European Alternatives to Hipcamp

Looking for a European alternative to Hipcamp? The Hipcamp privacy policy names Hipcamp, Inc. as the operator, and the Hipcamp terms of use list Hipcamp, Inc., Hipcamp UK Ltd, Hipcamp Canada, Inc. and Hipcamp AUS Pty Ltd as the group companies. The main terms apply to users outside the EEA, Switzerland and the UK and contain an arbitration agreement, while European users are pointed to a separate set of terms.

The European camping booking platforms below name contracting entities in the Netherlands, Germany, France and the United Kingdom, and cover private spots, campsite portals, motorhome networks and operator-run parks.

How we rank these tools — 4-step process
  1. 1
    European ownership, verified

The company is headquartered and incorporated in the EU, EEA, the UK, Switzerland or Israel, and processes customer data in Europe or Israel. A US parent company disqualifies a tool from this page regardless of where its servers are.

  2. 2
    Category fit and hands-on review

What the tool actually does, who it suits, and where it falls short — checked against the vendor’s own documentation, changelog and pricing page rather than its marketing copy.

  3. 3
    Compliance and pricing check

GDPR posture, hosting location and the prices quoted on this page are verified against the vendor’s public pricing before publication, and re-checked when we revisit the category.

  4. 4
    Position on this page

Placement on this page can be paid, and that can affect which tools appear here and the order they appear in. It never buys a good review: a tool that fails the checks above is not here at any price, and payment does not change the shortcomings we write about. A vendor can ask us to correct a factual error — not to remove a criticism.

Vendors can pay for visibility on this page. It never changes what an entry says about a product, including the criticism, and we earn nothing when you click through to a vendor. Vendors can pay for more visibility, higher up on the review pages; it never affects which tools are listed. Editorial policy

Key takeaways

  • Hipcamp, Inc. is the data controller in the Hipcamp privacy policy, which says the platform is operated from the United States and that users abroad consent to transfer by using it.
  • The main Hipcamp terms of use, last updated on 26 March 2026, contain an arbitration agreement and apply outside the EEA, Switzerland and the UK, while Europeans are pointed to separate terms.
  • Campspace B.V. in Haarlem is the only tool on this page that lists private tent, van and glamping spots and takes payment on the platform; it adds 3 EUR plus 17% to the host price.
  • park4night, Camping.info and PiNCAMP are discovery tools: park4night is a free community map, and Camping.info states that direct online booking through it is not possible.
  • Eurocamp, Capfun, Sunelia, Siblu and Huttopia sell stays at their own or partner sites, so they replace the booking step of Hipcamp but not its private land.

Why people leave Hipcamp

Hipcamp is a booking marketplace for campsites, glamping pods, cabins and caravan pitches, run by Hipcamp, Inc. in the United States. Its British homepage advertises more than 1,000 sites that a visitor will not find elsewhere, plus maps, reviews and an app. Landowners list a field, a farm corner or a lakeside plot, and campers book it directly on the platform.

The legal setup is where European users start to hesitate. The privacy policy names Hipcamp, Inc. as the data controller and says the platform is operated from the United States. Section 10 tells anyone outside the US that their data will be transferred to and processed in the United States, and that using the platform counts as consent to that transfer. The policy we read was last updated on 26 July 2024.

The terms of use, last updated on 26 March 2026, list Hipcamp, Inc., Hipcamp UK Ltd, Hipcamp Canada, Inc. and Hipcamp AUS Pty Ltd as the group. The main version applies outside the EEA, Switzerland and the UK and contains an arbitration clause. Europeans are sent to a second set of terms, which we did not read. Many visitors compare options for a simpler reason, though: the stay they want is not in the catalogue.

  • The privacy policy is built around the United States Hipcamp, Inc. says in its privacy policy that it operates the platform from the United States and that data from users abroad is transferred there and may be stored in further countries. The wording asks for consent by use. A European operator contracting under EU law handles the same data under GDPR with a supervisory authority in the same legal system as the camper.
  • Disputes under the main terms go to arbitration The main Hipcamp terms contain an arbitration agreement and a waiver of class or representative actions, and they apply to users outside the EEA, Switzerland and the UK. European users are pointed to separate terms that we did not read, so we cannot say what they contain. If you book from a European country, check which set of terms your account is under before you accept it.
  • Private land is a small slice of what European campers buy The Hipcamp UK homepage groups its sites under farm stays and beach, riverside and woodland camping. Much European camping, however, happens at inspected campsites, parc holiday sites and motorhome stopovers. Portals such as Camping.info and PiNCAMP list thousands of those, and the Hipcamp pages we read do not present it as a directory of them.
  • A credit scheme and tax clauses that sit in US-style documents Hipcamp runs its own credit scheme, Hipcash, which has a separate terms document, and the main terms contain sales-tax clauses that make hosts responsible for tax they have not remitted. European platforms on this page quote euros and print a VAT or register number in the imprint. Check each one for its exact fee, since several of the tools below did not publish prices.

