European Interior Design Software Tools

Interior design software lets you draw a floor plan, place walls, furniture and materials, and present the result in 2D or 3D. The European tools below are run by companies in Germany, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Hungary and Norway, so the contract sits with a European entity instead of a US software company. They range from free room planners to BIM and joinery tools.

How we rank these tools — 4-step process
  1. 1
    European ownership, verified

The company is headquartered and incorporated in the EU, EEA, the UK, Switzerland or Israel, and processes customer data in Europe or Israel. A US parent company disqualifies a tool from this page regardless of where its servers are.

  2. 2
    Category fit and hands-on review

What the tool actually does, who it suits, and where it falls short — checked against the vendor’s own documentation, changelog and pricing page rather than its marketing copy.

  3. 3
    Compliance and pricing check

GDPR posture, hosting location and the prices quoted on this page are verified against the vendor’s public pricing before publication, and re-checked when we revisit the category.

  4. 4
    Position on this page

Placement on this page can be paid, and that can affect the order tools appear in. It never buys a listing: a tool that fails the checks above is not here at any price, and payment does not change the shortcomings we write about. A vendor can ask us to correct a factual error — not to remove a criticism.

Vendors can pay for visibility on this page. It never changes what an entry says about a product, including the criticism, and we earn nothing when you click through to a vendor. Vendors can pay for more visibility, higher up on the review pages; it never affects whether a tool is listed. Editorial policy

Key takeaways

  • Archicad from Graphisoft in Budapest ranks first among the interior design tools in this directory, because Studio teams can keep the project server in-house and the drawings follow from the model.
  • Floorplanner, Cedreo, RoomSketcher and Archiplain all start free, but the limits differ: five projects, one project, two credits and three projects respectively.
  • Kitchen Draw, Palette CAD and Pytha are trade tools for kitchens, bathrooms and joinery, and none of them is aimed at designing a whole house.
  • Hosting is rarely European by default: Space Designer 3D stores accounts and content in Google Cloud services, RoomSketcher may process data in the United States, and only Archiplain names a European host, OVH in Roubaix.
  • Roomstyler and Floorplanner come from one Rotterdam vendor, FLOORPLANNER.COM B.V., which pairs a free styling community with a plan editor sold through credits.

European interior design software covers the planning programmes and web apps from European vendors that turn rooms, kitchens, floor plans and workshop interiors into drawings, quotations and 3D images, and the vendor's location matters because a client's floor plan is personal data and a commercial drawing.

Every European interior design software tool reviewed

#1 Archicad

Budapest, Hungary Founded 1982 Subscription plans (Studio, Collaborate); see website for prices Demo on request

Best for: Architecture practices that model buildings and derive their drawing sets from the model

  • Operating company. Graphisoft SE
  • Jurisdiction. EU (Hungary)
  • Where the data sits. Desktop application; teamwork on BIMcloud you host, or cloud plan
  • Source code. Closed source
  • Replaces. AutoCAD Architecture, Revit

Archicad earns the first position here on one criterion: drawings that follow from a building model. Change a wall and the sections, elevations and schedules change with it, and design options keep alternative layouts inside one project file. Graphisoft claims usage in 108 countries and 27 languages.

Graphisoft SE of Budapest signs the contracts, has been active since 1982 and appears in the Budapest-Capital Regional Court registry. The Nemetschek Group owns it. Studio is for solo architects and local teams, and Collaborate adds cloud teamwork for several disciplines. No plan price is printed on the pages checked, so ask for a quote.

What Archicad does well

  • Vendor in business since 1982 with a BIM-only product line
  • Studio plan lets a local team run BIMcloud Basic on its own server
  • BIMx turns a model into an interactive walkthrough for clients
  • Vendor offers educational licences and training
  • Contract signed with Graphisoft SE, a Hungarian company

Where Archicad falls short

  • Neither plan lists a figure on the pages reviewed
  • Built for buildings, so poor fit for general 2D or mechanical drafting
  • Parent company is the Nemetschek Group
  • The imprint names an American firm as website host

Standout feature. Archicad lets a Studio team keep its BIM project server in-house.

#2 Cedreo

Saint-Herblain (Nantes), France Founded 2016 Free plan (one project); paid Personal, Pro and Enterprise plans, prices not readable server-side (see website) Demo on request

Best for: Builders and remodelers who hand prospects plans and renderings

  • Operating company. CEDREO SAS
  • Jurisdiction. EU (France)
  • Where the data sits. Not stated on the pages checked
  • Source code. Closed source
  • Replaces. SketchUp

Cedreo is aimed at people who sell houses and renovations. One project moves from terrain and site plan to floor plan, cross-section, elevation and roof plan, with a surface area table. Renderings, inside and outside, pick a camera angle and a sun position on their own.

