European Legal Practice Management Software
Legal practice management software holds the matter file, deadlines, documents, time records and client billing of a law firm, which makes it one of the most confidential systems a firm operates. These European alternatives to Clio are run by vendors under German, Dutch, French, Irish, Belgian or UK law, and most of them are built around local procedure such as the beA mailbox or the RPVA.
How we rank these tools — 4-step process
-
1
European ownership, verified
The company is headquartered and incorporated in the EU, EEA or Switzerland, and processes customer data in Europe. A US parent company disqualifies a tool from this page regardless of where its servers are.
-
2
Category fit and hands-on review
What the tool actually does, who it suits, and where it falls short — checked against the vendor’s own documentation, changelog and pricing page rather than its marketing copy.
-
3
Compliance and pricing check
GDPR posture, hosting location and the prices quoted on this page are verified against the vendor’s public pricing before publication, and re-checked when we revisit the category.
-
4
Position on this page
Placement on this page can be paid, and that can affect the order tools appear in. It never buys a listing: a tool that fails the checks above is not here at any price, and payment does not change the shortcomings we write about. A vendor can ask us to correct a factual error — not to remove a criticism.
Vendors can pay for visibility on this page. It never changes what an entry says about a product, including the criticism, and we earn nothing when you click through to a vendor. Paid placement can affect the order in which tools appear; it never affects whether a tool is listed. Editorial policy

Frequently Asked Questions
It depends on the jurisdiction. For German firms, Advolux and RA-MICRO are the most complete options, and Actaport or Legalvisio suit firms that want a cloud product with published prices. For Dutch firms Legalsense covers timekeeping, matters and billing, for French firms Secib connects to the RPVA, and for UK solicitor firms Osprey Approach is built around legal accounting.
RA-MICRO offers RA-MICRO 1 free for a single workplace with up to 100 files per year, and Ulegalize has a free Community plan for shared files, contacts and documents. Both are limited by design, so check the caps before moving a live caseload onto them. Advolux and RA-MICRO Essentials offer free trials of 60 and 30 days.
Advolux names a German data centre for its cloud, Actaport lists hosting in Germany, Legalvisio states its systems run in Germany, and the RA-MICRO cloud concept uses a German contract data centre. Osprey Approach states that personal data is stored in the UK, and Amberlo states AWS Frankfurt. Legalsense and NoRA do not state a hosting location on the pages reviewed, so ask them directly.
Mostly not without limits. Advolux, RA-MICRO, Actaport, Advoware, Legalvisio and NoRA are built around German procedure, Secib around the French one and Osprey around UK solicitor practice. Legalsense states it is active in seven or more countries and Amberlo is offered in English, Polish, Spanish and German, so those two are the better fit for cross-border firms.
The Complete Guide to European Legal Practice Management Software
What European practice management software covers
A practice management system holds the matter file, deadlines, documents, time records, invoices and often the client account, so it is the most sensitive system a law firm runs. The European tools below differ from Clio in one structural way: they are built around national procedure.
German products connect to the beA lawyers' mailbox and calculate fees under the RVG, the French Secib connects to the RPVA, and the UK Osprey Approach is built for solicitor firms. In return you accept that most of them serve one jurisdiction rather than every market.
Hosting and contracting entity
Check three things before signing: who the contracting entity is, where the data is stored, and which sub-processors sit underneath. Advolux, Actaport, Legalvisio and the RA-MICRO cloud state hosting in Germany, Osprey states UK data storage, and Amberlo states AWS in Frankfurt, which is a European region run by a non-European provider. Ask every vendor for the data processing agreement and the sub-processor list, because the website does not replace them.
How the pricing models differ
Pricing varies more than features. Advolux sells concurrent-user licences with a published annual price, Actaport and Amberlo publish per-user monthly prices, Legalvisio publishes a per-licence price per month, Legalsense charges per fee earner with no module surcharges, and RA-MICRO offers a free single-user tier for small caseloads.
Osprey states a 36-month standard term with a 5% increase on each anniversary and a minimum of three licences. Compare the total for your headcount over the whole contract term, not the entry price.
