European BIM Software

BIM software holds the geometry, quantities and room data of a building, and in many projects the model is the contract document. These European tools cover authoring, model checking, issue coordination, room programming and site viewing, with vendors in Hungary, Germany, Belgium, Finland, the Netherlands, Norway, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Poland, the UK and Denmark.

How we rank these tools — 4-step process
  1. 1
    European ownership, verified

The company is headquartered and incorporated in the EU, EEA or Switzerland, and processes customer data in Europe. A US parent company disqualifies a tool from this page regardless of where its servers are.

  2. 2
    Category fit and hands-on review

What the tool actually does, who it suits, and where it falls short — checked against the vendor’s own documentation, changelog and pricing page rather than its marketing copy.

  3. 3
    Compliance and pricing check

GDPR posture, hosting location and the prices quoted on this page are verified against the vendor’s public pricing before publication, and re-checked when we revisit the category.

  4. 4
    Position on this page

Placement on this page can be paid, and that can affect the order tools appear in. It never buys a listing: a tool that fails the checks above is not here at any price, and payment does not change the shortcomings we write about. A vendor can ask us to correct a factual error — not to remove a criticism.

Vendors can pay for visibility on this page. It never changes what an entry says about a product, including the criticism, and we earn nothing when you click through to a vendor. Paid placement can affect the order in which tools appear; it never affects whether a tool is listed. Editorial policy

Key takeaways

  • Archicad from Graphisoft SE in Budapest ranks first in this directory because it is the authoring application here that a solo architect can run entirely on a local machine, with BIMcloud Basic on a server you host yourself.
  • Nemetschek Group owns Archicad, Allplan, Solibri and dRofus, so four of the thirteen tools on this page share one German parent; BricsCAD, Dalux, BIMcollab, CYPE, usBIM and BIMvision sit outside that group.
  • Only Archicad, Allplan, BricsCAD, CYPE and cadwork author geometry; Solibri, BIMcollab, Revizto, usBIM, Speckle, BIMvision and dRofus all sit around a model made elsewhere, which is why a Revit exit usually means buying two tools, not one.
  • Allplan, BricsCAD, BIMcollab and Solibri publish euro prices (Allplan from EUR 123 per user per month, BricsCAD from EUR 330 per year, BIMcollab from EUR 12.50 per user per month, Solibri from EUR 99 per year), while Archicad, Dalux, Revizto and cadwork publish none.
  • Revizto in Lausanne and Speckle in London are the two tools here outside the EU single market, so their GDPR position rests on Swiss and UK law plus contractual commitments, and both list hosting outside Europe or a paid plan for European regions.

European BIM software is the family of building information modelling tools, from authoring applications to model checkers, issue trackers and site viewers, sold by companies established in the EU, the EEA, the UK or Switzerland, and it matters because a building model is a complete record of a structure that outlives the project contract by decades.

Every European BIM software tool reviewed

#1 Archicad

Budapest, Hungary Founded 1982 Subscription plans (Studio, Collaborate); see website for prices Demo on request

Best for: Architecture offices that design and document buildings in BIM

  • Operating company. Graphisoft SE
  • Jurisdiction. EU (Hungary)
  • Where the data sits. Desktop application; teamwork on BIMcloud you host, or cloud plan
  • Source code. Closed source
  • Replaces. AutoCAD Architecture, Revit

Archicad is the BIM application from Graphisoft that an architect can adopt without handing the project to anyone else's server. The Studio plan is aimed at solo architects and local teams and includes BIMcloud Basic, a teamwork server you host and control; Collaborate moves multidisciplinary teamwork to the cloud. Plans, sections, elevations and schedules update from the model, design options let you test alternatives inside the file, and BIMx Pro presents the design to clients as a walkthrough.

Graphisoft SE is registered in Budapest and listed in the Budapest-Capital Regional Court company registry, and the product dates from 1982. The vendor says it is used in 108 countries and 27 languages, which we have not verified independently. Two points temper the European story: Graphisoft is part of the Nemetschek Group, and the imprint names a US provider for the website hosting. Prices are not published on the pages we checked, so you need a quote.