What you have to replace, not just match

Hipcamp is a single product, but it covers three jobs that European tools split up. It finds private spots, it handles the booking and payment, and it lets landowners advertise. No one European name does all three at the scale Hipcamp claims, so decide which job matters before you swap.

For private land with in-platform booking, Campspace from Haarlem is the nearest match. For finding a place to park a van overnight, park4night is a community map. For comparing established campsites, Camping.info and PiNCAMP act as portals, and ACSI publishes inspected guides. For package stays, Eurocamp, Capfun, Sunelia, Siblu and Huttopia sell their own sites.

What you have to replace is also data: your Hipcamp account, saved places, past bookings and any Hipcash balance. We saw no tool on this page that imports a Hipcamp wishlist. Plan to screenshot your favourites, note the host names, and ask each host whether they also list on a European platform. Hosts who earn money from camping may want to read the hosting terms of each one first.

How each alternative compares to Hipcamp

#1

Campspace

the closest match for booking private land in Europe

Haarlem, NetherlandsThe host sets the price. The FAQ says Campspace adds a fixed fee of 3 EUR and a commission of 17% to the host price. Prices are in EUR, with Danish spots in DKK.#1 in Camping Booking Platforms

Best for: Campers leaving Hipcamp who still want farm, garden and field spots paid for on the platform

Campspace B.V. runs a platform where hosts offer tent pitches, van spots, cabins, treehouses and glamping, with instant booking or booking on request. The terms give a Haarlem address and a Dutch Chamber of Commerce number. Of everything on this page, this is the one that behaves like Hipcamp: a host lists land, a guest pays inside the platform.

The fee structure is stated openly in the FAQ: the guest pays the host price plus 3 EUR and 17%. Payments pass through Buckaroo for European methods and through Nuvei and Stripe for global ones, and the pages do not say where those process data. If a host ignores a request, the FAQ promises a full refund within 48 hours. The about page cites 75,000 spots after a merger with HomeCamper.

What Campspace does better than Hipcamp

  • Names a Dutch B.V. as the contracting company, where Hipcamp, Inc. points European users to separate terms
  • States the guest fee as 3 EUR plus 17% in its FAQ
  • Quotes prices in euros, with Danish spots in DKK
  • Promises a refund within 48 hours when a host does not answer

Where Campspace is a step down from Hipcamp

  • The combined fee is high, and the final price sits above the listing
  • Hosting location and the owner after the HomeCamper merger are not stated
  • Global payments run through Nuvei and Stripe, which are not European

Standout against Hipcamp. Campspace is the only tool here where a landowner and a guest can transact on a Dutch platform.

park4night

a free community map for overnight stops, not a booking site

Saint-Peray, FranceFree to browse and use, according to the homepage. Some features need the park4night+ version; the subscription price is not shown on the pages we read. Shop prices are in euros including taxes.#2 in Camping Booking Platforms

Best for: Van and motorhome travellers who care more about finding a spot than reserving one

AppMobilEdition SAS publishes park4night from Saint-Peray in France and names OVH in Roubaix as host in its legal notice. The homepage counts more than 400,000 places and describes three steps: find a place, navigate to it, then leave a comment or edit the entry. Users supply the content.

Against Hipcamp, that is a different job. The pages we read describe no stay booking or payment, so nobody takes your deposit or arbitrates a cancelled night. In exchange, the app costs nothing to browse, and the privacy policy lists how long account and shop data are kept. Some features sit behind park4night+, and its price was not visible.

What park4night does better than Hipcamp

  • Free to use, according to the homepage, with no stay to pay for through the app
  • Names a French host and publishes retention periods in a table
  • Covers roadside and aire-style stops that a private-land marketplace skips

Where park4night is a step down from Hipcamp

  • No booking or payment, so you arrive without a reservation
  • Entries are written by users and need checking before a trip
  • The price of park4night+ is not shown

Standout against Hipcamp. park4night is the only entry here built around a map of 400,000 places edited by its own users.

