European Compliance Automation Tools

Compliance automation platforms collect evidence from your cloud, identity and HR systems and map it to ISO 27001, SOC 2, NIS2 and similar frameworks. They hold a complete picture of your security weaknesses, which makes the vendor's jurisdiction and hosting location relevant. These European alternatives to Vanta are built around ISO 27001, GDPR, NIS2 and DORA, and the contracting entity of each is in the EU, the UK or Switzerland.

How we rank these tools — 4-step process
  1. 1
    European ownership, verified

The company is headquartered and incorporated in the EU, EEA or Switzerland, and processes customer data in Europe. A US parent company disqualifies a tool from this page regardless of where its servers are.

  2. 2
    Category fit and hands-on review

What the tool actually does, who it suits, and where it falls short — checked against the vendor’s own documentation, changelog and pricing page rather than its marketing copy.

  3. 3
    Compliance and pricing check

GDPR posture, hosting location and the prices quoted on this page are verified against the vendor’s public pricing before publication, and re-checked when we revisit the category.

  4. 4
    Position on this page

Placement on this page can be paid, and that can affect the order tools appear in. It never buys a listing: a tool that fails the checks above is not here at any price, and payment does not change the shortcomings we write about. A vendor can ask us to correct a factual error — not to remove a criticism.

Vendors can pay for visibility on this page. It never changes what an entry says about a product, including the criticism, and we earn nothing when you click through to a vendor. Paid placement can affect the order in which tools appear; it never affects whether a tool is listed. Editorial policy

Key takeaways

  • Secfix ranks #1 in this directory because the Munich company states it operates exclusively on European cloud infrastructure, pairs a 250+ check automation layer with its own auditors and engineers, and covers ISO 27001, NIS2, DORA and TISAX in one German contract.
  • Cyberday and Conformio are the two tools here that put hard numbers on the page for a small company: Cyberday starts at EUR 3,200 a year for fewer than 20 employees, and Conformio's Starter plan is EUR 145 a month, while Secfix, Kertos, secjur and DataGuard all require a sales conversation.
  • CISO Assistant from the French company intuitem and eramba are the cheapest routes in: CISO Assistant's community edition is free under AGPLv3, and eramba's Enterprise on-premises edition is a flat EUR 2,500 a year with unlimited users, but both expect someone on your team to know GRC.
  • ISMS.online and Hicomply are the two UK entries, contracting through Alliantist Limited and Hicomply Ltd in England and Wales, which puts them under the UK adequacy decision rather than inside the EEA, and ISMS.online lists data centres in the USA and Australia alongside the UK primary site.
  • DataGuard, heyData and Orbiq answer different questions from the ISO 27001 platforms: DataGuard and heyData focus on GDPR work such as the processing register and an appointed data protection officer, and Orbiq focuses on the trust center and vendor questionnaires that customers now send to suppliers.

European compliance automation software is the category of platforms that help a company prepare for and maintain ISO 27001, NIS2, DORA, TISAX, SOC 2 and GDPR obligations by turning policies, risks, controls and evidence into tracked workflows, built by a vendor established in Europe, which matters because the platform holds a complete map of your security weaknesses and the contract, supervisory authority and hosting region that govern it should sit under European law.

#1 Secfix

Munich, Germany Not published, see website Demo on request

Best for: European startups and SMEs aiming for ISO 27001, TISAX or NIS2

  • Operating company. Secfix GmbH
  • Jurisdiction. EU (Germany)
  • Where the data sits. EU (European cloud infrastructure, per Secfix security page)
  • Source code. Closed source
  • Replaces. Vanta, Drata, Secureframe

Secfix is a Munich platform for ISO 27001, NIS2 and TISAX that generates a checklist of 250+ checks and runs it against connected AWS, Google Cloud, Azure, Microsoft 365, Azure AD, Google Workspace and Jira accounts.

Risk assessments link to more than 100 pre-mapped controls, policy management ships 20+ customisable templates with acceptance tracking, and vendor management can find new suppliers through Google Workspace or Office 365 single sign-on. Employee onboarding, offboarding and security training sit in the same workflow, so a joiner or leaver changes the evidence record without a separate spreadsheet.

Secfix GmbH is registered in the Munich commercial register, and the security page says customer data is stored and processed within the EU on exclusively European cloud infrastructure, with no transfer outside the EEA without a documented legal basis.

The about page describes auditors, engineers and customer success managers in Munich, Berlin, London and other cities. The framework list on the homepage runs from ISO 27001, SOC 2 and TISAX to DORA, ISO 42001 and ISO 9001. No price is published, and the pages do not state a founding year or named customers, so a demo is the only way to compare cost.