What Archicad does well

  • BIM focus with long vendor history since 1982
  • Local-team plan with self-hosted BIMcloud Basic
  • BIMx walkthroughs for client presentation
  • Educational licences and training offered
  • EU contracting entity

Where Archicad falls short

  • Prices not published on pages checked
  • Not for general 2D drafting or mechanical design
  • Owned by the Nemetschek Group
  • Website hosting by a US provider per imprint

Standout feature. Archicad is the only authoring tool here that pairs a self-hostable teamwork server with client walkthroughs in BIMx.

#2 Allplan

Munich, Germany Basic EUR 123, Concept EUR 210, Professional EUR 263, Ultimate EUR 353 per user per month, billed yearly, excl. VAT Demo on request

Best for: Architecture and engineering firms that need one BIM platform across disciplines

  • Operating company. ALLPLAN GmbH
  • Jurisdiction. EU (Germany)
  • Where the data sits. Desktop application with BIMPLUS cloud collaboration
  • Source code. Closed source
  • Replaces. Revit, AutoCAD Architecture

Allplan is the broadest authoring platform on this page, spanning architecture, structural engineering, MEP, infrastructure, bridges and precast and steel fabrication in one product family. A firm that designs a building and the bridge beside it can stay inside one vendor. BIMPLUS carries models between disciplines as an open BIM collaboration platform, and Allplan Civil extends the range to roads and infrastructure.

ALLPLAN GmbH publishes its imprint at Konrad-Zuse-Platz in Munich and belongs to the Nemetschek Group, with several products sold under other brand names.

The European shop lists Basic at EUR 123, Concept at EUR 210, Professional at EUR 263 and Ultimate at EUR 353 per user per month, billed yearly and excluding VAT, and the international shop shows dollar prices. A 14-day trial of the full version is offered. Per-seat costs run well above drafting tools, a fair price for the discipline range but a hurdle for a two-person office.

What Allplan does well

  • Published prices in euros
  • Covers architecture, engineering, infrastructure and precast
  • BIMPLUS for open BIM collaboration
  • 14-day full trial
  • German contracting entity

Where Allplan falls short

  • Monthly per-user cost is high compared with drafting tools
  • BIM focus, not general DWG drafting
  • Part of the Nemetschek Group
  • US-dollar prices shown on the international shop

Standout feature. Allplan is the only tool here that takes the same project from building design through bridges to precast and steel detailing.

#3 BricsCAD

Ghent, Belgium Lite EUR 330/year, Pro EUR 710/year, Mechanical EUR 998/year, BIM EUR 1,060/year, Ultimate EUR 1,176/year Demo on request

Best for: Teams that want to keep DWG workflows and LISP routines while changing vendor

  • Operating company. Bricsys NV (Octave BricsCAD)
  • Jurisdiction. EU (Belgium)
  • Where the data sits. Desktop application; account and website data controlled by Bricsys NV in Belgium
  • Source code. Closed source
  • Replaces. AutoCAD, AutoCAD LT

BricsCAD is the route for a team that wants to leave AutoCAD without redrawing its archive. It works on native DWG and, according to the vendor, accepts existing menus, scripts, customisations and templates. LISP routines keep running, and the developer portal documents .NET and BRX interfaces for deeper automation.

Bricsys NV in Ghent is the contracting company, with a privacy statement and terms under Belgian law. The brand now appears as Octave BricsCAD, since Bricsys became part of Octave, the company spun off from Hexagon AB in 2025, so the ownership picture is wider than the Belgian entity.

Five levels run from Lite at EUR 330 a year to Ultimate at EUR 1,176, with BIM at EUR 1,060. BIM formats such as Revit, IFC, Rhino and SketchUp arrive at the BIM and Ultimate levels, and Parasolid or STEP exchange needs the Communicator add-on. A 30-day trial is available.

What BricsCAD does well

  • Native DWG with LISP support
  • Five levels from 2D to BIM and mechanical
  • Prices published per product level
  • Belgian contracting entity
  • 30-day free trial

Where BricsCAD falls short

  • Yearly prices recur
  • Communicator add-on needed for many 3D formats
  • Part of the larger Octave group
  • Hosting details for account services not stated on the pages checked

Standout feature. BricsCAD is the only tool here that lets a drafting office keep its DWG files and LISP routines while it moves toward BIM.

