European Alternatives to TripIt

Looking for a European alternative to TripIt? TripIt's privacy statement names Concur Technologies, Inc., 601 108th Avenue NE, Bellevue, Washington, as controller through its TripIt business unit, and describes SAP Concur as a wholly owned subsidiary of SAP. The statement also says TripIt can read connected email accounts to pull in travel details, and that itineraries can be visible to your employer if you link a company SAP Concur account.

The European tools below cover the same ground in different ways: KDE Itinerary collects reservations on your device, Tripomatic and Stippl plan days on a map, and Polarsteps records the trip, with free tiers at several of them.

How we rank these tools — 4-step process
  1. 1
    European ownership, verified

The company is headquartered and incorporated in the EU, EEA, the UK, Switzerland or Israel, and processes customer data in Europe or Israel. A US parent company disqualifies a tool from this page regardless of where its servers are.

  2. 2
    Category fit and hands-on review

What the tool actually does, who it suits, and where it falls short — checked against the vendor’s own documentation, changelog and pricing page rather than its marketing copy.

  3. 3
    Compliance and pricing check

GDPR posture, hosting location and the prices quoted on this page are verified against the vendor’s public pricing before publication, and re-checked when we revisit the category.

  4. 4
    Position on this page

Placement on this page can be paid, and that can affect which tools appear here and the order they appear in. It never buys a good review: a tool that fails the checks above is not here at any price, and payment does not change the shortcomings we write about. A vendor can ask us to correct a factual error — not to remove a criticism.

Vendors can pay for visibility on this page. It never changes what an entry says about a product, including the criticism, and we earn nothing when you click through to a vendor. Vendors can pay for more visibility, higher up on the review pages; it never affects which tools are listed. Editorial policy

Key takeaways

  • TripIt's privacy statement names Concur Technologies, Inc. of Bellevue, Washington as controller, with SAP Concur described as a wholly owned subsidiary of SAP.
  • TripIt can read connected email accounts to pull in travel details, and KDE Itinerary does the equivalent extraction locally on your own device.
  • A linked company SAP Concur account can make a TripIt itinerary visible to the employer, which none of the European planners on this page has.
  • Tripomatic (Czech Republic), Polarsteps and Stippl (Netherlands), Palima, TravelMap, Mapstr, ViaMichelin and Cocohop (France), Layla (Germany) and komoot (Germany) all name a European company behind the app.
  • Most of the European planners on this page have a free tier, while KDE Itinerary is free software under LGPL-2.0-or-later.

Why people leave TripIt

TripIt is an itinerary organiser that turns booking confirmations into one timeline per trip. You hand it flights, hotels and rental cars, and it gives you a single schedule to open at the airport. That job is narrow and well defined, which is why TripIt has stayed recognisable while larger travel apps changed shape around it.

The company behind it is American. TripIt's privacy statement names Concur Technologies, Inc., 601 108th Avenue NE, Bellevue, Washington, as the controller through its TripIt business unit, and describes SAP Concur as a wholly owned subsidiary of SAP. For a European traveller that means a trip archive contracted with a US entity, not with a company established in the EU.

People start looking elsewhere for two reasons that have little to do with features. The first is the email access that the organiser needs to work. The second is the link to a corporate expense system, where a personal holiday can end up next to work trips. Others simply want to plan a trip, which is a different task from filing one.

