Hivebrite

Hivebrite was legally established in Paris in 2012, with the platform itself commercially launching in 2015. The company operates today under the legal name Kit United SAS, a société par actions simplifiée registered with the RCS Paris commercial court, based at 6 rue Auber in the city's 9th arrondissement.

The group has grown foreign subsidiaries over the years — Hivebrite, Inc. in New York, Hivebrite UK Ltd in London, and Hivebrite Australia Pty Ltd — but the parent entity that owns and controls them is the French SAS, which is the opposite ownership direction from a European-sounding brand actually controlled by a US or UK parent.

The product goes further into membership operations than a typical discussion-first community tool.

Chapters, tiered dues and donation collection sit alongside discussion spaces, events, connections and monetization, aimed squarely at the 2,000-plus associations and alumni networks the company says it already serves.

Pricing is published rather than fully quote-only at the entry tiers: Core is $895 a month billed annually for a full community operating system with unlimited users, email campaigns and automation; Flex is $1,995 a month billed annually and adds group management with community-champion tooling (5 group-admin seats, 10 groups). Prime, for mature regional communities, and Custom Fit, for complex organisations, are both quoted only after a discovery call, and there is no free trial at any tier.

The one place worth reading the fine print carefully is data residency.

Hivebrite's own Data Processing Agreement states that personal data is hosted on Amazon Web Services and Google Cloud Platform servers, and its published sub-processor list names EU regions (Ireland, Frankfurt, Belgium, Zurich) alongside non-EEA regions such as Sydney and North Virginia, plus a long list of US-headquartered sub-processors including Twilio, Intuit, Zendesk, Amplitude, Meta and LinkedIn.

International transfers outside the EEA are covered by Standard Contractual Clauses rather than a firm "EU-only" hosting pledge. That is a normal setup for a global SaaS company and not disqualifying under this site's ownership rule, which looks at where the company is headquartered and incorporated, but it is a materially different posture from a vendor that commits to EU-only infrastructure throughout.

• Pricing is listed in US dollars despite the company being French
