European Alternatives to GE Vernova Proficy

Looking for a European alternative to GE Vernova Proficy? Proficy is an industrial software portfolio including the Proficy Smart Factory MES, published by GE Vernova of Cambridge, Massachusetts, and the Proficy site now announces a rebrand to Velotic, which leaves buyers with a roadmap and contracting question to resolve.

These European MES and OEE vendors are contracted through companies in Germany, Denmark, Estonia, Portugal and the UK, and range from monitoring tools with published prices to modular MES platforms for discrete manufacturing.

How we rank these tools — 4-step process
  1. 1
    European ownership, verified

The company is headquartered and incorporated in the EU, EEA, the UK, Switzerland or Israel, and processes customer data in Europe or Israel. A US parent company disqualifies a tool from this page regardless of where its servers are.

  2. 2
    Category fit and hands-on review

What the tool actually does, who it suits, and where it falls short — checked against the vendor’s own documentation, changelog and pricing page rather than its marketing copy.

  3. 3
    Compliance and pricing check

GDPR posture, hosting location and the prices quoted on this page are verified against the vendor’s public pricing before publication, and re-checked when we revisit the category.

  4. 4
    Position on this page

Placement on this page can be paid, and that can affect which tools appear here and the order they appear in. It never buys a good review: a tool that fails the checks above is not here at any price, and payment does not change the shortcomings we write about. A vendor can ask us to correct a factual error — not to remove a criticism.

Vendors can pay for visibility on this page. It never changes what an entry says about a product, including the criticism, and we earn nothing when you click through to a vendor. Vendors can pay for more visibility, higher up on the review pages; it never affects which tools are listed. Editorial policy

Key takeaways

  • GE Vernova Proficy is published from Cambridge, Massachusetts, and its Smart Factory MES is offered as a cloud or on-premise composable system.
  • The Proficy page refers to Velotic as the vendor named in a 2026 Gartner market guide, while no change of ownership is stated on the pages we read.
  • Evocon in Estonia and Factbird in Denmark publish per-machine and per-line prices, and neither is a full MES with scheduling or genealogy.
  • MPDV states that its cloud services process data exclusively in certified EU data centers, and GFOS names its own German cloud, knownCloud.
  • Two of the ten tools are owned outside their country of registration: AVEVA MES by Schneider Electric SE of France and Critical Manufacturing by ASMPT.

Why people leave GE Vernova Proficy

Proficy is the name GE Vernova gives to its industrial software portfolio: HMI/SCADA, a historian, analytics and manufacturing execution. The MES part is Proficy Smart Factory, offered as a cloud or on-premise composable system, next to Plant Applications, Cloud MES and Cloud OEE in the site navigation. The vendor says more than 20,000 customers use the portfolio, which is its own count and not one we can check. The publishing company is GE Vernova in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Buyers start looking elsewhere for reasons that are more practical than ideological. The Proficy page now speaks of Velotic where it used to say GE Vernova, in a sentence about a Gartner market guide, which leaves a plant manager unsure who will own the roadmap and who will sign the next renewal. No ownership change is claimed on the page. It is a naming signal, and a long-lived MES contract is the wrong place to guess.

Then there is scale. A plant that wants machine states, scrap and OEE on twelve lines is shopping in a different market from a group that wants one MES across continents. Proficy sits at the top of that range.

Against it, European vendors split into light monitoring tools with published prices and modular MES platforms from Germany, Portugal and the UK, and the second group asks for a similar project budget in exchange for a contracting partner on your own side of the Atlantic.