  • The organiser reads the mailbox it works from According to TripIt's privacy statement, the service can read connected email accounts to pull travel details into your itinerary. That is what makes it convenient, and it is also why the choice matters: an inbox holds far more than flight confirmations. The European tools on this page avoid the question in different ways. KDE Itinerary extracts bookings on your own device, and the other planners describe no mailbox access on the pages we read.
  • A company account can expose personal trips The same privacy statement says itineraries can be visible to your employer if you link a company SAP Concur account. A travel organiser that sits inside an expense ecosystem is useful for business trips and awkward for private ones, such as a weekend that follows a conference. Keeping private and work travel in separate tools is simpler with a planner that has no corporate link at all.
  • The US controller sits above a European trip Concur Technologies, Inc. in Bellevue is the controller named for TripIt, and SAP is the parent. A European traveller who stores passport numbers, hotel names and flight times there is dealing with a US company that belongs to a larger group. Against that, each European planner here names a company in the Netherlands, Czech Republic, Germany or France, with a register entry you can look up.
  • Planning and filing are different jobs TripIt starts from bookings you have already made. Many travellers now start earlier, from saved videos, a map of restaurants or a draft day plan, and a tool built around confirmations gives them little help there. Tripomatic, Stippl, Palima and Mapstr begin from places and ideas, so the itinerary exists before the first reservation does.

What you have to replace, not just match

TripIt does one thing that no single European tool matches exactly: it turns forwarded confirmations into a timeline without you typing anything. What you replace depends on which half of that you use. If you mainly want the timeline, KDE Itinerary is the closest equivalent, and it runs locally on Android or Plasma Mobile. If you mainly want a trip to look at on a map, the planners below do that better.

Shared trips are the second thing to replace. Anyone who invited a partner or a group into a TripIt trip needs a new shared space, and Palima, Stippl, Tripomatic and Mapstr each have one, with different rules about who can edit. Check this before you export, because a shared plan is easier to rebuild when everyone is still at the table.

Lastly, there is the part that no planner here copies: the link to a corporate expense account. A business traveller whose employer account is linked will usually keep TripIt for work trips and move only the private ones. Cocohop is the only tool on this page aimed at the trade, and it serves agencies that quote trips, not employees who file them.

How each alternative compares to TripIt

#1

Tripomatic

Plans days and routes on a map where TripIt files finished bookings

Brno, Czech RepublicFree plan with no time limit (up to 5 days with planned activities per calendar month across all trips, up to 25 places and hotels per trip, shows ads). Premium removes the limits and ads; the Premium price is not shown on the pages we read.#1 in Travel Itinerary Planners

Best for: Travellers who build a trip from sights and hotels and want a free starting point

Against TripIt, Tripomatic reverses the order of work. TripIt waits for a confirmation and builds the timeline from it. Tripomatic starts with the places, lets you drag them into days, and estimates the time per stop. Routes can be walking, transit, car, bike or hiking, which a booking archive has no reason to offer.

The AI assistant narrows the gap on the booking side. It reads tickets or confirmations you attach and adds flights, hotels and booking numbers to the plan. It does not read a forwarded email the way TripIt does, so every confirmation is one more file to attach. The company is Tripomatic s.r.o. in Brno, registered at the Regional Court in Brno.

What Tripomatic does better than TripIt

  • Day-by-day scheduling with time estimates per stop
  • A free plan with no time limit
  • Export to PDF, GPX and KML
  • Per-day travel alerts for weather, strikes and advisories

Where Tripomatic is a step down from TripIt

  • No forwarded-email parsing
  • Offline maps and live flight status need Premium, whose price we could not find

Standout against TripIt. Tripomatic is the only tool here that plans routes by walking, transit, car, bike and hiking trail inside one day plan.

Polarsteps

Records the journey as it happens, where TripIt only organises it beforehand

Amsterdam, NetherlandsApp is free to download; the terms mention a Plus subscription, but no price is shown on the pages we read.#2 in Travel Itinerary Planners

Best for: Travellers who want family and friends to follow the route and keep a book afterwards

Polarsteps answers a question TripIt never asks: what happened on the trip. The app records your route automatically while you travel, and you add photos, videos and stories to the steps. Family and friends follow along. TripIt ends where the trip begins, and Polarsteps carries on from that point.

The planner side is lighter. You add stays and activities and see them plotted, but the pages we read describe no booking-email import, flight alerts or calendar sync. The terms are Dutch, the company is Polarsteps B.V. in Amsterdam, and trips are visible only to followers by default. Plus and Travel Book prices were not shown.

