European Alternatives to STAAD.Pro

Looking for a European alternative to STAAD.Pro? STAAD.Pro is made by Bentley Systems, whose web terms are governed by the law of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, USA, and which says it operates its web properties from headquarters in various locations in the United States. The STAAD.Pro page lists STAAD.Pro from €3,238 and STAAD.Pro Advanced from €4,352 for a 12-month Virtuoso subscription.

The European structural engineering tools below come from Germany, Belgium, Sweden, the Czech Republic, Hungary and the United Kingdom. They cover frame and finite element analysis, Eurocode design, connection checks and BIM links, and several publish prices in euros.

How we rank these tools — 4-step process
  1. 1
    European ownership, verified

The company is headquartered and incorporated in the EU, EEA, the UK, Switzerland or Israel, and processes customer data in Europe or Israel. A US parent company disqualifies a tool from this page regardless of where its servers are.

  2. 2
    Category fit and hands-on review

What the tool actually does, who it suits, and where it falls short — checked against the vendor’s own documentation, changelog and pricing page rather than its marketing copy.

  3. 3
    Compliance and pricing check

GDPR posture, hosting location and the prices quoted on this page are verified against the vendor’s public pricing before publication, and re-checked when we revisit the category.

  4. 4
    Position on this page

Placement on this page can be paid, and that can affect which tools appear here and the order they appear in. It never buys a good review: a tool that fails the checks above is not here at any price, and payment does not change the shortcomings we write about. A vendor can ask us to correct a factual error — not to remove a criticism.

Vendors can pay for visibility on this page. It never changes what an entry says about a product, including the criticism, and we earn nothing when you click through to a vendor. Vendors can pay for more visibility, higher up on the review pages; it never affects which tools are listed. Editorial policy

Key takeaways

  • STAAD.Pro is priced on its Bentley page at €3,238, or €4,352 for STAAD.Pro Advanced, as a 12-month Virtuoso subscription.
  • Bentley's web terms are governed by Pennsylvania law with Chester County courts, and the software licence agreement was not read for this page.
  • BuildSoft Diamonds publishes euro prices from €144 a month excluding VAT, and IDEA StatiCa publishes annual plans from €1,750.
  • Dlubal (Germany), SCIA Engineer (Belgium) and FEM-Design (Sweden) each model whole structures and each name a European contracting entity.
  • IDEA StatiCa and Frilo check connections and components and do not replace a whole-structure model.

Why people leave STAAD.Pro

STAAD.Pro is the structural analysis program of Bentley Systems, and Bentley's own product list shows it as "3D structural analysis" next to MicroStation, PLAXIS 2D, OpenRoads Designer and AutoPIPE. The STAAD.Pro page we read on 5 November 2026 prices STAAD.Pro at €3,238 and STAAD.Pro Advanced at €4,352, each for a 12-month Virtuoso subscription. That is a normal professional price for this kind of software.

The contract question is less clear than it first looks. Bentley's web terms are governed by the law of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, with exclusive jurisdiction in the courts of Chester County, and Bentley says it runs its web properties from headquarters in the United States.

Those are the terms for the website. The licence agreement that comes with the software is a separate document, and we did not read it, so this page makes no claim about what it says.

Most offices that look beyond STAAD.Pro do so for plainer reasons. They design to Eurocode and national annexes and want a vendor that works in that world every day, or they want a contract under European law, or they want the price shown per month rather than per year. Others only want a second tool beside it, for connections or for single beams.