  • A name change with no ownership statement On the Proficy page the Gartner reference says Velotic was named a Representative Vendor in the 2026 Market Guide for Manufacturing Execution Systems, while the rest of the page and the privacy policy still speak of GE Vernova. Nothing there says who owns the product after the rebrand. For a system you will run for ten years, ask in writing who the contracting party is and who answers for support.
  • A portfolio that is larger than the MES you need Proficy covers HMI/SCADA, historian, operations hub, analytics and sustainability reporting alongside Smart Factory. A plant that only needs order tracking and traceability pays attention, training and licence design for pieces it will not switch on. Vendors such as FASTEC or PSI sell one MES with modules you add later, which keeps the first project smaller.
  • Contracting through a US group The privacy policy names GE Vernova's Cambridge, Massachusetts address for privacy requests and describes Binding Corporate Rules for personal data of EU residents. That is a recognised transfer mechanism, but it covers personal data, not your production recipes or machine logs. A Dutch or German plant that wants every contract, court and data centre inside one legal area has to look at a European vendor.
  • Quote-only pricing for a large landscape The Proficy pages we read publish no prices, and the portfolio spans several products that are licensed separately. Quote-only pricing is also the norm among the European MES suites, so this is not a point against Proficy alone. It does mean that Evocon and Factbird, which publish per-machine and per-line prices, are the only options here where a budget can be drafted before a sales call.

What you have to replace, not just match

Replacing Proficy Smart Factory is mostly a question of scope. The first layer is machine data: states, stops, counts and cycle times, which any tool on this page can collect through OPC UA, MQTT or its own edge hardware.

The second layer is production control, meaning orders, routings, material and the screens operators use. The third is quality and traceability, with genealogy from raw material to finished part, and this is where lightweight OEE tools stop and the German and Portuguese MES suites begin.

Around the MES sits the rest of the Proficy portfolio, and that is the part people forget. If your HMI/SCADA, historian or Operations Hub also come from GE Vernova, the MES connects to them with vendor-supplied adapters. A European MES will connect through standards, not through that shared product family, so each interface becomes a small integration project. Make a list of every system the current MES talks to, and ask each candidate for the same list in writing.

Finally there is data. Years of production history, recipes, routings and quality records sit in your Proficy databases. None of the vendors on this page claims a one-click import from Proficy, so assume an export to files or a database copy, a mapping workshop and a parallel run on one line. The cost of that migration is often larger than the first-year licence difference between vendors.

How each alternative compares to GE Vernova Proficy

#1

Evocon

Estonian OEE monitoring with published per-machine prices instead of a portfolio quote

Estonia, EstoniaPer machine, billed annually: Basic EUR 159/month (3-year agreement) or EUR 189 (1-year); Professional EUR 209 or EUR 249; Enterprise EUR 269 or EUR 319#1 in Manufacturing Execution System (MES) Software

Best for: Plants that want downtime and scrap visibility on a handful of lines before any MES project

Where Proficy Smart Factory starts with a sales conversation, Evocon starts with a price table. Three plans are priced per machine and billed annually, from €159 a month on a three-year agreement to €319 for Enterprise on one year, and the connecting IIoT device is rented for €15 to €19 a month. The product tracks states, stops with reasons, scrap and OEE.

The contracting party is Evocon OÜ in Estonia, and the vendor states ISO/IEC 27001:2022 recertification and publishes a sub-processor list. Hosting location is not stated on the pages we read. Scheduling, genealogy and recipe control are not listed, so Evocon replaces the monitoring use of Proficy, not the order-control use.

What Evocon does better than GE Vernova Proficy

  • Prices you can read without a call
  • Time to first dashboard on a single line
  • Unlimited users stated in the licence
  • A vendor sub-processor list

Where Evocon is a step down from GE Vernova Proficy

  • Order scheduling and traceability
  • Anything beyond the shop floor, such as SCADA or historian

Standout against GE Vernova Proficy. Evocon is the cheapest way on this page to put OEE on a screen, with the price visible before the first call.

Factbird

Danish OEE and operations suite sold as three separable modules

Copenhagen, DenmarkPrices listed in US dollars: Production Insights $250 per line, Connected Operations $200 per line, Knowledge Excellence $500 per site, system base fee $1000, support fee 2%#2 in Manufacturing Execution System (MES) Software

Best for: Food, packaging and industrial plants that want OEE plus paperless checks without a full MES

Factbird splits what Proficy bundles. Production Insights covers data capture, OEE and downtime, Connected Operations adds digital guidance, quality checks and maintenance, and Knowledge Excellence handles skills. You can buy one without the others, which is the opposite of a portfolio sale. The origin is a Royal Unibrew project by Emendo Consulting, rebranded from Blackbird in 2023.

