European Game Server Hosting Tools

Game server hosting rents you a ready-made server for Minecraft, Counter-Strike, Valheim and other games, with a panel for mods, backups and player slots. A European option matters because the contract, the invoices and the player data then sit with a company registered in Europe (for example Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden or Estonia) instead of a US LLC.

How we rank these tools — 4-step process
  1. 1
    European ownership, verified

The company is headquartered and incorporated in the EU, EEA, the UK, Switzerland or Israel, and processes customer data in Europe or Israel. A US parent company disqualifies a tool from this page regardless of where its servers are.

  2. 2
    Category fit and hands-on review

What the tool actually does, who it suits, and where it falls short — checked against the vendor’s own documentation, changelog and pricing page rather than its marketing copy.

  3. 3
    Compliance and pricing check

GDPR posture, hosting location and the prices quoted on this page are verified against the vendor’s public pricing before publication, and re-checked when we revisit the category.

  4. 4
    Position on this page

Placement on this page can be paid, and that can affect the order tools appear in. It never buys a listing: a tool that fails the checks above is not here at any price, and payment does not change the shortcomings we write about. A vendor can ask us to correct a factual error — not to remove a criticism.

Vendors can pay for visibility on this page. It never changes what an entry says about a product, including the criticism, and we earn nothing when you click through to a vendor. Vendors can pay for more visibility, higher up on the review pages; it never affects whether a tool is listed. Editorial policy

Key takeaways

  • ZAP-Hosting GmbH in Münster rents servers for a long list of games and sells FiveM, TeamSpeak 3, VPS and root servers on the same account, which makes it the widest German offer in this category.
  • Aternos and Minefort are the two places to try a Minecraft server without paying: Aternos GmbH in Bonn has no paid tier at all, and Minefort.com B.V. in Amsterdam gives a free plan of 1 GB RAM and 10 players.
  • Space-Node and DatHost publish the most about where servers run, Space-Node with a processor per region and DatHost with 36 listed locations, while six other hosts state no data location at all on the pages we read.
  • exaroton bills prepaid credits per GB-hour only while a server is online, MintServers sells one plan that swaps between 60 games, and DatHost bills Counter-Strike 2 per player slot, so three hosts here avoid the fixed price per RAM size.
  • ServerMiner is the only host in this category outside the EU: Serverminer Limited of Tunbridge Wells is covered by the UK adequacy decision, not by EU company law.

European game server hosting is the rental of a ready-made Minecraft, Counter-Strike, Rust or Valheim server, with a control panel for mods, backups and player slots, from a company established in Europe. The European part decides who holds the contract, who issues the invoice and which court hears a dispute over a lost world or a wrongly cancelled plan.

#1 ZAP-Hosting

Münster, Germany The English homepage shows game servers from $2.99 and lifetime servers. Individual games carry their own from-prices, for example Subnautica 2 from $6.50. Prices include statutory VAT according to the imprint. Demo on request

Best for: Players who want one German provider for game servers, voice servers and VPS

  • Operating company. ZAP-Hosting GmbH
  • Jurisdiction. EU (Germany)
  • Where the data sits. Selectable; the pages we read list own sites in Dallas and Los Angeles (PsychZ) and a Canadian site in Beauharnois, so EU placement has to be chosen at order
  • Source code. Closed source
  • Replaces. Apex Hosting

ZAP-Hosting is the game hosting brand of ZAP-Hosting GmbH, an operator in Münster with the register entry HRB 15672 at Amtsgericht Münster and the VAT number DE 320366231. The imprint and the terms name the same company, so the contract partner is easy to identify.

The catalogue stretches past Minecraft to game servers, cloud game servers, lifetime servers, FiveM servers, TeamSpeak 3, Discord music bots, VPS, root servers, dedicated servers, web space and domains. The English pages show dollars, from $2.99, and each game carries its own from-price. The locations we read include Dallas, Los Angeles and Beauharnois, so choose a European site when ordering.