What Secfix does well

  • Hosted exclusively on European cloud infrastructure
  • Covers ISO 27001, NIS2, DORA, TISAX and GDPR
  • Experts available alongside the software
  • Vendor and risk management included
  • German GmbH with a public commercial register entry

Where Secfix falls short

  • Pricing not published
  • No self-hosting
  • Integration catalogue is smaller than the large US platforms (inferred, not verified)
  • Aimed at SME and mid-market

Standout feature. Secfix is the only tool here that combines a stated European-only hosting commitment with a 250+ check automation layer and in-house auditors in one German contract.

#2 Kertos

Munich, Germany Tailored pricing on request, three tiers (Essential, Pro, Premium) Demo on request

Best for: Mid-sized European companies that want software plus expert support

  • Operating company. Kertos GmbH
  • Jurisdiction. EU (Germany)
  • Where the data sits. European AWS infrastructure (per Kertos)
  • Source code. Closed source
  • Replaces. Vanta, Drata

Kertos is a Munich and Berlin compliance platform whose pitch is software plus certified people, with an AI agent called KAIA that drafts policies, checks evidence and shows gaps.

The platform covers an ISMS, an AI management system, records of processing, DPIAs and technical and organisational measures, and the framework list includes ISO 27001, ISO 27701, ISO 42001, GDPR, NIS2, the EU AI Act, SOC 2, TISAX and C5. Business continuity management and an automated ISMS are named among the information security features.

Kertos GmbH is a German company, and its comparison page says the product is made in Germany and hosted on European AWS infrastructure, which means an EU region of a US-owned provider. Pricing is tailored with three tiers called Essential, Pro and Premium.

Essential is the platform with agentic automation and customer success support, and the higher tiers add certified experts during implementation, on-demand expert support, a yearly audit and compliance status report, incident response and an appointed external DPO. The pages do not state a founding year or named customers, and the expert tiers cost more than a software-only tool.

What Kertos does well

  • Wide framework list including C5 and TISAX
  • Certified experts and external DPO on higher tiers
  • Hosted on European infrastructure
  • German GmbH, public register entry
  • AI agent for policies and evidence

Where Kertos falls short

  • Pricing only on request
  • No self-hosted option
  • Expert tiers raise cost
  • Hosted on a US-owned cloud provider's EU region (AWS)

Standout feature. Kertos is the only tool here that lists both C5 and an appointed external data protection officer inside the same tiered offer.

#3 ISMS.online

Brighton, United Kingdom Bespoke plans, quote on request Demo on request

Best for: Organisations new to ISO 27001 that want a guided method

  • Operating company. Alliantist Limited (ISMS.online)
  • Jurisdiction. United Kingdom (adequacy decision, outside the EEA)
  • Where the data sits. Primary data centre in the UK; further centres in Europe, USA and Australia
  • Source code. Closed source
  • Replaces. Vanta, Drata

ISMS.online is a Brighton-based platform, now branded IO on the site, that walks an organisation from gap analysis to certification using what it calls the ARM methodology and pre-configured templates for each major framework.

It supports ISO 27001, ISO 9001, NIS 2, ISO 42001, ISO 27701, DORA, ISO 22301 and SOC 2, and customer stories describe organisations running ISO 27001, ISO 9001 and ISO 45001 together by linking shared evidence, documents and corrective actions. The company says it used its own platform to maintain its ISO 27001 certification.

Contracting goes through Alliantist Limited, registered in England and Wales under company number 04922343 with its registered office in Brighton, so this is a UK entity under the adequacy decision and not an EU one.

The trust centre page names a primary UK hosting supplier and further data centres in Europe, the USA and Australia, which makes region selection a question to settle before signing. The plans page is a bespoke quote, and from the public pages the approach is built around the ISMS process rather than deep automated technical checks.

What ISMS.online does well

  • Long-established ISMS platform
  • Wide framework list including NIS 2 and DORA
  • Guided certification path
  • Templates for every major framework
  • Support from compliance specialists

Where ISMS.online falls short

  • Pricing on request only
  • UK entity, not EU
  • Data centres listed outside Europe too
  • No self-hosting

Standout feature. ISMS.online is the one tool here built around a named step-by-step certification method, with multi-standard evidence reuse across ISO 27001, 9001 and 45001.

