European AML and Transaction Monitoring Software

AML software watches payments and customers for money laundering and sanctions exposure, and it holds the most sensitive records a bank or payment firm has: account holders, counterparties and suspicious activity reports. These European vendors cover transaction monitoring, screening and case management, and each of them is contracted through a company in the EU, EEA, UK, Switzerland or Israel.

How we rank these tools — 4-step process
  1. 1
    European ownership, verified

The company is headquartered and incorporated in the EU, EEA, the UK, Switzerland or Israel, and processes customer data in Europe or Israel. A US parent company disqualifies a tool from this page regardless of where its servers are.

  2. 2
    Category fit and hands-on review

What the tool actually does, who it suits, and where it falls short — checked against the vendor’s own documentation, changelog and pricing page rather than its marketing copy.

  3. 3
    Compliance and pricing check

GDPR posture, hosting location and the prices quoted on this page are verified against the vendor’s public pricing before publication, and re-checked when we revisit the category.

  4. 4
    Position on this page

Placement on this page can be paid, and that can affect the order tools appear in. It never buys a listing: a tool that fails the checks above is not here at any price, and payment does not change the shortcomings we write about. A vendor can ask us to correct a factual error — not to remove a criticism.

Vendors can pay for visibility on this page. It never changes what an entry says about a product, including the criticism, and we earn nothing when you click through to a vendor. Vendors can pay for more visibility, higher up on the review pages; it never affects whether a tool is listed. Editorial policy

Key takeaways

  • Lucinity ranks first among the eleven European AML tools in this directory because its product is organised around the investigation, with case management, scenario and AI detection and regulatory reporting in one workspace.
  • Trapets is the only vendor here that states where customer data is stored, in Swedish data centres, and it adds market surveillance, which few AML suppliers cover.
  • Five of the eleven companies are EU-registered (Trapets in Sweden, Salv in Estonia, Feedzai in Portugal, Fenergo in Ireland, Scorechain in Luxembourg), Lucinity is Icelandic, and Napier AI, ComplyAdvantage and Elliptic are British.
  • Elliptic states coverage of more than 65 blockchains and Scorechain more than 25, and both are crypto-only, so a bank would run either one beside a general monitoring engine.
  • Not one of the eleven vendors publishes a price list, and only Scorechain's free wallet checks and Elliptic's free trial let you test the product before a sales conversation.

European AML and transaction monitoring software is the compliance software that banks, payment firms and crypto businesses use to watch customer transactions for money laundering and terrorist financing, screen customers against sanctions and PEP lists, and manage the resulting investigations, supplied by a vendor established in Europe so that suspicious activity reports, customer risk scores and case notes are held by a processor under a European, UK, Swiss or Israeli contract.

Every European AML and transaction monitoring software tool reviewed

#1 Lucinity

Reykjavik, Iceland Pricing on request Demo on request

Best for: AML teams whose main cost is analyst time on investigations

  • Operating company. Lucinity Group hf (operating company Lucinity ehf)
  • Jurisdiction. EEA, not EU (Iceland)
  • Where the data sits. Not stated on pages checked
  • Source code. Closed source
  • Replaces. SAS Anti-Money Laundering, NICE Actimize case management

Lucinity builds its AML platform around what an investigator does after an alert fires. The case manager puts the alert, a 360 degree customer view and the regulatory report in one workspace, and the Luci agent drafts investigation work that an analyst checks. Detection runs scenario-based and AI-based logic side by side, and workflows, dashboards and AI skills are configured by the customer.

Lucinity Group hf is registered in Iceland, with Lucinity ehf as the operating company in Reykjavik and UK and US subsidiaries, so ask which entity signs. The company states ISO 27001 and SOC 2 compliance and publishes API documentation, but it names no hosting region and no price. Against Napier AI or Trapets it is weaker on sanctions screening data and stronger on case handling.

What Lucinity does well

  • Case management, monitoring and reporting in one product
  • AI agent aimed at investigation work
  • Scenario-based and AI-based detection
  • Published ISO 27001 and SOC 2 claims
  • Public API documentation

Where Lucinity falls short

  • No public pricing
  • Hosting region not stated on pages checked
  • US subsidiary exists in the group
  • Less known for sanctions list screening data

Standout feature. Its case manager and Luci agent make the investigation, not the alert, the unit of work.

