European Alternatives to HireVue

Looking for a European alternative to HireVue? HireVue, Inc. states in its privacy notice that it is located in the United States, so candidate interviews and assessments run through a US company, and its pricing page directs buyers to request a demo rather than showing prices.

These European tools cover one-way video screening, AI-led interviews and applicant tracking systems with video built in, from vendors contracting in Spain, the Netherlands, Finland, Germany, Sweden, Luxembourg and the United Kingdom, and several of them publish a price.

How we rank these tools — 4-step process
  1. 1
    European ownership, verified

The company is headquartered and incorporated in the EU, EEA, the UK, Switzerland or Israel, and processes customer data in Europe or Israel. A US parent company disqualifies a tool from this page regardless of where its servers are.

  2. 2
    Category fit and hands-on review

What the tool actually does, who it suits, and where it falls short — checked against the vendor’s own documentation, changelog and pricing page rather than its marketing copy.

  3. 3
    Compliance and pricing check

GDPR posture, hosting location and the prices quoted on this page are verified against the vendor’s public pricing before publication, and re-checked when we revisit the category.

  4. 4
    Position on this page

Placement on this page can be paid, and that can affect which tools appear here and the order they appear in. It never buys a good review: a tool that fails the checks above is not here at any price, and payment does not change the shortcomings we write about. A vendor can ask us to correct a factual error — not to remove a criticism.

Vendors can pay for visibility on this page. It never changes what an entry says about a product, including the criticism, and we earn nothing when you click through to a vendor. Vendors can pay for more visibility, higher up on the review pages; it never affects which tools are listed. Editorial policy

Key takeaways

  • HireVue states in its privacy notice that it is located in the United States, and transfers of EU, UK and Swiss data to it rely on the Data Privacy Framework.
  • HireVue's public privacy notice excludes customers' job applicants, so candidate data is governed by each customer's data processing terms.
  • The HireVue pricing page we read on 16 October 2026 showed no price figures, while Willo, Hireflix, Cammio and Tribepad publish at least an entry price.
  • Willo (Glasgow), Hireflix (Barcelona), Cammio (The Hague) and Recright (Helsinki) are the closest dedicated European tools for one-way video screening.
  • Tengai (Stockholm) replaces the recorded video with an AI avatar interview and says its data handling is in Sweden.

Why people leave HireVue

HireVue, Inc. sells software that sits between a candidate and a hiring decision. A job applicant records answers on camera or takes an assessment, and the employer reviews the result later. That makes the platform a store of faces, voices and scored answers about people who never chose the vendor and who usually cannot say no to it, because it is the employer who decides how the first round of hiring runs.

The company is American. The privacy notice on its Legal Center says HireVue is located in the United States, and our records place its headquarters in South Jordan, Utah.

The same notice explains that transfers from the EU, the UK and Switzerland to the United States rest on the Data Privacy Framework, the adequacy arrangement that exists between Washington and Brussels today. It is a valid mechanism, but it is a political agreement rather than a property of the product, and European data protection officers have seen earlier ones fall.

Buyers who look beyond HireVue tend to arrive from one of three directions: a works council or DPO that wants candidate recordings under a European contract, a team that is tired of asking for a quote just to learn what video screening costs, or a smaller employer that finds an enterprise platform larger than the problem. The European tools below answer those three concerns in different proportions, and none of them is a copy of HireVue.

  • Candidate recordings end up with a US company HireVue states in its own privacy notice that it is located in the United States. For an employer in Madrid, Berlin or Stockholm, that means interview video of European applicants is processed by a US-headquartered processor, with the Data Privacy Framework as the transfer basis. If your legal team prefers a contract with an EU or UK entity and a supervisory authority in the same legal system as the candidate, that is a structural gap rather than a configuration setting.
  • The privacy notice leaves the candidate data to your contract HireVue's public notice says it does not apply to personal information about a customer's job applicants. That data is governed instead by the data processing terms agreed with each customer. This is normal for a processor, but it means the answers a candidate cares about, such as retention and sub-processors, are not on the public page. They sit in a data processing addendum you have to negotiate and read.
  • No visible price before a sales conversation On 16 October 2026 the pricing page we read showed no figures in its text, and the site directs buyers to request a demo. Several of the European tools publish a number, from Willo's per-role rate to Hireflix's flat monthly plans. A published price lets a recruiter with a small budget decide in an afternoon whether a tool is even in range.
  • Assessment scoring raises documentation work in Europe HireVue is described as covering candidate interviews and assessments, and scoring candidates is a regulated use of AI in recruitment under the EU AI Act. Employers using any such system have to be able to explain it to candidates and regulators. Some buyers prefer a tool that only records answers for humans to review, which removes the question instead of answering it.

