European Food Delivery Apps

Food delivery apps connect diners with restaurants, shops and couriers, and the operator you contract with holds your address, order history and payment data. A European option matters because the operator's legal seat decides which law and which courts apply to your orders. The tools below name a contracting entity in the EU, EEA or UK in their imprint, terms or privacy statement.

How we rank these tools — 4-step process
  1. 1
    European ownership, verified

The company is headquartered and incorporated in the EU, EEA, the UK, Switzerland or Israel, and processes customer data in Europe or Israel. A US parent company disqualifies a tool from this page regardless of where its servers are.

  2. 2
    Category fit and hands-on review

What the tool actually does, who it suits, and where it falls short — checked against the vendor’s own documentation, changelog and pricing page rather than its marketing copy.

  3. 3
    Compliance and pricing check

GDPR posture, hosting location and the prices quoted on this page are verified against the vendor’s public pricing before publication, and re-checked when we revisit the category.

  4. 4
    Position on this page

Placement on this page can be paid, and that can affect the order tools appear in. It never buys a listing: a tool that fails the checks above is not here at any price, and payment does not change the shortcomings we write about. A vendor can ask us to correct a factual error — not to remove a criticism.

Vendors can pay for visibility on this page. It never changes what an entry says about a product, including the criticism, and we earn nothing when you click through to a vendor. Vendors can pay for more visibility, higher up on the review pages; it never affects whether a tool is listed. Editorial policy

  • Picnic and Knuspr state that delivery is free, and Oda gives new customers three months of free delivery if they order every other week or more.
  • Frichti delivers its own meals in an average of 15 minutes in Paris according to its landing page, and Snappy Shopper quotes goods in as little as 30 minutes.
  • Mjam now trades under the foodora name, and its imprint says Delivery Hero SE holds 100% of Foodora Austria GmbH.
  • Karma sells discounted surplus food and restaurant software, and its pages describe no courier delivery.

European food delivery apps are ordering platforms for restaurant meals, groceries and local-shop goods, run by companies with a named legal entity inside Europe, so that your address, phone number and order history sit with a contract partner you can find in a national register.

#12 Karma

Stockholm, Sweden Prices are not shown on the pages we read. Demo on request

Best for: Diners who want discounted surplus food and restaurants that want a European ordering system

  • Operating company. Karmalicious AB
  • Jurisdiction. EU (Sweden)
  • Where the data sits. Not stated on the pages we read
  • Source code. Closed source
  • Replaces. DoorDash (pickup and discounted food)

Karma is provided by Karmalicious AB, whose privacy policy gives Mailbox 163, 111 73 Stockholm, organisation number 559020-0050. The service began as a way to buy takeaway food from restaurants, cafes and bakeries, and the merchant terms describe Karma Save as a way to sell surplus food at discounted prices.

Karma now promotes Karma OS, a suite with POS, ordering by website or QR code, kitchen display, loyalty, kiosks, analytics, table booking and an AI voice assistant. The merchant terms follow Swedish law with arbitration at the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce. Courier delivery is not described, prices are not shown, and consumer coverage is unclear.

What Karma does well

  • Swedish AB with organisation and VAT numbers
  • Surplus food service
  • Restaurant software suite
  • Swedish law and named arbitration
  • Recent funding stated

Where Karma falls short

  • No courier delivery described
  • Mostly aimed at merchants
  • No prices shown
  • Consumer coverage unclear

Standout feature. Karma is the only entry that pairs a surplus-food marketplace with a full restaurant software suite.

Which food delivery app should I use instead of DoorDash in Europe?

Start from the country and the errand, because the twelve tools here are tied to markets. Lieferando fits Germany, Thuisbezorgd the Netherlands, Pyszne.pl Poland and Mjam Austria for restaurant food. Picnic, Knuspr, Oda and Crisp take the grocery shop, and Snappy Shopper handles local-store orders in the UK.

Bolt Food is the exception to the national pattern: its homepage lists most EU states, but the pages we read do not say which cities have food delivery. Frichti covers Paris and the inner suburbs only. Karma suits pickup of discounted food rather than a courier order.

We could not read DoorDash's own pages, so the comparison rests on the European sides. The Deliveroo privacy policy says Deliveroo is now part of the DoorDash, Inc. group, which is one reason some Europeans look beyond that family of apps.

Are European food delivery apps cheaper than the US ones?

The pages we read do not allow that conclusion. Lieferando, Thuisbezorgd, Pyszne.pl, Mjam, Bolt Food, Frichti and Crisp print no fees at all, so the real price shows up at checkout. Compare one identical order in two apps before you decide.

Some written promises do exist. Lieferando and Thuisbezorgd say you pay the same at home as in the restaurant, Picnic says delivery is always free, and Knuspr states free delivery plus a first order without delivery cost. Oda offers three free months to new customers who order often.

Knuspr also publishes a basket of everyday products at 66,93 EUR against 70,02 EUR at REWE and 69,70 EUR at EDEKA, dated 28.10.26. That figure comes from Knuspr itself and we did not test it.

Does a European delivery app keep my data in Europe?