What ZAP-Hosting does well

  • German GmbH with a full imprint and register entry
  • Wide game list with from-prices per game
  • FiveM, TeamSpeak and VPS under one account

#2 Space-Node

  • Replaces. Apex Hosting

Space-Node is a Dutch hosting company registered with the Chamber of Commerce under KvK 42164898, with a VAT number on its site and a founding year of 2023 in its fact sheet. It sells Minecraft Java and Bedrock servers plus FiveM, Rust, Valheim and Palworld.

The company lists regions rather than marketing them: Minecraft Standard runs on an AMD EPYC 7443 in the Netherlands, Germany and Poland, and Premium on a Ryzen 9 9950X. Support is open 12 hours a day by live chat, tickets, email and Discord, with email replies listed at two to three business days. A postal address is not given.

Where Space-Node falls short

  • Founded 2023, short history
  • Support covers 12 hours a day
  • No postal address on the pages we read
  • Standard line runs on DDR4

Standout feature. Space-Node is the only host here that names the processor model for each region, so a plan can be compared on hardware and not only on RAM.

#3 DatHost

Not stated on the pages read, Sweden Starting prices on the homepage: Minecraft, Valheim, Palworld and others from €6.90 a month; Counter-Strike 2 from €0.79 per slot a month; CS:GO from €0.60 per slot a month. Demo on request

DatHost is the game server brand of DatHost AB, a Swedish company whose terms of service describe the contract and refer disputes to Swedish law. The privacy policy explains that IP addresses are used to charge the right VAT rate.

It rents servers for more than 20 games, with an API, documentation and platform integrations, in 36 locations that include Frankfurt, Paris, London, Stockholm, Warsaw and Amsterdam. Counter-Strike 2 is priced per slot from €0.79 a month, while most other games start at €6.90. The pages we read give no street address or register number.

Best for: Friends who want a casual Minecraft server and accept ads and a free-tier model

Advertising carries the cost, and the privacy policy names the ad provider along with analytics, Cloudflare and Zendesk services, some run by US companies. The terms exclude liability for lost data and ask users to back up with the provided tools. Hosting location is not stated, and a server cannot be upgraded to a paid size.

What Aternos does well

  • Ad provider disclosed in the privacy policy

#5 exaroton

Bonn, Germany Prepaid credits with no subscription or contract. On the pricing page, 2 GB RAM online for 4 hours uses 8 credits, so 1 GB for 1 hour costs 1 credit. The price per credit was not read. Demo on request

Best for: Players whose server runs a few hours a week and who dislike monthly fees

  • Operating company. Aternos GmbH
  • Jurisdiction. EU (Germany)
  • Where the data sits. Regions listed as Europe and North America; city not stated on the pages we read
  • Source code. Closed source
  • Replaces. Apex Hosting

exaroton is the paid, on-demand Minecraft host run by the same Bonn company as Aternos, Aternos GmbH. Servers are paid with prepaid credits and there is no subscription or contract, so a server that stays offline for a week costs nothing for that week.

Every server comes with a live console, shared access, automatic backups, custom domains, DDoS protection and log analysis, and software choices include Vanilla, Paper, Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Bedrock. RAM runs from 2 GB to 16 GB. The price of one credit was not on the pages we read, and the vendor itself notes that fixed plans can win for always-on servers.

What exaroton does well

  • All features included on every server
  • Same German GmbH as Aternos

  • Replaces. Apex Hosting

WiseHosting is a Minecraft-only host whose footer names WiseHosting OÜ and whose privacy policy gives an address in Tartu, Estonia. The same policy calls the company a Ltd, and no register number appears on the pages we read, so the entity needs a check in the Estonian register.

Custom plans run from 2 GB to 48 GB at about €2.66 per GB, starting at €5.32 a month. Presets include Creeper with 4 GB, 25 GB storage and one backup at €10.64, and Pigman with 6 GB and two backups at €15.97. Vanilla, modded and Bedrock servers are supported, and the data location is not stated.

  • Entity name inconsistent (OÜ versus Ltd)

  • Replaces. Apex Hosting

MintServers is run by Advancade MB, a Lithuanian company with company number 306660030 and a VAT number on the site, under Lithuanian law. It was founded in 2024, so the track record is the shortest in this category.

