Detailed Review
MoneyCoach is a personal finance app that runs on Apple devices only. The App Store listing shows the seller as MoneyCoach UG (haftungsbeschraenkt) and a first release in June 2015, and the imprint names the same company at Alte Schoenhauser Strasse 16 in Berlin (c/o Volkssolidaritaet e. V., Amtsgericht Berlin-Charlottenburg, HRB 187249, managing director Perjan Duro).
Budgets are built around categories: a monthly limit per category or subcategory, with optional rollover and actions to top up, transfer between and rebalance budgets. The site describes the approach as envelope budgeting without manual envelope math, and it does not describe assigning income before it is spent, which is the YNAB method.
Plans and Pricing
The pricing page lists Premium from EUR 4.99 per month or EUR 39.99 per year, with bank sync for up to 4 bank logins, unlimited accounts and budgets and partner sharing. Premium Max starts at EUR 7.99 per month or EUR 59.99 per year and adds investments and crypto, supported US mortgage and loan data, bank sync for up to 8 logins and read-only AI and MCP access.
These are reference prices. Subscriptions run through the Apple account, the App Store shows the exact price for each region, and the pricing page states that there is no permanent free version after the free trial.
Bank Sync and Manual Accounts
Bank connections in the EU and EEA run through GoCardless. The bank coverage page counts 2,798 supported institutions in 30 European countries (last refreshed 24 August 2026), led by Germany with 1,090 and Italy with 403. The UK is not included, and the page adds that coverage varies by account type, plan and bank.
Bank sync is read-only and a paid feature. Manual accounts, CSV import and Apple Pay or Wallet import through Shortcuts work without linking a bank.
Where the Data Goes
The privacy policy says financial data entered manually is primarily stored on the device, with optional iCloud sync. Online Banking data does not stay only on the device: it passes through the bank data provider and MoneyCoach's backend on Google Firebase, which the policy places in the EU (Cloud Functions in Belgium, Firestore in the EU, with access from the USA possible).
When Online Banking is used, the policy states that limited transaction fields (reference, description, creditor and debtor name, transaction type) are sent to the Google Gemini API to suggest a category. Google LLC is named as the recipient and described as a US company, with the EU-US Data Privacy Framework as the transfer basis. There is no separate switch: the policy says to avoid it by not using Online Banking.
Limitations to Consider
MoneyCoach runs on Apple devices only, with no Android or web app. After the trial there is no free plan, and bank sync is limited to 4 bank logins on Premium.
When Online Banking is used, transaction descriptions and counterparty names go to the Google Gemini API, and the privacy policy describes Google LLC as a US company, with no separate switch for it. The tool does not describe zero-based budgeting, so it is not a drop-in for the YNAB method. For a free, German-hosted alternative see Finanzblick.
Who Should Use MoneyCoach