What Polarsteps does better than TripIt

  • Automatic route tracking during the trip
  • Trip Reel video and printed Travel Book afterwards
  • Privacy default that limits trips to followers
  • Dutch contract and an Amsterdam address

Where Polarsteps is a step down from TripIt

  • No stated import of booking confirmations
  • Data location is not stated
  • Less useful on the logistics of a travel day

Standout against TripIt. Polarsteps is the only planner here that turns the finished journey into a hardback book from the same app.

Stippl

Drafts the whole itinerary with a budget before any booking exists

Amsterdam, NetherlandsFree to join. A Stippl Pro tier exists; its price is not shown on the pages we read.#3 in Travel Itinerary Planners

Best for: Groups who want a first draft of the trip, a budget and a packing list

Stippl builds the itinerary from a description of the trip, which is the opposite of TripIt's habit of waiting for confirmations. The result is a day-by-day draft with a budget, stays and a packing list. Compared with TripIt, Stippl is a drafting tool first and a record of reservations second.

Accommodation booking runs through the partner Nuitee Travel Limited under separate terms, and the AI providers behind the drafts are not named. Stippl B.V. is registered with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce under KvK 82938865 and acts as data controller. Seven interface languages are listed, and the Pro price was not on the pages we read.

What Stippl does better than TripIt

  • An AI-built draft with a budget in one step
  • Packing list and budget planner inside the app
  • Group planning and offline use advertised
  • Interface in seven languages

Where Stippl is a step down from TripIt

  • Weaker as an archive of confirmations made elsewhere
  • Booking depends on a third-party partner
  • Data location and AI model providers not stated

Standout against TripIt. Stippl is the only tool here that ties a drafted itinerary to a budget planner and a packing list in the same account.

KDE Itinerary

The nearest match to TripIt for reservations, running on your own device

Berlin, GermanyNo price on the app page; KDE asks for donations and supporting members.#4 in Travel Itinerary Planners

Best for: Android and Plasma Mobile users who book trains and flights and want local extraction

KDE Itinerary does the job at the heart of TripIt and moves it onto your phone. It extracts booking data from supported documents, stores QR codes, seat reservations and check-in times, and reports delays in real time. The app page states that extraction runs locally and that data is not sent to remote servers.

The price of that approach is setup and reach. The best email flow uses KMail with KDE Connect, or Nextcloud Mail, and extractors exist only for named operators. The page lists Plasma Mobile, Android and Linux through Flathub, but no iOS app. KDE e.V. in Berlin represents the community, and the licence is LGPL-2.0-or-later.

What KDE Itinerary does better than TripIt

  • Extraction on the device instead of a vendor server
  • Open source licence that anyone can audit
  • Indoor maps of stations and airports based on OpenStreetMap
  • No account or price

Where KDE Itinerary is a step down from TripIt

  • No iOS app on the page we read
  • No shared online itinerary or sightseeing planner
  • Technical setup and operator-specific extractors

Standout against TripIt. KDE Itinerary is the only tool here that extracts booking data from tickets on the device and publishes its source code.

Palima

A shared planning board for friends, built from saved videos

Clermont-Ferrand, FranceFree app download; free and premium features exist, premium price not shown on the pages we read.#5 in Travel Itinerary Planners

Best for: Friends who plan together and collect ideas from TikTok and Instagram

Palima treats a trip as a group project. Inspiration comes first, taken from TikTok and Instagram videos you save in the app. The itinerary, reservations and group sit in one place, and a web version lets you build on a computer. Next to TripIt, which centres on one traveller's bookings, Palima centres on the people travelling.

The company details are thinner than the others. SmarTrips, SIREN 987 832 367, is in Clermont-Ferrand, but the imprint still marks legal form, RCS and VAT fields as to be completed. The legal pages we read are in French, and the premium price is not shown. The website is hosted by Google Ireland on Firebase.