#2 Trapets

Stockholm, Sweden Pricing on request Demo on request

Best for: Nordic banks, credit institutions and trading venues

  • Operating company. Trapets AB
  • Jurisdiction. EU (Sweden)
  • Where the data sits. Swedish data centres
  • Source code. Closed source
  • Replaces. SAS Anti-Money Laundering, NICE Actimize

Trapets is the Stockholm company that sells monitoring, KYC and due diligence, screening and market surveillance as four connected products with a single customer view. A DNB Carnegie quote on its homepage describes a change in one risk factor flowing through to the other parts. The company says it has more than 25 years of experience.

Trapets AB states that all customer data is stored in Swedish data centres and that it has held ISO 27001 certification since 2018, which makes it the only vendor in this category with a named storage country. It aligns its pages with AMLR, GDPR, DORA, EBA and ESMA frameworks. The audience is regulated firms, not small startups, and neither pricing nor an integration list is public.

What Trapets does well

  • Customer data in Swedish data centres
  • Monitoring, KYC, screening and market surveillance together
  • ISO 27001 certified since 2018
  • Explicit AMLR and DORA alignment
  • Single customer view across modules

Where Trapets falls short

  • No public pricing
  • Regulated-institution focus, less for small startups
  • No self-hosting statement
  • Integration list not public

Standout feature. It is the only tool here that combines AML with trade and market abuse surveillance and also names the country where data is stored.

#3 Salv

Tallinn, Estonia Pricing on request Demo on request

Best for: Banks, fintechs, EMIs and payment providers handling fraud and AML together

  • Operating company. Salv Technologies OÜ
  • Jurisdiction. EU (Estonia)
  • Where the data sits. Not stated on pages checked
  • Source code. Closed source
  • Replaces. SAS Anti-Money Laundering, NICE Actimize

Salv sells AML and fraud detection that the customer's own compliance staff can reshape. Rules, thresholds and segments are editable without vendor tickets, customer risk scoring is dynamic, and screening supports auto-clearance. The fraud side covers account-to-account, instant and card payments, so a payment firm can run both programmes from one vendor.

Salv Technologies OÜ is registered in Tallinn under registry code 14518700, and the site states that more than 130 institutions in 30 jurisdictions use it. Its Bridge network lets banks work on cross-bank cases and clear sanctions hits together, but only when your counterparties join. Prices and hosting regions are not published, and trade finance or market surveillance are not part of the offer.

What Salv does well

  • Rules and thresholds editable by the customer
  • AML and fraud in one vendor
  • Bank-to-bank case sharing through Bridge
  • Stated reach of 130+ institutions
  • Registered in the EU (Estonia)

Where Salv falls short

  • No public pricing
  • Hosting region not stated on pages checked
  • Network value depends on adoption
  • Not a market surveillance product

Standout feature. Salv Bridge is the one feature here that lets banks work shared cases and sanctions clearance across institutions.

#4 Napier AI

London, United Kingdom Pricing on request Demo on request

Best for: Banks, payment firms and wealth managers wanting modular screening and monitoring

  • Operating company. Napier Technologies Limited
  • Jurisdiction. United Kingdom (adequacy decision, outside the EEA)
  • Where the data sits. Not stated on pages checked
  • Source code. Closed source
  • Replaces. SAS Anti-Money Laundering, NICE Actimize

Napier AI sells client screening, transaction screening and transaction monitoring as modules that can be adopted separately. Screening covers sanctions, PEPs and adverse media in real time and batch, the monitoring module ships with over 100 built-in AML typologies, and a continuous client risk assessment sits on top. Buyers can take an enterprise platform, a plug-and-play version or only the APIs.

Napier Technologies Limited is registered in England and Wales under company number 09901129, so UK GDPR applies and EU buyers treat it as a third-country supplier. The site states use by more than 150 financial institutions in banking, payments and wealth management. Case management is less of a focus than at Lucinity, and no price or hosting region is published.