Saint-Herblain hosts CEDREO SAS, entered at the Nantes register as 824 623 409 with a share capital of 227,170 euro. The company register names SOFTNEXT, a Paris SAS, as president. Cedreo calls itself a certified B Corp and a mission-driven business since 2022, and has offices in Atlanta and Munich too. Personal plans are bought project by project, 20 rendering credits included.

What Cedreo does well

  • French SAS with its Nantes register number on the terms (824 623 409)
  • Plan set covers elevations and roof plans as well as floor plans
  • One-project free plan to try the editor without a card
  • Renderings choose camera angle and sunlight automatically
  • Vendor states B Corp certification

Where Cedreo falls short

  • Plain page text shows no prices
  • After upgrading, a cheaper tier is no longer selectable
  • Free plan holds a single project
  • Hosting country goes unmentioned in the pages reviewed

Standout feature. Cedreo outputs roof plans and elevations from a browser tool, which most floor plan apps here leave out.

#3 Floorplanner

Rotterdam, Netherlands Founded 2007 Free for up to 5 projects (SD exports with watermark); credit packs from $8.15 for 5 credits; basic, plus and pro subscriptions (see website) Demo on request

Best for: Home owners, agents and shops that want a plan plus 3D pictures with no CAD installation

  • Operating company. FLOORPLANNER.COM B.V.
  • Jurisdiction. EU (Netherlands)
  • Where the data sits. Not stated on the pages checked
  • Source code. Closed source
  • Replaces. SketchUp

Floorplanner lives entirely in the browser. You sketch rooms, drag walls, drop in doors and windows, then check the result in a live 3D view and furnish it from a catalogue that the vendor sizes at over 260,000 models. Sharper exports and renders cost credits, and renders can reach 8K according to the vendor.

Dutch law governs the terms of FLOORPLANNER.COM B.V., a Rotterdam company at Stationsplein 45 with KVK number 24421263. According to its about page it is self-funded, profitable and about 30 strong, and architects and a civil engineer founded the product in 2007. Roomstyler and the Floorscanner phone scanner are its siblings.

What Floorplanner does well

  • Opens in any browser, no plug-in needed
  • Five projects stay free for as long as you want
  • 3D library with roughly 260,000 models, per the vendor, open to every account
  • Rotterdam company with KVK number, under Dutch law
  • Credit packs let you pay per render, with no compulsory subscription

Where Floorplanner falls short

  • Free exports are 960 by 540 pixels and watermarked
  • Credit packs are priced in US dollars
  • No hosting country appears in the pages reviewed
  • Cannot produce construction documents

Standout feature. Floorplanner lets a free account keep five projects indefinitely and charges only for better output.

Where RoomSketcher falls short

  • Monthly credits cap how many renders you get

  • Project collaboration is limited to the Team plan

Standout feature. RoomSketcher is the entry that also delivers finished floor plans drawn by its own staff.

ACCA software S.p.A. is registered at Bagnoli Irpino near Avellino, and its company profile dates the company to 1989. Which European interior design software suits a professional designer?

The answer depends on whether the output is a building, a room or a workshop order.

Cedreo sits between the groups, since it produces plans, elevations, roof plans and renderings for builders and remodelers. Pick the tool that matches the document your client signs, because a rendering tool will not generate a production file and a production tool will not make a sales image in ten minutes.

What does European interior design software cost?

Published prices are rare in this category. RoomSketcher lists Pro at $24 a month monthly or $12 a month billed at $144 yearly, and Team at $70 or $35. Space Designer 3D lists Premium at $25 a month, Ultimate at $45 and Team at $80 for two seats. Kitchen Draw lists 4,90 EUR for PRO and 3,90 EUR for GROUP, without a unit.

Archiplain asks 19 EUR for Premium, with no stated billing period. Floorplanner sells credits from .15 for five. Archicad, Edificius, Palette CAD, Pytha and the pCon.planner PRO edition print no price in the pages we read, so budget a call or a dealer visit.

Is there free interior design software from a European company?

Several tools have a free way in. Floorplanner keeps five projects at no charge, with watermarked exports at 960 by 540 pixels. Cedreo allows one project and needs no card. Archiplain gives three projects, and pCon.planner has a free edition for download.