#4 Solibri

Helsinki, Finland Founded 1999 Starter EUR 99, Essential EUR 1,428, Advanced EUR 2,109, Premium EUR 2,772 starting price per year per licence; Security+ on request; prepaid token packages from EUR 250 Demo on request

Best for: BIM managers and coordinators who check models against rules before design review

  • Operating company. Solibri Oy
  • Jurisdiction. EU (Finland)
  • Where the data sits. Desktop software; cloud services and sub-processors are listed on the Solibri legal page
  • Source code. Closed source
  • Replaces. Autodesk Navisworks, Autodesk Revit model review

Solibri does not draw buildings; it opens models from authoring tools and tests them. Properties filled in, disciplines clashing, a classification that follows the agreed rules: those are its questions. IFC federation is on every tier, native Revit federation starts at Essential, and the Advanced tier adds custom rule creation and a clash detection matrix, with IDS workflows for information requirements.

The software terms name Solibri Oy in Helsinki, governed by Finnish law with arbitration in Helsinki, and the vendor was founded in 1999. The site footer calls Solibri a Nemetschek company.

Starting prices per licence per year run from EUR 99 for Starter, EUR 1,428 for Essential and EUR 2,109 for Advanced to EUR 2,772 for Premium, with token packages from EUR 250 for metered automation. Security+ is an offline tier with no telemetry, aimed at government and defence, priced on request.

What Solibri does well

  • Finnish contracting entity under Finnish law
  • Euro prices published for four tiers
  • IDS workflows for information requirements
  • Federates IFC and native Revit models
  • Offline Security+ tier for restricted environments

Where Solibri falls short

  • Not an authoring tool
  • Premium and Security+ costs run high
  • Some features are token-metered
  • Part of the Nemetschek Group

Standout feature. Solibri is the only checker here that ships a fully offline, air-gapped tier for government and defence use.

#5 BIMcollab

Eindhoven, Netherlands Basic EUR 12.50, Advanced EUR 18.75, Enterprise EUR 25 per user per month billed annually (EUR 19, 29 and 39 billed monthly); free trial Demo on request

Best for: Design teams and BIM managers who track model issues across several authoring tools

  • Operating company. Kubus B.V. (BIMcollab)
  • Jurisdiction. EU (Netherlands)
  • Where the data sits. Not stated on the pages checked; see the BIMcollab data processing agreement
  • Source code. Closed source
  • Replaces. Autodesk Construction Cloud, Autodesk Navisworks

BIMcollab sits between the authoring tools and the project team. A model goes once into the WebViewer, gets checked in BIMcollab Zoom, and problems travel on as BCF issues that reappear inside the authoring software. IDS support, smart properties and views, clash management, document management and a developer SDK round out the platform.

The privacy statement names Kubus B.V., Chamber of Commerce number 17076900, at Stuiverstraat 100 in Eindhoven, and the contact page lists offices in Hasselt and Belgrade. The vendor says it serves more than 150,000 users and describes itself as B Corp certified.

Pricing is the most open on this page for a SaaS tool: EUR 12.50, 18.75 and 25 per user per month on annual billing, or EUR 19, 29 and 39 billed monthly, with Enterprise through sales. Hosting region and parent company were not stated on the pages we read.

What BIMcollab does well

  • Dutch entity with Chamber of Commerce number published
  • Per-user euro prices shown for three plans
  • BCF and IDS support
  • Free trial
  • B Corp certification stated by the vendor

Where BIMcollab falls short

  • Not an authoring tool
  • Enterprise price on request
  • Hosting region not stated on pages checked
  • Costs scale per user

Standout feature. BIMcollab is the only coordination tool here that publishes per-user euro prices for monthly and annual billing next to a free trial.

#6 Dalux

Copenhagen, Denmark Per project or per company licence Demo on request

Best for: Contractors who want the model usable by the people on site

  • Operating company. Dalux
  • Jurisdiction. EU (Denmark)
  • Source code. Closed source
  • Replaces. Procore, Autodesk Construction Cloud, Bluebeam

Dalux was built around the idea that the building model should be usable by the person standing in the building. Large federated models render on an ordinary phone, and a defect, a photo or a checklist attaches to the exact spot in the model. The paid modules cover BIM coordination, document control and facility management, which inherits the model at handover.

The company is headquartered on Lyngbyvej in Copenhagen, was founded in 2005 by two brothers and, according to the vendor, is still owned and led by its founders.