Camping.info

a Berlin campsite portal that sends the booking to the campsite

Berlin, GermanyFree for campers. The homepage shows from-prices per night, for example from 20.00 EUR for Bravoplaya Camping in Ribera de Cabanes and from 55.10 EUR for a campsite on Fehmarn.#3 in Camping Booking Platforms

Best for: Campers comparing established European campsites by place, date and accommodation type

Camping.info GmbH, registered at Amtsgericht Charlottenburg, shows 22,660 campsites with from-prices per night, a map, ratings and apps. The imprint names the managing director and an external data protection officer in Regensburg. The terms are blunt on one point: direct online bookings through Camping.info are not possible.

You are forwarded to the campsite or a service provider it uses, and that party becomes your contract partner. Campsite details and prices are largely supplied by the campsites themselves, according to the terms. Against Hipcamp that means more established sites and more countries, but less control over what happens after the click.

What Camping.info does better than Hipcamp

  • Lists 22,660 campsites, a far wider spread of established sites
  • Names a German company, register court and data protection officer
  • Free for campers, with from-prices on the homepage

Where Camping.info is a step down from Hipcamp

  • No direct booking, so payment and cancellation depend on each campsite
  • Little private land or farm camping
  • Hosting location is not stated

Standout against Hipcamp. Camping.info says outright that it does not take bookings, which keeps the portal and the contract separate.

#4

PiNCAMP

a German-language campsite search with pitches and rentals in one place

Munich / Berlin, GermanyFree to search. Prices are not shown in the text we read.#4 in Camping Booking Platforms

Best for: German-speaking campers who want to search pitches and mobile homes across 44 countries

PiNCAMP GmbH is registered in Munich and states more than 14,500 campsites in 44 countries. A visitor can switch between pitches and rental accommodation, search by an ADAC number and mark bookable campsites. A Swiss edition carries the TCS name and the same GmbH. The branding links the portal to ADAC; we did not read how ownership is split.

The privacy policy names Amazon Web Services EMEA SARL as host, with AWS Inc. and imgix under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, so some US-linked processing exists. Reservation requests go through a European processor, according to the policy. The pages we read were in German and showed no prices, so a visitor who does not read German is better served elsewhere.

What PiNCAMP does better than Hipcamp

  • Operator in Munich with a full imprint and a named data protection officer
  • Covers both pitches and rentals in one search
  • Names its hosting company and the processors it relies on in the privacy policy

Where PiNCAMP is a step down from Hipcamp

  • Pages are in German and prices are not shown
  • AWS hosting with US-linked sub-processors
  • Private land and farm spots are not the focus

Standout against Hipcamp. PiNCAMP offers a Swiss edition for TCS members under the same German company.

ACSI

an inspected-campsite publisher and discount card, not a marketplace

Andelst, NetherlandsPrices are not shown on the pages we read.#5 in Camping Booking Platforms

Best for: Campers who prefer yearly inspected campsites and a discount card over private land

ACSI Holding BV and ACSI Publishing BV sit in Andelst in the Netherlands, and the imprint names a managing director and a VAT ID. The About page says the green guides have existed since 1965 and that an inspector visits every campsite in them each year. ACSI says it does not award ratings itself, and campers rate sites.

The menu lists CampingCard ACSI, ACSI Club ID, Eurocampings, Great Little Campsites, Suncamp, SunLodge and Euronature. Prices were not shown on the pages we read, and the link between the camping.info Booking menu entry and the Camping.info portal was not verified. Hipcamp reviews come from guests, while ACSI adds an inspection layer.

What ACSI does better than Hipcamp

  • Campsites are inspected every year, according to ACSI
  • Guides, card and apps come from one Dutch publisher
  • The site is offered in seven languages

Where ACSI is a step down from Hipcamp

  • Few private or farm pitches
  • No prices in the text we read, and hosting is not stated
  • Which product allows direct booking was unclear

Standout against Hipcamp. ACSI has published inspected campsite guides since 1965, a longer record than any app on this page.

France Passion

a members-only network of farm and cellar stopovers for motorhomes in France

Carpentras, FranceThe German terms say all prices are in euros including VAT. The price of the guide is not in the text we read.#6 in Camping Booking Platforms

Best for: Motorhome owners touring France who want to stay at producers without booking

France Passion says about 2,200 farmers, winemakers, beekeepers, brewers and artisans welcome motorhomes. The credits page gives a postal address in Carpentras, and the German terms refer to France Passion SARL. Members use a stopover map and an app, and a printed guide appears each March.

It overlaps with the farm-stay side of Hipcamp, with two limits: motorhomes only, and no online booking in the pages we read. You arrive and ask. The home page describes stopovers as free all year for members. The guide price, register number and hosting provider were not shown, so the full cost of membership is unknown to us.