What you have to replace, not just match

Moving off HireVue is mostly a decision about which job you actually need done. If recruiters mainly send the same questions to a long list of applicants and watch the answers later, a one-way tool such as Willo, Hireflix or Cammio does that and nothing more. If your process also leans on structured interviews or scoring, Recright and viasto add criteria-based rating, and Tengai replaces the first conversation itself with an AI avatar.

What you have to replace is wider than the video. List the question sets and interview templates that candidates currently see, the scorecards your hiring managers fill in, the integration that pushes results into your applicant tracking system, and the reminder emails and branding around the invitation.

Also decide what happens to the recordings you already hold: the retention rule that applied to them in HireVue should be applied to whatever you export, and a candidate who asks for deletion in the new tool will not be able to reach the old copy.

If you are re-evaluating the ATS as well, Skeeled, Tribepad and Workable put video inside the recruiting system, so one contract covers both. That route costs more per month than a standalone tool, and in Tribepad's case the video comes from Willo underneath, so check whether you would be paying twice for the same engine.

How each alternative compares to HireVue

#1

Willo

The nearest dedicated one-way screening tool, with a readable pay-per-role price

Glasgow, Scotland

Best for: Teams that want structured recorded screening and a price they can check before talking to sales.

Willo, run by Willo Technologies Ltd from Glasgow, covers the part of HireVue that most recruiters use daily: send a fixed set of questions, let candidates record answers in their own time, review them with scorecards. Against a vendor whose pricing page shows no numbers, Willo lists £49 per live role on pay as you go and an annual Enterprise plan from £2,999.

Its integration list is long (50+ ATS connections and an open API), and it adds ID and right-to-work checks. The catch for a privacy-driven switch is hosting: the policy says primarily EU on AWS, with limited US processing through some providers, so the data path is not purely European.

What Willo does better than HireVue

  • Prices are published, including a no-contract pay-per-role plan
  • UK contracting entity under UK data protection law
  • ISO 27001 certified and available in 18+ languages
  • Large library of ready-made assessments to start from

Where Willo is a step down from HireVue

  • No live two-way interviews, so a second product is needed for those
  • Lite plan is capped at five live roles and 150 assessed candidates per role
  • Limited US processing is still possible through some providers

Standout against HireVue. Willo is the only tool on this page where a small team can read a per-role price, sign no contract and be live the same day.

#2

Hireflix

A flat-fee one-way tool with unlimited seats for teams that dislike per-interview billing

Barcelona, Spain

Best for: Small and mid-sized employers that want predictable monthly cost and no cap on positions or recruiters.

Hireflix S.L. in Barcelona sells one-way video interviews and little else. Instead of metering interviews, it charges $75 or $150 a month on yearly billing, with unlimited seats, positions and responses and a one-month free trial. Compared with a quote-only enterprise platform, the cost is easy to forecast and easy to defend to a finance team.

It is also the plainest tool here. There are no live calls, assessments or AI features, and the pages we reviewed do not say where recordings are hosted, though its privacy policy notes that some providers may sit outside the EEA. It is SOC 2 compliant, and the governing law is Spanish.

What Hireflix does better than HireVue

  • Flat monthly price with unlimited seats and positions
  • One-month free trial instead of a demo request
  • Spanish contracting entity under Spanish law
  • Nothing to configure beyond questions and invitations

Where Hireflix is a step down from HireVue

  • Prices are quoted in US dollars
  • Hosting region is not stated on the pages we reviewed
  • No assessments, live interviews or AI scoring

Standout against HireVue. Hireflix removes per-recruiter and per-role charges, which suits teams whose interview volume changes month to month.

#3

Cammio

The tool to look at for graduate and volume programmes with EU data centres

The Hague, Netherlands

Best for: Employers running recurring graduate, young talent or high-volume campaigns who want hands-on onboarding.

