Every European intelligent document processing (IDP) software tool reviewed
Asslar
Without a list price: pilots start at €5,000 and enterprise rollouts at €15,000, once a free discovery phase is done
Paid pilot follows a free discovery phase
Best for: Enterprises in Germany that want document AI to run inside their own network
Konfuzio bundles extraction, validation, compliance checks and routing into AI agents, and the vendor positions it for contracts, invoices and cases that span several documents in banking, insurance, healthcare and law. What sets Konfuzio apart from the other ten tools is the choice of venue: a German data centre, Hetzner or Telekom, one of the big three clouds, or a server inside the customer's own network.
Helm & Nagel GmbH in Asslar operates the product and appears under HRB 7706 at the Wetzlar court, and the site claims ISO 27001. No price list exists. According to the vendor, a free discovery phase leads to a pilot from €5,000 and a rollout from €15,000, followed by licences scaled to volume, so the buyer is an organisation with a project budget, not someone testing ten PDFs.
What Konfuzio does well
- German GmbH with a court registration on its imprint
- Can run entirely inside the customer's network
- Names Germany as a hosting location
- The vendor site claims ISO 27001
- Discovery phase costs nothing
Where Konfuzio falls short
- No self-service plan and no list price
- Pilots begin at €5,000
- Sized for enterprise projects rather than a quick API call
- Rankings and research mentions come from the vendor itself
Standout feature. Konfuzio alone in this list states full on-premises operation with no data outflow alongside German hosting.
Hauptstrasse 134, Sissach
By quotation; its pricing page prints no amounts
Playground, trial account and a demo
Best for: Banks, insurers and health providers in Switzerland and beyond
Parashift targets regulated industries with a platform for enterprise automation and with Dokumentli, a vision-language model it says outperforms general frontier models on business documents. Its solution pages follow the paperwork of a bank (dossiers, KYC), an insurer (claims, underwriting) and a care provider (referrals, payables).
Parashift AG is registered in Sissach under UID CHE-101.770.667. Being Swiss, it lies outside both the EU and the EEA: a strict EU-only policy rules it out, while a policy that merely avoids US vendors accepts it. No amounts appear on the pricing page. A demo, a trial account and a playground exist, and no hosting location is named in the pages read. Software vendors can embed the technology through OEM licences.
What Parashift does well
- Swiss AG with its UID on the imprint
- Dokumentli, a model of its own
- Industry pages for banking, insurance and health
- OEM licences for software vendors
- Trial account and playground offered
Where Parashift falls short
- Neither in the EU nor the EEA
- No amounts disclosed
- No hosting location is given
- Sold to enterprises, no self-service tier
Standout feature. Parashift builds its offer on a document model of its own and sells it to banks and insurers or, via OEM licences, to software houses.
Ljubljana
Charged per extracted page without commitment, plus an enterprise API plan with agreed volumes; rates available on request
A demo can be requested
Best for: Accounting firms and developers who want an API or ready-made invoice app
Typless is the Ljubljana service from Algoritmik d.o.o. that offers one extraction engine through two doors: tApp, which captures received invoices and exports them to the accounting package a firm already uses, and an IDP platform on which a team trains a model for its own document types. Output leaves as XML, JSON or webhooks, and input can be PDF, TIFF, PNG, JPEG or GIF.
According to its terms the servers stand in the EU (the country is not named). Two plans are listed: pay-as-you-go, charged per extracted page without commitment, and an enterprise plan for API use. The price list is on request. Typless describes incremental learning from validation corrections and quotes up to 95 percent accuracy, a vendor figure. It reads Latin-script European languages only, which rules out Greek, Cyrillic and Asian scripts.
What Typless does well
- EU company with a Ljubljana address
- Says its servers are in the EU
- Ready-made invoice app plus a trainable platform
- Pay-as-you-go option, no volume commitment
- Webhook, XML and JSON output
Where Typless falls short
- Latin-script languages only
- No public price list
- Country of the EU servers unnamed
- No on-premises option stated
Standout feature. It pairs a ready-made invoice app with a trainable extraction API under one account and bills by extracted page.
