European Alternatives to Similarweb
Looking for a European alternative to Similarweb? Similarweb Ltd. is a Tel Aviv company whose terms are governed by the laws of Israel, with the courts of Tel Aviv-Yaffo as the exclusive venue, and Israel is outside the EU and the EEA.
Eleven European tools cover the competitor-research side of the job, from search visibility, keywords, rankings and backlinks, with contracting companies in Germany, Slovakia, France, the United Kingdom, Romania and Sweden. None reproduces its panel-based traffic estimates.
How we rank these tools — 4-step process
-
1
European ownership, verified
The company is headquartered and incorporated in the EU, EEA or Switzerland, and processes customer data in Europe. A US parent company disqualifies a tool from this page regardless of where its servers are.
-
2
Category fit and hands-on review
What the tool actually does, who it suits, and where it falls short — checked against the vendor’s own documentation, changelog and pricing page rather than its marketing copy.
-
3
Compliance and pricing check
GDPR posture, hosting location and the prices quoted on this page are verified against the vendor’s public pricing before publication, and re-checked when we revisit the category.
-
4
Position on this page
Placement on this page can be paid, and that can affect which tools appear here and the order they appear in. It never buys a good review: a tool that fails the checks above is not here at any price, and payment does not change the shortcomings we write about. A vendor can ask us to correct a factual error — not to remove a criticism.
Vendors can pay for visibility on this page. It never changes what an entry says about a product, including the criticism, and we earn nothing when you click through to a vendor. Paid placement can affect which tools appear here and the order they appear in. Editorial policy

Key takeaways
- Similarweb Ltd. is a Tel Aviv company with Israeli governing law and exclusive jurisdiction in Tel Aviv-Yaffo, and its pricing page shows no amounts.
- None of the eleven European tools offers Similarweb-style traffic estimates. They cover search visibility, keywords, rankings and backlinks.
- Sistrix (Bonn) is the closest in spirit for market research: its Visibility Index tracks how a site and its competitors rank on Google, with public prices from €119 a month and a 14-day trial.
- Seobility (Nuremberg) has a free plan, Haloscan (Nice) has a free plan for the French market, and Seobility, Sistrix and Babbar publish euro prices.
- Majestic and cognitiveSEO are the ones to look at if links are the question, and Advanced Web Ranking and Wincher if you mainly track rankings.
Why people leave Similarweb
Similarweb is the tool people reach for to see how much traffic a competitor gets and where it comes from.
You type in a domain and get estimates of visits, sources, keywords and audience, with data going back up to 37 months across 100+ countries, according to its pricing page. It has a free tier that shows "a high-level sample", a free trial, and paid packages that its pricing page does not put a number on: business customers are sent to sales for a custom package.
It is run by Similarweb Ltd. in Tel Aviv. The terms name Similarweb Ltd. "and/or, where applicable, one of its group companies or affiliates" as your counterpart, are governed by the laws of the State of Israel, and give the courts of Tel Aviv-Yaffo exclusive jurisdiction. Israel is not in the EU or the EEA. That is a contract fact, not a verdict on the product.
Be clear about the trade first. Similarweb sells traffic estimates for any site. None of the eleven European tools here does exactly that. They cover the other half of competitor research: search visibility, keywords, rankings, backlinks and site health. If you mainly need to see how many visits a rival gets, these tools will not replace that, and the page says so for each one.
- The contract sits in Israel, with Israeli law and courts The terms are governed by Israeli law and send disputes exclusively to the courts in Tel Aviv-Yaffo. A European business that wants a contracting party and a court in its own region will not find that with Similarweb. Every tool on this page contracts through a company in Germany, Slovakia, France, the United Kingdom, Romania or Sweden.
- The price is a conversation with sales Similarweb's own pricing page shows no amounts: it offers custom enterprise plans, self-service packages and a free trial, and asks business customers to contact sales. Several European tools publish their prices in euros (Sistrix, Seobility, Babbar), which makes a budget decision possible before any call.
- You may only need the search half Many teams buy Similarweb to answer SEO questions: who ranks for what, who links to whom, how visibility moves over time. The European tools here are built for exactly that, and they are usually priced for that one job instead of a full market-intelligence product.
- Different data, different promises Similarweb's numbers are estimates of traffic. The tools here measure rankings, visibility and links that they can observe from search results and the web itself. The two answer different questions, and mixing them up is how people end up disappointed after switching.
What you have to replace, not just match
Write down the three questions you actually ask Similarweb. "How much traffic does this competitor get" has no equivalent here. "Which keywords do they rank for", "how has their search visibility moved" and "who links to them" do, and several tools answer them well. If only the first matters, keep Similarweb or accept a rougher answer.
Run a trial on a competitor you already know well, and compare what the tool says against your own analytics and Search Console. Tools disagree with each other, and the useful test is whether the direction and the ranking of competitors match what you see.

