European Alternatives to OpenTable, Resy and SevenRooms - Restaurant Reservation (2026) | European Purpose

European Restaurant Reservation Alternatives

Restaurant reservation software takes bookings online and by phone, keeps the table plan and guest list in one place, and sends the reminders that cut no-shows.

The best-known names, OpenTable, Resy and SevenRooms, are American, and a reservation book holds exactly what a restaurant should keep close: guest names, phone numbers, allergies and visit history.

This list covers eleven European options, eight inside the EU (France, the Netherlands, Denmark, Germany, Malta, Lithuania and Spain) plus two Swiss and one British. Most advertise no commission per cover, several have a free plan, and each entry says plainly where the company sits and what the vendor does and does not publish about price.

How we rank these tools — 4-step process
  1. 1
    European ownership, verified

The company is headquartered and incorporated in the EU, EEA or Switzerland, and processes customer data in Europe. A US parent company disqualifies a tool from this page regardless of where its servers are.

  2. 2
    Category fit and hands-on review

What the tool actually does, who it suits, and where it falls short — checked against the vendor’s own documentation, changelog and pricing page rather than its marketing copy.

  3. 3
    Compliance and pricing check

GDPR posture, hosting location and the prices quoted on this page are verified against the vendor’s public pricing before publication, and re-checked when we revisit the category.

  4. 4
    Position on this page

Placement on this page can be paid, and that can affect the order tools appear in. It never buys a listing: a tool that fails the checks above is not here at any price, and payment does not change the shortcomings we write about. A vendor can ask us to correct a factual error — not to remove a criticism.

Vendors can pay for visibility on this page. It never changes what an entry says about a product, including the criticism, and we earn nothing when you click through to a vendor. Paid placement can affect the order in which tools appear; it never affects whether a tool is listed. Editorial policy

Key takeaways

  • Zenchef ranks #1 among the European restaurant reservation systems in this directory, because it has the widest scope (reservations, payments, insights, a consumer app and a call assistant), states "€0 commission per cover" on its plans page, and has absorbed Formitable and Resengo since 2024. Its weak point is that it publishes no subscription amount.
  • Eight of the eleven are inside the EU: France, the Netherlands, Denmark (two), Germany, Malta, Lithuania and Spain. Foratable and aleno are Swiss and ResDiary is British, which is European but outside the EU and the EEA.
  • Three have a free plan or tier with no time limit: Resos (25 bookings a month), resmio (Basic) and Tableo (up to 100 covers a month). Guestplan offers a 30-day free trial instead.
  • Five publish real subscription amounts: Guestplan (€49.99 and €109.99), Resos (€45, €85 and €125), resmio (€69.90 and €129.90), Tablein (€67, €117 and €177) and Foratable (CHF 115 and CHF 180). Zenchef, CoverManager, aleno, ResDiary and DinnerBooking ask for a demo or show add-on prices only.
  • Commission is the main difference from marketplace models: seven of the eleven state on their own pages that bookings carry no commission or cover fee. Quandoo, one of the larger European marketplaces, has closed its platform.
  • None of these has the consumer reach of OpenTable in the United States. Zenchef (its own app) and Foratable (bookable on lunchgate.ch) are the two that tie reservations to a guest-facing marketplace, and DinnerBooking is itself one.

European restaurant reservation software is software that takes table bookings online and by phone, manages the table plan and the guest list, and sends reminders, sold or operated by a company established in Europe, so that the vendor sits under European law rather than American. The category is mixed.

It covers free-to-start booking books, all-in-one restaurant platforms, AI-led systems for groups and hotels, and a consumer booking marketplace with a restaurant system behind it. This directory lists eleven and states, for each, where the company sits, what it charges where it publishes a price, and what it does and does not say about commission.