  • The web terms point to Pennsylvania courts Bentley's terms of use for its web properties choose Pennsylvania law and the courts of Chester County and the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. An engineering office in Germany, Belgium or Sweden that wants disputes handled at home can instead sign with SCIA nv in Hasselt, StruSoft AB in Malmö or SOFiSTiK AG in Nuremberg, whose terms or imprint name Belgian, Swedish and German entities. Check the actual licence agreement before you compare, because that document was not available to us.
  • One annual price against several ways of paying STAAD.Pro is offered as a 12-month subscription at €3,238, or €4,352 for the Advanced edition. European vendors that publish prices do it in other shapes. BuildSoft Diamonds starts at €144 a month excluding VAT, Frilo from €244 a month, and IDEA StatiCa lists €1,750 to €4,990 a year or a perpetual licence. Most of the others show nothing and ask for a quote, so the saving is real only for some of them.
  • Eurocode is the home ground of the European tools FEM-Design builds all its calculations on Eurocode, AxisVM calls its version 27 the first implementation of the second-generation Eurocodes, and SCIA Engineer lists 20 national standards. For an office whose projects are all checked against Eurocode and a national annex, a tool that treats those as the default saves configuration work. STAAD.Pro lists a wider range of international codes, so the advantage ends where your projects leave Europe.
  • Language and local support SCIA says its software is localised in 13 languages and AxisVM in 16, and both describe local support through offices or resellers. mb WorkSuite and InfoCAD go the other way and publish in German first. If your engineers and your authority checkers work in a language other than English, a vendor from the same region can mean documentation, training and a support call in that language.

What you have to replace, not just match

What you replace is more than a solver. A STAAD.Pro project holds the 3D model, the load cases and combinations, the code checks and the calculation reports that end up in a permit file. Each European program has its own model format, so the model usually has to be rebuilt or passed through a neutral format. FEM-Design lists IFC, SAF, Revit, Archicad, Tekla and Allplan interfaces, SOFiSTiK works inside Revit, and SCIA's own customers describe model exchange with Tekla Structures.

If your workflow also runs through other Bentley products, such as MicroStation for drawings or PLAXIS for ground models, then the links between them are part of what you give up. We did not verify which file exchanges each European vendor supports for those products. Ask each vendor for the specific interface and test it on a finished project, not a demo model.

Not every name on this page replaces the whole program. IDEA StatiCa checks steel connections and concrete members and Frilo calculates single components, so both sit beside a frame analysis program rather than instead of it. The rest, from Dlubal to Oasys GSA, model a whole structure.

How each alternative compares to STAAD.Pro

#1

Dlubal

the nearest family of programs to a full STAAD.Pro setup, with a long trial

Tiefenbach, GermanySold through the Dlubal webshop; 90-day free full trial; prices not captured#5 in Engineering Simulation (CAE/FEA)

Best for: Offices that want finite element, frame and wind load tools from one German family-owned vendor

Dlubal Software GmbH is registered in Regensburg and was founded in 1987 by Georg Dlubal. RFEM 6 models plates, walls, shells, beams and solids, RSTAB 9 handles frames and trusses, and RWIND 3 simulates wind flow around a building. Against STAAD.Pro, that spread covers the same ground from a vendor that describes itself as family-owned.

Dlubal says it has more than 350 employees at 11 locations and over 130,000 users. A gRPC API reaches the programs from Python and C#. Prices were not visible to us, so a budget comparison with the €3,238 STAAD.Pro entry price needs a quote. A US subsidiary, Dlubal Software, Inc., exists, so check which entity signs the contract.

What Dlubal does better than STAAD.Pro

  • Gives 90 days of full-version trial, against the annual subscription STAAD.Pro sells
  • Includes a wind simulation program in the same family
  • Opens its programs to scripting through a Python and C# API
  • Contracts through a German company registered in Regensburg

Where Dlubal is a step down from STAAD.Pro

  • Shows no prices on the pages we could read
  • Covers civil and structural work only
  • A US subsidiary means the contracting entity needs checking

Standout against STAAD.Pro. Dlubal is the only tool here with a wind simulation program in the same product family as the structural solver.

#2

SCIA Engineer

the multi-material program with the widest list of national design standards

Hasselt, BelgiumWebshop with editions and subscription options, prices not shown on the pages we read#2 in Structural Engineering Software

Best for: Offices that work to several European national standards and want local support

SCIA nv has its address at Corda 2 in Hasselt, Belgium, and its terms of use name Belgian law and the court of Hasselt. The company says it has made structural engineering software since 1974, that SCIA Engineer supports 20 national standards and that it is localised in 13 languages. For a project in Belgium, the Netherlands or Germany, that coverage is the main contrast with STAAD.Pro.