Cammio B.V., registered in The Hague since 2013, builds pre-recorded interviews around campaign-style hiring. It adds video messages (Clips) and video vacancies (Stories), custom branding and a dedicated client success manager, which is closer to a managed service than a self-serve app.

Its clearest advantage over HireVue for a European buyer is stated hosting: all data centres are in the EU. The price is a single starting figure of €620 a month with no entry tier, so a team that hires a handful of people a year will find a per-role tool cheaper. The pages we read did not show its ATS integration list.

What Cammio does better than HireVue

  • All data centres are stated to be in the EU
  • Starting price is published in euros
  • Dutch company registered in the KvK, with a named support manager
  • Clips and Stories included for candidate communication

Where Cammio is a step down from HireVue

  • No entry tier below €620 a month
  • Small team of around 14 people
  • One-way focus only, with ATS integration detail not shown

Standout against HireVue. Cammio is the one dedicated video tool here that names the EU as the location of every data centre.

#4

Recright

Video screening tied to structured interviews, hosted in Dublin and Frankfurt

Helsinki, Finland

Best for: Recruitment teams that score candidates against fixed criteria and want certified security.

Recright Oy of Helsinki, active since 2010, goes beyond recorded answers. It combines asynchronous video screening with structured interviews, pre-screening and a light applicant tracking layer, and it adds AI summaries and transcripts. For a team used to rating candidates against criteria in HireVue, that is the nearest European match in method.

It is ISO 27001 certified and stores data in Dublin and Frankfurt, with the customer remaining data controller. The drawbacks are practical: no published prices, a site that is partly in Finnish, and English pages that returned an error when we checked.

What Recright does better than HireVue

  • Hosting is stated: EU data centres in Dublin and Frankfurt
  • ISO 27001 certified
  • Structured interview framework sits next to the video screening
  • Finnish company with a public business ID

Where Recright is a step down from HireVue

  • No published pricing, so cost only comes out of a demo
  • Much of the documentation is in Finnish
  • Broader than a pure video tool, which adds setup

Standout against HireVue. Recright combines video screening, structured interviews and EU hosting under an ISO 27001 certificate in one Finnish product.

#5

viasto

A German video recruiting suite that covers applications, one-way and live interviews

Berlin, Germany

Best for: German-speaking HR teams that want competency-based video selection in a single system.

viasto GmbH in Berlin, around since 2010, is the only dedicated tool here that handles video applications, time-shifted interviews and live interviews in one suite. Where HireVue pushes a buyer into a sales process, viasto does the same: it publishes no prices and sells through a demo.

Its AI role is narrow, limited to drafting interview guides, and rating is competency-based. The language is the main hurdle for non-German markets, since the site is mostly in German with an English version available. We could not see a hosting location or an ATS integration list on the pages reviewed.

What viasto does better than HireVue

  • Live interviews and one-way interviews in the same system
  • German GmbH on the Berlin commercial register
  • AI is limited to drafting interview guides

Where viasto is a step down from HireVue

  • No published pricing, as with HireVue
  • Mostly German-language site
  • No visible ATS integration list or stated hosting

Standout against HireVue. viasto lets a team run a video application, a recorded round and a live call without leaving one German product.

#6

Tengai

An AI avatar runs the first interview instead of a candidate talking to a camera

Stockholm, Sweden

Best for: Volume hiring in retail, hospitality or logistics where the first round can be the same for everyone.

Tengai AB in Stockholm is the odd one out. Candidates do not record video for later; they talk to an AI avatar that asks the same structured questions of everyone, then a ranked shortlist is returned. That targets the part of HireVue that automates screening, and it comes with a stated data location in Sweden.

The trade-off is that there is no recorded video for a manager to watch. Pricing is not published, and the ranking uses a personality-trait framework, which buyers need to document under the EU AI Act. Reference customers are mostly Nordic, and the tool works with any ATS through an open API.

What Tengai does better than HireVue

  • Data handling stated to be in Sweden
  • Same structured interview for every candidate
  • ATS-agnostic through an open API
  • Interviews run around the clock on any device

Where Tengai is a step down from HireVue

  • No recorded video for hiring managers to review
  • Pricing is not published
  • Personality-based ranking requires AI Act documentation from the buyer

Standout against HireVue. Tengai swaps the camera-to-recruiter model for an avatar that produces a ranked list, with Swedish data handling.