The Field app is free for unlimited users on a project, so subcontractors join without a licence, while the other modules are sold per project or per company with no published list price. Commercial and cost management is not where Dalux competes, and the platform pays back when the project genuinely runs on a model.

What Dalux does well

  • Large BIM models usable on an ordinary phone
  • Field app free for unlimited users, so subcontractors join
  • Defects and checklists anchored in the model
  • Facility management inherits the model at handover
  • Danish company, founder-owned, EU jurisdiction

Where Dalux falls short

  • Commercial and cost management is not its strength
  • Paid modules needed beyond the free field app
  • Best value when the project genuinely runs on BIM
  • Fewer finance integrations than the cost-led platforms

Standout feature. Dalux is the only tool here whose free field app lets every subcontractor open the model on site.

#7 dRofus

Oslo, Norway Packages Planning, Project and Enterprise; base rate per 100 m2 shown as EUR 2.02 (Planning) and EUR 4.04 (Project), with volume and per-device or integration fees on top Demo on request

Best for: Building owners, hospitals and design teams that manage room programmes and equipment as structured data

  • Operating company. dRofus AS
  • Jurisdiction. EEA, not EU (Norway)
  • Where the data sits. AWS Europe with the region chosen by the customer (sub-processor list); privacy policy also names hosting in the United States, Canada, Norway and Australia
  • Source code. Closed source
  • Replaces. Excel room data sheets, Autodesk Revit schedules

dRofus starts from the brief, not the drawing. Rooms, departments, equipment and standards live in a database, and the package pages describe linking that data to design and construction models so requirements do not decay between project stages. Healthcare planners, owners and consultants who must prove a model meets a requirement list are the natural users, and the product lists reports, space planning, an API, dTwin and FM Lite.

The contact page names dRofus AS at Badstugata 2 in Oslo for EMEA, with affiliates in the United States and Australia, and the privacy policy says information may be shared with companies in the Nemetschek Group. Norway is in the EEA, not the EU.

The base rate is shown as EUR 2.02 per 100 m2 for Planning and EUR 4.04 for Project, with volume, device and integration fees on top and no billing period stated. Hosting uses AWS Europe in a region the customer selects, although the privacy policy also names other countries.

What dRofus does well

  • Norwegian entity in Oslo
  • Customer-chosen AWS Europe region
  • Area-based prices published in euros
  • Requirements linked to models
  • API and integrations

Where dRofus falls short

  • Not a modelling tool
  • Area-based pricing with extra fees
  • Billing period of the rate not stated
  • Part of the Nemetschek Group

Standout feature. dRofus is the only tool here that manages room and equipment requirements as structured data and checks the model against them.

#8 CYPE

Alicante, Spain Professional licence, permanent or temporary subscription (see online shop); free 30-day evaluation licence with no functional restrictions Demo on request

Best for: Engineering and architecture practices working to Spanish and southern European codes

  • Operating company. CYPE Technologies, S.A.
  • Jurisdiction. EU (Spain)
  • Where the data sits. Desktop programmes; cloud components not checked
  • Source code. Closed source
  • Replaces. Autodesk Revit, Autodesk Robot Structural Analysis

CYPE sells a family of programmes, not one application, grouped under a BIM Essentials suite and by discipline: architecture, structures, energy and acoustic simulation, plumbing, fire protection, HVAC and electrical installations. The structural programmes are described as used by thousands of technical offices and public bodies, and the building services groups cover heat loads, ventilation, drainage and fire networks, including dynamic simulation.

The legal notice names CYPE Technologies, S.A. at Av. de Loring 4 in Alicante and refers to Spanish data protection law. The vendor says it relies on open standards, and a campus licence exists for students and teachers.

A free 30-day evaluation with no functional restrictions makes it cheap to test, but prices sit in the online shop and we did not read them. Because the calculation modules implement regional codes through a dealership network, a practice outside those markets gets much less from them.

What CYPE does well

  • Spanish contracting entity
  • Disciplines from structures to HVAC in one family
  • 30-day evaluation without restrictions
  • Campus licence for education
  • Open standards approach

Where CYPE falls short

  • Code focus limits use outside implemented markets
  • Prices not read on a published list
  • Platform support not verified
  • Programme family rather than one modeller

Standout feature. CYPE is the only tool here that ties structural and building services calculation to national design codes.