How each alternative compares to Similarweb
- Which law reaches it. EU (Germany). Similarweb is operated from Israel, outside the EU and without an adequacy decision, so transfers rest on contractual safeguards rather than on the data staying inside the EEA.
- Where the data sits. Germany.
- Source code. Closed source, as Similarweb is.
Best for: SEO teams and agencies that track how competitors rank on Google over time
Sistrix is run by SISTRIX GmbH in Bonn (Amtsgericht Bonn, HRB 13993). Its terms page was not reachable, so this page does not state the governing law.
The Visibility Index is its signature: a metric that shows how a site and its competitors rank on Google, daily, monthly or over years. It also covers Amazon and social platforms and lists markets including Germany, the UK, Spain, Italy and France.
Prices are public: START at €119, PLUS at €239, PROFESSIONAL at €419 and PREMIUM at €799 a month, with a 14-day free trial and month-to-month cancellation. PLUS adds five-year data history, PROFESSIONAL eleven-year history and API access.
What Sistrix does better than Similarweb
- A German contracting company in a register, where Similarweb is a Tel Aviv company under Israeli law
- Published euro prices with a clear trial
- Long search-visibility history for competitors
- Month-to-month cancellation on every standard plan
Where Sistrix is a step down from Similarweb
- No panel-based traffic estimates
- Starts at €119 a month, more than several tools here
- Strongest in Google search; direct and social traffic are not covered
- Governing law could not be checked
Standout against Similarweb. The Visibility Index gives you a single comparable number for any domain over many years.
Best for: Small businesses and freelancers who want audits, rankings and backlinks in one place
Seobility is run by seobility GmbH in Nuremberg (Amtsgericht Nürnberg, HRB 26545). Its terms apply German law exclusively, with Nuremberg as the exclusive venue (section 16).
It has a free Basic plan (1 project, 10 keywords, 100 pages per crawl) and three paid ones: Premium at €59.90, Professional at €99.90 and Agency at €209.90 a month, each with a 14-day trial. All plans include website audits, ranking monitoring and backlink analysis, and the paid ones add AI visibility prompts.
It is built for watching your own site more than for studying other people's, so competitor research is lighter than in Sistrix.
What Seobility does better than Similarweb
- A free plan that does not expire
- Public euro prices, with a monthly or annual choice
- German law, with a venue in Germany
- Audits, rankings and backlinks in one subscription
Where Seobility is a step down from Similarweb
- Free plan is tiny (10 keywords)
- Competitor analysis is not its centre
- No traffic estimates
- Cheaper plans cap projects and keywords
Standout against Similarweb. It pairs a permanent free plan with public euro prices for the paid plans.
- Which law reaches it. EU (Slovakia). Similarweb is operated from Israel, outside the EU and without an adequacy decision, so transfers rest on contractual safeguards rather than on the data staying inside the EEA.
- Where the data sits. EU.
- Source code. Closed source, as Similarweb is.
Best for: Freelancers who want keyword research, SERP analysis and rank tracking at low cost
Mangools is run by CodeCat s.r.o. in Bratislava (Obchodna 2), according to its privacy policy. Its terms page could not be fetched, so the governing law is not stated here.
The suite has KWFinder for keywords, SERPChecker for SERP analysis, SERPWatcher for rank tracking, LinkMiner for backlinks and SiteProfiler for site metrics. It claims more than 2.5 billion keywords and a backlink database of 9.5 trillion links, and weekly rank tracking (daily on the Agency plan). Several small tools are free without signing up.
The pricing page is not readable as text, so no amount is quoted here. Traffic estimates were not shown on the page we read.
What Mangools does better than Similarweb
- Five tools in one subscription, each with a narrow purpose
- Free tools with no sign-up
- Slovak company, not an Israeli one
- Easy to learn for one-person teams
Where Mangools is a step down from Similarweb
- Price could not be checked
- Governing law could not be checked
- No panel-based traffic estimates
- Weekly rank tracking on lower plans
Standout against Similarweb. It splits SEO into five small tools that each do one job and are easy to learn.
- Which law reaches it. EU (Germany). Similarweb is operated from Israel, outside the EU and without an adequacy decision, so transfers rest on contractual safeguards rather than on the data staying inside the EEA.
- Source code. Closed source, as Similarweb is.
Best for: Agencies that monitor many sites and competitors at once
XOVI is run by XOVI GmbH in Cologne (Amtsgericht Köln, HRB 71611). The service is governed by German law with Cologne as the exclusive venue. The company is part of the WebPros group.
Its pricing page lists three plans with unlimited projects and competitor websites, a JavaScript crawler, weekly link updates and keyword monitoring across more than 196 countries, with 14 days free for its AI visibility add-on. Prices are shown in US dollars, so none is quoted here.