#7

Skeeled

A Luxembourg ATS with one-way video built in, for buyers replacing the whole system

Dudelange, Luxembourg

Best for: Companies choosing a new ATS that want video screening and assessments included in the same contract.

Skeeled HR S.à r.l., based in Dudelange, offers an applicant tracking system with native one-way video, cognitive, personality and motivation assessments, structured interviewing and scorecards. Against a standalone video platform, the saving is one fewer integration to build and maintain.

The video feature is described in a single line on its features page, so it is thinner than at Willo or Cammio. Pricing and hosting are not published on the pages we reviewed, though a published AI transparency notice is a point in its favour. If you already own an ATS, you would pay for functions you do not use.

What Skeeled does better than HireVue

  • Video, assessments and ATS under one Luxembourg contract
  • Published AI transparency notice
  • API and multi-language job and email support

Where Skeeled is a step down from HireVue

  • Pricing and hosting location are not published
  • Video functionality is less detailed than in dedicated tools
  • Overkill if an ATS is already in place

Standout against HireVue. Skeeled is the choice when the question is a new ATS first and video second.

#8

TestGorilla

Skills tests first, with AI-scored video questions as one step

NetherlandsFree plan; Core from $215 per month and Plus from $520 per month per account, billed annually (US dollar view of the pricing page)#8 in Pre-Employment Assessment Software

Best for: Employers that screen on test results first and add video or an AI interview for a smaller group.

TestGorilla B.V. in the Netherlands is a skills-testing platform with more than 350 tests, to which it adds AI-scored video questions and AI interviews. Compared with HireVue assessments, it starts from tests and treats video as a later step, and it has a free plan with 10 credits a month.

Video is not its centre. Custom video questions and the full AI interview library come only with the Plus plan, and video answers are scored by AI rather than rated by colleagues in a shared review. The pricing page defaults to US dollars, with Core from $215 and Plus from $520 a month, billed annually.

What TestGorilla does better than HireVue

  • Free plan to test the workflow before paying
  • Large library of skills tests next to the video step
  • Dutch company on the KvK register

Where TestGorilla is a step down from HireVue

  • Video answers are AI scored rather than rated by a team
  • Custom video questions need the Plus plan
  • Hosting region is not stated on the pages reviewed

Standout against HireVue. TestGorilla lets you filter on skills before anyone records a video answer.

#9

Tribepad

A Sheffield ATS whose video screening is powered by Willo

Sheffield, England

Best for: UK employers choosing an ATS with recurring volume hiring, including public sector and health.

Tribepad Limited in Sheffield has sold recruiting software since 2008. Its video screening is powered by Willo, so what you get is the Willo engine inside a full ATS with careers site, talent pooling, compliance checks and onboarding. Unlike HireVue, it publishes an entry figure: Gro from £579 a month, paid annually.

The price comes with a £2,000 set-up fee, and the pages do not say whether video screening is part of Gro. Its privacy policy notes that some providers may process data outside the UK or EEA. If your only need is video, buying Willo directly is cheaper.

What Tribepad does better than HireVue

  • Entry price is published
  • ATS, scorecards and video screening in one UK system
  • Registered at Companies House, with public sector experience

Where Tribepad is a step down from HireVue

  • Video is supplied by a third party, Willo
  • Annual commitment plus a £2,000 set-up fee

Standout against HireVue. Tribepad is the route for buyers who want Willo-grade video but a single ATS contract.

#10

Workable

A general recruiting suite where one-way video is a paid add-on

London, United Kingdom

Best for: Small and mid-sized employers already on, or picking, an all-in-one recruiting suite.

Workable Software Limited, contracting from London, sells applicant tracking and HR software with 270+ integrations. One-way video is an add-on at $109 a month on top of plans that start at $299 a month, so it suits teams that need video as an occasional step rather than the core of hiring.

It offers AI-drafted interview questions and settings for think time and takes. Prices appear in US dollars and the hosting location is not stated on the pages we reviewed, so ask where support and sub-processing sit. The terms are under English law with the London entity as provider.

What Workable does better than HireVue

  • Published pricing for both the suite and the video add-on
  • UK contracting entity under English law
  • Video sits beside ATS and HR tools with 270+ integrations

Where Workable is a step down from HireVue

  • Video is a paid add-on, with less depth than dedicated tools
  • Hosting location is not stated

Standout against HireVue. Workable is the cheapest way to add a basic video step when a full recruiting suite is already the plan.

