Detailed Review
Mythic Beasts is a hosting provider from Cambridge that describes itself as a privately owned hosting ISP for technically capable customers.
It was started in 2000 by a group of Oxford and Cambridge graduates and states that it has never taken external investment, with more than 90% of the shares held by its founders. Mythic Beasts sells web and email hosting in nine web sizes, from Web 25 with 5 GB of disk and one database to Web 400 with 400 GB and 20 databases, with unlimited domains, unlimited mailboxes, several PHP versions and optional shell access.
The company is Mythic Beasts Limited, registered at Companies House under number 04052652 and incorporated on 14 August 2000, with a registered address at 45 Argyle Street, Cambridge.
Mythic Beasts states that all of its hosting servers are in UK data centres, connected to its own fibre ring around London, Amsterdam and Cambridge, and that its data centres buy as much renewable energy as they use, a claim it says the Green Web Foundation has verified. It also runs a separate network from a data centre in Fremont, California.
Web hosting prices are listed excluding VAT, from GBP 2.50 per month for Web 25 to GBP 10 for Web 100 and GBP 40 for Web 400.
Daily backups are taken, and Mythic Beasts guarantees a restore to a state no more than 36 hours before a server failure. The pages read state no trial or refund period, and the hosting terms read do not give the governing law. Mythic Beasts suits developers and technical owners; buyers who want a bundled, graphical shared-hosting offer will find less.