A customer quote on the SCIA site describes moving a model to Tekla Structures and back, and SCIA lists BIM solutions for federated models. The webshop is run through Digital River GmbH as reseller, and the privacy policy names US tracking tools. No prices appeared on the pages we read, so STAAD.Pro's public €3,238 is the only number on the table.

What SCIA Engineer does better than STAAD.Pro

  • Names 20 national standards, where STAAD.Pro's strength is international codes
  • Contracts under Belgian law with a court in Hasselt
  • Offers local support through offices and resellers
  • Advertises a 30-day free trial

Where SCIA Engineer is a step down from STAAD.Pro

  • No price visible on the pages we read
  • Sells through a reseller, Digital River GmbH
  • Data location is not stated

Standout against STAAD.Pro. SCIA Engineer lists more national design standards than any other European tool on this page.

#3

FEM-Design

the Eurocode-first finite element tool with BIM interfaces and bundled support

Malmö, SwedenNot shown on the pages we read; free trial and student licence offered#3 in Structural Engineering Software

Best for: Eurocode design offices with Revit, Tekla or Archicad in the same projects

StruSoft AB is registered in Malmö, and its terms apply Swedish law with the courts of Malmö. FEM-Design designs concrete, steel, timber, composite, masonry and foundation structures in one model. It covers static, stability, plastic and dynamic analysis, including seismic, footfall and time history, and has a separate module for road, railway and pedestrian bridges.

The interface list is long: IFC, SAF, Revit, Archicad, Tekla, Allplan and IDEA StatiCa, plus Grasshopper, Dynamo and C# access. StruSoft states that support is included in the software cost. All calculations follow Eurocode with some national annexes, so engineers who work mostly to US or Asian codes will find STAAD.Pro closer. No price was visible on the pages we read.

What FEM-Design does better than STAAD.Pro

  • Builds its calculations on Eurocode instead of treating it as one code among many
  • Lists IFC, SAF and Revit exchange, and a direct link to IDEA StatiCa
  • States that support is included in the software cost
  • Contracts under Swedish law in Malmö

Where FEM-Design is a step down from STAAD.Pro

  • National annexes are limited
  • STAAD.Pro supports more international codes
  • Prices and data location are not shown

Standout against STAAD.Pro. FEM-Design combines a bridge module, many exchange formats and bundled support in one Eurocode-based program.

IDEA StatiCa

a connection and member checker to run beside STAAD.Pro or any frame program

Brno, Czech RepublicAnnual subscription €1,750 to €4,990; perpetual licence €3,490 to €9,990; monthly and quarterly options; regional discounts may apply (as stated on its pricing page)#4 in Structural Engineering Software

Best for: Steel detailers and fabricators who must prove that bolted and welded joints hold

IDEA StatiCa s.r.o. is entered in the Commercial Register of the Regional Court in Brno, according to the terms of its Viewer, and a German subsidiary in Dortmund publishes an imprint. Its applications cover steel connections, concrete members and details, beams and reinforced sections. It checks parts of a structure that a frame program exports, so it does not replace STAAD.Pro.

Its pricing page is the most open on this list: €1,750 to €4,990 for an annual subscription, €3,490 to €9,990 for a perpetual licence, plus monthly and quarterly terms. A free Viewer lets a detailer open a connection file without a licence. The ranges do not say which application sits at which price.

What IDEA StatiCa does better than STAAD.Pro

  • Checks individual steel joints, a job a frame model alone does not finish
  • Publishes annual and perpetual prices in euros
  • Gives detailers a free cloud Viewer for connection files
  • Offers a free 12-month educational licence

Where IDEA StatiCa is a step down from STAAD.Pro

  • Does not analyse a whole building frame
  • Price ranges are not split per application

Standout against STAAD.Pro. IDEA StatiCa is the only tool here built around steel connection checks, with a free viewer for the people who receive the results.