What XOVI does better than Similarweb
- Unlimited competitor sites on every plan
- German contracting company, German law, Cologne venue
- Wide country coverage for monitoring
- Crawler and monitoring in the same suite
Where XOVI is a step down from Similarweb

Standout against Similarweb. Unlimited competitor websites on every plan, per its own pricing page.
Haloscan
a free competitor and keyword tool for the French market
Best for: Teams researching French-language competitors who want a free start
Haloscan is run by ARCHI301 in Nice (RCS 950 897 371), under French law with the courts of Nice. Hosting is with OVH in Roubaix. Billing runs through FastSpring, a US company that acts as the reseller, which is a payment-side dependency to know about.
It offers a Keyword Explorer, a Site Explorer with keyword rankings, traffic estimates and competitor comparison, position tracking and an expired domain finder. The database is more than 190 million keywords and, by its own account, French market data only.
It has a free plan with limited searches (no card), and three paid plans in US dollars, so no amount is quoted here. All paid plans include API access and competitor analysis.

Where Haloscan is a step down from Similarweb
- French market only

Ranktracker
an all-in-one suite with competitor tracking, from London
Best for: Small teams that want keywords, SERPs, audits and backlinks under one login
Ranktracker is run by Ranktracker Ltd in London (company number 08820809). Its terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, with the courts of England and Wales as the exclusive venue. The UK is outside the EU but is a European jurisdiction with its own company register.
Every plan includes rank tracking across Google, Bing, Yahoo and Yandex, a keyword database of more than 3.5 billion keywords, SERP analysis, backlink monitoring and website audits. Plans differ in keywords, data rows and the number of competitors per project (5 to 50). There is a 7-day free trial with no payment details.
Prices are shown in US dollars on its page, so no amount is quoted here.
What Ranktracker does better than Similarweb
- Every feature included on every plan, with limits as the difference
- Competitor tracking built into the plan structure
- 7-day trial without a card
- Registered company in the UK, not Israel
Where Ranktracker is a step down from Similarweb
- UK, not EU or EEA
- Dollar prices and a no-refund promotion on the page
- No traffic estimates
- Less depth than Sistrix on visibility history
Standout against Similarweb. It puts competitor limits (5 to 50 per project) right in the plan, so it is clear what you pay for.
- Which law reaches it. EU (Romania). Similarweb is operated from Israel, outside the EU and without an adequacy decision, so transfers rest on contractual safeguards rather than on the data staying inside the EEA.
- Source code. Closed source, as Similarweb is.
Best for: Link builders and agencies who study why competitors rank
cognitiveSEO is run by GESKIMO SRL in Iasi, Romania (J22/1412/2005). Its terms are under Romanian law, with the company keeping the option to bring proceedings in the courts of the country where you live.
The suite covers backlink analysis, a rank tracker across desktop, mobile and local search, content optimisation, a site audit and penalty recovery, and its page mentions competitor analysis and social visibility monitoring. There is a 7-day free trial, and its page lists paid plans in US dollars, so no amount is quoted here.
It expects some SEO knowledge: its own page says it needs at least a medium understanding of SEO.
What cognitiveSEO does better than Similarweb
- Backlink and competitor link analysis as a main feature
- Romanian company, under Romanian law
- 7-day free trial and cancel anytime
- Rank tracker and content tools in the same suite
Where cognitiveSEO is a step down from Similarweb
- Steeper learning curve than simpler tools