#9 usBIM

Bagnoli Irpino (Avellino), Italy Free apps with 10 GB cloud storage; paid subscription plans monthly, annual or multi-year (see website) Demo on request

Best for: Small teams and municipalities that want a browser-based IFC viewer and BIM coordination without installing software

  • Operating company. ACCA software S.p.A.
  • Jurisdiction. EU (Italy)
  • Where the data sits. Online service; hosting location not stated on the pages checked
  • Source code. Closed source
  • Replaces. Autodesk Revit viewer, Autodesk Navisworks, Autodesk Docs

usBIM runs entirely in the browser. The vendor says users can view and manage IFC, BCF, Revit (RVT and RFA), point cloud, GIS, AutoCAD DWG and DXF files without installing anything, and share models with people who hold no licence. A small municipality can give a planner access to a federated model without buying seats for them.

The licence names ACCA software S.p.A., registered in Bagnoli Irpino, Italy, and the site footer shows its VAT number and address; ACCA also sells design programmes such as Edificius and EdiLus.

A set of free apps comes with 10 GB of cloud storage, while clash detection, the IFC checker and the IFC editor sit outside the free set. Subscriptions run monthly, annually or over several years, instalments need a credit card, and we could not read prices on a server-rendered page. The hosting location is not stated on the pages checked.

What usBIM does well

  • Italian entity with VAT number published
  • Free apps and 10 GB storage
  • Opens IFC, RVT, DWG and point clouds online
  • Works without installing software
  • Monthly or annual subscriptions

Where usBIM falls short

  • Not an authoring tool
  • Hosting location not stated
  • Prices not on a server-rendered page
  • Credit card required for instalments

Standout feature. usBIM is the only tool here that opens IFC, Revit, DWG and point clouds in one browser session without any installation.

#10 Speckle

London, United Kingdom Founded 2020 Free plan (1 project, up to 3 users, 30-day version history); paid custom plans with unlimited projects and users, priced on request Demo on request

Best for: BIM and computational design teams that move model data between Revit, Rhino, Tekla and dashboards

  • Operating company. AEC Systems Ltd (Speckle)
  • Jurisdiction. United Kingdom (adequacy decision, outside the EEA)
  • Where the data sits. Default storage region UK; EU, US, APAC and Canada regions on the Enterprise plan
  • Source code. Closed source
  • Replaces. Autodesk Data Exchange, Rhino.Inside.Revit, Autodesk Construction Cloud

Speckle does not model buildings. It receives published versions of models from the tools a team already uses and keeps them in one versioned store, with a 3D viewer, issues, dashboards and validation checks on top. Connectors cover Revit, Rhino, Grasshopper, Tekla, Civil 3D and IFC, which suits computational design teams that move data between programs more than they draw.

AEC Systems Ltd is registered in London as company number 12403784 and was incorporated in January 2020; Companies House shows no person with significant control above 25 percent. The server repository is Apache 2.0, apart from the workspaces and gatekeeper modules under an Enterprise Edition licence.

The free plan allows one project and three users with 30-day version history, and paid plans are priced on request. The UK is outside the EEA, European storage regions need the Enterprise plan, the privacy policy names a US provider (DigitalOcean) in its UK data centre, and model validation is labelled beta.

What Speckle does well

  • UK company registered at Companies House
  • Free plan available
  • Connectors for several authoring tools
  • Apache 2.0 server code
  • Data residency choices on Enterprise

Where Speckle falls short

  • Not an authoring tool
  • Free plan limited to 1 project

Standout feature. Speckle is the only tool here whose server code is open under Apache 2.0 for most modules.

#11 Revizto

Lausanne, Switzerland Pricing on request (no prices on the pricing page checked) Demo on request

Best for: General contractors and design teams running large coordination projects across many authoring tools

  • Operating company. Revizto SA
  • Jurisdiction. Switzerland (adequacy decision, outside the EEA)
  • Where the data sits. Hosting regions listed in the privacy policy include Ireland (Dublin) and the UK (London) alongside the USA, Canada, Singapore, Australia, Brazil, Japan and the UAE
  • Source code. Closed source
  • Replaces. Autodesk Construction Cloud, Autodesk Navisworks

Revizto puts drawings and models in one view so that coordinators can raise and resolve issues without switching files. The vendor stresses large projects such as airports, stadiums, infrastructure and data centres, and lists a unified 2D and 3D environment, integrated issue management, collaborative clash automation and project intelligence. An API and an MCP server for AI assistants are named as newer additions, and Revizto Academy offers free training.