#4 Cyberday

Tampere, Finland From EUR 3,200/year for under 20 employees (EUR 267/month billed annually); EUR 4,500/year for 20-49 Demo on request

Best for: Small and mid-sized companies wanting transparent per-company pricing

  • Operating company. Cyberday Inc.
  • Jurisdiction. EU (Finland)
  • Where the data sits. EU data centers
  • Source code. Closed source
  • Replaces. Vanta, Drata, Secureframe

Cyberday is a Finnish ISMS platform that prices by employee count, arguing that security is a company-wide effort and not a seat-based one.

Published tiers are EUR 3,200 a year for fewer than 20 employees (EUR 267 a month billed annually), EUR 4,500 for 20 to 49 and EUR 6,800 for 50 to 99, with monthly billing about 20 percent higher. A 14-day free trial with all features needs no credit card, which makes it the easiest tool in this list to test without a sales call.

Cyberday Inc. is identified in its terms with a Finnish business ID and an address on Kalevantie in Tampere, and orders are governed by Finnish law. The security page states all data is stored in EU data centers.

The framework collection spans NIS2, GDPR, DORA, the Cyber Resilience Act and the CER directive on the EU side and ISO 27001, SOC 2, NIST CSF, CIS 18 and TISAX globally, with a comparison tool showing how the frameworks overlap. Security tasks, report automation, vendor assessments, internal audits and management reviews are included, but the public pages do not show the technical evidence collection of cloud-focused rivals, and there is no self-hosting.

What Cyberday does well

  • Public pricing by employee count
  • All data in EU data centers
  • Very wide framework library
  • Free 14-day trial without card
  • Finnish entity under Finnish law

Where Cyberday falls short

  • Price grows with headcount
  • Less visible technical automation than cloud-focused tools
  • No self-hosting
  • Terms specify arbitration in Helsinki in Finnish

Standout feature. Cyberday is the only tool here that publishes tiered prices by employee count, with all features open in a 14-day trial that needs no card.

#5 Hicomply

Durham, United Kingdom Founded 2019 Plans start from GBP 5,300 per year Demo on request

Best for: UK and European mid-size firms pursuing ISO 27001 and SOC 2

  • Operating company. Hicomply Ltd
  • Jurisdiction. United Kingdom (adequacy decision, outside the EEA)
  • Where the data sits. Not stated on the pages reviewed
  • Source code. Closed source
  • Replaces. Vanta, Drata, Secureframe

Hicomply is a UK platform that includes a dedicated customer success manager on every plan. It connects 75+ tools to pull evidence, has an AI copilot that drafts, maps and checks, and runs cloud control monitoring across accounts. The Enterprise plan adds unlimited integrations and custom workflows, and the framework list includes ISO 27001, SOC 2, DORA, PCI DSS, NIST CSF, NHS DSPT and ISO 42001.

Hicomply Ltd is registered in England and Wales under company number 12364000, its terms are under English law, and the about page gives 2019 as the founding year with a global HQ in North Shields and a registered address in Durham.

Plans start from GBP 5,300 annually in Essentials, Professional and Enterprise tiers, though the plans page shows slightly inconsistent figures for the same tier. The company has opened a Denver office, the pages reviewed do not state a data location, and NIS2 framing is less central than at German vendors, so confirm the contracting entity and hosting region in writing.

What Hicomply does well

  • Published starting price
  • Customer success manager on every plan
  • 75+ integrations
  • Wide framework list including DORA
  • No per-seat fees stated

Where Hicomply falls short

  • Data location not stated on pages reviewed
  • UK entity, not EU
  • Plans page figures inconsistent
  • US office opened, check contracting entity

Standout feature. Hicomply is the only tool here that lists NHS DSPT and CAF next to ISO 27001 and SOC 2, with a named human contact on every plan.

#6 secjur

Hamburg, Germany On request Demo on request

Best for: German-speaking SMEs that want a self-service ISMS with optional experts

  • Operating company. secjur GmbH
  • Jurisdiction. EU (Germany)
  • Where the data sits. Germany
  • Source code. Closed source
  • Replaces. Vanta, Drata

secjur is a Hamburg-based Digital Compliance Office that guides customers through ISO 27001, TISAX, NIS2 and DORA with step-by-step assistants, so a company without a CISO can work through the process alone. More than ten standards are cross-mapped, custom frameworks can be built, and over 60 API connections let audits be partially automated and generate recommendations on demand. Adjacent modules cover data protection, whistleblower protection, quality and AI management.

secjur GmbH is registered in Hamburg under HRB 170383, and the homepage states the platform is hosted in Germany and is GDPR-compliant. It claims full coverage of NIS2 and DORA requirements, which is a vendor claim worth testing in a demo.

A certified expert can be added if wanted, but the assistants are designed for self-service. The site is primarily German with an English version, prices are not published, and a smaller international footprint than the larger platforms is likely though not verified.