The plan model is different: each server is guaranteed 32 GB RAM, player slots are unlimited, and the same server swaps between 60 games at no extra cost. Tiers cost €9.99, €14.99, €19.99 and €29.99 a month, with cloud backups from the second. Datacenter operators are not named, and the money-back window is 24 hours.

Where ServerMiner falls short

  • Privacy policy dated 2019

Standout feature. ServerMiner has traded since 2012, the longest record of any host in this category, and bills with no contract.

How do you choose a European game server host?

Start with the game, because it narrows the list faster than price does. Aternos, exaroton, WiseHosting, Minefort and ServerMiner sell Minecraft only, while ZAP-Hosting, DatHost, MintServers, Server.pro, ScalaCube and Space-Node also rent servers for Rust, Valheim and other titles.

Then check the contracting company. ZAP-Hosting, Aternos, Minefort, MintServers, Server.pro and ScalaCube publish a register or organisation number on the pages we read. DatHost names its Swedish AB in the terms but shows no number, and WiseHosting's footer and privacy policy disagree on whether the company is an OÜ or a Ltd.

Last, look at the hardware and the location. Space-Node names a processor for every region, and MintServers lists five European datacenters by city. Aternos, WiseHosting, Minefort, Server.pro, ScalaCube and ServerMiner do not state a hosting location on the pages we read, and exaroton names only the regions Europe and North America, so ask before you move a busy world.

What does game server hosting cost in Europe?

Prices run from nothing to about €30 a month, and the unit differs by host. Aternos is free. Minefort charges $5.99 for 2 GB, $11.49 for 4 GB, $23.99 for 8 GB and $47.99 for 12 GB, and Server.pro lists 4 GB at $7 on its Hosting tier and 8 GB at $15 on Gaming.

In euro, Space-Node asks €2.70 a month for 3 GB on the Standard line and €5.25 on Premium. WiseHosting quotes about €2.66 per GB, €10.64 for the 4 GB Creeper and €15.97 for 6 GB. DatHost starts most games at €6.90, and MintServers runs from €9.99 to €29.99 with unlimited slots.

Two hosts bill by another unit. DatHost charges Counter-Strike 2 from €0.79 per slot a month. exaroton sells credits, with 2 GB for four hours costing 8, and says itself that a server running all day may be cheaper on a fixed plan. ScalaCube shows only a from-price of $2 and ZAP-Hosting from $2.99, so check the order screen.

Does a European game server host keep your data in Europe?

Not always, and the company address does not settle it. Space-Node lists Hengelo, Frankfurt and Warsaw in Europe next to sites in Canada, California, Virginia, Singapore, India and Sydney. DatHost lists 36 locations on several continents, and MintServers lists 14 datacenters, five of them in Europe.

ZAP-Hosting says it operates its own hardware at PsychZ sites in Dallas and Los Angeles and in Beauharnois, Canada, so a buyer who wants European placement has to pick it at checkout. Minefort's privacy policy names OVHcloud as a provider and also lists US analytics and advertising services.

The practical rule is to choose the location explicitly where the host offers it, and to treat the contract and the data location as two separate questions. A Dutch B.V. or a German GmbH gives you a European counterparty. Only the location setting tells you where the world files sit.

How do you move a Minecraft server from Apex Hosting, Shockbyte or BisectHosting?

The move is a file copy. Stop the server on the US host, download the world, plugin and configuration folders through FTP or the file manager, and upload them to a new server of the same Minecraft version. Paper, Fabric and Forge do not read each other's mod folders, so keep the same server software.

Run both servers side by side for a weekend. Let your players test the new address, and cancel the US plan only after the first full session. Apex Hosting counts its 7-day refund window from server creation, so note the renewal date before you start.

If the old host has a database for a plugin, export it too. MintServers, ScalaCube, Space-Node and WiseHosting list modpack or plugin support, and WiseHosting names modpacks such as ATM10 and RLCraft in its menu.

When is a US game server host still the better choice?

When your players are mostly in North America, a US datacenter gives them lower ping, and the European contract does not change that. DatHost and Space-Node both list North American locations, which helps, but a Virginia or Texas host may still sit closer to the people who play.