Factbird ApS in Copenhagen is the contracting party. Prices appear in US dollars, with a currency selector, and hosting is on AWS with the region unstated, plus an enterprise private cloud option. The company also has a US office, so ask which entity signs. There is no scheduling or genealogy, so it does not stand in for Smart Factory on regulated lines.

What Factbird does better than GE Vernova Proficy

  • Buying modules one at a time
  • Digital checklists and skills tracking out of the box
  • Per-line pricing instead of portfolio quotes
  • A private cloud option for enterprise customers

Where Factbird is a step down from GE Vernova Proficy

  • Full MES depth such as scheduling and genealogy
  • Euro pricing and a stated hosting region

Standout against GE Vernova Proficy. Its skills matrix next to OEE is not something Proficy Smart Factory lists on the pages we read.

FASTEC 4 PRO

Paderborn MES with one database under every module

Paderborn, GermanyPricing on request#3 in Manufacturing Execution System (MES) Software

Best for: Mid-sized German-speaking manufacturers that want to add MES modules step by step

FASTEC GmbH has been working on production data since 1995, and its pitch is structural. Data acquisition, production data, quality, planning, traceability and maintenance read one central database, so there are no interfaces between modules. A plant can start with machine data and add planning when the first project has paid off.

Connectivity runs through OPC UA, MQTT and SAP interfaces, and FASTEC rents its own FASTedge hardware. The company is registered at Amtsgericht Paderborn under HRB 2644. Pricing is on request, the cloud hosting location is not stated, and customer and project counts on the site are the vendor's own claims. Documentation leans German.

What FASTEC 4 PRO does better than GE Vernova Proficy

  • A single database across all modules
  • Rental option for edge hardware
  • A small contracting entity with a register number
  • A smaller first project

Where FASTEC 4 PRO is a step down from GE Vernova Proficy

  • International reach and partner network
  • A visible SCADA or historian product family
  • English-first documentation

Standout against GE Vernova Proficy. FASTEC lets a plant start with data capture and grow into planning on the same database.

GFOS.Smart Manufacturing

Essen MES with its own German cloud and a workforce management sibling

Essen, GermanyPricing on request#4 in Manufacturing Execution System (MES) Software

Best for: Plants that want production data and working time from one German supplier

GFOS is better known for workforce management than for MES, and that shapes the offer. GFOS.Smart Manufacturing covers planning, automated data collection, traceability and WIP intralogistics, and GFOS says it follows VDI guideline 5600. Time and attendance and access control come from the same vendor, which the Proficy pages we read do not mention.

The company states that its ISO 27001-certified knownCloud runs in German data centers, a concrete location that most vendors here do not give. GFOS mbH is registered at the District Court Essen under HRB 7600. Pricing is on request, no machine protocol list appeared on the page we read, and an on-premise option is not stated.

What GFOS.Smart Manufacturing does better than GE Vernova Proficy

  • A named German cloud location
  • Combining shop floor and working-time data
  • VDI 5600 coverage stated by the vendor
  • Preconfigured ERP interfaces

Where GFOS.Smart Manufacturing is a step down from GE Vernova Proficy

  • MES-only depth and focus
  • A published machine protocol list
  • Scale across continents

Standout against GE Vernova Proficy. GFOS pairs its MES with time and attendance, a combination the Proficy pages do not describe.

#5

FORCAM ENISCO

Three MES lines from light capture to automated line control

Böblingen, GermanyPricing on request#5 in Manufacturing Execution System (MES) Software

Best for: Discrete manufacturers who want a clear choice between a light, a flexible and an automated MES

FORCAM ENISCO sells three entry points where Proficy sells a portfolio. MES LITE records downtime, quantities and quality and is described as installable in days, MES FLEX adds OEE, detailed planning, traceability, energy monitoring and an SAP adapter, and E-MES controls automated lines with 2D and 3D visualization. The capacity claims for MES LITE are the vendor's own.