A European company name tells you who the contract is with, not where the servers stand. For none of the twelve tools do the pages we read state the hosting location. The Lieferando statement mentions transfers to countries without an adequate level of protection, and the Picnic statement has a section on use of data outside Europe.

The controller is the better test. Oda Norway AS is the controller in its own privacy statement, Crisp B.V. in Amsterdam for Crisp, Karmalicious AB in Stockholm for Karma. The three Takeaway.com marketplaces name Takeaway.com Group B.V., a Dutch group entity, rather than the local operator.

The United Kingdom needs a separate note for Snappy Shopper: it relies on an adequacy decision and sits outside the EEA. Norway, where Oda operates, is in the EEA but not the EU.

Which food delivery apps in Europe are owned by Prosus or Delivery Hero?

Three of the marketplaces sit in the Takeaway.com group. The Just Eat Takeaway.com corporate pages say Prosus acquired and took the company private in 2025, and the pages we read do not give the domicile of Prosus or its controlling shareholders. That open point applies to Lieferando, Thuisbezorgd and Pyszne.pl.

Mjam is a different case. The foodora imprint states that Foodora Austria GmbH is a member of the Delivery Hero group, with Delivery Hero SE holding 100%. The pages we read give no headquarters for Delivery Hero SE.

Picnic, Knuspr, Oda, Snappy Shopper, Frichti, Crisp and Karma do not name their shareholders on the pages we read. Bolt Food does not state its ownership either.

When should I not switch away from my current delivery app?

Keep your current app if none of the European services covers your postcode. Pyszne.pl, Thuisbezorgd and Lieferando each serve one country, Frichti only the Paris region, and Snappy Shopper only works where a local store has joined. A delivery app that cannot reach you is worth nothing.

Also keep it when you depend on something the European side does not show. Subscription plans and a very wide retail range are not mirrored on the pages we read, and Karma offers no courier at all. Run one trial order in the new app before you delete the old account.

What changes when I move from a restaurant marketplace to a grocery service?

The rhythm changes. Picnic, Oda and Knuspr work on planned deliveries, Knuspr from three hours and Oda for customers ordering every other week, while the restaurant marketplaces answer to the evening rush. Oda and Crisp also cover bottle returns and advertising choices in their terms, which a marketplace does not.

The range changes as well. Knuspr lists an organic range with a control number and own brands, Picnic sells meals under Picnic Kookt, and Crisp carries a customer rating of 4,9 in its footer that is the vendor's own figure. None of the four lists third-party restaurants.

How we selected and ranked these 12 tools

Every tool on this page is in the European Purpose directory, which means the operating company is established in Europe and we have verified that from the company register or the vendor's own legal notice rather than from a marketing page. Tools headquartered outside Europe are not eligible, however good they are.

  1. Feature verification (weight: 40%). We check each capability against the vendor's own documentation and product pages, and record what the tool does rather than what the category is assumed to include.
  2. Ease of adoption (weight: 30%). Integrations, published API access, trial availability and how much configuration stands between signing and a usable result.
  3. Value and transparency (weight: 30%). Published pricing counts in a vendor's favour; quote-only pricing is recorded as quote-only rather than estimated. We weigh what a buyer gets for the entry price, not the headline feature count.
  4. Editorial review. Every page is researched and drafted with AI assistance, and the compliance and pricing claims are checked against the vendor's documentation before it is published under the founder's editorial responsibility. The three weights above decide the order; a position is a ranking against the other European tools in this category, not an absolute score.

Vendor-reported outcomes — ROI figures, margin uplift, time saved — are labelled as vendor claims wherever they appear on this page. We have not audited them, and neither has anyone else who quotes them. Read our full editorial process for how pages are re-verified.

Frequently asked questions

No single app wins everywhere, because each one is tied to a few countries. Lieferando leads on venue count at 35.000+ places in Germany, Thuisbezorgd lists 13.000+ in the Netherlands and Pyszne.pl 14 000+ in Poland. For groceries, Picnic, Knuspr, Oda and Crisp are the main picks, and Frichti suits Paris.

Lieferando, operated by yd. yourdelivery GmbH in Berlin, is the marketplace for restaurant and shop orders in Germany. Knuspr covers groceries, and Bolt Food may be available in some cities. Check your postcode in each app, because coverage is shown only after you enter an address.

Picnic operates in the Netherlands, Germany and France with separate local companies, and Bolt Food lists most EU states on its main page. Crisp serves the Netherlands and Belgium. The three Takeaway.com marketplaces use different national brands, so one account does not carry across borders.

Lieferando, Thuisbezorgd and Pyszne.pl all list payment online or in cash. Pyszne.pl also names PayU, PayPal, Sofort and Android Pay through Adyen as its online payment operators. The other tools in this category do not describe cash payment on the pages we read.

Karma, run by Karmalicious AB in Stockholm, lets merchants sell surplus food at discounted prices through Karma Save. Its pages describe pickup rather than courier delivery. Consumer country coverage is not listed, so confirm that partners exist in your city before relying on it.

According to their own pages, Frichti averages 15 minutes in Paris and the inner suburbs, and Snappy Shopper quotes delivery in as little as 30 minutes from a local shop. Knuspr delivers from three hours. The restaurant marketplaces do not publish a delivery time on the pages we read.