- No traffic estimates
- No permanent free plan
Standout against Similarweb. Its centre of gravity is understanding competitor link profiles, not generic reporting.
- Which law reaches it. EU (Romania). Similarweb is operated from Israel, outside the EU and without an adequacy decision, so transfers rest on contractual safeguards rather than on the data staying inside the EEA.
- Where the data sits. EU.
- Source code. Closed source, as Similarweb is.
Best for: Agencies that report rankings to many clients
Advanced Web Ranking is run by Caphyon S.R.L. in Craiova, Romania. Its terms refer to "the laws and jurisdiction of the defending party" for disputes, which is less specific than a fixed court, and they promise a full refund within 30 days of subscription, minus bank costs.
The tool tracks local, mobile and desktop rankings across more than 4,000 search engines, SERP features, sponsored results and keyword cannibalisation, with white-label reporting on Agency and above, and a free trial. Prices are in US dollars, so no amount is quoted here.
It is a rank tracker and reporting platform. It is not a research tool for studying competitor traffic.
What Advanced Web Ranking does better than Similarweb
- 30-day full refund (minus bank costs) in the terms
- Depth of rank tracking, with SERP features
- White-label reporting for agencies
- Romanian company in the EU
Where Advanced Web Ranking is a step down from Similarweb
- Dollar prices, with a high entry point for small users
- Little competitor research beyond rankings
- No traffic estimates
- Dispute venue is the defendant's, not a fixed court
Standout against Similarweb. Agency reporting and tracking depth, with a refund promise in the terms.
- Which law reaches it. United Kingdom (adequacy decision, outside the EEA). Similarweb is operated from Israel, outside the EU and without an adequacy decision, so transfers rest on contractual safeguards rather than on the data staying inside the EEA.

- A very large and long-running link index

Where Majestic is a step down from Similarweb
- Links only, with nothing on keywords or rankings

Standout against Similarweb. It does one thing, links, with the longest history of any tool on this page.
Wincher
a simple rank tracker with competitor comparison, from Stockholm
Best for: Small teams that want to see how their positions compare with a few competitors
Wincher is run by Wincher International AB in Stockholm (Roslagsgatan 26 A). The governing law and venue were not in the part of the terms we could read, so they are not stated here.
It is a rank tracking product with dashboards that compare your positions with competitors over time, keyword gap analysis, and free tools such as an on-page checker and a SERP volatility tracker. Plans are Starter (from 500 keywords, up to 10 websites), Professional (from 1,000) and Enterprise (from 5,000), with a 7-day free trial of Pro.
The page we read does not show amounts, so no price is quoted.
What Wincher does better than Similarweb

- Swedish company, not Israeli
- Keyword gap and competitor comparison in a rank tracker
Where Wincher is a step down from Similarweb

Standout against Similarweb. Competitor position comparison and keyword gap, wrapped in a plain rank tracker.

