the company register or the vendor's own legal notice rather than from a marketing page. Tools headquartered outside Europe are not eligible, however good they are.

  1. Feature verification (weight: 40%). We check each capability against the vendor's own documentation and product pages, and record what the tool does rather than what the category is assumed to include.
  2. Ease of adoption (weight: 30%). Integrations, published API access, trial availability and how much configuration stands between signing and a usable result.
  3. Value and transparency (weight: 30%). Published pricing counts in a vendor's favour; quote-only pricing is recorded as quote-only rather than estimated. We weigh what a buyer gets for the entry price, not the headline feature count.
  4. Editorial review. Every page is researched and drafted with AI assistance, and the compliance and pricing claims are checked against the vendor's documentation before it is published under the founder's editorial responsibility. The three weights above decide the order; a position is a ranking against the other European tools in this category, not an absolute score.

Vendor-reported outcomes — ROI figures, margin uplift, time saved — are labelled as vendor claims wherever they appear on this page. We have not audited them, and neither has anyone else who quotes them. Read our full editorial process for how pages are re-verified.

Frequently asked questions

No single platform fits every need, so it depends on the criterion. Instahelp is the clearest choice for individual sessions paid one at a time, It's Complicated for choosing your own therapist, Mindler for the Swedish public route, Selfapy and HelloBetter for German prescription programmes, and OpenUp, nilo, Spill, Oliva, Unmind or ifeel for employers.

Sometimes, and only in specific routes. Selfapy says German statutory insurers cover its programmes in full with a prescription or proof of diagnosis, HelloBetter makes six DiGA-approved programmes free on prescription, and Mindler's SEK 100 fee belongs to the Swedish publicly funded route. The pages for Instahelp, It's Complicated and Therapyside do not mention insurer refunds.

It's Complicated lists counselling in 60+ languages, nilo claims sessions in 50+ languages, OpenUp offers 1:1 sessions in 45 languages, and Mindler says its psychologists speak 20+ languages in total. Instahelp's site is available in four languages, and Therapyside's in Spanish, English, Italian and Portuguese. Always confirm the language of the individual professional before booking.

No. Use your local emergency number or see a doctor. Instahelp states that it is unsuitable for acute psychological or medical crises, and none of the other platforms presents itself as an emergency service. Spill, nilo, OpenUp, Unmind and ifeel mention 24/7 support lines for employees, which are not a substitute for emergency services.

Therapyside's terms describe a trial week with a free first session, which the psychologist may offer. HelloBetter's Ello companion is free for seven days. Selfapy and HelloBetter programmes cost the patient nothing with a German prescription. The others offer a demo on request (employer products) or charge from the first session.