What Palima does better than TripIt

  • Group planning as the central feature
  • Saving inspiration from social videos
  • Memories section after the trip
  • A web version next to the apps

Where Palima is a step down from TripIt

  • Incomplete imprint fields
  • French-language legal pages
  • No described email-forwarding import or flight alerts

Standout against TripIt. Palima is the only tool here that starts a trip from TikTok and Instagram videos and ends with a memories page.

TravelMap

A shareable map of a route, where TripIt keeps a private schedule

Saint-Etienne, FranceFree: 0 EUR with straight lines, up to 100 photos, unlimited maps and spots. Premium: 4 EUR net per month or 30 EUR net per year. Premium Plus price is not shown on the pages we read.#6 in Travel Itinerary Planners

Best for: Solo travellers and families who want people at home to see where they are

TravelMap is a map before it is an itinerary. You trace past, present and future trips, mark the transport used and attach photos and posts to each spot. Viewers open the link without an account. TripIt keeps your schedule private by design, while TravelMap exists to be seen.

The pricing is the clearest of the group. The free tier draws straight lines and allows up to 100 photos. Premium costs €4 net per month or €30 net per year, and adds road-following lines and distances. TravelMap SASU in Saint-Etienne hosts with OVH in France, and its about page says one person runs it, which is a continuity risk.

What TravelMap does better than TripIt

  • Public prices in euros for Premium
  • Hosting in France by OVH
  • Viewers need no account to follow
  • Revenue from paid accounts and books, not advertisers

Where TravelMap is a step down from TripIt

  • No reservation import, flight tracking or calendar sync
  • Free tier limited to straight lines and 100 photos
  • A single person runs the company

Standout against TripIt. TravelMap is the only tool here with a published Premium price of €4 net per month and French hosting named in the imprint.

Layla

Hands the trip to an AI plus a human expert instead of filing it

Berlin, GermanyPlanning is free to start; the home page says 'No fees' and shows prices in USD. Booking prices are not listed on the pages we read.#7 in Travel Itinerary Planners

Best for: Travellers who want a finished, bookable trip without building it themselves

Layla swaps the roles that TripIt keeps apart. You chat about dates, budget and style, an AI drafts the trip, and according to the home page a travel expert checks it and books it. TripIt organises what you booked yourself, and Layla is the place where the booking happens.

That makes it a poor home for reservations made elsewhere. Chats are stored in your account, and the privacy policy names Google Analytics and Smartlook for usage data. Layla AI GmbH sits in Berlin under HRB 247135 B and German law. Booking charges and data location were not stated, and the 2M+ trips figure is a company statement.

What Layla does better than TripIt

  • A human expert reviews the AI plan
  • Support on WhatsApp during the trip
  • Live price comparison across flights, hotels, trains and cars
  • Register number, VAT ID and German law in the terms

Where Layla is a step down from TripIt

  • Not an organiser for bookings made elsewhere
  • Chat history and analytics tools in the privacy policy
  • Booking charges and data location not stated

Standout against TripIt. Layla is the only tool here where a human travel expert reviews the AI plan and books it for you.

Mapstr

A personal map of saved places that feeds city trips

Malakoff, FranceNot shown on the pages we read#8 in Travel Itinerary Planners

Best for: People who collect restaurants and sights from social posts for city trips

Mapstr begins with addresses, not reservations. You save places on a personal map, import them from Instagram and TikTok, and see what friends have saved. Compared with TripIt, which would not know a restaurant until a booking confirmation arrived, Mapstr holds the places you only plan to visit.

Dated day plans and bookings are not described on the pages we read, so Mapstr complements an organiser instead of replacing one. MAPSTR SAS is registered in Malakoff (SIREN 799 917 380, RCS Versailles). Data sits with AWS in the Ireland region, a US provider in the chain. The legal pages are in French, and pricing is not shown.

What Mapstr does better than TripIt

  • Importing places from Instagram and TikTok
  • Collaborative maps shared with friends
  • A web version next to iOS and Android
  • Stated hosting region in Ireland

Where Mapstr is a step down from TripIt

  • No flights, hotels or dated schedules
  • US cloud provider in the hosting chain
  • Prices and French-only legal pages

Standout against TripIt. Mapstr is the only tool here that imports saved places from Instagram and TikTok onto shared maps used to prepare trips.