What secjur does well

  • Hosted in Germany
  • NIS2 and DORA content
  • Custom frameworks
  • 60+ API integrations
  • Self-service assistants

Where secjur falls short

  • Pricing on request
  • Site mainly German
  • Smaller international footprint (inferred)
  • No self-hosting

Standout feature. secjur is the only tool here that lets you define a custom framework and also states plainly that hosting is in Germany.

#7 DataGuard

Munich, Germany Founded 2018 Base / Pro / Enterprise, quoted on request Demo on request

Best for: Mid-market and enterprise privacy teams that want one GDPR platform with optional expert support

  • Operating company. DataCo GmbH (trading as DataGuard)
  • Jurisdiction. EU (Germany)
  • Source code. Closed source
  • Replaces. OneTrust, TrustArc, Securiti

DataGuard is a Munich privacy and information-security platform that covers Records of Processing Activities for Article 30, DPIA and risk-assessment workflows, a data subject request tool, third-party risk and incident and breach management. Adjacent modules cover security-awareness training, asset management and cookie consent. It absorbed DPOrganizer, the Swedish privacy tool, and DPOrganizer's former customers now use the DataGuard platform directly, which is the clearest sign of consolidation among European privacy vendors.

The operating company is DataCo GmbH, trading as DataGuard, founded in 2018 and based in Munich.

It reports more than 4,000 client organisations in over 50 countries, a count that makes it the largest specifically European vendor in this category by that measure, though the figure is the vendor's own. Pricing is quote-based across Base (self-service SaaS), Pro (SaaS with hands-on expert support) and Enterprise, and no free tier is stated. ISO 27001 and TISAX are described as a security programme, not as a certificate, and OneTrust is the tool it is positioned against.

What DataGuard does well

  • Covers processing register, DPIA, data subject requests, vendor risk and breaches in one product
  • Absorbed DPOrganizer rather than competing with it
  • Expert support tier for teams without an in-house DPO
  • German headquarters and EU hosting
  • Among the largest customer bases in the category by the vendor's own count

Where DataGuard falls short

  • No published pricing, every tier needs a sales call
  • No free tier or self-serve trial stated
  • A broad feature set can mean paying for unused modules
  • ISO 27001 and TISAX are described as a programme, not a certificate

Standout feature. DataGuard is the only tool here that took over another privacy product's customer base, moving DPOrganizer users onto its platform.

#8 eramba

London, United Kingdom Community free; Enterprise on-premises EUR 2,500/year; Enterprise SaaS EUR 5,000/year Demo on request

Best for: Teams with in-house GRC skills who want flat pricing

  • Operating company. Eramba LTD
  • Jurisdiction. United Kingdom (adequacy decision, outside the EEA)
  • Where the data sits. Choice of EU or US for SaaS; on-premises otherwise
  • Source code. Closed source
  • Replaces. Vanta, Drata, Hyperproof

eramba is a GRC toolkit with a free community edition and a flat annual fee for the enterprise editions, with unlimited users, unlimited data and all modules included.

Enterprise on-premises costs EUR 2,500 a year and Enterprise SaaS, with a choice of EU or US hosting, costs EUR 5,000 a year, while implementation workshops are EUR 800 each. Modules cover risk, compliance and incident management, data privacy, automated account reviews, awareness trainings, online assessments, an API and an AI assistant with MCP.

The legal name is Eramba LTD, with offices in London and Bratislava, so the contracting entity is British and the adequacy decision applies.

The product has been available since 2015 with a public forum, open documentation, a public changelog and free live training, and the company describes itself as a small team. The terms and about pages did not state a registration number. ISO 27001, ISO 27002, NIS2, DORA, GDPR and SOC 2 are listed with templates for policies, controls and questionnaires, but you configure risks, controls and workflows yourself, which assumes someone who knows GRC.

What eramba does well

  • Free community edition
  • Flat annual fee with unlimited users
  • EU hosting choice
  • On-premises option
  • Public forum and documentation

Where eramba falls short

  • Less automated evidence collection
  • Needs GRC expertise
  • SaaS also offers US hosting
  • Small team

Standout feature. eramba is the only tool here that sets one flat fee for unlimited users and every module, and it prints the comparison against per-user pricing on its own site.

