Detailed Review
SimScale moves the whole simulation workflow, from CAD upload to results, into a browser tab. Computation runs on the vendor's cloud, so a laptop is enough to set up and review a case, and nothing has to be installed or licensed per machine.
The company is SimScale GmbH, registered in Munich (HRB 201813), and describes itself as co-founded in a Munich flat in 2012 by five engineers. That makes it one of the older cloud-native entrants in a field where the incumbents sell desktop installations.
Physics Covered
The pricing page lists static, frequency, harmonic and dynamic structural analysis, heat transfer and thermomechanical cases, incompressible and compressible fluid flow, convective and conjugate heat transfer, and a multi-purpose fluid solver. Electromagnetics is offered as a CAE add-on and the product pages describe it as low-frequency only.
Coupled fluid, thermal and structural cases are supported, which covers the typical Ansys Fluent plus Mechanical combination for design-stage studies.
Plans and Access
A free Community plan allows 10 unrestricted simulations and up to 2,000 core hours on selected analysis types. Paid plans (Mechanical for structural and thermal work, Professional with fluids, Enterprise with Engineering AI and Physics AI) show "request pricing" rather than a price list.
Because everything is browser-based, collaboration on a shared project needs no file exchange, and a trial costs a user account rather than a licence server.
AI Layer and Security
SimScale now positions itself as an AI-native platform, with a Physics AI product for surrogate models and an Engineering AI layer for workflow automation. These features sit in the Enterprise tier.
The security page states AES-encrypted storage for CAD and simulation data and a completed SOC 2 Type II audit of SimScale GmbH by Prescient Assurance.
Limitations to Consider
SimScale is cloud-only: the pages I checked show no on-premise or self-hosted option, and the vendor does not publish where the cloud data is stored. Paid plans have no public prices, and the free Community plan is limited to selected analysis types. Electromagnetics is low-frequency only, so high-frequency RF work needs a different tool such as Quanscient. Explicit crash dynamics of the Ansys LS-DYNA kind are not on the physics list.
Who Should Use SimScale
Design engineers and small engineering teams in Europe that want CFD and structural analysis from a European vendor without hardware investment.
Pros and Cons
Pros
- Runs entirely in a browser, no installation
- Free Community plan for evaluation and learning
- Fluid, structural and thermal physics in one project
- SOC 2 Type II audit by a named assessor
- German GmbH with a published commercial register entry
Cons
- No self-hosted option found
- Paid pricing only on request
- Electromagnetics limited to low frequency
- Cloud-only, so models always leave your network

Frequently Asked Questions
There is a Community plan at no cost, limited to selected analysis types, 10 simulations and up to 2,000 core hours. Mechanical, Professional and Enterprise plans are priced on request.
For fluid, structural, thermal and coupled design-stage studies it covers the same ground in the cloud. Specialised solvers such as explicit crash dynamics or high-frequency electromagnetics are not on its physics list.
On its own cloud platform in a browser. The vendor documents AES encryption and a SOC 2 Type II audit, but the pages I checked do not name the hosting region.