What Napier AI does well

  • Modular screening and monitoring
  • 100+ built-in AML typologies
  • Platform or API purchase options
  • Used by 150+ institutions as stated
  • Perpetual client risk assessment

Where Napier AI falls short

  • No public pricing
  • UK entity, outside the EU
  • Hosting region not stated
  • Case management not the main focus

Standout feature. It is the tool whose screening and monitoring can be bought as APIs behind a case system you already run.

#5 IMTF

Givisiez, Switzerland Pricing on request Demo on request

Best for: Private banks, wealth managers and banks wanting one compliance suite

  • Operating company. Informatique-MTF SA
  • Jurisdiction. Switzerland (adequacy decision, outside the EEA)
  • Where the data sits. Not stated on pages checked
  • Source code. Closed source
  • Replaces. SAS Anti-Money Laundering, NICE Actimize

IMTF is the Swiss vendor behind Siron One, a modular platform whose listed use cases span KYC and client lifecycle management, AML transaction monitoring, sanctions screening, real-time fraud detection, trade finance compliance, tax compliance and document management. Institutions choose modules, so a private bank can begin with KYC and add monitoring later.

Informatique-MTF SA is based in Givisiez, Switzerland, which puts EU buyers under a third-country supplier relationship governed by Swiss law. According to the vendor, the platform is containerised, configurable without code and used by more than 1,000 institutions, and it claims a low total cost of ownership that only a pilot can confirm. A suite this wide may be heavy for small firms, and neither price nor hosting region is published.

What IMTF does well

  • Wide module list in one suite
  • No-code configuration claimed
  • Containerised platform
  • Trade finance and tax compliance modules
  • Stated base of 1,000+ institutions

Where IMTF falls short

  • No public pricing
  • Swiss entity, outside the EU
  • Hosting region not stated
  • Large suite may be heavy for small firms

Standout feature. Siron One is the only suite here that includes trade finance and tax compliance beside AML.

#6 ThetaRay

Hod HaSharon, Israel Pricing on request Demo on request

Best for: Payment firms and banks with cross-border flows

  • Operating company. ThetaRay Ltd.
  • Jurisdiction. Israel (outside the EU/EEA)
  • Where the data sits. Not stated on pages checked
  • Source code. Closed source
  • Replaces. SAS Anti-Money Laundering, NICE Actimize

ThetaRay sells the RAY platform, which it describes as cognitive AI that detects subtle changes in behaviour, transaction trends and relationships to cut unnecessary alerts. Its customer risk assessment is dynamic, updating as behaviour changes instead of at fixed review dates, and it feeds the monitoring side.

ThetaRay Ltd. gives its international headquarters as Hod HaSharon, Israel, with an office in London, and its customer stories name Shift4 and Onafriq, both payment companies. Israel counts as European for this directory but is outside the EU and EEA. The pages give little technical detail, no price and no hosting region, and case management is better covered by Lucinity.

What ThetaRay does well

  • Behaviour-based detection
  • Dynamic customer risk assessment
  • Payment-company references
  • UK office available
  • Single platform name (RAY)

Where ThetaRay falls short

  • No public pricing
  • Not an EU entity
  • Hosting region not stated
  • Little technical detail on its own pages

Standout feature. Its customer risk score is the one that is stated to move with behaviour instead of a review calendar.

#7 ComplyAdvantage

London, United Kingdom Pricing on request Demo on request

Best for: Fintechs and banks wanting SaaS screening data and monitoring

  • Operating company. IVXS UK Limited (trading as ComplyAdvantage)
  • Jurisdiction. United Kingdom (adequacy decision, outside the EEA)
  • Where the data sits. Not stated on pages checked
  • Source code. Closed source
  • Replaces. SAS Anti-Money Laundering, NICE Actimize

ComplyAdvantage delivers a SaaS platform called Mesh that combines its own risk intelligence data with transaction monitoring. Rules can be written in natural language, and agents are said to auto-remediate 65 to 85 percent of false positives, a figure from the vendor's own page. Typologies include money laundering, fraud and human trafficking.

The entity named in its terms and privacy notice is IVXS UK Limited, trading as ComplyAdvantage, with an address on Paul Street in London, so the contract is British and outside the EU. The platform is SaaS only, with no self-hosting stated, and neither price nor hosting region is published. Check how generated natural language rules are reviewed and versioned before you rely on them.