#9 CISO Assistant

Vélizy-Villacoublay, France Community free; Pro SaaS EUR 39 per contributor per month billed annually; Pro on-premises EUR 2,400 per instance per year (1-5 seats) Demo on request

Best for: Security teams that want an open-source GRC they can self-host

  • Operating company. intuitem SARL
  • Jurisdiction. EU (France)
  • Where the data sits. Self-hosted community edition; Pro SaaS hosting region not verified
  • Source code. Closed source
  • Replaces. Vanta, Drata, OneTrust

CISO Assistant is an open-source GRC platform from intuitem that handles audit management across multiple frameworks, risk assessment that does not force one methodology, and centralised evidence, with work from earlier audits reusable against mapped controls. The site cites 202 frameworks, 27 languages, 128 contributors and 4.5k GitHub stars, and deployment is self-hosted or in the vendor's cloud. The community edition is EUR 0 under AGPLv3, hosted and managed by you, with unlimited users and community support.

intuitem SARL is a French company with a share capital of EUR 100,000, registered in Versailles.

Pro SaaS costs EUR 39 per contributor per month billed annually, and Pro on-premises is EUR 2,400 per instance per year for 1 to 5 contributors, with custom quotes for specific deployments. The focus is GRC process and not automated evidence collection from cloud accounts, self-hosting means you run and secure the system yourself, and the Pro SaaS hosting region was not stated on the pages reviewed.

What CISO Assistant does well

  • Open-source community edition
  • 220+ frameworks
  • Self-host or SaaS
  • French entity
  • Transparent pricing

Where CISO Assistant falls short

  • Per-contributor pricing on Pro SaaS
  • Limited automated evidence collection
  • Self-hosting needs admin skills
  • SaaS hosting region not verified

Standout feature. CISO Assistant is the only tool here whose full framework library ships in a free AGPLv3 edition that a security team can run on its own servers.

#10 heyData

Berlin, Germany Founded 2020 Data Privacy Starter from EUR 65 per month (EUR 59 billed annually) / Professional from EUR 120 (EUR 99 annually) / Enterprise from EUR 178 (EUR 169 annually); final price depends on company size and modules Demo on request

Best for: Small and growing companies that want GDPR software with an appointed data protection officer included

  • Operating company. heyData GmbH, HRB 242016 B Amtsgericht Charlottenburg
  • Jurisdiction. EU (Germany)
  • Where the data sits. EU, on an ISO 27001-certified host the vendor does not name
  • Source code. Closed source
  • Replaces. OneTrust, TrustArc

heyData is a Berlin platform that bundles the appointment of a data protection officer, a data protection audit and documentation into every published plan, with TUEV-certified officers behind it. DPIA, training and a data protection seal start at the Professional tier, and vendor risk management is limited. Beyond privacy, the same platform sells information security, ISO 27001, NIS2, EU AI Act and whistleblower modules, and it reports a rating of 4.5 out of 5 on G2.

heyData GmbH is registered at the district court of Charlottenburg under HRB 242016 B, was founded in 2020 and reports more than 2,500 customers and a team of over 70.

Data Privacy plans are published: Starter from EUR 65 a month (EUR 59 billed annually), Professional from EUR 120 (EUR 99) and Enterprise from EUR 178 (EUR 169), with the final price set by company size and modules. Hosting is on an ISO 27001-certified host in the EU that the vendor does not name, and liability caps per tier run from EUR 50,000 to EUR 250,000, which belongs in the contract review.

What heyData does well

  • Published entry prices from EUR 59 a month billed annually
  • External data protection officer appointment included in every plan
  • DPIA, vendor risk and policy management on the same platform
  • German GmbH with commercial register number

Where heyData falls short

  • Entry tier is documentation-led, with limited vendor risk and no DPIA
  • Final price depends on company size and modules
  • The hosting provider is not named
  • Liability caps per tier run from EUR 50,000 to EUR 250,000

Standout feature. heyData is the only tool here that includes an appointed data protection officer in every published monthly plan at a price under EUR 100 a month on annual billing.

#11 verinice

Göttingen, Germany Founded 2007 See website (cloud and on-premises shops, quote on request) Demo on request

Best for: German public sector and critical infrastructure organisations using IT-Grundschutz

  • Operating company. SerNet GmbH
  • Jurisdiction. EU (Germany)
  • Where the data sits. Not stated on the pages reviewed
  • Source code. Closed source
  • Replaces. Vanta, Drata, GRC suites

verinice is an open-source information security management tool from SerNet that covers BSI IT-Grundschutz, ISO 27001, VDA ISA/TISAX, GDPR and NIS 2, with business continuity domains for BSI 200-4 and ISO 22301 added recently.

It is sold as verinice.cloud on subscription and as verinice.onprem for purchase, and the vendor calls it a sovereign tool, supported by a partner network for certified help. A public forum, roadmap and release notes are on the site, and a verinice.XP user event is announced for 2027.