BuildSoft Diamonds

the finite element program with monthly euro prices instead of a yearly subscription

Merelbeke, BelgiumWebshop, VAT excluded: Diamonds 2D Starter from €144 a month, 3D Plus from €463 a month, 3D Full from €685 a month; monthly or yearly#5 in Structural Engineering Software

Best for: Small and mid-size offices that want to pay by the month and test for 30 days

BuildSoft gives its Belgian company number as BE 0439 002 796, with its registered office in Merelbeke, and the site's navigation places it in the StruSoft Group. The webshop lists Diamonds 2D Starter from €144 a month, 3D Plus from €463 and 3D Full from €685, excluding VAT, billed monthly or yearly.

At those rates the 2D Starter plan comes to €1,728 a year, below the €3,238 that STAAD.Pro asks for twelve months, while 3D Full comes to €8,220. Diamonds checks steel, concrete and timber to Eurocode and states AISC and ACI support. The pages list fewer analysis types than STAAD.Pro does, and the privacy policy names Freshdesk and Google Analytics.

What BuildSoft Diamonds does better than STAAD.Pro

  • Publishes monthly prices, so a project-length subscription is possible
  • Offers a 30-day full trial with no credit card
  • Names AISC and ACI support next to Eurocode
  • Covers steel, concrete and timber in one program

Where BuildSoft Diamonds is a step down from STAAD.Pro

  • The 3D Full plan costs more per year than STAAD.Pro's entry price
  • Fewer analysis types are listed than for STAAD.Pro

#6

SOFiSTiK

the bridge and large-building suite, for offices working inside BIM models

Nuremberg, GermanyNot shown on the pages we read; free trial offered#6 in Structural Engineering Software

Best for: Engineering offices on bridges and infrastructure who analyse inside Revit or Rhino

SOFiSTiK AG is a stock corporation with its imprint in Nuremberg and a register entry at Amtsgericht Nuremberg. It says more than 5,000 customers use its software and names the Bosporus Bridge in Istanbul and the Leverkusen Bridge as references. Where STAAD.Pro is sold as a general-purpose analysis program, SOFiSTiK leans on bridge and infrastructure design.

The FEM packages come in three levels, 3D FEM professional, premium and ultimate, and the 2027 highlights describe analysis and design directly in Revit. A Rhino interface and SOFiCAD for drafting are listed too. No prices were shown, and a SOFiSTiK North America page exists, so outside Europe check which entity issues the invoice.

What SOFiSTiK does better than STAAD.Pro

  • Does analysis and reinforcement design inside Revit
  • Has bridge design as a separate product area
  • Gives a free trial and an educational version
  • Contracts through a German AG with a register number

Where SOFiSTiK is a step down from STAAD.Pro

  • Shows no price and does not explain package limits
  • The range may be more than a small office needs
  • A North American region exists, so the invoicing entity needs checking

Standout against STAAD.Pro. SOFiSTiK is the only program here whose own highlights describe analysis, design status and reinforcement inside the Revit model.

AxisVM

the Hungarian finite element program with seismic analysis and a short learning curve

Budapest, HungaryNot shown on the pages we read; trial and education versions free after registration#7 in Structural Engineering Software

Best for: Offices in Central and Southern Europe working to Eurocode, NTC or SIA seismic rules

Inter-CAD Kft. is the service provider in the AxisVM imprint, with its office in Budapest, a company registration number and a Budapest court of registration. It says it has served civil engineers since 1991, with more than 8,000 users in 45 countries and 16 languages. The website is hosted by Tárhely.eu in Budapest, though the pages do not say where software data lives.

AxisVM offers modal response spectrum, pushover and time-history analysis for seismic design to Eurocode, NTC or SIA. Reports update from the model. Design for reinforced concrete, steel, timber and masonry is sold as optional modules, so the total depends on the selection. No price was shown, and the standards named are all European.

What AxisVM does better than STAAD.Pro

  • Names seismic design under Eurocode, NTC and SIA
  • Reports refresh automatically from the model
  • Free trial and education versions after registration
  • Hosts its website in Budapest and names the provider

Where AxisVM is a step down from STAAD.Pro

  • Design modules are optional and add to the cost
  • No US design standards are named
  • Shows no price

Standout against STAAD.Pro. AxisVM is the only tool here that names the SIA standard alongside Eurocode and NTC for seismic design.