What ComplyAdvantage does well

  • Screening data and monitoring on one platform
  • Natural language rules
  • Agent-based alert handling
  • SaaS deployment
  • UK entity named in legal pages

Where ComplyAdvantage falls short

  • No public pricing
  • Performance figures are vendor claims
  • SaaS only
  • UK entity, outside the EU

Standout feature. It supplies screening data and a monitoring engine under the same platform, with rules written in plain language.

#8 Feedzai

Coimbra, Portugal Pricing on request Demo on request

Best for: Banks, issuers and large payment companies with analyst teams

  • Operating company. Feedzai - Consultadoria e Inovacao Tecnologica, S.A.
  • Jurisdiction. EU (Portugal)
  • Where the data sits. Not stated on the pages read
  • Source code. Closed source
  • Replaces. Sift, FICO, Featurespace

Feedzai sells RiskOps, a platform that groups fraud and scam prevention, identity protection through behavioural and device intelligence, and AML with transaction monitoring and data orchestration. Farol, its AI agent, is described as taking over work on rules, alerts and suspicious activity reports. The references on its site are banks and financial institutions, not online shops.

The controller in its privacy policy is Feedzai - Consultadoria e Inovacao Tecnologica, S.A. in Coimbra, Portugal, though the group also has companies outside Europe. Its site says the European Central Bank selected it to secure the digital euro, which is the vendor's own news item. It targets large institutions with a demo-led sale, and states no price, founding year or data location.

What Feedzai does well

  • Fraud, scam and AML modules in one platform
  • Behavioural and device intelligence
  • AI agent for rules, alerts and SARs
  • Portuguese parent entity in the privacy policy

Where Feedzai falls short

  • Aimed at large financial institutions
  • No public pricing, demo-led
  • Group has non-European entities
  • Founding year and data location not stated

Standout feature. Its AML module sits inside a platform that leads with fraud and scam prevention.

#9 Fenergo

Dublin, Ireland Pricing on request Demo on request

Best for: Banks with complex corporate onboarding and periodic reviews

  • Operating company. Fenergo Limited
  • Jurisdiction. EU (Ireland)
  • Where the data sits. Not stated on pages checked
  • Source code. Closed source
  • Replaces. SAS Anti-Money Laundering customer due diligence, NICE Actimize CDD

Fenergo is a client lifecycle management platform from Dublin that covers onboarding journeys from KYC and risk assessment to outreach and sanctions screening on one governed record. Pre-packaged KYC rules and workflows apply policy to each client type, and the Fen-AI and KYRA agents handle high-volume onboarding tasks.

Fenergo Limited has an office at North Wall Quay in Dublin and others in London, Dubai and New York, so confirm which entity signs. It is closest to the customer due diligence part of AML and is not a full transaction monitoring engine, which means a detection tool such as ThetaRay or Trapets usually sits beside it. Deployments are enterprise projects, and prices and hosting regions are not published.

What Fenergo does well

  • KYC rules engine
  • Onboarding workflow on one platform
  • Fen-AI agents
  • SaaS delivery
  • Irish EU entity

Where Fenergo falls short

  • Not a full transaction monitoring engine
  • No public pricing
  • Enterprise implementation effort
  • US office exists, entity check needed

Standout feature. It is the only tool in this category built around the client file instead of the transaction stream.

#10 Scorechain

Belvaux, Luxembourg Pricing on request; free wallet checks offered Demo on request

Best for: Crypto exchanges, wallets and asset managers

  • Operating company. Scorechain S.A.
  • Jurisdiction. EU (Luxembourg)
  • Where the data sits. Not stated on pages checked
  • Source code. Closed source
  • Replaces. Crypto AML modules of SAS and NICE Actimize

Scorechain is a Luxembourg provider of blockchain analytics for AML. It screens wallet addresses for sanctions exposure and risky counterparties through an API or the platform, and analysts trace funds across networks and map exposure between counterparties. Free wallet checks and tools for individuals make it easy to test.