The producer is SerNet GmbH, registered in Göttingen as HR B 2816, and it says verinice has been developed fully open source since 2007 and used across German and European public and private sectors, including critical infrastructure. It is a classic GRC tool with little integration-driven automation, the site and documentation are mainly German, and prices are not shown on the main pages. The data location was not stated on the pages reviewed.

What verinice does well

  • Open source since 2007
  • IT-Grundschutz and ISO 27001 domains
  • Cloud and on-premises options
  • German entity
  • Partner network

Where verinice falls short

  • Mostly German-language
  • Little automated evidence collection
  • Prices not on main pages
  • Interface oriented to classic GRC

Standout feature. verinice is the only tool here built around BSI IT-Grundschutz and developed in the open since 2007.

Advisera also lists toolkits and training for NIS2, DORA, ISO 42001 and EU GDPR, plus its Experta AI copilot. The product is organised around documents and projects and not around automated evidence collection from cloud accounts, which suits a small business doing ISO 27001 step by step.

What Conformio does well

  • Published EUR prices
  • 14-day free trial
  • Mandatory ISO 27001 documents included
  • Croatian law governs terms
  • Training included in Professional

Where Conformio falls short

  • Little automated evidence collection
  • User account caps
  • US office also exists
  • Basic compared with automation platforms

Standout feature. Conformio is the only tool here whose entry price (EUR 145 a month) comes with every mandatory ISO 27001 document already included.

#13 Orbiq

Hamburg, Germany Trust Center plans Free, Team €85/month, Business from €190/month; Vendor Assurance by demo Demo on request

Best for: SaaS companies and small teams that answer customer security questionnaires and assess a few suppliers

  • Operating company. Orbiq GmbH
  • Jurisdiction. EU (Germany)
  • Where the data sits. Not stated on the pages reviewed
  • Source code. Closed source
  • Replaces. Vanta Trust Center, Whistic, SafeBase, spreadsheet questionnaires

Orbiq is a Hamburg trust center platform with a vendor assurance module, built around the NIS2, DORA and ISO 27001 requests that buyers now send to their suppliers. The trust center is the page a supplier shows its customers, with an NDA flow. The vendor assurance side adds AI-supported questionnaires, automated scoring evaluations and continuous monitoring of vendor security over time, so a small team can answer its own customers and assess its own suppliers in one tool.

Orbiq GmbH sells from Hamburg, which places it under German law. Trust Center plans are Free, Team at EUR 85 a month and Business from EUR 190 a month, with Vendor Assurance sold by demo.

The pages reviewed give no founding year, customer count or hosting location, and the module is lighter than enterprise third-party risk platforms, with no coverage of due diligence law or operational disruption. Treat it as security assurance and ask for a reference from a company of your size before moving beyond the free plan.

What Orbiq does well

  • Published Trust Center prices, including a free plan
  • AI-supported vendor questionnaires with automated scoring
  • Continuous monitoring of vendor security over time
  • Built around NIS2, DORA and ISO 27001 buyer requests
  • German company in Hamburg with a full imprint

Where Orbiq falls short

  • Vendor Assurance is priced by demo only
  • Lighter than enterprise third-party risk platforms
  • No due diligence law or operational disruption coverage
  • Founding year, customer base and hosting location not stated on the pages reviewed

Standout feature. Orbiq is the only tool here that covers both sides of the questionnaire exchange, with a free tier on the side where you answer your customers.

Which European compliance automation tool should a 40-person SaaS company choose for ISO 27001?

Start by deciding whether you want software alone or software with people attached, because that split divides this list more cleanly than the framework count does.

Secfix and Kertos both sell experts next to the platform: Secfix describes a team of auditors, engineers and customer success managers, and Kertos adds certified experts, a yearly audit report and an appointed external DPO on its higher tiers. Hicomply puts a dedicated customer success manager on every plan. Cyberday and Conformio lean on templates and workflow, and you carry more of the work yourself.

For a company of 40 people the published numbers narrow the field fast. Cyberday lists EUR 4,500 a year for 20 to 49 employees. Conformio's Professional plan is EUR 245 a month, but it caps users at 5 accounts, which a team spread over engineering, HR and operations can outgrow. Hicomply starts from GBP 5,300 a year. Secfix, Kertos and secjur give no figure, so request quotes from at least two of them before comparing.

If the company has AWS, Google Cloud, Microsoft 365 and Jira in scope and wants checks that run against them, Secfix and Hicomply are the ones whose pages describe that directly: Secfix generates a 250+ check list against connected systems, and Hicomply connects 75+ tools. If the company is mostly a document and process exercise, Cyberday is cheaper and clearer to budget.

