European Alternatives to Canva
Looking for a European alternative to Canva? Canva is an Australian company: for customers billed outside the United States and the UK, the contracting party is Canva Pty Ltd in Surry Hills, Sydney, and its terms are governed by California law, with disputes sent to binding arbitration under American Arbitration Association rules and a class-action waiver. Australia is outside the EU and the EEA.
Eleven European tools cover different parts of the job: template-based design editors, interactive presentations, vector and brand design, product photos, mockups and charts, from companies in Germany, Spain, Cyprus, Ireland, France and Estonia.
How we rank these tools — 4-step process
-
1
European ownership, verified
The company is headquartered and incorporated in the EU, EEA or Switzerland, and processes customer data in Europe. A US parent company disqualifies a tool from this page regardless of where its servers are.
-
2
Category fit and hands-on review
What the tool actually does, who it suits, and where it falls short — checked against the vendor’s own documentation, changelog and pricing page rather than its marketing copy.
-
3
Compliance and pricing check
GDPR posture, hosting location and the prices quoted on this page are verified against the vendor’s public pricing before publication, and re-checked when we revisit the category.
-
4
Position on this page
Placement on this page can be paid, and that can affect which tools appear here and the order they appear in. It never buys a good review: a tool that fails the checks above is not here at any price, and payment does not change the shortcomings we write about. A vendor can ask us to correct a factual error — not to remove a criticism.
Vendors can pay for visibility on this page. It never changes what an entry says about a product, including the criticism, and we earn nothing when you click through to a vendor. Paid placement can affect which tools appear here and the order they appear in. Editorial policy

Key takeaways
- Canva Pty Ltd in Sydney is the contracting entity for customers billed outside the US and UK, under California law with AAA arbitration and a class-action waiver.
- Kittl (Berlin) is the closest German all-round design platform, with templates, mockups, AI tools and a free plan that is for personal use only.
- Genially (Spain) and Pitch (Berlin) are the two to look at if presentations are your main use of Canva, and both have free plans.
- VistaCreate is the closest in shape to Canva, but its Cypriot operator applies New York law and sits in the Cimpress group.
- Linearity, Design Wizard and Mediamodifier each publish a free tier, and Linearity lists euro prices from €8 a month on annual billing.
- Photoroom, Datawrapper, Penpot and Freepik (Magnific) cover narrower jobs: product photos, charts, team design work, and stock and AI assets.
Why people leave Canva
Canva is the design tool most non-designers start with. You pick a template for a social post, a poster, a presentation or a flyer, swap the text and pictures, and export or publish it. Its terms also cover print orders, websites and domain purchases made through the same account, so it works as one place for most small design jobs.
It is run from Sydney. For customers whose billing address is outside the United States and the UK, the contract is with Canva Pty Ltd in Surry Hills, Australia. Canva's terms are governed by the law of the State of California, and disputes go to binding arbitration under American Arbitration Association rules, with a waiver of class actions and jury trials. Australia is outside the EU and the EEA.
Canva does many things, and no single European product does all of them. This page lists eleven European tools by the part of the job they do best: template editors for social and print, presentations, vector and brand design, product photos, mockups, charts and stock assets. Pick by the job you actually do each week.
- Your contract is with an Australian company, under California law Canva's terms name Canva Pty Ltd in Surry Hills as the contracting entity for customers billed outside the US and the UK. They are governed by California law, send most claims to AAA arbitration, and place any court case in California. Rights that cannot be waived by law stay in force, but the starting point is a contract far from your own courts. The European tools here contract in Germany, Spain, Cyprus, Ireland, France or Estonia, with local courts in most cases.
- Not every European alternative is under European law Contracting entity and governing law are separate questions. VistaCreate is operated by Crello Limited in Cyprus, but its terms choose New York law and New York courts, and it is part of the Cimpress group. Photoroom applies French law and Paris courts to customers in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Read the governing-law clause, not only the company address.
- No European tool covers everything Canva covers Canva bundles design for social posts, presentations and print, plus websites and domains, in one account. Kittl, VistaCreate and Design Wizard come closest as template editors, Genially and Pitch focus on presentations, Linearity on vectors, Photoroom on product photos and Datawrapper on charts. Moving off Canva usually means using one main tool plus one or two specialists.
- The free plans differ in what they let you do commercially Kittl's Free plan is for personal use only, with a commercial licence on Pro and Expert. Pitch and Datawrapper offer free plans for their narrow jobs, and Genially, Linearity, Design Wizard, Mediamodifier and Penpot have free tiers with limits. Before you build a client project on a free plan, read the licence terms for that plan.