Scorechain S.A. is registered in Luxembourg (RCS B199146) with its address in Belvaux, and the homepage states 25-plus blockchains covered and 200-plus organisations supported. It handles crypto-asset compliance only, so it does not replace the bank-side monitoring of Napier AI or Trapets, and Elliptic states broader chain coverage. Business pricing and hosting region are not published.

What Scorechain does well

  • EU entity in Luxembourg
  • Wallet screening API
  • Fund tracing tools
  • Free wallet checks
  • Serves businesses and individuals

Where Scorechain falls short

  • Crypto only, not bank AML
  • No public business pricing
  • 25+ blockchains only
  • Hosting region not stated

Standout feature. It is the only EU-registered crypto analytics provider in this category.

#11 Elliptic

London, United Kingdom Pricing on request; free trial offered Demo on request

Best for: Banks, exchanges and payment firms exposed to crypto

  • Operating company. Elliptic Enterprises Limited
  • Jurisdiction. United Kingdom (adequacy decision, outside the EEA)
  • Where the data sits. Not stated on pages checked
  • Source code. Closed source
  • Replaces. Crypto AML modules of SAS and NICE Actimize

Elliptic offers crypto compliance software in three product areas: screening and monitoring of wallets and transactions, stablecoin risk management, and investigations that trace funds and produce evidence reports. Its homepage names banks, crypto companies, payment service providers, governments and law enforcement as audiences.

Elliptic Enterprises Limited is registered in England and Wales (company number 08458210), which is outside the EU, and the homepage states coverage of more than 65 blockchains. It offers a free trial, but business pricing and hosting region are not published. It covers crypto only, so banks need a general monitoring tool such as ThetaRay as well, and Scorechain is the EU-registered alternative.

What Elliptic does well

  • 65+ blockchains stated
  • Screening, monitoring and investigations
  • Stablecoin risk product
  • Free trial offered
  • Serves regulated institutions and authorities

Where Elliptic falls short

  • Crypto only
  • UK entity, outside the EU
  • No public pricing
  • Hosting region not stated

Standout feature. Its separate stablecoin risk product has no counterpart elsewhere in this category.

Which European AML tool replaces a full suite such as SAS Anti-Money Laundering?

Only two products here are built as suites. Trapets sells transaction monitoring, KYC and due diligence, sanctions and PEP screening and market surveillance, and IMTF's Siron One lists KYC, AML monitoring, sanctions screening, fraud detection, trade finance and tax compliance as modules institutions can select. Both are contracted with a bank-sized buyer in mind, and neither publishes a price.

Everything else is narrower on purpose. Salv and Napier AI cover monitoring and screening, Lucinity covers the case, Fenergo covers the client file, and Scorechain and Elliptic cover blockchain exposure. Replacing a suite with several of these is possible, but it moves integration work to you, so list the SAS functions you actually use before you shortlist.

How do you choose between suite, modular and API-first AML vendors?

Start from what you already own. A firm with a working case manager can buy Napier AI as an API behind it, because the vendor sells an enterprise platform, a plug-and-play version and APIs separately. A firm with nothing in place is better served by Trapets or IMTF, which bring the surrounding workflow with them.

Salv sits in between: customer staff edit rules, thresholds and segments themselves, so it suits a team with in-house compliance analysts who want control over detection. The wrong choice is usually the product that is wider than the problem, since you pay for modules you will not switch on.

Does a European vendor mean EU jurisdiction for AML data?

Not always, and the list shows why. Trapets, Salv, Feedzai, Fenergo and Scorechain are registered in EU member states. Lucinity is registered in Iceland, which is in the EEA but not the EU, and its group also owns a US company. Napier AI, ComplyAdvantage and Elliptic are British, IMTF is Swiss, and ThetaRay is Israeli.

For EU institutions the non-EU suppliers sit under UK GDPR, Swiss law or Israeli law, which is workable but is a third-country transfer question for your data protection officer. Ask each vendor which entity signs your contract, because Lucinity, Feedzai and Fenergo all have group companies outside Europe.

What does AML software cost, and how should you compare quotes?

No vendor in this category publishes a price, so there is nothing to put in a spreadsheet yet. The only free entry points are Scorechain's free wallet checks and Elliptic's free trial, and both are about testing crypto data, not about running a monitoring programme.