What actually breaks when you switch

The biggest break is the candidate-facing part. Invitation links, question wording, think time and answer length are set per tool, so every active campaign has to be rebuilt rather than copied across.

Plan the change between campaigns, not during one, and tell your recruiters which questions carried the most weight in the old setup so the new one keeps them. If candidates were told a particular tool or scoring method in your privacy notice, update that text before the first invitation goes out.

Behind the screen, three things need checking before you cancel. Confirm what your HireVue contract lets you export and for how long after termination.

Re-create the connection to your applicant tracking system, since a status change in the old tool may have triggered stages in the new one. And agree the retention period with each new vendor in writing, because a deleted recording in one system does not delete the copy sitting in another. Expect to run both tools in parallel for a few weeks.

Does moving away from HireVue mean losing the recordings we already have?

Not automatically, but you have to ask for them. Check your contract for an export right and a retention period, and request the files and the scores before the subscription ends. Once the account is closed, the vendor will follow its deletion terms, which may leave you with nothing to show a candidate who later asks for their data.

Decide per recording whether it needs to be kept at all. Applicants who were rejected months ago usually fall under a short retention period in your own policy, and the move is a good moment to delete what you no longer have grounds to hold.

Is a European vendor automatically GDPR-compliant for video interviews?

No. A European contracting entity puts the vendor under EU or UK data protection law and a supervisory authority in your region, but you stay the controller of the recordings. You still need a lawful basis, a retention rule, a notice to candidates and a way to delete a recording on request.

Read the details per tool. Cammio says all its data centres are in the EU and Recright names Dublin and Frankfurt, while Willo says processing is primarily in the EU with limited US processing through some providers. Hireflix, viasto, Skeeled, TestGorilla, Tribepad and Workable do not state a hosting region on the pages we reviewed, so ask for it in writing.

Which one to pick

If your need is recorded screening with an open price, start with Willo for per-role billing and Hireflix for a flat monthly fee. If you hire graduates or in volume and want EU data centres spelled out, choose Cammio. If you rate candidates on criteria and want certified hosting in Dublin and Frankfurt, look at Recright, and at viasto if your team works in German and also wants live interviews.

If you want the first round automated, Tengai is the only tool on this page that does it with an avatar, and you should plan for AI Act documentation.

If you are replacing an ATS at the same time, Skeeled, Tribepad and Workable put video inside the system, with Tribepad running on Willo underneath. Choose TestGorilla if skills tests should come before video. HireVue is a single platform covering both interviews and assessments, and no one European tool matches that scope, so a very large programme may need to combine two of these.

Frequently Asked Questions

For recorded one-way screening, Willo from Glasgow and Hireflix from Barcelona are the clearest fits, and both publish prices. Cammio from The Hague suits graduate and high-volume programmes with EU data centres, and Recright from Helsinki adds structured interviews. Tengai from Stockholm is the pick if you want an AI avatar to run the first interview. Which is best depends on whether you want recordings, scoring or a full ATS.

HireVue, Inc. says in its privacy notice that it is located in the United States, and our records place its headquarters in South Jordan, Utah. The notice adds that the company and its service providers operate in several countries, and that transfers from the EU, UK and Switzerland to the United States rely on the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework and its UK and Swiss extensions.

HireVue's pricing page showed no figures when we read it, so we cannot compare directly. Among the European tools, Willo lists £49 per live role and Enterprise from £2,999 a year, Hireflix lists $75 and $150 a month on yearly billing, Cammio starts at €620 a month, and Tribepad's ATS starts at £579 a month. Recright, viasto, Tengai and Skeeled quote on request.

Some can. TestGorilla combines a library of more than 350 skills tests with AI-scored video questions and AI interviews, and Tengai ranks candidates after its avatar interview. Willo, Hireflix and Cammio are built for humans to watch the answers. Because recruitment is a regulated use under the EU AI Act, ask any vendor that scores candidates for a written explanation of how.

Usually not. Willo lists 50+ ATS integrations, Hireflix integrates with ATS platforms, and Tengai offers an open API and is ATS-agnostic. If you are choosing an ATS anyway, Skeeled, Tribepad and Workable include video in the system, which gives you one contract but a higher monthly bill than a standalone tool.
