European Podcast Hosting Tools

A podcast host stores your audio, publishes the RSS feed that every listening app reads, and records who listens, so it holds both your catalogue and your audience data. These European hosts operate from the EU or the UK, and several store data inside the EEA, which keeps the listener statistics and subscriber lists of a company or public broadcaster out of US jurisdiction.

How we rank these tools — 4-step process
  1. 1
    European ownership, verified

The company is headquartered and incorporated in the EU, EEA or Switzerland, and processes customer data in Europe. A US parent company disqualifies a tool from this page regardless of where its servers are.

  2. 2
    Category fit and hands-on review

What the tool actually does, who it suits, and where it falls short — checked against the vendor’s own documentation, changelog and pricing page rather than its marketing copy.

  3. 3
    Compliance and pricing check

GDPR posture, hosting location and the prices quoted on this page are verified against the vendor’s public pricing before publication, and re-checked when we revisit the category.

  4. 4
    Position on this page

Placement on this page can be paid, and that can affect the order tools appear in. It never buys a listing: a tool that fails the checks above is not here at any price, and payment does not change the shortcomings we write about. A vendor can ask us to correct a factual error — not to remove a criticism.

Vendors can pay for visibility on this page. It never changes what an entry says about a product, including the criticism, and we earn nothing when you click through to a vendor. Paid placement can affect the order in which tools appear; it never affects whether a tool is listed. Editorial policy

Frequently Asked Questions

For a similar all-round host, Podigee from Berlin and Ausha from Lille are the closest matches: both offer unlimited audio storage on paid plans, distribution to the main directories and analytics.

Podigee also has a free plan, and Podhome and Captivate are the other two to compare if you want one flat plan or IAB-certified statistics. Unlike Buzzsprout, they do not meter new uploads in hours per month (podCloud and Castopod limit storage in GB instead, and Podcast.co applies a fair usage policy).

Springcast states that all processing happens inside the EEA, with applications in the Netherlands, Germany and Finland. podCloud says its servers are in France (hosted by OVH), and Castopod's managed service runs on Scaleway servers in France. Audiomeans states in its privacy policy that it keeps personal data in the EU. Podigee names Hetzner in Germany as an infrastructure provider.

podCloud charges EUR 6 per month with unlimited shows and episodes and 100 GB of storage, and Springcast Essential is EUR 9 per month excluding VAT. Podigee has a free LAUNCH plan limited to 60 minutes of audio, and Castopod is free to self-host. Podhome charges a single EUR 15.99 per month plan with no download limits.

Acast, headquartered in Stockholm, is built around ad and sponsorship monetisation and runs its own ad marketplace. Podigee (from its SCALE plan), Captivate, Audiomeans and Ausha (from its Boost plan) all offer dynamic ad insertion. Springcast has a Dynamic content module on its Professional and Scale plans.

The Complete Guide to European Podcast Hosting Tools

Check where the contract and the data sit

Two questions separate the hosts in this list. The first is the contracting entity: Podigee, Springcast, Ausha, Audiomeans, podCloud and Castopod are EU companies, Captivate and Podcast.co are UK companies, and Acast is a Swedish listed company.

The second is where files and listener data are stored. Springcast publishes a detailed answer (EEA only, with named countries), podCloud and Castopod name French hosting providers, while Captivate, Podhome, Podcast.co and LetsCast.fm do not state a storage location on the pages we reviewed. Ask for it before you sign if procurement requires it.

How the pricing models differ

Buzzsprout limits how many hours of new audio you can upload each month. European hosts charge differently. Captivate, Podcast.co, LetsCast.fm and Audiomeans price by monthly downloads or listens, Podigee prices by audience size, video minutes and number of shows, and Castopod prices by storage.

Podhome charges one flat fee and podCloud one flat fee with a 100 GB storage ceiling. If your audience is small but you publish a lot, a flat plan is cheaper. If you publish rarely to a large audience, compare the download caps first.