What France Passion does better than Hipcamp

  • Stopovers are described as free all year for members
  • About 2,200 hosts who sell local produce and open their land
  • A printed and digital guide that works without a signal

Where France Passion is a step down from Hipcamp

  • Motorhomes only, with no tents
  • No booking engine, so a host can be full
  • Register number, VAT ID and guide price are not shown

Standout against Hipcamp. France Passion is the one network here where the stopover is free and the producer is the host.

Huttopia

an operator of its own nature campsites rather than a marketplace

Saint-Genis-les-Ollieres, FrancePriced per stay. The homepage shows a promotion of 10% off 2027 stays with the code NATURE27. No nightly prices were visible in the text we read.#7 in Camping Booking Platforms

Best for: Campers who want cabins, tents or bivouacs at one French operator with a single standard

HUTTOPIA SA is registered in Lyon, with share capital of 7,814,792.40 EUR, and the legal notice names OELIS in Saint-Etienne as host. The navigation lists Campings Nature in three lines (Iconic, Authentic and Origin), Bivouacs, CityKamp in cities such as Paris and Lyon, and winter chalets.

Hipcamp lists land from many independent owners. Huttopia sells only its own sites, so every stay follows one house style and one set of conditions, and there is no private land. The pages we read were in French and showed no nightly prices. A promotion of 10% off 2027 stays with a code appeared on the homepage. Some sites are in Canada and the United States.

What Huttopia does better than Hipcamp

  • One operator and one contract across all sites
  • Bivouacs and city camps in addition to campsites
  • A named French host and a French registered company

Where Huttopia is a step down from Hipcamp

  • Own sites only, so the choice is narrower
  • Prices and terms were not in the text we read
  • Navigation and legal notice are in French

Standout against Hipcamp. Huttopia is the only operator here that sells camps inside cities such as Paris and Lyon.

Best for: Families who want a fitted holiday home or tent with a deposit plan, not a bare pitch

Greenbank Holidays Limited trades as Eurocamp from Northwich, registered in England, and its privacy policy names Homair Vacances SAS as parent company. It sells accommodation at more than 400 parcs for one price per accommodation, not per person. A 99 GBP deposit applies if you book by 31 January of the travel year, then a 25% deposit.

The booking conditions set a minimum age of 21 for the lead booker, and amendments are free up to four weeks before departure for 2026 holidays and eight weeks for 2027. Prices on the UK site are in GBP. It is a British company, outside the EU, but covered by an EU adequacy decision, which is a different position from Hipcamp, Inc.

What Eurocamp does better than Hipcamp

  • One price for the whole party and interest-free instalments
  • No amendment fee up to a set date before departure
  • Describes ABTA bonding on its payment page

Where Eurocamp is a step down from Hipcamp

  • British company, so outside the EU, and prices are in GBP
  • Parc holidays only, with no private land or one-night stops
  • Lead booker must be over 21

Standout against Hipcamp. Eurocamp states its deposit and amendment rules as figures and dates on the site.

The site covers more than 220 campsites, with tent and caravan pitches, Tribu stays for 8 to 12 people and Bubble stays with a private spa. Prices and terms were not in the text we read.

What Capfun does better than Hipcamp

  • A named French company with capital, register and insurer
  • Tent and caravan pitches next to rentals in a single search

Where Capfun is a step down from Hipcamp

  • Mostly French pages, and no private land or farm spots

Standout against Hipcamp. Capfun is the only one here that lists a stay type for 8 to 12 people.

The parks sit on the French Atlantic and Mediterranean coasts, in Normandy and in the Netherlands. The conditions name French law and courts, but the pages do not say which entity is the contracting party for a booking.

What Siblu does better than Hipcamp

  • Names two companies with register numbers and French courts
  • Kids clubs and sports are part of the stay

Where Siblu is a step down from Hipcamp

  • Own parks only, with no prices and an unclear booking entity

Standout against Hipcamp. Siblu names French law and French courts in its general conditions of use.

Camping and Co

a Saint-Malo travel agency selling campsite stays with flexible cancellation

Saint-Malo, FranceA sign-up offer of 30 euros off a stay is shown. The terms mention a No Flex and a Flex+ cancellation option and part payment by credit through Alma SAS. Nightly prices were not in the text we read.#12 in Camping Booking Platforms

Best for: Travellers who want an agency with a licence, a guarantee body and a Flex option

Holidays&Co SAS edits Camping and Co from Saint-Malo, with share capital of 298,043.60 euros and the travel agent licence IM 035170003. The terms name APST as financial guarantee and Hiscox as liability insurer. The legal notice says the site is hosted in France, but the provider name was cut off in the text we read.

