European Grocery Delivery Services Tools

A grocery delivery service lets you order a supermarket basket online and have it brought to your door or to a pick-up point. The European services below are run by companies in the Netherlands, Germany, Norway, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Sweden, the UK, France and Romania, so your contract, your payment and your personal data sit with a European entity and under local consumer law.

How we rank these tools — 4-step process
  1. 1
    European ownership, verified

The company is headquartered and incorporated in the EU, EEA, the UK, Switzerland or Israel, and processes customer data in Europe or Israel. A US parent company disqualifies a tool from this page regardless of where its servers are.

  2. 2
    Category fit and hands-on review

What the tool actually does, who it suits, and where it falls short — checked against the vendor’s own documentation, changelog and pricing page rather than its marketing copy.

  3. 3
    Compliance and pricing check

GDPR posture, hosting location and the prices quoted on this page are verified against the vendor’s public pricing before publication, and re-checked when we revisit the category.

  4. 4
    Position on this page

Placement on this page can be paid, and that can affect the order tools appear in. It never buys a listing: a tool that fails the checks above is not here at any price, and payment does not change the shortcomings we write about. A vendor can ask us to correct a factual error — not to remove a criticism.

Vendors can pay for visibility on this page. It never changes what an entry says about a product, including the criticism, and we earn nothing when you click through to a vendor. Vendors can pay for more visibility, higher up on the review pages; it never affects whether a tool is listed. Editorial policy

Best for: Households in the Netherlands, Germany or France that shop weekly online and want one stated delivery rule

  • Jurisdiction. EU (Netherlands)

The register entries are published: KvK number 62812696 and VAT number NL854967333B01. Which grocery delivery service can I order from at my address?

Your postcode decides before any other criterion does, because no European service covers the whole continent. Picnic operates in the Netherlands, Germany and France, and Crisp in the Netherlands and Belgium. Rohlik Group names the Czech Republic, Hungary, Austria, Germany and Romania. Oda covers Norway, Mathem Sweden, Ocado the United Kingdom, Auchan France and Bringo Romanian cities.

Several services show their delivery area only after you type an address. Knuspr works that way, and so does Rohlik. Run that check first on two or three candidates, then compare slots, fees and range. A service that does not reach your street is not an option however good its banner looks.

What does European grocery delivery cost, and when is it free?

Four services print a free-delivery rule on their home pages: Picnic, Knuspr, Rohlik and Kifli. Oda and Mathem offer three free months to new customers who order at least every second week. Bringo states a fixed fee of 19.99 lei. Albert Heijn, Jumbo, Auchan, Ocado and Crisp show no delivery fee on the pages we read.

Free delivery rarely means free groceries. Knuspr and Rohlik add club memberships and own-brand discounts of 10%, and Jumbo sells a Rittenkaart with up to €8 extra discount on delivery. Treat the banner as the start of the cost question, then check basket minimums and club fees at checkout for your own address.

Should I pick a delivery-first company or my local supermarket chain?

Delivery-first companies such as Picnic, Knuspr, Rohlik, Kifli, Oda, Mathem and Crisp pack orders in their own warehouses. You get one stock, own brands and their delivery slots. Albert Heijn, Jumbo and Auchan sell the shelf range you know from the store, and Ocado sits between the two with a large range and its own distribution centres.

A chain suits people loyal to its brands and offers, such as the Bonus offers at Albert Heijn. A delivery-first company suits people who want a full basket with a stated delivery rule. If your goal is only pick-up, Jumbo lists Pick Up Points and Auchan lists drive and click and collect.

Is a European grocery delivery service better for data protection than a US app?

A European operator is bound by the GDPR directly, and its customers can complain to a national supervisory authority in their own language. That is the real difference. It is not a promise about hosting: none of the services on this page stated a data location on the pages we read.

Advertising practice differs by service. Crisp names six partners that use a profile for targeted advertising in its cookie banner, and Albert Heijn lists advertising partners in its privacy policy. Jumbo mentions aggregated insights shared with group companies. Read the cookie settings on your first visit, whichever service you choose.

How do I switch from Instacart to a European grocery delivery service?

Instacart covers the United States and Canada, so a move to Europe means starting fresh. Create an account with the service that reaches your address, rebuild your regular list from its most-bought or favourite lists, and check the first order for substitutions. None of the services here lists an import of Instacart order history.

The one model change to expect is the store. Instacart sends a shopper into stores of your choice, while Picnic, Knuspr and Rohlik pick from their own stock. Bringo is the exception, since couriers there shop in Carrefour, dm and Sensiblu stores and customers can edit the order while the courier is shopping.

When is it better not to order groceries online?

Small, urgent errands are the weak spot. Knuspr advertises delivery from three hours and Rohlik and Kifli from 90 minutes, so a missing ingredient at six in the evening is faster at the corner shop. Delivery also pays off less if you live in a city with several supermarkets within a short walk.

Online ordering earns its place for heavy weekly shops, bottles and packs, and households without a car. Returnable bottles are handled at the door by Kifli, and Oda describes bottle returns with Infinitum AS in its terms. Compare that convenience against the delivery fee and basket minimum at your address.

How we selected and ranked these 12 tools

Every tool on this page is in the European Purpose directory, which means the operating company is established in Europe and we have verified that from the company register or the vendor's own legal notice rather than from a marketing page. Tools headquartered outside Europe are not eligible, however good they are.

  1. Feature verification (weight: 40%). We check each capability against the vendor's own documentation and product pages, and record what the tool does rather than what the category is assumed to include.
  2. Ease of adoption (weight: 30%). Integrations, published API access, trial availability and how much configuration stands between signing and a usable result.
  3. Value and transparency (weight: 30%). Published pricing counts in a vendor's favour; quote-only pricing is recorded as quote-only rather than estimated. We weigh what a buyer gets for the entry price, not the headline feature count.
  4. Editorial review. Every page is researched and drafted with AI assistance, and the compliance and pricing claims are checked against the vendor's documentation before it is published under the founder's editorial responsibility. The three weights above decide the order; a position is a ranking against the other European tools in this category, not an absolute score.

Vendor-reported outcomes — ROI figures, margin uplift, time saved — are labelled as vendor claims wherever they appear on this page. We have not audited them, and neither has anyone else who quotes them. Read our full editorial process for how pages are re-verified.