#1 Zenchef

Paris, France The plans page states "€0 commission per cover"; subscription amounts are not shown on the page and are given on demo

Best for: Restaurants that want one platform for reservations and payments

  • Operating company. Zenchef SAS, SIREN 528 389 794, VAT FR50528389794
  • Jurisdiction. EU (France)
  • Where the data sits. France (company, 63 avenue de Villiers, 75017 Paris); the hosting country for guest data is not stated on the pages checked
  • Source code. Closed source
  • Replaces. OpenTable, SevenRooms, Resy

Zenchef is the widest platform in this directory. Its pages describe Reserve (bookings and table service), Promote (campaigns and online presence), Pay (payment tools to reduce no-shows), Insights, Connect (guest communication) and a new AI module, plus a consumer Zenchef app where guests discover and book restaurants. The plans page lists a booking widget, Reserve with Google and a 24/7 call assist, and states "€0 commission per cover".

The publisher is Zenchef SAS, a simplified joint-stock company with a capital of €3,051,203.32, registered in Paris under number 528 389 794, at 63 avenue de Villiers, 75017 Paris, VAT FR50528389794. Zenchef says that Formitable, Resengo and Zenchef have been one platform since 2024, and it offers "switch from" pages for GuestPlan, TheFork and OpenTable.

The weak spot is price. The plans page names features but no subscription amount, so you reach a number through a demo. The pages read also do not name a hosting country for guest data, and the platform is more than a small restaurant needs if it only wants a booking book.

What Zenchef does well

  • Reservations, payments, insights and a guest app in one platform
  • "€0 commission per cover" stated on the plans page
  • Full company details: SAS, capital, Paris register number, VAT number
  • Has absorbed Formitable and Resengo, so the customer base is large
  • Switch-over pages for GuestPlan, TheFork and OpenTable

Where Zenchef falls short

  • No subscription amount on the plans page
  • Hosting country for guest data not stated on the pages read
  • More platform than a one-room restaurant needs

Deposits carry a fee through Mollie or Stripe: €2.99 on Pro and €0.99 on Business. The pages read do not state where guest data is stored, and there is no free forever tier, only the trial.

  • Two published prices, monthly, quarterly or yearly
  • 30-day free trial with no credit card
  • No commission or cover fees stated
  • Unlimited reservations on both plans

  • Free forever plan with all core features
  • No commission or cover fees
  • CVR number and Danish governing law in the terms
  • 90-day money-back guarantee on paid plans
  • Public developer API and 17 interface languages

Where Resos falls short

  • Free plan limited to 25 bookings a month
  • Add-ons are not available on the free plan
  • First-month promotion makes the headline price misleading
  • Hosting country not stated

Standout feature. It has a free forever plan with every core feature, from a Danish company with a CVR number and Danish governing law.

  • Free Basic tier with online reservations and vouchers
  • No fees on reservations or guests
  • Full German commercial register entry and VAT number

  • Source code. Closed source
  • Replaces. OpenTable, SevenRooms

ResDiary lists commission-free bookings, a customisable booking widget, table management, yield management, promotions and special events, credit card guarantee and payment, customisable notifications, advanced reporting, marketing software integration, 24/7 support and unlimited users. Add-ons Order & Pay, Gift Vouchers, ResPhone and Event Manager are €40 per month each, and built-in SMS is €10 per month.

The site footer names Access UK Ltd, company number 02343760, registered office The Armstrong Building, 10 Oakwood Drive, Loughborough LE11 3QF, and links the Access Group terms and the ResDiary product terms. It runs separate regional sites for the UK, Ireland, Europe, Global and APAC.

The base plan amount was not shown on the page read, only the add-ons. The product sits inside the larger Access Group, so it is not an independent specialist, and the United Kingdom is outside the EU and the EEA. The pages read do not state a hosting country for guest data.

