Detailed Review
Windy is best known as a consumer wind map, and its API pages say the same data feeds Windy.com. Three products exist side by side: raw point forecasts, a map you embed and control from code, and a webcam directory.
The terms of use identify Windyty, SE, registered at Strakonická 3363/2d, Prague 5, Company ID 04641647, and say Czech law applies.
Point Forecast in detail
The testing key is free, capped at 500 requests a day and returns randomly shuffled, slightly modified data, so it is for development only. The Professional plan is 990 € a year, with 10,000 requests a day that can be raised by agreement.
Parameters include wind, gusts, temperature, dew point, precipitation by type, CAPE, cloud layers, humidity, pressure, waves, swell and several air-quality species.
Model list and a licence gap
Available models include AROME, ICON-EU, GFS, GFS Wave, NAM for the US regions and CAMS. The ECMWF model is excluded from point forecast because of licensing conditions.
Only the most recent forecast values come back; past forecasts cannot be retrieved.
Map Forecast
The Map Forecast API lets a site show Windy maps and control layers through code, with its own pricing and tutorial pages. This differs from a data-only API: the visual layer is the product.
The Webcams API exposes what the site calls the largest collection of webcams worldwide.
Limitations to Consider
Point forecast has no history and no ECMWF model, and its testing tier deliberately degrades the data. Prices for the map and webcam APIs were not read. The site's cookie and data-location details were not checked. For ECMWF-based data or reanalysis look at Meteomatics.
Who Should Use Windy API
Product teams for sailing, aviation, outdoor or travel apps that want Windy's visual map or wind-focused data.