- Source code. Closed source, as Similarweb is.
Best for: SEOs who evaluate link quality and topical relevance before they buy links
Babbar is run by BABBAR SAS in Évreux (RCS Évreux 879 721 942). Its terms are under French law with the competent courts, an attempt at amicable resolution first, and consumer mediation for non-professionals. Its terms name ONLINE SAS in Paris as the hosting provider.
It offers the Babbar Authority Score, popularity and trust metrics, topical analysis, backlink analysis of competitors' link strategies and semantic suggestions for similar sites. The SEO plan is €139 a month excluding VAT (€1,529 a year), and a plan with API access is €250 a month.
No permanent free plan is mentioned, and a free trial is referenced without details.
What Babbar does better than Similarweb
- Euro prices in plain text, with VAT stated
- Hosting named in the terms, in France
- Semantic and topical analysis alongside links
- French law, with consumer mediation for non-professionals
Where Babbar is a step down from Similarweb
- No free plan, and no trial details
- Narrower than the SEO suites
- Not a rank tracker, and no traffic estimates
- Small compared with Majestic's index
Standout against Similarweb. It scores links by topic and trust, not only by volume.
What actually breaks when you switch
The biggest loss is the traffic estimates. Similarweb's estimates of visits, sources and audience have no equivalent in the European tools here, and nothing you export from Similarweb can be loaded into them. Decide whether you can work with search visibility and rankings instead.
Plan for new baselines. Rankings, visibility indexes and link metrics come from different crawlers and different keyword sets, so numbers will not match Similarweb or each other. Compare trends over time, not single figures.
Several of these show prices in US dollars or not at all in text, so confirm the euro price, the VAT treatment and the renewal terms on the vendor's own page before you commit. Where the governing law was not readable (Sistrix, Mangools, Wincher), check the terms.
Is there a European tool that estimates a competitor's traffic like Similarweb?
Not with the same panel-based estimates of visits, sources and audience. The closest in practice is search visibility. Sistrix's Visibility Index shows how a domain and its competitors rank on Google over time, and Haloscan's Site Explorer shows ranked keywords and traffic estimates for the French market.
Those numbers describe search performance. They say nothing about direct, social or email traffic, which is a large part of what Similarweb is bought for.
Which of these can I try for free?
Seobility has a free Basic plan with one project and 10 keywords, and Haloscan has a free plan with no card. Sistrix gives 14 days free, Seobility's paid plans have a 14-day trial, Ranktracker and Wincher offer 7 days, cognitiveSEO 7 days, and Advanced Web Ranking says it has a free trial and a 30-day money-back guarantee.
Mangools offers a set of free tools that need no sign-up, and Majestic shows free demonstration data on rotating websites. Babbar and XOVI describe no permanent free plan on the pages checked.
Which tools publish their prices?
Sistrix lists €119, €239, €419 and €799 a month. Seobility lists Premium at €59.90, Professional at €99.90 and Agency at €209.90 a month. Babbar lists its SEO plan at €139 a month excluding VAT. The others show prices in US dollars, behind a login or not in text we could read, so this page does not quote them.
Always check the current price on the vendor's own page. Trials, annual discounts and currency can change what you actually pay.
Does the contract really matter for a research tool?
It matters less than for a tool that stores customer data, but you still hand over your domains, your projects and sometimes your Search Console data. With Similarweb the counterpart can be a group company and the law is Israeli. With the tools here it is a company in the EU, the UK or Sweden, usually under local law.
For several of them the governing law could not be read on the pages checked (Sistrix, Mangools, Wincher), and Advanced Web Ranking uses the law of the defending party. Check the terms before you sign if it matters.
Which one to pick
If your competitor research is mainly about Google, start with Sistrix: it is the most complete on visibility over time and publishes its euro prices. If you want a low-cost start, Seobility has a permanent free plan, and Mangools is the one for freelancers who want keywords and SERPs in one subscription.
If links are your question, look at Majestic, cognitiveSEO and Babbar. If you mainly report rankings, look at Advanced Web Ranking or Wincher, and if you research French-language competitors, try the free plan at Haloscan. XOVI and Ranktracker are broader suites with competitor tracking built into the plans.
Be realistic about the gap. None of the eleven estimates the traffic a competitor gets from all channels the way Similarweb does. Switch if your contract needs to sit with a company in Europe and your questions are search questions, and keep Similarweb, or a trial of it, if the traffic numbers are the reason you bought it.
Frequently Asked Questions
It depends on the question. For competitor search visibility over time, Sistrix is the most complete, with a 14-day trial and public prices. For an affordable all-rounder with a free plan, look at Seobility. Mangools suits freelancers who want keywords, SERPs and rankings in one subscription. None of them estimates traffic the way Similarweb does.
No. Similarweb Ltd. is based at 121 Menachem Begin Road in Tel Aviv, Israel. Its terms are governed by Israeli law, with exclusive jurisdiction in the courts of Tel Aviv-Yaffo, and Israel is neither in the EU nor in the EEA.
Its pricing page shows no amounts. It describes custom enterprise plans, self-service packages for smaller teams, a free trial and limited free data. To get a number you start a trial or contact sales.
Sistrix lists START at €119, PLUS at €239, PROFESSIONAL at €419 and PREMIUM at €799 a month, with a 14-day trial. Seobility lists a free Basic plan, then Premium at €59.90, Professional at €99.90 and Agency at €209.90 a month, with VAT depending on the customer. Babbar lists its SEO plan at €139 a month excluding VAT, or €1,529 a year, and a plan with API access at €250 a month.
Majestic is built around its link index, with Trust Flow and Citation Flow, a Fresh Index and a Historic Index going back to 2006, and a bulk checker. cognitiveSEO centres on backlink and competitor link analysis, and Babbar offers its own Authority Score and semantic analysis. Seobility, Mangools (LinkMiner) and Ranktracker include link tools as part of a wider suite.
Advanced Web Ranking and Wincher are focused on it. AWR describes support for more than 4,000 search engines, SERP feature analysis and agency reporting. Wincher adds competitor comparison and keyword gap analysis. Mangools' SERPWatcher and Ranktracker also track rankings, and Seobility includes ranking monitoring in all plans.
By its own account it specialises in French market data and has more than 190 million keywords. If your competitors are French-speaking, it is a good free place to start. For other markets, Sistrix covers Germany, the UK, Spain, Italy and France, and the others have broader keyword databases.
The contracting company is XOVI GmbH in Cologne (Amtsgericht Köln, HRB 71611), and its terms for the service are under German law with Cologne as the exclusive venue. It is part of the WebPros group, whose general terms point to Swiss law, but the XOVI annex says it supersedes that for this service.
Yes. Several well-known names are not European in practice: Semrush is American, SE Ranking contracts through a London company and a Delaware company under Californian law, Serpstat is a Delaware company, Searchmetrics now redirects to Conductor, and Ryte was bought by Semrush in 2024. They are not listed here because the contracting party is not European.
No. The tools here measure different things from different sources, so there is nothing to import. You start fresh with your own list of competitors and keywords. Keep exports of the reports you need from Similarweb before you cancel, and expect new baselines in the new tool.