The privacy policy names Revizto SA, Avenue de Gratta-Paille 2 in Lausanne, as controller under the Swiss data protection act and the GDPR, and the terms apply Swiss law with the courts of the Canton of Vaud. Switzerland is outside the EU. The policy lists hosting regions including Dublin and London but also the USA, Canada, Singapore, Australia, Brazil, Japan and the UAE, and the pages checked state neither an owner nor prices.

What Revizto does well

  • Swiss entity under Swiss law
  • 2D and 3D in one environment
  • Issue management and clash automation
  • API and MCP server
  • Free Revizto Academy training

Where Revizto falls short

  • Prices on request
  • Not an authoring tool
  • Hosting spread over many countries including the USA
  • Ownership not stated on pages checked

Standout feature. Revizto is the only tool here that combines 2D drawings, 3D models and issue tracking in one environment aimed at very large projects.

#12 cadwork

Hildesheim, Germany Pricing not published; see website Demo on request

Best for: Carpentry firms and timber builders

  • Operating company. cadwork informatik Software GmbH
  • Jurisdiction. EU (Germany)
  • Where the data sits. Desktop application
  • Source code. Closed source
  • Replaces. AutoCAD, SketchUp

cadwork is a specialised system for timber construction, covering carpentry, engineered timber, joinery, stair building and work in existing structures. The vendor stresses continuity from design through construction to production in 3D CAD/CAM, with BIM and IFC support, and the listed solutions include timber frame, stairs, conservatories and survey and setting out.

The German imprint names cadwork informatik Software GmbH, Lavesstrasse 4 in Hildesheim, registered at Amtsgericht Hildesheim under HRB 2438, and the vendor says the software has been on the market for over 30 years.

A two-month trial is offered, the training and user-meeting schedule is public, and prices are not published. The pages we checked are in German, the English path redirects to German content, and the contracting entity in other countries was not verified. For ordinary DWG drafting use BricsCAD.

What cadwork does well

  • Built for timber construction
  • Design to CAM in one system
  • Two-month trial offered
  • Active training schedule
  • German contracting entity

Where cadwork falls short

  • Niche trade only
  • Site mostly in German
  • No published prices
  • Entity outside Germany not verified

Standout feature. cadwork is the only tool here that runs from timber design straight into CAM for fabrication.

#13 BIMvision

Cracow, Poland Freeware viewer; plugins carry their own licences (see plugin store) Demo on request

Best for: Engineers and clients who need a free IFC viewer with optional plugins for checks and take-offs

  • Operating company. Datacomp IT Sp. z o.o.
  • Jurisdiction. EU (Poland)
  • Where the data sits. Desktop application; models stay on the local machine
  • Source code. Closed source
  • Replaces. Autodesk Revit viewer, Autodesk Navisworks Freedom

BIMvision opens IFC models exported from CAD systems such as Revit, Archicad, BricsCAD BIM, Allplan, Tekla and Vectorworks, without a licence for each system. The vendor says it supports IFC 2x3 and IFC 4, and the function list covers multi-model integration, coordinate synchronisation, 3D take-offs, collision detection and change analysis.

The page names Datacomp IT Sp. z o.o. of Cracow as the developer and says the company is a member of buildingSMART Polska.

The viewer is freeware, plugins carry their own licences in a plugin store, and an SDK and a Python API Bridge let developers automate tasks. Models stay on the local machine, which removes the hosting question, and it also means there is no cloud collaboration. Operating system support and support terms were not stated on the pages checked.

What BIMvision does well

  • Free IFC viewer
  • Polish entity
  • Plugin store and SDK
  • Python API bridge
  • Models stay on the desktop

Where BIMvision falls short

  • Viewer only
  • Plugin licences vary
  • Platform support not stated
  • No cloud collaboration

Standout feature. BIMvision is the only tool here that is a free desktop IFC viewer with a plugin store and a Python bridge.

Which European BIM software can actually replace Autodesk Revit?