London
Self-service rates begin at GBP 0.08 a page for invoices and bank statements, assuming 100,000 pages monthly; training custom models carries a yearly GBP 10,000 charge
Book a demo
Best for: Lenders, investors and advisers who process financial statements and bank statements
Evolution AI is a London company with two products: Financial Statements AI for balance sheets, income statements and cash flow statements, and Transcribe AI for other documents such as invoices, bank statements, passports and driving licences. The vendor says its model was pre-trained on more than 25 million documents and reads new layouts without a training stage, and reports accuracy above 90 percent after 25 corrected documents and 98 percent after 200, which are its own test results.
Contracts are with Evolution Artificial Intelligence Ltd, registered in England and Wales, hence under UK law, and no hosting location appears on the pages we read.
For a buyer paying by the page, its pricing is the most transparent here: self-service from GBP 0.08 per page for bank statements and invoices at 100,000 pages a month, with an annual GBP 10,000 fee for custom models. A managed service adds its human-in-the-loop team, and RPA connectors include UiPath, Automation Anywhere and Blue Prism.
What Evolution AI does well
- Page rates are public
- New layouts read without training
- Managed service with human review
- Financial statements specialism
- RPA integrations listed
Where Evolution AI falls short
- Falls under UK, not EU, law
- No hosting location is given
- GBP 10,000 annual fee for custom models
- Finance-heavy focus
Standout feature. Evolution AI alone here reads financial statements as a dedicated product and offers a managed service where its own staff review the output.
Groningen
Quoted per document or as a yearly licence
Free credits come with the trial
Best for: Companies that need receipts, IDs and invoices read in many languages, with fraud checks
Doxis AI.dp, previously Klippa DocHorizon, can be used through an OCR API, a mobile SDK or a no-code workspace. The vendor counts 100+ document types, from invoices and receipts to passports, ID cards and bank statements, covering 150+ languages and 20+ file formats. JSON, CSV, XML, XLSX or UBL come back as output, and fraud screening and human review share the same flow.
Doxis AI Solutions B.V. of Groningen (KVK 74785834) is the contracting party. The vendor claims ISO 27001, ISAE 3000 Type I and EU servers with no country given, and says data is kept only when configured. Quotes are per document or for a yearly licence, and the trial comes with free credits. The name change from Klippa is still under way, so the vendor's pages mix both brands.
What Doxis AI.dp (formerly Klippa) does well
- Netherlands B.V. registered under a KVK number
- 100+ document types, 150+ languages
- Claims ISO 27001 plus ISAE 3000 Type I
- Fraud checks plus a human review step
- Use it as an API, a mobile SDK or a no-code workspace
Where Doxis AI.dp (formerly Klippa) falls short
- Prices not published
- Klippa and Doxis names both still in use
- Country of the EU servers unnamed
- Belongs to a bigger group since 2025
Standout feature. Doxis AI.dp pairs 100+ document types with fraud checks and a mobile SDK, a mix the plain OCR APIs here do not offer.
Bentsebrugata 31E, 0469 Oslo
A Free tier ($0, 50 pages monthly), Builder at $40 a month and 500 pages, Pro at $240 a month and 5,000 pages (both with annual contracts), and tailor-made Enterprise
The Free plan needs no credit card
Best for: Builders who wire document extraction into n8n, Zapier or Power Automate flows
Cradl AI presents agents that read long, multi-page documents into fields, tables and line items, split and classify them, and hold exceptions for a person to check. Its connectors target n8n, Power Automate, Zapier and plain webhooks, which means the product suits someone assembling a flow rather than a department procuring a capture suite.
The company behind it, Lucidtech AS, registers in Oslo as organisation number 918 345 787 MVA; Norway belongs to the EEA yet not to the EU.