FORCAM ENISCO GmbH in Böblingen is the umbrella over FORCAM GmbH and ENISCO by FORCAM, with offices in France, the USA, China and India. Because of the merger, a contract may sit with one of three entities, so ask which one signs. Hosting location and pricing are not stated, and the semantic data model is marketing until you test it.

What FORCAM ENISCO does better than GE Vernova Proficy

  • A clear ladder from light to automated MES
  • Energy monitoring inside MES FLEX
  • Automated line control with visualization
  • An SAP adapter listed on the product line

Where FORCAM ENISCO is a step down from GE Vernova Proficy

  • Single-entity contracting
  • Published pricing or hosting details

Standout against GE Vernova Proficy. Its split into three named products makes the first scoping meeting shorter than for a portfolio.

MPDV HYDRA X

Broadest German MES family, with planning, integration and EU cloud services

Mosbach, GermanyPricing on request#6 in Manufacturing Execution System (MES) Software

Best for: Large discrete or process plants wanting to retire several point tools for one MES

MPDV is the European vendor closest to Proficy in breadth. HYDRA X covers data acquisition, quality, material, maintenance, HR, energy and intralogistics, FEDRA handles advanced planning, and the MIP platform handles exchange with other systems. HYDRA X for Process from FELTEN extends the family to process manufacturing, which most vendors on this page do not offer.

The Smart Factory Cloud Services deliver HYDRA X, FEDRA and MIP as a service, and MPDV states that data is processed only in certified EU data centers, though clients are still installed locally. MPDV Mikrolab GmbH sits at Mosbach, registered under HRB 440684, and was founded in 1977. Pricing is on request, and the vendor has US and Asian subsidiaries.

What MPDV HYDRA X does better than GE Vernova Proficy

  • A stated EU-only data processing location
  • Planning and integration in the same family
  • A process-industry variant
  • Four decades of vendor history

Where MPDV HYDRA X is a step down from GE Vernova Proficy

  • Short implementation projects
  • Pricing transparency
  • Fully browser-based clients

Standout against GE Vernova Proficy. MPDV is the only vendor here that states EU-only data processing and also offers a process-industry edition.

iTAC.MOM.Suite

Montabaur MES and MOM suite for automotive and electronics, owned by Dürr

Montabaur, GermanyPricing on request#7 in Manufacturing Execution System (MES) Software

Best for: Large discrete plants in automotive, e-mobility and electronics with global rollouts

iTAC.MOM.Suite is an integrated MES and MOM platform for production control, quality, traceability, planning and maintenance, with iTAC.MA.Suite for analytics and iTAC.AI.Suite for industrial AI beside it. The named industries are automotive, e-mobility, electronics, telecommunications, medical technology, metal and injection molding, a narrower list than the Proficy customer story library.

iTAC Software AG is registered in Montabaur under HRB 6740 and is part of the Dürr AG group, whose subsidiaries include entities in the USA, Mexico, China and Japan, as well as Cogiscan with a Canadian address. The October 2026 news mentions a Red Hat based MOM for global scale. Pricing and hosting are not stated.

What iTAC.MOM.Suite does better than GE Vernova Proficy

  • An MES, analytics and AI suite from one German vendor
  • Fit for electronics and automotive traceability
  • A named parent group and register number

Where iTAC.MOM.Suite is a step down from GE Vernova Proficy

  • Independence from a large industrial group
  • Pricing and hosting transparency
  • Small-plant projects

Standout against GE Vernova Proficy. iTAC is the only German MES here that sits inside an industrial equipment maker's group.

Critical Manufacturing MES

Portuguese MES for semiconductor, electronics and medical device plants

Maia (Porto), PortugalPricing on request#8 in Manufacturing Execution System (MES) Software

Best for: Regulated or high-tech multi-site manufacturers needing central master data and a digital twin

Critical Manufacturing builds for complex discrete production, and its common data model links equipment, IoT, ERP and PLM into one layer. The Global Data Orchestrator defines master data centrally and pushes it to the sites that need it, which addresses a multi-plant problem that Proficy users usually solve with custom integration. The product page also lists AI agents and a factory digital twin.