How is compliance automation software priced, and what should you ask before signing?

Four pricing models appear in this category, and they scale differently. Cyberday prices by employee count, with EUR 3,200 for under 20, EUR 4,500 for 20 to 49 and EUR 6,800 for 50 to 99, and monthly billing about 20 percent higher. Conformio and heyData price by plan per month.

CISO Assistant prices Pro SaaS at EUR 39 per contributor per month billed annually, so the bill follows the number of people who work in the tool. eramba does the opposite: EUR 2,500 a year on-premises or EUR 5,000 for SaaS, with unlimited users and all modules, plus EUR 800 per implementation workshop.

Six of the thirteen tools publish no price at all. Secfix, Kertos, secjur, DataGuard and ISMS.online quote on request, and verinice points to cloud and on-premises shops with a quote. Hicomply publishes a starting figure, but the plans page shows slightly inconsistent figures for the same tier, so get the number in writing.

Ask three questions of every vendor. What is included in the year-one price, in particular whether audit support or an external DPO is a separate line. What happens to the price when headcount or the number of connected systems doubles.

And whether the contract renews at the same rate. Orbiq's Trust Center plans (Free, Team EUR 85 a month, Business from EUR 190 a month) show that a vendor can publish a ladder, and a vendor that will not tell you the first rung before a demo is telling you something about who it expects to buy.

Does a European compliance platform keep your security data under European jurisdiction?

Mostly, but the details differ by vendor, and the pages we reviewed are not equally specific. Secfix states exclusively European cloud infrastructure with no transfer outside the EEA without a documented legal basis. secjur says it is hosted in Germany. Cyberday states all data is stored in EU data centers. Kertos says it is hosted on European AWS infrastructure, which means a US-owned cloud provider's EU region, so the contract is German but the infrastructure owner is American.

Three entries need a closer read. ISMS.online contracts through Alliantist Limited in England and Wales, its trust centre page names a primary UK data centre and further centres in Europe, the USA and Australia, so you should ask which region holds your tenant.

Hicomply is also a UK company, opened a Denver office, and does not state a data location on the pages reviewed. eramba is registered in the UK with an office in Bratislava, and its SaaS lets you choose EU or US hosting, so the EU choice must be made explicitly at order time.

For the strictest requirement, the answer is to run the software yourself. CISO Assistant's community edition and eramba's community and on-premises editions are self-hosted, verinice sells verinice.onprem, and intuitem also sells a Pro on-premises edition. In those cases the vendor never holds your data, at the price of running the system.

Can you move from Vanta or Drata to a European tool, and what do you give up?

Yes, and the usual trade is breadth of integrations for contract and jurisdiction. Secfix, Kertos, Cyberday, Hicomply, secjur, eramba and CISO Assistant all list Vanta or Drata among the tools they replace.

The European platforms cover the same frameworks, including ISO 27001, SOC 2 and the newer European ones such as NIS2 and DORA, and several add what US platforms put less weight on: C5 and TISAX at Kertos, IT-Grundschutz at verinice, and the Cyber Resilience Act and CER directive at Cyberday.

What you may lose is depth of automated evidence collection. Cyberday's public pages do not show the technical collection depth of cloud-focused tools, and eramba, CISO Assistant, verinice and Conformio are all described as GRC or document tools where you configure risks, controls and workflows yourself. Secfix and Hicomply come closest to continuous checks against cloud accounts, and Secfix flags that its integration catalogue is probably smaller than the large US platforms.

Plan the migration around the audit calendar. Move policies and risk registers first, since they travel as documents, and keep the old platform running until the next surveillance audit has passed on the new one. Do not switch in the three months before a certification audit.

When should you not buy a compliance automation platform at all?

If the only requirement is GDPR, an ISO 27001 platform is the wrong purchase. DataGuard covers the processing register, DPIA, data subject requests, vendor risk and breaches in one product, and heyData bundles an appointed data protection officer into every published plan from EUR 59 a month billed annually. Both are narrower in security frameworks and better aimed at the privacy officer's workload.

If your problem is customers sending security questionnaires, Orbiq's free Trust Center plan is a lighter first step than a full ISMS platform, and it only turns into a larger purchase if you then need Vendor Assurance, which is priced by demo. If you have a security engineer and a tight budget, CISO Assistant community edition costs nothing in licence fees, and eramba's flat fee beats any per-seat tool once more than a handful of people use it.

Software also does not replace judgement. Every tool here, according to its own pages, automates checklists, evidence and documents, but a certification auditor still examines whether your controls match how the company works. A company with no named owner for security should fix that before buying any platform.