The privacy policy puts the main hosting in the EU/EEA, run on Amazon Web Services, with analytics data travelling to US servers via standard contractual clauses. Prices are in dollars across four tiers: Free (50 pages monthly), Builder ($40 for 500 pages), Pro ($240 for 5,000 pages) and Enterprise, with annual billing on the two paid self-serve ones.
What Cradl AI does well
- Every self-service tier carries a price
- Free tier of 50 pages a month
- Extraction at table and line-item level
- Works with n8n, Power Automate and Zapier
- Norwegian AS, number given in its terms
Where Cradl AI falls short
- Norwegian, so EEA rather than EU
- Dollar pricing
- AWS named as the infrastructure provider
- Low monthly page limits on the cheaper tiers
Standout feature. Cradl AI starts with a free 50 pages a month and steps up through $40 and $240 plans, with workflow-tool connectors throughout.
Potsdam, with an office in Berlin
Each finished transaction is billed: €0.25 upward for an invoice, €0.20 upward for an order confirmation, delivery note or order-management item, with volume discounts for workloads up to 5 million documents a year
Best for: Accounts-payable and order teams who want to be billed per document
Hypatos ships AI agents for the paperwork around a transaction: invoices, order confirmations, delivery notes, sales orders and dunning letters. Customers take a packaged workforce or compose their own, and the site names SAP, Coupa and Workday connectors. The buyer is a finance operations team inside a larger company, not a developer looking for an OCR endpoint.
The imprint is Hypatos GmbH in Potsdam, with a second office in Berlin. The price page works on completed work: from €0.25 for an invoice and from €0.20 for an order confirmation, delivery note or order item, for annual volumes up to 5 million documents, with volume discounts. These figures presume the recommended full scope, detailed terms require a quote, and no hosting region is given in the pages read.
What Hypatos does well
- Prices listed for each document type
- Bill follows finished work, not seats or tokens
- GmbH with imprint and VAT number
- Invoices, orders and delivery notes in one product
- Volume discounts described
Where Hypatos falls short
- Listed prices are starting points for a full-scope setup
- Hosting region unstated
- Detailed terms only via sales
- Not aimed at developers who want a simple endpoint
Standout feature. Hypatos bills per completed document, starting at €0.20, so the cost tracks finished work instead of licences or seats.
5 Boulevard des Bouvets, Nanterre
Twenty credits free, then Advanced for €199 monthly excluding tax (about €0.20 per page); Enterprise by quotation
Twenty free credits to start
Best for: Small teams wanting a visible monthly price and a fraud score to try
Koncile offers an API, an SDK and MCP access over ready extractors for invoices, bank statements, identity documents, contracts, bills of lading and prescriptions. A separate fraud service rates each document between 0 and 1 using more than 150 signals, and sits inside Enterprise contracts. Results flow on to SAP, Excel, n8n, Make and Power Automate.
Koncile SAS of Nanterre (RCS 948 056 205) appears in the legal notice and also signs the terms; no affiliate outside Europe is mentioned. A free tier gives 20 credits. The Advanced plan costs €199 a month before tax, about €0.20 a page, with unlimited extractors, while Enterprise goes by quote. Overage is billed as it occurs, SEPA direct debit is accepted, and the pages read state no processing region.
What Koncile does well
- French SAS, RCS number in the legal notice
- Monthly price shown: €199
- 20 free credits for a first test
- Fraud score built on 150+ signals
- Output to SAP, Excel and three automation tools
Where Koncile falls short
- API use needs the €199 plan
- Fraud scoring only in Enterprise contracts
- Processing region unstated
- Fewer customer references than the established vendors
Standout feature. Koncile prints a single monthly price with an approximate per-page cost and unlimited extractors, whereas most enterprise-minded rivals here want you to request a quote.