Frilo

component calculations by the month, a complement to a whole-structure model

Munich, GermanyProfessional (26 solutions) and Ultimate (58 solutions) from €244 a month; Geotechnics Professional from €215 a month and Geotechnics Ultimate from €244 a month#8 in Structural Engineering Software

Best for: Engineers who check single beams, columns, slabs and foundations rather than a full 3D model

The Frilo imprint names ALLPLAN GmbH in Munich, registered at Amtsgericht Munich, and the home page speaks of more than 40 years of software for structural engineers. Frilo checks one element per module: roof, load transfer, continuous beam, plate, column, framework, foundation and soil mechanics. STAAD.Pro works the other way round and models the whole structure first.

Professional includes 26 solutions and Ultimate 58, both from €244 a month, with Geotechnics editions from €215. The shop page was blocked when we tried it, and the home page does not say whether prices include VAT. A large 3D frame under dynamic load is outside what the pages describe.

What Frilo does better than STAAD.Pro

  • Lists euro prices per month openly
  • Suits quick hand-calculation style checks of single elements
  • Has separate geotechnics editions for foundations and soil
  • Contracts through a German GmbH with a register number

Where Frilo is a step down from STAAD.Pro

  • Does not model a whole structure in 3D
  • VAT status of the prices is unclear

Standout against STAAD.Pro. Frilo is the only tool here sold as a catalogue of single-element solutions, with 26 or 58 of them depending on the edition.

LUSAS

the nonlinear and bridge analysis specialist from the United Kingdom

Kingston upon Thames, United KingdomQuotation on request via the pricing and information request form#9 in Structural Engineering Software

Best for: Bridge and infrastructure engineers who need nonlinear, thermal or geotechnical analysis options

LUSAS is the trading name of Finite Element Analysis Ltd, with its head office in Kingston upon Thames and a VAT number on the page. The company says it has served infrastructure projects for more than 40 years. The range has separate products for bridges, civil and structural work, tanks, composites and academic use, with solver options for nonlinear, dynamic, thermal and geotechnical analysis.

Support comes from the distributor for your country and is free with a current maintenance agreement. Prices are given only after a request through the pricing form. The United Kingdom is outside the EEA but covered by an adequacy decision, which is why the page counts it as European. Against STAAD.Pro, LUSAS fits specialist analysis better than routine building frames.

What LUSAS does better than STAAD.Pro

  • Offers dedicated bridge and tank editions
  • Includes nonlinear, thermal and geotechnical solver options
  • Lists rail track and bridge design options
  • Contracts under UK law, with a UK VAT number published

Where LUSAS is a step down from STAAD.Pro

  • No published prices
  • Support depends on a distributor in many countries
  • UK entity sits outside the EEA

Standout against STAAD.Pro. LUSAS is the only tool here with separate editions for bridges, tanks and composites rather than one general package.

MasterSeries

the modular building design suite for British Standards and Eurocodes

Carrickfergus, United KingdomNot shown on the pages we read; PowerPad stated at less than a third of the full version price#10 in Structural Engineering Software

Best for: UK and Irish offices that want to buy modules step by step and start with a lite suite

Civil & Structural Computer Services [C&SCS] Ltd issues the MasterSeries privacy policy, with a postal address in Carrickfergus in Northern Ireland, and says the data sits on servers it owns and operates. It claims more than 30 years of customers. The range is modular: a Building Design Suite for medium and large buildings, MasterFrame for analysis, and design modules for steel, concrete, composite and timber.

PowerPad is the lite suite for small building projects, which the company says costs less than a third of the full version, without figures. A 14-day trial and an online demo are offered. Design bases named are British Standards and Eurocodes, so US code work stays with STAAD.Pro. The number of products can make selection confusing.