How do these tools fit into the rest of your stack?

Integration claims are where vendors differ most, and the numbers are not comparable. Hicomply lists 75+ integrations and says its Enterprise plan adds unlimited ones. secjur lists over 60 API connections. Secfix names AWS, Google Cloud, Azure, Microsoft 365, Azure AD, Google Workspace and Jira. eramba offers an API and an AI assistant with MCP. Cyberday, Conformio and verinice emphasise templates and workflows over connectors.

Identity and HR connections matter more than cloud connections for smaller companies. Secfix discovers new vendors through Google Workspace or Office 365 SSO and feeds employee onboarding and offboarding into the evidence record, which removes a task that is otherwise done in spreadsheets. Ask each vendor to demonstrate the connection to your own identity provider and ticketing tool rather than reading the logo list.

Finally, check the exit. CISO Assistant is open source and eramba and verinice offer on-premises editions, so data export is a lesser worry there. For hosted-only tools such as Kertos, Secfix and Cyberday, ask in writing what format policies, risk registers and evidence come out in when the contract ends.

How we selected and ranked these 13 tools

Every tool on this page is in the European Purpose directory, which means the operating company is established in Europe and we have verified that from the company register or the vendor's own legal notice rather than from a marketing page. Tools headquartered outside Europe are not eligible, however good they are.

  1. Feature verification (weight: 40%). We check each capability against the vendor's own documentation and product pages, and record what the tool does rather than what the category is assumed to include.
  2. Ease of adoption (weight: 30%). Integrations, published API access, trial availability and how much configuration stands between signing and a usable result.
  3. Value and transparency (weight: 30%). Published pricing counts in a vendor's favour; quote-only pricing is recorded as quote-only rather than estimated. We weigh what a buyer gets for the entry price, not the headline feature count.
  4. Editorial review. Every page is researched and drafted with AI assistance, and the compliance and pricing claims are checked against the vendor's documentation before it is published under the founder's editorial responsibility. The three weights above decide the order; a position is a ranking against the other European tools in this category, not an absolute score.

Vendor-reported outcomes — ROI figures, margin uplift, time saved — are labelled as vendor claims wherever they appear on this page. We have not audited them, and neither has anyone else who quotes them. Read our full editorial process for how pages are re-verified.

Frequently asked questions

Secfix holds #1 in this directory: Secfix GmbH in Munich states it runs exclusively on European cloud infrastructure and covers ISO 27001, NIS2, DORA and TISAX with experts alongside the platform. The right pick depends on the job.

Kertos suits mid-sized companies that need C5 or TISAX with certified experts, Cyberday suits teams that want a published price, CISO Assistant and eramba suit teams with GRC skills and a small budget, and DataGuard or heyData suit companies whose main burden is GDPR rather than ISO 27001.

Yes, several. Secfix in Munich, Kertos in Munich, Cyberday in Tampere, secjur in Hamburg and CISO Assistant from intuitem in France all list Vanta or Drata among the tools they replace. They differ in how much automated evidence collection they offer, so ask for a live demo against your own cloud and identity systems before deciding.

DataGuard from Munich and heyData from Berlin are the two European privacy platforms in this category that list OneTrust as the tool they replace, and CISO Assistant also lists it. DataGuard covers a processing register, DPIA, data subject requests, vendor risk and breach management, while heyData bundles an appointed data protection officer into every published plan. Neither is a like-for-like feature match for a global enterprise suite.

Cyberday publishes tiers by employee count from EUR 3,200 a year, Conformio shows Starter at EUR 145 a month and Professional at EUR 245 a month, heyData publishes Data Privacy plans from EUR 59 a month billed annually, and Orbiq publishes Trust Center plans from free to EUR 190 a month.

Hicomply shows plans from GBP 5,300 a year, CISO Assistant lists EUR 39 per contributor per month, and eramba lists EUR 2,500 and EUR 5,000 a year. Secfix, Kertos, secjur, DataGuard and ISMS.online quote on request.

CISO Assistant has a free community edition under AGPLv3 and a Pro on-premises edition at EUR 2,400 per instance per year for 1 to 5 contributors. eramba offers a free community edition and an Enterprise on-premises edition at EUR 2,500 a year. verinice from SerNet is sold as verinice.onprem alongside verinice.cloud. The other tools in this category are hosted services only.

ISMS.online (Alliantist Limited, Brighton), Hicomply (Hicomply Ltd, registered in England and Wales) and eramba (Eramba LTD, London, with an office in Bratislava) are UK entities, covered by the UK adequacy decision but outside the EEA. The others contract from Germany, Finland, France or Croatia.