Terms identify Critical Manufacturing SA in Maia, Portugal, governed by Portuguese law, with a subsidiary in Dresden for German customers. The owner since 2018 is ASMPT, which is not European, so buyers with ownership criteria should weigh that apart from the contract. Pricing and hosting are not stated, and the system is heavy for a simple workshop.

What Critical Manufacturing MES does better than GE Vernova Proficy

  • Central master data across sites
  • Portuguese law as contract basis
  • Fit for regulated high-tech lines
  • A German subsidiary for local projects

Where Critical Manufacturing MES is a step down from GE Vernova Proficy

  • Independence of ownership
  • Weight for small plants
  • Pricing and hosting transparency

Standout against GE Vernova Proficy. The Global Data Orchestrator is a multi-site master data feature that no other vendor on this page describes.

PSIpenta/MES

Berlin MES with finite scheduling for mid-sized discrete manufacturers

Berlin, GermanyPricing on request#9 in Manufacturing Execution System (MES) Software

Best for: Machine builders and tool makers that want scheduling and workflows without custom code

PSIpenta/MES tracks raw material, intermediate and finished goods by quantity, and plans sequences per work center against finite capacities. Processes are modelled with graphical drag and drop workflows, so a production engineer can change a step without a development project. Compared with Proficy's composable approach, the aim is a smaller system that a mid-sized firm can configure itself.

An Order Management module lets PSIpenta/MES run under an ERP other than PSIpenta ERP, though the value is greatest when both come from PSI. PSI Software SE is registered in Berlin (Charlottenburg, 255242), and references are named in machine building, tooling and plastics. Pricing and hosting are not stated, and regulated or multi-site plants are a weaker fit.

What PSIpenta/MES does better than GE Vernova Proficy

  • Finite-capacity scheduling per work center
  • Workflow changes without programming
  • Running under third-party ERP

Where PSIpenta/MES is a step down from GE Vernova Proficy

  • Multi-site and regulated plants
  • Cloud details and published pricing

Standout against GE Vernova Proficy. PSIpenta/MES combines finite-capacity scheduling with drag-and-drop workflow editing for mid-sized shops.

AVEVA MES

UK composable MES from the same family as SCADA and historians

Cambridge, United KingdomPricing on request#10 in Manufacturing Execution System (MES) Software

Best for: Process and hybrid manufacturers already running AVEVA or Schneider Electric software

AVEVA MES is the nearest to Proficy in shape: part of a wide industrial catalogue that includes SCADA, historians and asset performance management. The MES offers a composable operator interface, low-code workflow modelling, real-time production control, track and trace and OEE, with multi-site analytics in the cloud. A plant that wants one family can stay in one family.

AVEVA Group Limited has its registered address in Cambridge, UK (Reg. No. 2937296) and is wholly owned by Schneider Electric SE of France, according to its privacy policy. UK law applies through an adequacy decision, not EU membership. Hosting is not stated, pricing is on request, and local contracting entities vary, so check which AVEVA entity signs for a site outside the UK.

What AVEVA MES does better than GE Vernova Proficy

  • A catalogue with SCADA and historian beside the MES
  • Low-code workflow modelling
  • Contracting through a UK entity under UK law

Where AVEVA MES is a step down from GE Vernova Proficy

  • Independence from a large group
  • EU jurisdiction for the contract
  • Pricing and hosting transparency

Standout against GE Vernova Proficy. AVEVA MES is the one tool here that keeps the plant in a SCADA, historian and MES family comparable to Proficy.

aveva.com/en/products/manufacturing-execution-system Visit AVEVA MES

What actually breaks when you switch

Expect the first friction at the machine interface. Proficy connects to equipment through its own drivers and to the Proficy historian, and none of that carries over. European MES vendors connect through OPC UA, MQTT or their own edge hardware, so plan a commissioning day per line and keep the old system reading in parallel until counts match. Operators will also need new screens, and retraining takes longer than configuration on plants with several shifts.

The second is contractual. Ask for a data export in a documented format before signing anything, check how long the old Proficy licence runs, and write the migration into the new contract as a milestone with acceptance criteria. Vendors with several legal entities, such as FORCAM ENISCO and AVEVA, should name the signing entity. Ask any vendor that does not state its hosting region to put it in the order form.