Only a short list models buildings. Archicad is the closest functional match for architecture offices, with model-driven plans, sections and schedules and design options inside the application. Allplan covers a wider span, adding structural engineering, civil and bridge design, precast and steel detailing. CYPE sells a family of programmes by discipline, from structures to HVAC, and BricsCAD adds a BIM toolset to a DWG platform. cadwork replaces Revit only for timber.

Everything else on this page checks, coordinates or views a model that Revit, Archicad or Allplan produced. Solibri, BIMcollab, Revizto, usBIM and BIMvision each open IFC, and Solibri and usBIM also read native Revit files. A European toolchain therefore looks like one authoring tool plus a coordination layer, and the choice between them is a separate decision.

The honest test is the project, not the feature list. If your consultants all send Revit files and your client contract names that format, an authoring switch costs more than any licence saving. If you control the standard, IFC exchange between Archicad or Allplan and a Finnish or Dutch checker works without Autodesk in the loop.

How do BIM software prices compare when only some vendors publish them?

Four vendors give a number you can budget with. Allplan lists Basic at EUR 123, Concept at EUR 210, Professional at EUR 263 and Ultimate at EUR 353 per user per month, billed yearly and excluding VAT. BricsCAD runs from EUR 330 per year for Lite to EUR 1,176 for Ultimate. BIMcollab charges EUR 12.50, 18.75 or 25 per user per month on annual billing. Solibri starts at EUR 99 a year and reaches EUR 2,772 for Premium.

The units differ, so a table of lowest prices misleads. dRofus prices by building area, shown as EUR 2.02 and EUR 4.04 per 100 m2 for Planning and Project, with volume, device and integration fees added and the billing period not stated. Solibri adds prepaid tokens, from EUR 250 for 5,000. Speckle has a free plan limited to one project and three users, with paid plans on request.

Archicad, Dalux, Revizto and cadwork publish no price on the pages we checked. Dalux does say its field app is free for unlimited users on a project, and Dalux sells the other modules per project or per company. Plan on a quote for these four, and ask what a second subcontractor or a second office costs.

Does a European BIM vendor keep project data under European law?

The contracting entity does, which is what the GDPR cares about. Graphisoft SE is registered in Budapest, Solibri Oy is governed by Finnish law with arbitration in Helsinki, Kubus B.V. (BIMcollab) is a Dutch company with Chamber of Commerce number 17076900, and Bricsys NV answers to Belgian law. Revizto SA applies Swiss law and the Swiss data protection act alongside the GDPR.

Where the files sit is a separate question and the answers vary. dRofus uses AWS Europe in a region the customer chooses, yet its privacy policy also names hosting in the United States, Canada and Australia. Revizto lists Dublin and London among many regions that include the USA. Speckle defaults to the UK and offers EU storage only on Enterprise. BIMvision keeps models on the local machine, and Archicad can teamwork through a BIMcloud you run yourself.

Ownership matters as much as hosting. Four of the thirteen belong to Nemetschek, a German group, and BricsCAD now belongs to Octave, spun off from Hexagon AB in 2025. Revizto and BIMcollab did not state an owner on the pages checked. Ask each vendor for its sub-processor list before you sign.

What breaks when a firm moves its models from Revit to a European tool?

Families, parametric content and project templates do not travel. Archicad, Allplan and BricsCAD can exchange geometry through IFC, but custom Revit families, schedules and view templates have to be rebuilt in the new tool, and that rebuild is the real cost of the move.

The checking and coordination side is easier. Solibri federates IFC on every tier and native Revit models from Essential upward, usBIM opens RVT and RFA files in a browser, and Speckle has a Revit connector that versions model data. These tools let a firm keep Revit for now while moving the review work to a European vendor, which makes them the low-risk first step.

Plan the exit in stages: coordination first, authoring on one new project later. Keep a read-only Revit licence for the archive until the last project handed over has passed its defect period.

When should a firm stay with its current BIM setup instead of switching?

Stay when the project partners dictate the format. A contractor that receives Revit models from six consultants gains little from an Archicad licence, and a coordinator who must open those files needs a viewer such as Solibri or usBIM, not a new authoring tool.

Stay when the jurisdiction pull is weak. A firm that handles no public-sector or defence work and has no client clause on data location may find that the saving in sovereignty does not cover the retraining. For public bodies the case runs the other way: Solibri offers Security+ as an offline, air-gapped tier for government and defence, and BIMvision keeps models on the desktop.

