Review in detail
Alpenvereinaktiv is the online tour portal of three Alpine clubs. The imprint names the Deutscher Alpenverein e.V. in Munich, the Österreichischer Alpenverein in Innsbruck and the Alpenverein Südtirol in Bolzano as operators of the offer.
The terms state that Outdooractive AG, Missener Straße 18, 87509 Immenstadt, acts as technical operator and as contracting party for users. The company is registered at the Amtsgericht Kempten under HRB 15575.
What Alpenvereinaktiv offers hikers
Alpenvereinaktiv lists tours with a separate section for current conditions, huts, avalanche situation and mountain weather. The menu also lists ski tours, hut trekking, climbing and barrier-free routes.
The Basic plan lets users plan tours for over 30 outdoor activities and print the tour description. Activities can be synchronised with Garmin, Strava, Suunto and other services.
Plans and prices on Alpenvereinaktiv
Alpenvereinaktiv lists Basic as free, Pro at EUR 2.50 a month and Pro+ at EUR 5.00 a month, each marked with an asterisk whose conditions we did not read. Pro adds the official topo maps, partner discounts of up to 30% and offline saving of maps and tours.
Members of the DAV, ÖAV or AVS can request a Pro voucher that also includes the digital Alpine club maps.
Alpenvereinaktiv as a European alternative to AllTrails
Alpenvereinaktiv replaces AllTrails for mountain hiking in the Alps, where the clubs maintain the tour content. The contracting entity is German, not a US company.
The portal is built for the Alpine region, so hikers outside the Alps will find less local content than AllTrails shows for US parks.
Where it falls short
The pages we read are in German and the tour content centres on the Alps. Offline maps need a paid Pro plan. The pricing page shows asterisks whose conditions we did not read, and hosting location is not stated. Compare with Outdooractive, which runs the same platform for a wider region.