What ResDiary does well

  • Commission-free bookings with unlimited users
  • Yield management and credit card guarantee
  • UK company number and registered office stated
  • Regional sites for the UK, Ireland and Europe
  • Add-on prices published

Where ResDiary falls short

  • Base subscription amount not shown on the page read
  • Part of a larger group rather than an independent specialist
  • United Kingdom is outside the EU and the EEA
  • Hosting country not stated

Standout feature. It prices every add-on in the open and offers yield management, from a company with a UK register number.

#11 DinnerBooking

Copenhagen, Denmark Not published on the pages read; the restaurant site points to a plans section without amounts

Best for: Danish venues that want a marketplace and a booking system

  • Operating company. DinnerBooking ApS
  • Jurisdiction. EU (Denmark)
  • Where the data sits. Denmark (private limited company under Danish law, Lyongade 21, 2300 Copenhagen S); the CVR number was not stated in the terms read, and the hosting country for guest data is not stated
  • Source code. Closed source
  • Replaces. OpenTable

DinnerBooking is a consumer booking site with a restaurant system behind it. For restaurants the pages describe a customisable online booking system, mobile apps for managing reservations, a loyalty point system, an event system for selling tickets, gift cards, a feedback module and a heatmap of the busiest booking times. The consumer site advertises free reservations around the clock.

The terms describe DinnerBooking ApS as a private limited company registered under Danish law with headquarters in Copenhagen, and the restaurant site gives the address Lyongade 21, 2300 Copenhagen S. The terms read did not state a CVR number.

No prices were shown on the pages read, only a pointer to a plans section, and the restaurant site could not be fetched in full. This is the thinnest entry here, so ask for terms and prices in writing and check the Danish register yourself.

What DinnerBooking does well

  • Consumer marketplace and restaurant system in one
  • Loyalty points, event tickets and gift cards
  • Heatmap of the busiest booking times
  • Danish company address in Copenhagen
  • Mobile apps for staff

Where DinnerBooking falls short

  • No prices published on the pages read
  • CVR number not stated in the terms read
  • Thinnest documentation of the eleven
  • Marketplace model may involve different terms than a pure booking tool

Standout feature. It is the one entry that is itself a consumer booking marketplace, with a restaurant system attached.

What does "European restaurant reservation system" actually mean?

It means the company that sells or operates the software is established in Europe, checked in its own imprint, terms or privacy policy. That is narrower than "built by Europeans" and broader than "guest data stays in Europe". A system can be run by a French SAS, a Dutch BV or a Maltese Ltd, and the legal form tells you who you contract with.

It does not tell you where data is hosted. Most vendors here do not state a hosting country on the pages read, so none is claimed. If hosting matters, ask for the sub-processor list and the data processing agreement before you sign.

The honest summary is that Europe has a good spread of focused reservation tools and two or three platform suites, but no single vendor with the guest reach of OpenTable. The ranking reflects scope and transparency, not a claim that any of them equals the incumbents everywhere.

Which one replaces OpenTable, which replaces SevenRooms?

For a single restaurant that wants a booking widget, Reserve with Google and no commission, Resos, resmio, Tableo and Guestplan are the closest. All four state that bookings carry no commission or cover fee, and three have a free tier or trial.

For groups and hotels that want guest profiles, deposits, revenue tools and integrations, CoverManager, aleno, Zenchef, Foratable and ResDiary are the nearer matches to SevenRooms. They mostly sell on demo, so the price comparison happens in a sales call.

Neither comparison is exact. None of the vendors claims to match an American incumbent feature for feature on the pages read, so test the features you actually use.

How should I compare prices?

Check what the plan counts. Resos and Tablein price by bookings per month, Tableo counts covers, Guestplan and resmio price by feature tier, and Foratable by Basic and Professional with priced add-ons. A 40-seat bistro and a 300-cover club can end up on different plans of the same tool.

Check add-ons. Deposits and payments carry fees at Guestplan (€2.99 on Pro, €0.99 on Business via Mollie or Stripe) and Foratable (CHF 0.25 per card check and CHF 0.50 per payment transaction). ResDiary add-ons are €40 a month each. SMS is a separate charge at several vendors.