Stay, finally, when the tool you need is a specialist one. CYPE is built around Spanish and southern European design codes, and cadwork serves timber trades, mostly through German-language pages. Both are strong inside their niche and a poor fit outside it.

How do the European BIM tools fit together in one workflow?

They connect through open formats. IFC carries geometry and properties between authoring and review, BCF carries issues, and IDS, supported by Solibri and BIMcollab, carries the information requirements a model must meet. A typical chain is Archicad or Allplan for authoring, Solibri for rule checks, BIMcollab or Revizto for issue tracking, and Dalux for the site.

dRofus and Speckle handle data rather than drawings. dRofus holds room and equipment requirements in a database linked to the model, and its package pages describe that link as the point of the product. Speckle keeps versioned model data and feeds dashboards, with connectors for Revit, Rhino, Grasshopper, Tekla, Civil 3D and IFC.

Check the APIs before you commit. BricsCAD documents .NET and BRX interfaces, BIMvision has an SDK and a Python bridge, dRofus lists an API, and Revizto adds an API and an MCP server for AI assistants. A team that scripts its workflow should shortlist on those interfaces, not on the feature tick-list.

How we selected and ranked these 13 tools

Every tool on this page is in the European Purpose directory, which means the operating company is established in Europe and we have verified that from the company register or the vendor's own legal notice rather than from a marketing page. Tools headquartered outside Europe are not eligible, however good they are.

  1. Feature verification (weight: 40%). We check each capability against the vendor's own documentation and product pages, and record what the tool does rather than what the category is assumed to include.
  2. Ease of adoption (weight: 30%). Integrations, published API access, trial availability and how much configuration stands between signing and a usable result.
  3. Value and transparency (weight: 30%). Published pricing counts in a vendor's favour; quote-only pricing is recorded as quote-only rather than estimated. We weigh what a buyer gets for the entry price, not the headline feature count.
  4. Editorial review. Every page is researched and drafted with AI assistance, and the compliance and pricing claims are checked against the vendor's documentation before it is published under the founder's editorial responsibility. The three weights above decide the order; a position is a ranking against the other European tools in this category, not an absolute score.

Vendor-reported outcomes — ROI figures, margin uplift, time saved — are labelled as vendor claims wherever they appear on this page. We have not audited them, and neither has anyone else who quotes them. Read our full editorial process for how pages are re-verified.

Frequently asked questions

Archicad from Graphisoft in Budapest ranks first in this directory as the authoring tool, with Allplan and BricsCAD next for firms that need engineering breadth or DWG compatibility. For checking and coordination the strongest names are Solibri, BIMcollab and Revizto. The best choice depends on the role: authoring, model checking, site use or data exchange.

Yes, in the viewer and coordination layers. BIMvision is a freeware IFC viewer from Cracow, usBIM offers free apps with 10 GB of cloud storage, Dalux provides a field app that is free for unlimited users on a project, and Speckle has a free plan with one project and three users. None of these is a free authoring tool.

Archicad (Graphisoft), Allplan, Solibri and dRofus each state or show a Nemetschek Group link on their pages. BricsCAD, Dalux, BIMcollab, CYPE, usBIM, BIMvision and cadwork state no such link on the pages checked. Nemetschek is a German group, so the ownership stays European, but it means four of these tools share one parent.

Revizto SA in Lausanne names the Swiss data protection act and the GDPR in its privacy policy, and Speckle is a UK company where the UK adequacy decision applies. Neither is in the EU, so the legal footing rests on adequacy and contract commitments, not on direct EU membership. Both are marked that way on their tool pages.

Archicad, Allplan, BricsCAD, CYPE and cadwork are desktop applications. Solibri sells Security+ as a fully offline tier with no telemetry, aimed at government, defence and sovereign infrastructure, and BIMvision keeps models on the local machine. Browser and cloud tools such as usBIM, BIMcollab and Speckle need a connection.

Some can. Solibri federates native Revit models from the Essential tier, usBIM views RVT and RFA files in the browser, and BricsCAD handles Revit as a BIM format at the BIM and Ultimate levels. BIMvision reads IFC 2x3 and IFC 4 exported from Revit, not the native format. Check the file version you hold before you buy.
