European Alternatives to Samsara

Looking for a European alternative to Samsara? Samsara Inc. of San Francisco contracts under California law, sends disputes to the courts of San Francisco County or to JAMS arbitration in San Francisco at its election, and its data protection addendum names Samsara Inc. as the data importer for transfers outside Europe.

Eleven European fleet and telematics providers cover the job, from video telematics and tachograph platforms to open hardware makers and a construction-equipment specialist, from companies in the Netherlands, Latvia, the UK, Ireland, Norway, Denmark, Italy, Lithuania and Germany.

How we rank these tools — 4-step process
  1. 1
    European ownership, verified

The company is headquartered and incorporated in the EU, EEA or Switzerland, and processes customer data in Europe. A US parent company disqualifies a tool from this page regardless of where its servers are.

  2. 2
    Category fit and hands-on review

What the tool actually does, who it suits, and where it falls short — checked against the vendor’s own documentation, changelog and pricing page rather than its marketing copy.

  3. 3
    Compliance and pricing check

GDPR posture, hosting location and the prices quoted on this page are verified against the vendor’s public pricing before publication, and re-checked when we revisit the category.

  4. 4
    Position on this page

Placement on this page can be paid, and that can affect which tools appear here and the order they appear in. It never buys a good review: a tool that fails the checks above is not here at any price, and payment does not change the shortcomings we write about. A vendor can ask us to correct a factual error — not to remove a criticism.

Vendors can pay for visibility on this page. It never changes what an entry says about a product, including the criticism, and we earn nothing when you click through to a vendor. Paid placement can affect which tools appear here and the order they appear in. Editorial policy

Why people leave Samsara

Samsara sells a connected operations platform: AI dash cams, fleet telematics with GPS, routing and ELD compliance, equipment and trailer tracking, and a workforce app for drivers. Its homepage shows no prices and points to a plans page, so a quote is part of the buying process. It offers site languages for Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, the Netherlands and Belgium, which shows it sells in Europe.

The contracting party is Samsara Inc. in San Francisco. Its master terms (updated June 2026) are governed by California law, give the state and federal courts in San Francisco County exclusive venue, and let Samsara choose confidential JAMS arbitration in San Francisco, in English, on an individual basis with a class-action waiver. The terms read had no separate section for customers in Europe.

For fleet data, which includes vehicle locations and driver behaviour, the data protection addendum is the relevant document. It uses the EU standard contractual clauses and a UK addendum, says Samsara is certified under the EU-US, UK and Swiss-US Data Privacy Frameworks, names Samsara Inc. as importer, and lets Samsara transfer personal data to any country as reasonably necessary. It does not mention an EU data region, so ask Samsara directly. This page lists eleven European alternatives.

  • The dispute route runs through San Francisco The master terms choose California law and the courts of San Francisco County, and let Samsara elect JAMS arbitration in San Francisco in English. For a European fleet operator, a dispute would mean foreign law, a foreign venue and a class-action waiver. The providers below use the law of the Netherlands, Latvia, England and Wales, Norway or Germany, and where we read the terms, a court in that country.
  • Driver data is personal data, and the transfer route matters Locations, trips and dash-cam video identify drivers. Samsara documents its route for EU data: standard contractual clauses, a UK addendum and a Data Privacy Framework certification, with Samsara Inc. as importer and AWS infrastructure. That is a lawful route, but it is a transfer. With European providers, the contracting company and, in several cases, the hosting are in Europe, which can simplify your records of processing.
  • Pricing is by quote, and so is much of the field Samsara shows no prices on its homepage. Several European providers here showed none on the pages read (Webfleet, Transpoco, Trackunit, Targa, GPS-Buddy), so price transparency is not a point in favour of either side. Quartix is the exception, with plans shown from £9.99 a month and contracts that do not auto-renew.
  • Tachograph and European compliance are native Webfleet, Mapon, Ruptela and GPS-Buddy all list tachograph management on their own sites. For European haulage that is part of the baseline, and the others below add narrower strengths, such as construction equipment at Trackunit, tools and assets at ABAX or a tax-ready logbook at Vimcar.

What you have to replace, not just match

List what Samsara does for you today: GPS tracking, dash cams, driver coaching, ELD or tachograph, equipment, maintenance and integrations. A van fleet that needs tracking and a logbook has a short list, and a truck fleet with video and tachograph compliance needs a longer one. Ask each vendor for a trial or demo on your own vehicles.

Check the hardware. Most telematics products need their own devices and cameras, so a move often means replacing in-vehicle hardware. Plan the installation, run both systems on a pilot group first, and agree on how long driver and trip history will stay available after you leave Samsara.

What actually breaks when you switch

Hardware is the main cost of switching. Dash cams, gateways and trackers are installed in the vehicle, so a move means removing and refitting devices. Pilot a few vehicles with the new provider and keep Samsara running on the rest until you are sure.