What you have to replace, not just match
List what you make in Canva each month: social posts, decks, flyers, brand assets, photos for a shop. Group the list by type. Social and print templates point to Kittl, VistaCreate or Design Wizard, decks to Pitch or Genially, product images to Photoroom, charts to Datawrapper. If one tool covers most of the list, start there and keep a second only for the leftover.
Export your brand colours, logos and fonts before you move, and check each new tool's font and upload limits on the plan you would use. Canva designs do not convert into another editor as live files, so plan to rebuild your most-used templates, and download finished work as PNG, PDF or SVG for your archive.
The alternatives compared
| Position | Tool | Headquarters | Pricing | Jurisdiction |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| #5 | Linearity | Vienna, Austria | Free tier / Pro from about €8/month / perpetual licence available | EU (Austria) |
| #7 | Photoroom | Paris, France | Free tier / Pro from about $7.50 per month billed yearly | EU (France) |
| #9 | Penpot | Madrid, Spain | Free and open source, unlimited users / paid cloud tiers | EU (Spain) |
| #11 | Freepik (Magnific) | Malaga, Spain | Free tier with attribution / Premium from about €12 per month billed annually (€16 monthly), excl. VAT | EU (Spain) |
How each alternative compares to Canva
Kittl
the closest German all-round design platform, aimed at branding and print
Best for: Small brands, shop owners and freelancers who make logos, posters, merchandise and product visuals
Kittl is run by Kittl Technologies GmbH, Saarbrücker Straße 37, Berlin. Its terms are governed by German law, subject to the mandatory consumer law of your place of residence, and the venue is Berlin for merchants and for users who live outside Germany. The United Nations sales convention is excluded.
Its site describes templates, mockups, fonts, graphics, brand kits, a logo maker, a team workspace and AI tools for images and vectors. The Free plan is for personal use only. Pro and Expert come with a commercial licence for up to 500,000 copies, and business plans have an enhanced licence.
Its pricing page shows US-dollar prices, so no amount is quoted here. The commercial-use limit and the credit allowance on each plan are the things to check before you pick a tier.
What Kittl does better than Canva
- German entity and law, where Canva's contract is with an Australian company under California law
- Strong in typography, branding, mockups and print-on-demand style visuals
- AI image and vector tools and a logo maker in the same editor
- States its commercial licence limits on its own pricing page
Where Kittl is a step down from Canva
- Free plan is personal use only, so commercial work needs a paid plan
- Much narrower than an all-in-one editor
- Prices are shown in US dollars with promotions, not a clear euro figure
- Less suited to presentations, documents or video than Canva
Standout against Canva. It treats typography, mockups and print products as the centre of the editor, not as an add-on.
Genially
interactive presentations and learning content from Córdoba
Best for: Teachers, trainers and marketers who want interactive presentations, infographics and quizzes
Genially is provided by Genially Web, S.L., C.I.F. B56019912, Plaza Ramón y Cajal 4, Córdoba, entered in the Mercantile Registry of Córdoba. Its terms apply Spanish law and the courts of Madrid, except where the user is a consumer and the law gives a different court.
Its Free plan gives 2 GB of storage and 500 AI credits, and you can import PPTX, Google Slides and PDF files. You can download creations as SCORM 1.2 or later for learning platforms. Only the Pro plan is billed monthly. The Master, Author and Enterprise plans are billed annually, and no amounts appear in the plan text.
It is a different product from Canva, not a copy of it. It is best where interactivity (clickable images, branching, quizzes) matters more than a large library of print templates.
What Genially does better than Canva
- Interactive content: clickable layers, quizzes, branching and games
- SCORM export for learning platforms
- Spanish company with an entry in the commercial register and Spanish law
- Imports PPTX, Google Slides and PDF files
Where Genially is a step down from Canva
- No print-first workflow for flyers, cards and merchandise like Canva's
- Prices are not stated in plain text, so check the plans page for current figures
- Annual billing on all plans except Pro
- The legal notice on the site was last updated in 2021
Standout against Canva. It builds interactive pages, not only static slides, and exports SCORM.
VistaCreate
the closest to Canva in shape, with a Cypriot operator and New York law
Best for: People who want a template editor for social posts, print and short videos that feels like Canva
VistaCreate's terms say the site is owned and operated by Crello Limited, a Cyprus company, 1 Anastasi Sioukri, Themis Court, Limassol. They add that VistaCreate is part of the Cimpress plc group of companies. Section 13 chooses the law of the State of New York and New York courts.