Do we have to leave Proficy because of the Velotic name?

No. The pages we read describe a rebrand, not a sale, and they do not claim a change of ownership. If your support contract, licence terms and roadmap commitments are written with GE Vernova, they remain in force until a counterparty says otherwise. The sensible step is to ask your account manager which legal entity will invoice you after the new name takes effect and whether product names such as Smart Factory stay.

Treat the answer as an input to your replacement timeline, not as a trigger. A plant with five years left on a stable installation can plan a pilot with a European MES on one line while the paperwork becomes clear. A plant mid-renewal has leverage now, and writing a change-of-control or name-change clause into the renewal costs little.

Can a European MES run the same factory floor as Proficy Smart Factory?

For discrete manufacturing, yes, in most cases. FASTEC 4 PRO, MPDV HYDRA X, GFOS, iTAC.MOM.Suite and PSIpenta/MES all describe machine data acquisition, quality, planning and traceability, and all list interfaces to ERP systems. Critical Manufacturing aims at semiconductor, electronics and medical device plants. For continuous or process plants, check carefully, because only MPDV mentions a process variant and AVEVA MES is built for hybrid use.

The honest limit is breadth. Proficy ships historian, SCADA and analytics under one name. No European MES here replaces that whole stack, so a plant that wants a single vendor for all of it will end up combining tools. That is a design choice, not a defect, and it removes the single point of dependence you are trying to escape.

Which one to pick

For a plant that mainly wants OEE, downtime and scrap, start with Evocon or Factbird: both publish prices, and a pilot on one line takes little time. For a modular MES in discrete manufacturing, MPDV HYDRA X offers the widest range with a stated EU data location, FASTEC 4 PRO suits a plant that wants to grow module by module, and GFOS fits where working time and production data belong together.

Critical Manufacturing is the choice for regulated high-tech plants with several sites, and iTAC.MOM.Suite for automotive and electronics groups. PSIpenta/MES fits mid-sized machine builders that need scheduling. If you want a Proficy-like family and can accept UK law and Schneider Electric ownership, AVEVA MES is the nearest equivalent. If Proficy already runs well and your contract is stable, staying while you pilot one alternative is a reasonable plan.

Frequently Asked Questions

It depends on how much MES you use. For OEE and downtime on a few lines, Evocon from Estonia and Factbird from Denmark publish prices. For a modular MES in discrete manufacturing, FASTEC 4 PRO, MPDV HYDRA X and iTAC.MOM.Suite from Germany are the closest matches, and Critical Manufacturing from Portugal fits complex high-tech plants. AVEVA MES is a UK option for plants that already run AVEVA software.

Yes. The vendor describes Smart Factory as a cloud-based or on-premise composable MES, and lists Cloud MES and Cloud OEE in its product navigation. The pages we read do not name hosting regions for those cloud products. Ask which provider and region would hold your data before comparing it with MPDV, which states EU data centers, or GFOS, which states Germany.

Only two of the ten. Evocon lists three plans per machine, starting at €159 a month on a three-year agreement, and Factbird lists prices in US dollars per line and per site, with a $1000 base fee. FASTEC, GFOS, FORCAM ENISCO, MPDV, iTAC, Critical Manufacturing, PSI and AVEVA quote on request, so budget with a workshop and a reference visit.

Eight of the ten contract through a company in Germany, Denmark, Estonia or Portugal. AVEVA MES is published by AVEVA Group Limited in Cambridge, UK, and is owned by Schneider Electric SE, so it sits under UK law with an adequacy decision. Critical Manufacturing is a Portuguese company owned since 2018 by ASMPT, and iTAC is part of the Dürr AG group. Ownership is listed on each tool page.

If your questions are about stops, scrap and shift performance, an OEE tool is enough and much cheaper to start. If you must control orders, enforce routings, record material genealogy for audits or schedule against finite capacity, you need an MES. Evocon and Factbird sit in the first group, while FASTEC, MPDV, GFOS, iTAC and PSI sit in the second.