A big modded server may also need specific hardware. Apex Hosting sells four dedicated vCores on its EX Series, and none of the European hosts here advertises the same arrangement on the pages we read. Support hours matter too: Space-Node answers 08:00 to 20:00 UTC, and Server.pro states no hours.

For a small, casual world the argument reverses. A free server from Aternos or Minefort, or hourly credits from exaroton, costs less than any US monthly plan and still gives you a German or Dutch counterparty.

What should you check in the terms and refund policy?

Look for the governing law, the refund window and the backup duty. DatHost's terms point to Swedish law, MintServers' terms to Lithuanian law. MintServers states a 24-hour money-back guarantee, and Server.pro shows no refund terms on the pages we read.

Aternos's terms exclude liability for lost data and tell users to make their own backups with the provided tools. That is honest for a free service, but it means you should download the world regularly. WiseHosting's presets include one or two backups, and ScalaCube promises automated backups.

Date the documents as well. ScalaCube's terms are from 2019, ServerMiner's privacy policy is from 2 July 2019, and MintServers was founded in 2024. An old policy is not a fault by itself, but it tells you how recently someone has reviewed it.

How we selected and ranked these 11 tools

Every tool on this page is in the European Purpose directory, which means the operating company is established in Europe and we have verified that from the company register or the vendor's own legal notice rather than from a marketing page. Tools headquartered outside Europe are not eligible, however good they are.

  1. Feature verification (weight: 40%). We check each capability against the vendor's own documentation and product pages, and record what the tool does rather than what the category is assumed to include.
  2. Ease of adoption (weight: 30%). Integrations, published API access, trial availability and how much configuration stands between signing and a usable result.
  3. Value and transparency (weight: 30%). Published pricing counts in a vendor's favour; quote-only pricing is recorded as quote-only rather than estimated. We weigh what a buyer gets for the entry price, not the headline feature count.
  4. Editorial review. Every page is researched and drafted with AI assistance, and the compliance and pricing claims are checked against the vendor's documentation before it is published under the founder's editorial responsibility. The three weights above decide the order; a position is a ranking against the other European tools in this category, not an absolute score.

Vendor-reported outcomes — ROI figures, margin uplift, time saved — are labelled as vendor claims wherever they appear on this page. We have not audited them, and neither has anyone else who quotes them. Read our full editorial process for how pages are re-verified.

Frequently asked questions

There is no single winner, because the answer depends on the game and the budget. ZAP-Hosting suits players who want several games and voice servers from one German company, Space-Node suits cheap Minecraft with stated hardware, and DatHost suits Counter-Strike with an API. Aternos is free, and exaroton bills by the hour.

Yes. Aternos GmbH in Bonn offers a free server and no paid tier, paid for by advertising. Minefort.com B.V. in Amsterdam has a free plan with 1 GB RAM and 10 players, and exaroton has a free trial without a payment method. Server.pro gives a time-limited demo without a credit card.

ZAP-Hosting, DatHost, MintServers, Server.pro, ScalaCube and Space-Node all rent servers for other games. DatHost lists more than 20 games, MintServers lets a plan swap between 60, and Server.pro lists more than 93 games and services. Aternos, exaroton, WiseHosting, Minefort and ServerMiner are Minecraft-focused.

Geographically yes, legally it is outside the EU. ServerMiner is run by Serverminer Limited in Tunbridge Wells and is covered by the UK adequacy decision, which allows personal data to flow from the EU. The other ten hosts here are established in Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden, Estonia or Lithuania.

Several hosts quote euro. Space-Node, WiseHosting, DatHost and MintServers show euro prices, and ScalaCube lets you switch between USD, EUR, GBP, CAD and AUD. ZAP-Hosting, Minefort and Server.pro show dollar prices on the pages we read, so conversion costs may apply.

The slot count is unlimited at MintServers and ScalaCube according to their own pages, but the real limit is the RAM and processor behind the server. MintServers states 32 GB RAM per server, and ScalaCube does not list plan sizes on the pages we read. Test with your full player count before relying on it.