Its homepage lists formats for social media, print, ads, web animations and presentations, and describes itself as a free graphic design tool with thousands of free templates. The title of the page mentions 200,000+ free templates.
That makes it the nearest match in how you work. The trade-off is the legal one: a European contracting entity, but an American governing law, which is closer to Canva's situation than the German and Spanish tools here. Its pricing page could not be read, so no amount is quoted.
What VistaCreate does better than Canva
- Familiar template-first editor for social, print, ads and animated formats
- Free to start, with a large template library by its own count
- Contracting entity in the EU (Cyprus)
- Photo editor, video tools and an API listed on the same site
Where VistaCreate is a step down from Canva
- New York law and New York courts in the terms, not European law
- Part of Cimpress, a large group, so not an independent European company
- Prices could not be read when this page was written
- Not an all-in-one product, so expect to use a second tool for some jobs
Standout against Canva. It is the one European tool here that feels like Canva on the first day.
Pitch
a presentation-first tool from Berlin with a free plan
Best for: Teams and startups that mainly use Canva for slide decks
Pitch is run by Pitch Software GmbH, Joachimstraße 7, Berlin, entered at the Amtsgericht Charlottenburg as HRB 193605 B. Its terms of use (version 1.1.3, 29 May 2026) are governed by German law, with the Landgericht Berlin as the exclusive venue where the law allows. Paid plans are offered only to businesses, not consumers.
The Free plan lets you create unlimited presentations, with 100 AI credits that do not renew. Plus, Team and Business plans add custom fonts, video uploads, PowerPoint export and more AI credits. Prices are per seat and shown in the visitor's currency, so no amount is quoted here.
It does only presentations. It does not make social posts, posters or print, which is the reason it ranks below the broader editors.
What Pitch does better than Canva
- Registered German company with a published commercial register number
- Free plan for unlimited presentations, with team collaboration
- PowerPoint export on paid plans
- Clear German-law terms with a named court
Where Pitch is a step down from Canva
- Presentations only, with no social, print or video templates
- Paid plans are for businesses only, so not for private buyers
- Free plan has a small, non-renewing AI credit allowance
- Presentation templates only, nothing for other formats
Standout against Canva. It does one job, decks, and its free plan has no cap on how many you make.
- Which law reaches it. EU (Austria). Canva is operated from Australia, outside the EU and without an adequacy decision, so transfers rest on contractual safeguards rather than on the data staying inside the EEA.
- Where the data sits. Your device; optional cloud sync.
- Source code. Closed source, as Canva is.
Best for: Illustrators, designers and brand teams who want vector graphics and keyframe animation
Linearity GmbH, Prinzenstraße 2a, 42697 Solingen, is the provider named in its imprint (Amtsgericht Düsseldorf, HRB 79971) and in its terms (version 1.1, 5 January 2026). The terms apply German law and exclude the United Nations sales convention, with consumers keeping the mandatory rules of their home country. Our other page on Linearity calls it Austrian, but its own imprint gives a German address, and that is what this page follows.
Its apps are Linearity Curve (vector design) and Linearity Move (animation). The Free plan has 250 introductory credits, 1 brand and 5 GB of cloud storage. Pro is listed at €8 a month on annual billing or €10 monthly, and Team from €25 or €30, all including VAT.
It is a design tool, not a template library. Its business pages describe locked templates and brand systems for teams, but for quick social posts and flyers a template editor will be faster.
What Linearity does better than Canva
- Vector and animation depth that Canva does not aim for
- German GmbH with a public register number and German law
- Prices in euros including VAT on its own page
- Free plan with AI background removal and upscaling
Where Linearity is a step down from Canva
- Much smaller template and stock library than Canva
- More learning curve for non-designers
- Credit-based AI tools limit heavy use on the free plan
- Check which platforms your team uses, because the apps are listed in the App Store
Standout against Canva. It combines vector design and keyframe animation under one German contract with euro pricing.
Design Wizard
a small Irish template editor with a free Basic plan
Best for: Small businesses that want quick social images and short videos from templates
Design Wizard is operated by Wave Break Media Limited, an Irish company, number 426883, Unit 3 Westpoint Business Centre, Ballincollig, Co. Cork, VAT number 9580419H. Its terms say they are read exclusively under Irish law with the courts of the Republic of Ireland, and exclude the UN sales convention.
Its pricing page lists a Basic plan at $0 and a Pro plan at $9.99 a month or $89 billed annually, shown in US dollars. Pro adds image, font and video uploads, 1 GB of storage, direct social sharing and video features such as animated text.