Kaiserslautern
Founded 1998
Available when you ask
Ask for a demo
Best for: Insurers, banks, public bodies and ERP vendors embedding document recognition
Insiders Technologies describes itself as a spin-off of the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence and dates its roots to 1998, when a small team around CEO Werner Weiss began work on document analysis. The product line includes smart INVOICE for incoming invoices, OvAItion, OmnIA, e-invoicing, mobile capture and response management for insurance, banking, health care, the public sector and industry.
Insiders Technologies GmbH is based in Kaiserslautern and its imprint names it a proALPHA Group company. According to the vendor, the software is developed and sold with VAR, OEM and BPO partners, and customer stories show the engine inside other products, for example pds GmbH embedding smart INVOICE in its ERP and a solution in Microsoft 365 offered on the Azure Marketplace. Prices come on request, and hosting, certifications and self-hosting get little attention in the pages we checked.
What Insiders Technologies does well
- Roots in AI research since 1998
- German company with Kaiserslautern address
- Invoice, e-invoicing and correspondence products
- OEM and cloud delivery routes
- Active content on the EU AI Act
Where Insiders Technologies falls short
- Prices are not public
- Few hosting details in the pages we read
- Sold mainly through partners
- Part of the proALPHA Group
Standout feature. Insiders Technologies mostly ships inside the products of other vendors, and its research roots go back to 1998.
Ghent
Founded 2006
Only after contacting sales
Demo through the sales team
Best for: Regulated organisations that need intake and long-term evidence in one chain
Docbyte was founded in Ghent in 2006 and, according to its homepage, appears on the EU Trusted List as a Qualified Trust Service Provider for long-term preservation and qualified electronic archiving (VAT number BE0880119503). Its IDP function is Vault Review, a module of Docbyte Vault that captures, classifies, extracts, validates and routes inbound documents, with confidence scoring and a human review queue for low-confidence items.
Documents arrive by scan, e-mail, portal, API or batch, and every step is logged so the processing record can follow the document into the archive. Vault Collect adds guided uploads with required document lists per process, completeness checks and an immutable audit log, which suits KYC-style onboarding. Prices come on request, the pages we read give no hosting location, and the documented model library is smaller than at specialists like Konfuzio or Parashift.
What Docbyte does well
- Belgian qualified trust service provider
- Intake, extraction and archive in one chain
- Human review queue for exceptions
- Audit trail from first receipt
- Required-document lists for KYC-style processes
Where Docbyte falls short
- IDP is a module, not the main product
- Prices are not public
- Hosting site goes unnamed
- Smaller documented model library
Standout feature. Docbyte feeds document intake directly into a qualified electronic archive, keeping an audit trail from the moment of receipt.
Germering
Cloud tiers scale with users and storage, for 4, 15, 40 or 100 users, and cost what the sales team quotes
Demos are arranged on request
Best for: Firms wanting invoice handling within a broader document management system, with on-premises as an option
DocuWare is a document management platform, and its invoice page lists capture, background validation, duplicate checks, workflows with reminders, three-way matching to purchase orders and delivery notes, ERP export, tracking, archiving and full-text search. The vendor lists more than 500 integrations. Extraction is one step in a system that also stores, routes and retrieves the document afterwards.
DocuWare GmbH of Germering issues the general business terms, and its company page says the product began in Germany and has belonged to Ricoh since 2019.
Cloud plans come in tiers by users and storage (4, 15, 40 or 100 users) and are priced on request. Data centres sit in the U.S., the EU, Japan and Australia, so name the region in the order. You can also run it on-premises or as a hybrid; the invoice page, though, includes no supplier payments or supplier network.
What DocuWare does well
- Invoice workflow within a complete document system
- Deployable as cloud, on-premises or hybrid
- An EU data centre region exists
- Over 500 integrations listed
- Built-in archive with full-text search
Where DocuWare falls short
- Prices are unpublished
- Invoice page offers no payment run or supplier network
- Ricoh is the owner
- Built around documents first, accounts payable second
Standout feature. DocuWare embeds invoice capture in a full document archive and workflow system, which can additionally be hosted on-premises.