Roomstyler costs nothing, with a trade-off in its terms: designs made under the free subscription are licensed to the vendor for publication. Kitchen Draw PERSO is free up to 20 hours of use. Free tiers are good for judging fit, and each one withholds something you will want on a paid job.

Where is my floor plan stored when I use a European planner?

Few vendors say. Floorplanner, Cedreo, Edificius, pCon.planner, Palette CAD, Kitchen Draw and Pytha leave the storage country out of what we read. Space Designer 3D names Google Cloud services for accounts and content, and RoomSketcher allows Norway, the United States or other countries.

Archiplain stands out by naming OVH in Roubaix, France. Archicad is a desktop application, with teamwork on a BIMcloud server that Studio customers host. An EU company address settles the contract and the regulator, but it does not settle where the files sit.

How do I move from Chief Architect or SketchUp to a European tool?

The tool pages name what each European tool replaces: Archicad replaces Revit and AutoCAD Architecture, Edificius, pCon.planner, Palette CAD, Pytha, Space Designer 3D, Kitchen Draw and Archiplain replace Chief Architect for different jobs, and Cedreo, Floorplanner, RoomSketcher and Roomstyler replace SketchUp. None of that comes with an import path, so plan a redraw.

Export PDFs and DXF files from the old tool first. Archiplain and Space Designer 3D accept or produce DXF on their paid plans, and pCon.planner imports dwg and dxf. Keep the old licence alive until the first live project has gone through the new tool from sketch to client.

Is switching to European interior design software always a good idea?

Keep your current programme if your daily output is framing, roofs and materials lists. Among the European entries only the BIM tools, Archicad and Edificius, aim at construction documents, and for Edificius we could not read the product page.

Also stay put if a client contract fixes the file format of your drawings, or if you depend on a library that took years to build. A new tool changes the documents your team sends out, and an unplanned switch in the middle of a tender costs more than a licence.

How we selected and ranked these 12 tools

Every tool on this page is in the European Purpose directory, which means the operating company is established in Europe and we have verified that from the company register or the vendor's own legal notice rather than from a marketing page. Tools headquartered outside Europe are not eligible, however good they are.

  1. Feature verification (weight: 40%). We check each capability against the vendor's own documentation and product pages, and record what the tool does rather than what the category is assumed to include.
  2. Ease of adoption (weight: 30%). Integrations, published API access, trial availability and how much configuration stands between signing and a usable result.
  3. Value and transparency (weight: 30%). Published pricing counts in a vendor's favour; quote-only pricing is recorded as quote-only rather than estimated. We weigh what a buyer gets for the entry price, not the headline feature count.
  4. Editorial review. Every page is researched and drafted with AI assistance, and the compliance and pricing claims are checked against the vendor's documentation before it is published under the founder's editorial responsibility. The three weights above decide the order; a position is a ranking against the other European tools in this category, not an absolute score.

Vendor-reported outcomes — ROI figures, margin uplift, time saved — are labelled as vendor claims wherever they appear on this page. We have not audited them, and neither has anyone else who quotes them. Read our full editorial process for how pages are re-verified.

That depends on the job, and this directory ranks Archicad first for BIM-based building design. Cedreo suits builders who send plans and renderings, Floorplanner and RoomSketcher cover floor plans in the browser, and Kitchen Draw, Palette CAD and Pytha cover kitchen and joinery work. Each of the twelve is a European company.

Floorplanner has a free account with five projects, Cedreo a free plan with one project, Archiplain a free plan with three, pCon.planner a free edition and Roomstyler a free use subscription. Kitchen Draw PERSO is free for 20 hours of use. RoomSketcher starts at $0 with two credits.

Kitchen Draw from Transtechnology in Montigny-le-Bretonneux is built for kitchens, bathrooms and storage with manufacturer catalogues, quotations and VR headset support. Palette CAD in Stuttgart targets joinery, bathroom and shop fitting trades. Pytha in Aschaffenburg goes from design to production for joinery workshops.

Floorplanner, Cedreo, RoomSketcher and Roomstyler are the entries here whose tool pages name SketchUp as the product they replace. None is a general 3D modeller. They are focused on floor plans, rooms and renderings, so a user who models freeform objects will find less freedom.

Archiplain exports DXF on Premium at 19 EUR, and Space Designer 3D offers DXF export on Ultimate and Team. pCon.planner imports dwg and dxf and works with dwt and 3ds files. The other tools did not state a DXF export on the pages we read.

None of the twelve is open source. Each is a commercial product, and Edificius, Palette CAD and Pytha publish no price either. A hard open source requirement is not met by this category.