Read the first-month promotions with care. Resos shows a 50% reduction on the first month, so the headline €23, €43 and €63 are not the running price.

What happened to Quandoo, Formitable and Resengo?

Quandoo GmbH i.L. says on its own site that it has completed its planned closure and the platform is no longer available, with guest queries accepted until 31 December 2026. It is not listed.

Formitable and Resengo say on their own pages that they are the same platform as Zenchef since 2024. They are covered by the Zenchef entry rather than listed as separate products.

How we selected and ranked these 11 tools

Every tool on this page is in the European Purpose directory, which means the operating company is established in Europe and we have verified that from the company register or the vendor's own legal notice rather than from a marketing page. Tools headquartered outside Europe are not eligible, however good they are.

  1. Feature verification (weight: 40%). We check each capability against the vendor's own documentation and product pages, and record what the tool does rather than what the category is assumed to include.
  2. Ease of adoption (weight: 30%). Integrations, published API access, trial availability and how much configuration stands between signing and a usable result.
  3. Value and transparency (weight: 30%). Published pricing counts in a vendor's favour; quote-only pricing is recorded as quote-only rather than estimated. We weigh what a buyer gets for the entry price, not the headline feature count.
  4. Editorial review. Three people touch every page: one writes it, a second edits it, and a third checks the compliance and pricing claims against the vendor's documentation. The three weights above decide the order; a position is a ranking against the other European tools in this category, not an absolute score.

Vendor-reported outcomes — ROI figures, margin uplift, time saved — are labelled as vendor claims wherever they appear on this page. We have not audited them, and neither has anyone else who quotes them. Read our full editorial process for how pages are re-verified.

Frequently asked questions

Zenchef holds #1 among the European restaurant reservation systems in this directory, because it combines reservations, payments, insights and a consumer app in one French platform with no commission per cover. The right answer depends on the job: Resos or resmio for a small restaurant on a free tier, Guestplan for clear published pricing, CoverManager or aleno for groups and hotels.

Yes. Zenchef (France), Guestplan (Netherlands), Resos (Denmark) and resmio (Germany) all advertise no commission or cover fees. None has OpenTable's consumer reach in the United States, so the question is whether you need a marketplace or only a booking system for your own guests.

For groups and hotels, CoverManager (Spain), aleno (Switzerland), Zenchef (France), Foratable (Switzerland) and ResDiary (United Kingdom) are the closest in scope. All five sell mainly on demo or on tiers that include integrations, so ask for a trial on your own data.

Resos has a free forever plan of 25 bookings a month, resmio has a free Basic tier, and Tableo has a freemium plan for up to 100 covers a month. Guestplan offers a 30-day free trial. The others are paid or priced on demand.

Most state that they do not. Zenchef, Guestplan, Resos, resmio, Tableo, CoverManager and ResDiary each say so on their own pages. Tablein charges per extra reservation above its plan allowance, and Foratable charges for AI phone calls and for payment transactions on its add-ons.

Eight of eleven: Zenchef (France), Guestplan (Netherlands), Resos and DinnerBooking (Denmark), resmio (Germany), Tableo (Malta), Tablein (Lithuania) and CoverManager (Spain). Foratable and aleno are Swiss, and ResDiary is British.

Resos, resmio, Tableo and Guestplan: they publish prices or offer a free tier, and each pitches itself at small restaurants as well as larger ones. Tablein's Starter plan (€67 a month for 50 reservations) is aimed at very small venues with few bookings.

aleno targets hotels and restaurant groups explicitly, Zenchef has a restaurant-group solution, CoverManager lists group, chain, hotel and large-event segments, and ResDiary and Foratable also list hotels and groups. Tablein lists hotel restaurants and restaurant groups as well.

The vendors do not say on the pages read. Each states its contracting company and country, but not a hosting country, so none is claimed here. Ask for the sub-processor list and the data processing agreement before signing.