ViaMichelin

Route and cost calculator for drivers, not a trip organiser

Clermont-Ferrand, FranceNot shown on the pages we read#9 in Travel Itinerary Planners

Best for: Drivers who want fuel and toll costs and stop ideas along a road route

ViaMichelin covers the car leg of a trip that TripIt would store only as a rental booking. It calculates routes with the cost of fuel and tolls, suggests stops along the way and links to hotels. The home page example shows fuel at EUR 49 and tolls at EUR 18 for a journey.

Saved multi-day itineraries, reservation import and collaboration are not described. Manufacture Francaise des Pneumatiques Michelin publishes it and is registered in Clermont-Ferrand under number 855 200 507. The legal notice says hosting is in Ireland with Microsoft Ireland Operations Ltd, the Irish unit of a US group. No price is shown.

What ViaMichelin does better than TripIt

  • Fuel and toll cost per journey
  • Ideas for stops along the route
  • Maps, traffic and hotel listings in one place

Where ViaMichelin is a step down from TripIt

  • No saved itineraries or reservation import
  • No collaboration described
  • Hosting by the Irish unit of a US group

Standout against TripIt. ViaMichelin is the only tool here that splits a journey into fuel and toll costs before you leave.

komoot

Outdoor route planner for hiking and cycling days inside a larger trip

Schönefeld, GermanyFree to plan routes, navigate your home region and use the community library; komoot Premium (multi-day routes, offline world maps, 3D maps, Garmin sync) is a paid subscription whose price is shown only after sign-in, not published on komoot.com#10 in Maps & Navigation

Best for: Hikers, cyclists and runners who plan multi-day outdoor routes

komoot plans the outdoor part of a trip. You pick a sport, such as hiking, road cycling, mountain biking, bikepacking or running, and komoot generates a route tuned to it from its community library of routes, photos and tips. TripIt has nothing comparable, because a confirmation email does not describe a trail.

It is a partial fit as an itinerary planner. Planning routes and navigating your home region is free, and Premium adds multi-day routes, offline world maps, 3D maps and Garmin sync. The price appears only after sign-in. komoot GmbH is based in Schönefeld, Germany, and no certification is published.

What komoot does better than TripIt

  • Sport-specific route generation
  • Community library of routes with photos and tips
  • Offline maps and voice navigation on the trail

Where komoot is a step down from TripIt

  • Not a booking or hotel organiser
  • Premium price visible only after sign-in
  • Built for outdoor days, less for city trips

Cocohop

A professional tool for agents who design and quote trips for clients

Draveil, FranceTheya EUR 12 excl. VAT per month per user (EUR 144 billed annually); Studio EUR 60 excl. VAT per month (EUR 720 annually, plus EUR 20 per extra user); Synergy EUR 100 excl. VAT per month (EUR 1,200 annually, plus EUR 25 per extra user). Annual billing saves 20%.#11 in Travel Itinerary Planners

Best for: Small tour operators and travel agents who build and quote custom trips

Cocohop serves the trade, not holidaymakers. It describes itself as an AI copilot for distributors and producers of tailored trips, and its interface shows projects with group size, margin and destination. A travel agent who once used TripIt-style organisers for client trips would compare it with those, not with Polarsteps.

Prices are public, in euros excluding VAT: Theya €12 per user per month, Studio €60 per month and Synergy €100 per month, with 20% off on annual billing. Cocohop SAS is registered at RCS Evry under 929 812 246. Hosting runs on Amazon Web Services EMEA SARL in Luxembourg, the pages are in French, and the time saving of up to 80% is the vendor's claim.

What Cocohop does better than TripIt

  • Quotes, margins and group bases for professionals
  • Public euro prices with no installation fee
  • A French company with RCS number and address

Where Cocohop is a step down from TripIt

  • Not meant for personal trips
  • French-language pages and no data export described
  • Hosted on the EU arm of a US cloud provider

Standout against TripIt. Cocohop is the only tool here that calculates the margin on a client trip as part of building the itinerary.

