Detailed Review
GO2cam sells its CAM software as stepped ranges rather than one monolith. The milling line has Mill Basic for 2.5-axis work, Mill Basic+, Mill Classic and Mill Expert, and the turning line goes from Turn Basic up to TurnMill Expert. A shop can start on the lower step and move up later.
The company is SAS GO2cam International at 139 rue Vendôme in Lyon. Its own about page says the product is still made in Lyon and that the firm, now with more than 50 staff, was taken over by its employees.
Graded product ranges
On the milling page, Mill Basic covers pockets, contouring, slotting and hole cycles in 2.5 axes with imported wireframe CAD. Mill Basic+ adds solid-based milling with stock handling and automatic work planes, and Mill Classic is described as covering milling from 3 to 5 axes, including 5-axis positioning and 3-axis roughing and finishing.
Add-ons such as gun drilling, probing and a machine tool environment module are sold on top, so the base price is not the final one.
Turning, Swiss and wire EDM
The TurnMill range runs from plain two-axis turning with grooving and threading to C-axis, B-axis and Y-axis work, and GO2cam lists Swiss-type machining and wire EDM as separate product lines. Its opelist function stores cutting cycles and conditions per machine, material and tool so the software can apply them automatically after feature recognition.
Sector variants include dental CAM and a version that runs inside SOLIDWORKS.
Who stands behind it
A company of this size cannot match the reseller reach of the large CAM brands, but GO2cam traces the story of its technology back to 1991, when a team of nine programmers worked for another software publisher, and says the company was later bought by its employees. It also builds tailor-made OEM solutions for machine-tool makers.
Limitations to Consider
GO2cam does not publish prices, so a quote through the company or a reseller is needed before comparing. Its public pages describe a company of about fifty people, which means a smaller reseller network and community than the biggest CAM brands. Shops that need extensive 5-axis automation or an integrated MES may find hyperMILL or Tebis better documented.
Who Should Use GO2cam
Small and mid-size job shops and subcontractors in Europe that want a French vendor with a stepped licence structure and the option to add turning, Swiss work or wire EDM later.