What MasterSeries does better than STAAD.Pro

  • States that data sits on servers C&SCS owns and runs
  • Allows a start with the cheaper PowerPad suite
  • Gives a 14-day trial and an online demo
  • Covers British Standard design as well as Eurocode

Where MasterSeries is a step down from STAAD.Pro

  • No prices on the pages we read
  • Many modules make the choice harder
  • No US design codes are named

Standout against STAAD.Pro. MasterSeries is the only tool here that says its data stays on servers owned and operated by the vendor itself.

What InfoCAD does better than STAAD.Pro

  • Names prestressing and dynamics as core functions
  • Covers silos, tanks and power plants as work areas
  • Contracts under German law with a place of jurisdiction in Aachen
  • Offers a 30-day test licence

Where InfoCAD is a step down from STAAD.Pro

  • German first, with English pages incomplete
  • AI assistant uses a US-named processor
  • No prices shown

Standout against STAAD.Pro. InfoCAD is the only tool here that lists silos, containers and power plants as named work areas.

Oasys GSA

the parametric and BIM analysis program from the Arup software division

London, United KingdomNot shown on the pages we read#12 in Structural Engineering Software

Best for: Engineers who script geometry in Grasshopper or Rhino and want visible, auditable checks

Oasys describes itself as the software division of Arup, set up in 1976, with an address at 8 Fitzroy Street in London. GSA designs, models and verifies buildings, bridges and complex structures, and Oasys stresses that geometry, loads, solver inputs and code checks are visible and auditable. Links reach Revit, Grasshopper and LS-DYNA, and a Rhino plug-in needs a GSA licence.

Licences are standalone, network or international network. The pages do not name the legal entity that signs contracts, show no prices, and list offices in India and Canada besides the UK and Copenhagen, so the issuing entity depends on the region. Against STAAD.Pro, the draw is the parametric workflow, not a price.

What Oasys GSA does better than STAAD.Pro

  • Links to Grasshopper, Revit and LS-DYNA are listed
  • Makes model inputs and code checks traceable
  • Offers network and international network licences
  • Names offices in London, Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle and Copenhagen

Where Oasys GSA is a step down from STAAD.Pro

  • The legal entity is not named on the pages read
  • No prices are shown
  • Offices outside Europe mean the contract may be issued elsewhere

Standout against STAAD.Pro. Oasys GSA is the only tool here whose own product page puts traceable, auditable code checks ahead of everything else.

mb WorkSuite

a German calculation, finite element and CAD suite in one vendor package

Kaiserslautern, GermanyNot shown on the pages we read; the site mentions introductory offers#13 in Structural Engineering Software

Best for: German-speaking offices that want BauStatik calculations, MicroFe and ViCADo from one vendor

The imprint names mb AEC Software GmbH in Kaiserslautern, registered at Amtsgericht Kaiserslautern with two managing directors. BauStatik is a document-based calculation system with more than 200 modules for concrete, foundations, timber, steel, glass and masonry, MicroFe is the finite element system, and ViCADo is 3D CAD. The StrukturEditor holds the structural model.

A ProjektManager starts every application from one project and keeps addresses, calculations, PDFs and plans together. mb WorkSuite 2027 is announced, and an offers page mentions introductory prices without figures. The site is in German and the suite follows German practice, so offices elsewhere will find less local support information than STAAD.Pro's worldwide partner network.

What mb WorkSuite does better than STAAD.Pro

  • Combines calculation, finite elements and CAD in one vendor suite
  • Has more than 200 BauStatik modules for typical German checks
  • Keeps project documents together in the ProjektManager

Where mb WorkSuite is a step down from STAAD.Pro

  • The site is German only on the pages we read
  • Built around German practice
  • No prices shown

Standout against STAAD.Pro. mb WorkSuite is the only tool here that bundles a document-based calculation system, finite elements and CAD under one project manager.

What actually breaks when you switch

The first break is the model. A STAAD.Pro file does not carry into a European program as a click-through import in any case we could verify, so the first project is a rebuild, and each tool has its own conventions for load cases, member releases and code-check settings. Budget a few weeks of double running, solving the same structure in both programs, so you can match results before an old file is archived.

