Detailed Review
Outbank GmbH (Handelsregister Amtsgericht Passau HRB 10722) builds a multibanking app where, according to its security page, all financial data is stored locally and encrypted with a password that only the user holds. Outbank says it cannot see the data.
Categorisation, contract detection and account retrieval run on the device, and the device talks directly to the bank instead of through a proxy server. That is a different design from cloud aggregators.
Local-First Design
Passwords and access data are kept on the device, certificate pinning is checked every 15 minutes according to the vendor, and the app creates regular local backups. An incognito mode hides amounts with one tap.
For use across several devices, Secure Sync uses servers assigned to Outbank that stand only in Germany, per the privacy policy, with the database encrypted from the app password.
Budget and Payment Functions
Outbank covers accounts from more than 4,500 banks and payment services, plus securities depots, PayPal and crypto accounts. It offers custom categories and rules, contract management, cash and offline expenses including crypto and precious metals, and export of transactions for accountants.
Payment functions include SEPA transfers, real-time and scheduled transfers, standing orders and direct debits. Family sharing works on Apple devices.
Pricing
There is a 14-day free trial and no free tier on the pricing page. Plans are monthly or yearly: EUR 3.99 per month or EUR 39.99 per year, and a higher plan at EUR 9.99 per month or EUR 99.99 per year.
Limitations to Consider
Outbank has no free tier after the 14-day trial. The platforms named on the site are iPhone, iPad, Mac and Android, with no web or Windows version listed. The pages checked are in German, and the budgeting side is category analysis and rules rather than a plan-ahead method. Since data stays on the device, a lost device without a backup affects the user directly. For a Windows and Mac option see Banking4.
Who Should Use Outbank
German-speaking users with Apple or Android devices who prefer that finance data stays on the device and are willing to pay a subscription.
