Seznam.cz

Seznam.cz is the internet portal most Czechs open before Google, and it has been building toward that since 1996.

Search sits alongside its own email, maps, news, dictionary and shopping search, with more than thirty products run from its own data centres by a company of over 1,900 people. Its search help pages describe Seznam AI, a conversational mode logged-in users can switch to from the search box, plus direct answers from a language model and summaries of the results page, but unlike Mistral, Seznam does not say which model the assistant is built on.

For a Czech- or Slovak-speaking household this is a plausible one-stop switch from Google: the homepage already carries maps, transit times and shopping search, so leaving Google means fewer tabs rather than more.

Outside that language area the case is thin — the portal, news feed and most of the ecosystem are Czech-only, and nothing here matches the multilingual reach of Qwant or Mistral Vibe. It belongs in this category on the same terms as Ecosia or MetaGer: a genuine alternative search box, crawled by its own SeznamBot, not a rival to Mistral's answer engine.

Seznam.cz, a.s. is registered in Prague, and the Czech company register lists it as active since 2000, built around a service the company itself dates to 1996 — one of the longest-running products in this directory.

Data stays with a Czech company on infrastructure it says it owns, under Czech and EU law. The honest gap is verification: Seznam's own pages did not yield the technical detail — index size, or which model powers Seznam AI — this review would need to rank it any higher.

What Seznam.cz does well

• Own data centres and 30+ bundled services in one login
• Maps, transit, dictionary and shopping alongside search
• Running continuously since 1996, one of the oldest portals here
• Registered Czech company (Seznam.cz, a.s.), Prague headquarters
• Free, no account required

Where Seznam.cz falls short

• Interface and content almost entirely in Czech and Slovak
• No public detail on which model powers Seznam AI
• Index size and coverage not published
• Little reason to choose it outside the Czech-speaking market

Standout feature. Online since 1996, level with MetaGer as the longest-running entry here — a search box built inside a Czech portal, not a challenger brand.