Ask every shortlisted vendor to price the same scenario: your transaction volume, your customer count, the modules you want and the number of analyst seats. Then ask which unit they charge on, because comparing a per-transaction quote with a per-module licence tells you nothing.

When should an institution not switch to a European AML tool?

When the current system works and the only argument for leaving is where the vendor is registered. Monitoring logic is tuned over years, regulators expect continuity, and alert volume usually rises after a migration before it falls. A bank can instead ask its incumbent for the deployment region and contracting entity and decide on facts.

It is also a poor moment to switch ahead of an audit or a licence renewal. If you do move, run the old and new engines on the same transactions for a full cycle, and keep historic alerts and case notes for the retention period your supervisor sets.

How do you prove a vendor's detection claims before you sign?

Treat every figure on a vendor page as a hypothesis. ComplyAdvantage says its agents auto-remediate 65 to 85 percent of false positives, Napier AI says it serves more than 150 institutions, IMTF claims a low cost of ownership. Those are the vendors' own statements, and none of them was measured on your data.

The fair test is a replay of your own history: a sample of past alerts and confirmed cases fed to two or three vendors, then compared on alerts raised, cases found and cases missed. Ask how each model's decisions are explained to an auditor, since a score without a reason will not satisfy an examiner.

How we selected and ranked these 11 tools

Every tool on this page is in the European Purpose directory, which means the operating company is established in Europe and we have verified that from the company register or the vendor's own legal notice rather than from a marketing page. Tools headquartered outside Europe are not eligible, however good they are.

  1. Feature verification (weight: 40%). We check each capability against the vendor's own documentation and product pages, and record what the tool does rather than what the category is assumed to include.
  2. Ease of adoption (weight: 30%). Integrations, published API access, trial availability and how much configuration stands between signing and a usable result.
  3. Value and transparency (weight: 30%). Published pricing counts in a vendor's favour; quote-only pricing is recorded as quote-only rather than estimated. We weigh what a buyer gets for the entry price, not the headline feature count.
  4. Editorial review. Every page is researched and drafted with AI assistance, and the compliance and pricing claims are checked against the vendor's documentation before it is published under the founder's editorial responsibility. The three weights above decide the order; a position is a ranking against the other European tools in this category, not an absolute score.

Vendor-reported outcomes — ROI figures, margin uplift, time saved — are labelled as vendor claims wherever they appear on this page. We have not audited them, and neither has anyone else who quotes them. Read our full editorial process for how pages are re-verified.

Frequently asked questions

The best European AML and transaction monitoring software in this directory is Lucinity, an Icelandic platform for investigation and case management. Trapets, Salv, Napier AI and IMTF follow it, and the right choice depends on whether you need a full suite (Trapets, IMTF), editable rules (Salv), modular screening (Napier AI) or the case workspace (Lucinity).

Trapets (Sweden), Salv (Estonia), Feedzai (Portugal), Fenergo (Ireland) and Scorechain (Luxembourg) are registered in EU member states. Lucinity is registered in Iceland, which is in the EEA but not the EU. Napier AI, ComplyAdvantage and Elliptic are British, IMTF is Swiss and ThetaRay is Israeli.

Scorechain from Luxembourg and Elliptic from London are the two crypto specialists. Scorechain screens wallet addresses through an API and states coverage of more than 25 blockchains, while Elliptic states more than 65 and adds a stablecoin risk product. Both cover crypto only, so a bank pairs either with a general monitoring tool.

No. All eleven list pricing on request and sell through a demo. Scorechain offers free wallet checks and Elliptic a free trial, but business pricing at both is a quote. Ask each vendor for the charging unit, such as per transaction, per customer or per module.

Yes, two of them. Feedzai, from Portugal, groups fraud and scam prevention, identity protection and AML in one platform. Salv, from Estonia, offers AML and fraud detection for account-to-account, instant and card payments. IMTF's Siron One also lists real-time fraud detection among its use cases.

Fenergo, from Ireland, is the one built around client lifecycle management, with KYC rules, onboarding journeys and sanctions screening. It is not a transaction monitoring engine, so banks pair it with a monitoring tool such as ThetaRay, Trapets or Napier AI.