The page header says FLEX+ allows cancellation up to the day before arrival without proof. A sign-up offer of 30 euros off a stay appeared, and part payment runs through Alma SAS, whose terms we did not read. The site sells established campsites in French regions and in Spain, Italy and Portugal, with pages in French. For the VACAF area, booking is by phone only.

What Camping and Co does better than Hipcamp

  • A named guarantee body and liability insurer for the agency
  • FLEX+ cancellation until the day before arrival
  • Hosted in France, according to the legal notice

Where Camping and Co is a step down from Hipcamp

  • Pages in French, and no nightly prices in the text we read
  • Established campsites only, no private land

Standout against Hipcamp. Camping and Co is the only agency here that names a financial guarantee body and an insurer.

What actually breaks when you switch

Switching away from Hipcamp costs you the account side first. Hipcamp reviews, wishlists and any Hipcash balance stay with Hipcamp, and none of the tools on this page imports them. Ask for a copy of your booking history under your data rights before you close the account, and check what happens to any Hipcash balance before you close it.

The second break is search habits. Hipcamp lists dog-friendly and fires-allowed categories on its homepage, and the European portals use their own filters and mostly the national language. Camping.info, Capfun and Sunelia show many languages, while PiNCAMP, Huttopia and Camping and Co showed German or French in the text we read. Also, the cancellation rules differ per platform, so read each one before paying a deposit.

Does Hipcamp have a separate set of terms for European users?

Yes. The Hipcamp terms page states that the main terms apply if your country of residence or establishment is outside the EEA, Switzerland or the United Kingdom. Anyone inside those areas is told to read the Terms of Use for European Users. The contents of that second document were not part of what we read.

The privacy policy, in contrast, has one version for all users. It names Hipcamp, Inc. as the controller and has a section on EEA and UK residents that lists the legal grounds Hipcamp relies on. Read both documents before you decide, because they come from the same US company.

Which tool books private land the way Hipcamp does?

Campspace is the closest. Hosts list tent pitches, van spots, cabins and treehouses, guests book and pay inside the platform, and the Dutch company behind it is registered in Haarlem. The guest pays the host price plus 3 EUR and a 17% commission according to the Campspace FAQ.

The others on this page are different animals. park4night shows places on a map but describes no stay booking in the pages we read, France Passion is a motorhome network with no online booking, and the park and campsite groups sell only their own pitches. If Hipcamp for you means farm camping, Campspace is the main option here.

Which one to pick

If you booked private land on Hipcamp, start with Campspace, and compare its 3 EUR plus 17% fee with what the host charges directly. If you travel by van, add park4night for free spots and France Passion if you tour France in a motorhome.

If you used Hipcamp to find a standard campsite, Camping.info and PiNCAMP cover thousands of them, and ACSI adds inspected guides. If you want a family holiday home with a deposit plan, compare Eurocamp, Capfun, Sunelia, Siblu and Huttopia.

Hipcamp remains stronger as one app that mixes tents, caravans, pods and cabins with maps and reviews, and for trips outside Europe, since its group has companies in Canada and Australia. A cancellation rule you have read in advance is worth more than a price shown on a portal.

Frequently Asked Questions

For private land with payment on the platform, Campspace from Haarlem in the Netherlands. For free overnight spots for vans, park4night from France. For comparing established campsites, Camping.info from Berlin and PiNCAMP from Munich. For packaged family stays, Eurocamp, Capfun, Sunelia, Siblu or Huttopia. Which one fits depends on whether you want private land, a map, a portal or a holiday home.

Hipcamp has a British site with UK destinations, and its terms list Hipcamp UK Ltd as a group company. The homepage we read named Cornwall, the Lake District and other British regions, and the search box mentioned France. We did not count the sites it offers on the continent. A European platform may show more choice in your own country.

Campspace takes payment on the platform, and Eurocamp, Capfun, Sunelia, Siblu, Huttopia and Camping and Co sell stays directly. Camping.info states that direct online booking through it is not possible and forwards you to the campsite. park4night and France Passion describe no booking engine on the pages we read.

park4night is free to use according to its homepage, with some features in the park4night+ version, and Camping.info is free for campers. PiNCAMP is free to search. None of them is a free booking marketplace, because you pay the campsite or the host when you stay. France Passion describes stopovers as free for members all year.

The pages we read name a host only for some tools. park4night uses OVH SAS in Roubaix, Huttopia uses OELIS in Saint-Etienne, PiNCAMP names Amazon Web Services EMEA SARL, and Camping and Co says it is hosted in France. Campspace, Camping.info, ACSI, Eurocamp, Capfun, Sunelia and Siblu do not state a location in the text we read, so ask them directly.