History does not move on its own. Ask Samsara how you can export trip, driver and safety data, and agree with the new provider what it will import, because driver records may be needed for compliance and disputes.

Most of these providers use quotes, not price lists. Compare the total for the same vehicles over the same contract term, including hardware, installation, cameras and any mandatory minimum period.

Is there a European tool that works like Samsara?

Webfleet is the closest in shape. Its UK page lists fleet dash cams, tachograph management and vehicle tracking for trucks, vans, cars, trailers and assets, and it offers a free trial. Mapon and Transpoco both add AI camera systems to tracking.

None of these replicates Samsara's entire platform. If you use its workflows, driver apps or safety wearables, check each point with the vendor before you move.

Which of these can show prices?

Quartix is the only one that shows plans on its homepage: InfoPoint at £9.99, InfoPlus at £11.99 and InfoFleet at £15.99 a month, with a custom quote for Enterprise and contracts that start at 12 months. Webfleet, Transpoco, Trackunit, Targa, GPS-Buddy, Ruptela and MICHELIN Connected Fleet showed no prices on the pages read, and Mapon and ABAX link to plans or price pages that were not read.

Ask for a quote that includes hardware, installation and the contract term, because the monthly fee alone is not the whole cost.

Which suit a fleet with heavy equipment rather than vans?

Trackunit is built for the construction industry, with the IrisX data platform, Manager software and its own hardware for rental companies and contractors. ABAX tracks vehicles, tools and assets, and GPS-Buddy lists trailer and asset tracking.

For vans and trucks on the road, Webfleet, Mapon, Quartix and Transpoco are more usual choices.

Does a European provider avoid data transfers outside Europe?

Not automatically. The contracting company sits in Europe (the EU, the UK, Norway), but that does not settle where data is processed or which sub-processors are involved. Read each provider's data processing terms, and ask where hosting and support access sit.

What changes is the legal structure of the contract. With the providers here, the contract is with a company in Europe, under a European law, rather than with a San Francisco company under California law.

Which one to pick

If you want the nearest thing to Samsara, with dash cams, tachograph and tracking, start with Webfleet and Mapon. If you want published prices and contracts that do not auto-renew, look at Quartix. For AI dash cams with an Irish or Norwegian vendor, Transpoco and ABAX are worth a demo.

Pick Trackunit if your fleet is excavators and lifts, Ruptela if you want hardware and software from the same maker, GPS-Buddy for a Dutch contract with trailer and cold-chain tracking, and Vimcar if all you need is a tax-ready logbook with GPS location for a few cars.

Be realistic about the gap. Samsara's breadth of video, workflow and driver tools is larger than any single provider here, and several of these list no prices or product details on the pages we could read. Switch if you want a contract with a company in Europe under a European law, and ask each vendor for the details this review could not confirm.

Frequently Asked Questions

Webfleet is the closest in shape, with dash cams, tachograph management and tracking, and a free trial. Mapon is a strong second for AI cameras and an open approach to devices, and Quartix is the one to look at if you want a published price. The right answer depends on your vehicles and whether you need video or tachograph.

No. Samsara Inc. is in San Francisco, and its data protection addendum lists it at 1 De Haro Street. It sells in Europe, with site languages for Germany, France and the Netherlands, but its terms are governed by California law.

Samsara's homepage showed no prices and pointed to a plans page. This review could not confirm any amounts, so none are quoted here. Ask for a quote that includes cameras, gateways and the contract term.

Its UK homepage lists InfoPoint at £9.99, InfoPlus at £11.99 and InfoFleet at £15.99 a month, with Enterprise on request. All contracts start at 12 months with no auto-renewal. Prices are in pounds and for the UK; check the page for your country.

The page footer names Webfleet Solutions B.V., and the UK page lists a UK branch of Webfleet Solutions Sales B.V. at Companies House (FC031857). The page also shows Bridgestone FleetCare branding; the ownership structure was not checked here.

It is run in the UK by Masternaut Limited, trading as MICHELIN Connected Fleet, registered in England and Wales (number 7848318) with its office in Leeds. The UK is in Europe but outside the EU, and the terms of its website choose the English courts.

The Norwegian register lists ABAX AS (organisation number 993098736) and ABAX GROUP AS (918965556), both in Larvik. ABAX's terms say the supplier is the legal entity named in your order confirmation, so check which entity signs your contract.

Webfleet offers a free trial request, Transpoco and Mapon offer demos, and Vimcar offers a free demo of its logbook without signing up. Quartix does not describe a trial on its homepage, but its 12-month contracts do not auto-renew.

Sometimes. Mapon says it supports tracking devices from several makers, and Ruptela makes its own devices that can be used with its software. For others, expect to replace devices and cameras, and ask the vendor in writing which of your current units will work.

Quartix, with a published price list and no auto-renewal, and Vimcar, which combines a digital logbook with GPS location for small fleets in Germany and Austria, are the lightest options. Both are narrower than Samsara.