What actually breaks when you switch

The first thing that breaks is the automatic timeline. TripIt fills a trip from forwarded confirmations, and none of the European planners on this page matches that exactly. Expect to type or attach flights and hotels by hand, or to move to KDE Itinerary, which extracts locally but needs an Android or Plasma Mobile device and a mail setup.

The second is sharing. Everyone who has been invited to a trip needs an invitation to the new tool, and the people who only wanted to see the plan may not install anything. Polarsteps followers and TravelMap viewers are the lightest case, since TravelMap viewers need no account. Pay attention to the corporate side as well, because a linked SAP Concur account will not follow you.

Can I move my TripIt trips to a European planner?

There is no import path described by any of the European vendors on this page, so plan for re-entry. For trips still ahead, the quickest route is to open each trip in TripIt, copy the flight numbers, hotel names and dates, and add them to the new tool. Tripomatic accepts flights by number and reads tickets or confirmations you attach, which saves typing.

For trips that are over, keep the PDFs and screenshots and let them go. A finished trip is worth moving only if you want its map in Polarsteps or TravelMap, and both let you trace a past journey by hand. Everything else can stay in your own folder.

Which European planner reads booking emails like TripIt?

KDE Itinerary is the one that does, and it does it differently. The app page says extraction is performed locally and data is not sent to remote servers. The smoothest route is KMail with KDE Connect, and Nextcloud Mail with DavDroid also works, so the setup is more technical than forwarding an email to TripIt.

The others do not describe an email-forwarding import on the pages we read. Tripomatic reads documents you attach in its AI assistant, and Layla books trips through its own experts, so those two work from files or from bookings made in the tool. Polarsteps, Palima, TravelMap, Mapstr and ViaMichelin describe no booking import.

Which one to pick

If your main need is a clean schedule of bookings, KDE Itinerary comes closest and keeps extraction on your device, at the cost of a more technical setup and no iOS app. If your main need is to plan days on a map, Tripomatic is the sturdier starting point, with a free plan and PDF, GPX and KML export. For groups that decide together, Palima and Stippl are built for it.

Choose Polarsteps or TravelMap when the point is to share the route with people at home, and Layla when you would rather have a travel expert hand you a bookable plan. Mapstr and ViaMichelin fill gaps beside an organiser, and komoot covers the hiking and cycling days. Cocohop is for agents. Keep TripIt if a company account and email forwarding are the reasons you use it.

Frequently Asked Questions

For a day-by-day plan on a map, Tripomatic from Brno has a free plan and exports to PDF, GPX and KML. For keeping reservations on your own device, KDE Itinerary from the KDE community in Berlin is open source and extracts bookings locally. For a trip you share while travelling, Polarsteps from Amsterdam adds a route tracker. No single tool covers all three.

TripIt's privacy statement names Concur Technologies, Inc., 601 108th Avenue NE, Bellevue, Washington, as controller through its TripIt business unit. It describes SAP Concur as a wholly owned subsidiary of SAP. We could not read the current terms or the pricing pages in this check, so we make no statement about either.

The privacy statement says TripIt can read connected email accounts to pull travel details into your trips. Whether it does so depends on whether you connected an account or forward messages. If you want the same effect without a vendor reading your mail, KDE Itinerary extracts booking data on the device, according to its app page.

Yes. Tripomatic has a free plan with no time limit, though it caps planning at 5 days with activities per calendar month and shows ads. Stippl is free to join, Polarsteps is free to download, and KDE Itinerary is free to install. TravelMap has a free tier with straight lines and up to 100 photos, and Premium costs €4 net per month.

According to TripIt's privacy statement, itineraries can be visible to your employer if you link a company SAP Concur account. If you never link one, that route does not apply. Anyone who wants private trips to stay private can keep them in a planner with no corporate integration, such as Polarsteps, whose trips are visible only to followers by default.