The second break is the paperwork. Calculation reports that clients and authorities know from STAAD.Pro will look different, and templates have to be rebuilt in the new tool. Annual subscriptions run to a fixed date, so finish the switch around a renewal. Read the contract for the exit terms: ask each European vendor where data is processed, since few state it, and ask Bentley for the licence agreement that governs the software.

Can I open my STAAD.Pro models in a European program?

We could not verify that any of these vendors reads STAAD.Pro files directly, so plan on a rebuild or a neutral format. The interfaces the vendors name are IFC and SAF for FEM-Design, Tekla Structures exchange for SCIA Engineer, and Revit and Rhino links for SOFiSTiK and Oasys GSA.

Pick one finished project and rebuild it as a trial. Dlubal offers a 90-day trial, SCIA Engineer, BuildSoft Diamonds and InfoCAD 30 days, IDEA StatiCa and MasterSeries 14 days. Compare member forces and utilisation ratios with the STAAD.Pro results before you commit.

Which of these programs analyse a whole structure, and which check parts?

Dlubal, SCIA Engineer, FEM-Design, BuildSoft Diamonds, SOFiSTiK, AxisVM, LUSAS, MasterSeries, InfoCAD and Oasys GSA are finite element or frame programs for complete models. mb WorkSuite combines MicroFe finite elements with the document-style BauStatik calculations.

IDEA StatiCa is a checker for steel joints and concrete members, and Frilo is organised as one module per element, such as a continuous beam, a column or a foundation. Treat both as additions to a frame program.

Which one to pick

For a general replacement that models a complete structure, start with Dlubal, SCIA Engineer and FEM-Design: Dlubal for the 90-day trial and the wind program, SCIA Engineer for national standards and Tekla exchange, FEM-Design for Eurocode work with IFC and Revit. BuildSoft Diamonds is the one to test if monthly pricing matters, and AxisVM if seismic design under Eurocode, NTC or SIA is the main job.

For specialist work, pick by the structure. SOFiSTiK, LUSAS and InfoCAD fit bridges and infrastructure, Oasys GSA fits parametric workflows, MasterSeries fits British Standards, and mb WorkSuite fits German practice. Add IDEA StatiCa for connections or Frilo for single components. Stay with STAAD.Pro when your projects are checked to US or Asian codes, or when your clients exchange files in the Bentley ecosystem.

Frequently Asked Questions

It depends on the criterion. For a broad structural program with a long trial, Dlubal gives 90 days and SCIA Engineer covers 20 national standards. For Eurocode work with BIM links, FEM-Design and SOFiSTiK fit. For published monthly prices, BuildSoft Diamonds and Frilo. For bridges, LUSAS and InfoCAD. All carry compromises that are listed per tool below.

STAAD.Pro is made by Bentley Systems, and its web properties are run from headquarters in the United States. Bentley's web terms apply the law of Pennsylvania and the courts of Chester County. The licence agreement for the software is a separate document that we did not read, so check it for governing law and data terms before you rely on either.

On 5 November 2026 Bentley's STAAD.Pro page showed €3,238 for STAAD.Pro and €4,352 for STAAD.Pro Advanced, each as a 12-month subscription. BuildSoft Diamonds starts at €144 a month, 3D Plus at €463 and 3D Full at €685, excluding VAT. Most other vendors on this page publish no price.

Mostly not. FEM-Design is built around Eurocode, AxisVM names Eurocode, NTC and SIA standards, and MasterSeries names British Standards and Eurocodes. BuildSoft states AISC and ACI support in Diamonds. For a project that must be checked to a US or Asian code, STAAD.Pro lists wider international coverage than most tools here.

Yes, most offer one. Dlubal runs a 90-day full trial, and SCIA Engineer, BuildSoft Diamonds and InfoCAD run 30 days. IDEA StatiCa and MasterSeries run 14 days. FEM-Design, SOFiSTiK, AxisVM, Frilo and mb WorkSuite state a trial or demo, and several add student or educational licences.