It is a simple, narrow tool. That helps if you only post to social media, and limits you if you need many print formats.
What Design Wizard does better than Canva
- Irish company with a registered number and Irish courts
- Free Basic plan, and a Pro plan listed at $9.99 a month
- Simple template workflow for social images and short videos
- Direct sharing to social media on Pro
Where Design Wizard is a step down from Canva
- Prices are in US dollars, not euros
- Fewer formats than an all-in-one editor
- 1 GB of storage on Pro is small for brand assets
- Focused on images and short videos, not documents or decks
Standout against Canva. It keeps the template idea small and cheap, from a company registered in Cork.
- Which law reaches it. EU (France). Canva is operated from Australia, outside the EU and without an adequacy decision, so transfers rest on contractual safeguards rather than on the data staying inside the EEA.
- Where the data sits. EU (France).
- Source code. Closed source, as Canva is.
- Independently checked. GDPR.
Best for: Online sellers and marketing teams that edit lots of product images
Photoroom is provided by Photoroom SAS, 229 rue Saint-Honoré, Paris. Its terms apply French law with the courts of Paris to customers in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, and the law of the State of New York elsewhere. Consumers in the EU keep the mandatory protections of their own country.
It is built around product photography: background removal, AI backgrounds, shadows, image generation and batch exports. Its pricing page lists Pro, Max and Ultra plans by AI credits and exports, in US dollars, with a free trial.
It is not a layout or print tool. Use it for the images and a template editor for the flyers and posts around them.
What Photoroom does better than Canva
- French entity with French law and Paris courts for EMEA customers
- Batch background removal and product-scene tools that Canva handles less directly
- AI shadows, fashion models and virtual try-on aimed at sellers
- Credit and export limits are shown on its pricing page
Where Photoroom is a step down from Canva
- Narrow scope: images, not general design
- Prices are shown in US dollars, so no amount is quoted here
- Credit-based plans can run out with heavy use
- No presentations, print layouts or documents
Standout against Canva. It is built for sellers who edit hundreds of product images, not for general layout work.
Mediamodifier
a Tallinn mockup generator with a design editor and ad builder
Best for: Sellers and marketers who need mockups, simple designs and ad banners
Mediamodifier is owned and operated by MEDIAMODIFIER OÜ, Tatari tn 6, Tallinn, according to its terms of use. The version we could read was updated on 1 December 2021, and it names no governing law, so that point is not stated here. We did not check the Estonian register code.
Its site lists a mockup generator, a design editor, an ad builder, free PSD mockups, an SVG editor and image tools. The Starter tier is free with 100+ design templates, 1300+ fonts and free image tools. The Professional plan is shown in US dollars with a promotion, so no amount is quoted.
It is stronger on mockups than on general design. For Etsy listings, book covers and social posts it is useful, but design is secondary to mockups.
What Mediamodifier does better than Canva
- Mockup generator with 10,000+ mockup templates by its own count
- Free Starter tier with templates, fonts and image tools
- Estonian company with a named address
- Ad builder for banners
Where Mediamodifier is a step down from Canva
- Terms on the site date from 2021 and name no governing law
- Design library is not the focus, mockups are
- Prices are in US dollars with promotions
- Less suited to presentations and documents
Standout against Canva. Mockups are the centre of the product, with a design editor built next to them.
- Which law reaches it. EU (Spain). Canva is operated from Australia, outside the EU and without an adequacy decision, so transfers rest on contractual safeguards rather than on the data staying inside the EEA.
- Where the data sits. Your own infrastructure, or Penpot cloud.
- Source code. Open source, where Canva is not: you can read what it does rather than take the description on trust.
Best for: Design and development teams who want a self-hostable design tool with a free cloud plan
Penpot's terms are with Kaleidos Subsidiary S.L., NIF B24967721, Max Aub 5, Madrid. They are governed by Spanish and applicable EU law, with the courts of the city of Madrid, and give users the European Commission's online dispute resolution platform. The version we read is dated 5 August 2025.
The project describes itself as open source and can be self-hosted. Its pricing page lists a free Professional plan on the cloud, an Unlimited plan at $7 per editor a month capped at $175 a month, and Enterprise at $25 per member a month.
It is a Figma-style tool for interface design, design systems and prototypes. It is not a template-first editor, and a non-designer who wants a quick Instagram post will find Canva or Kittl quicker.
What Penpot does better than Canva
- Open source and self-hostable, so you can run it on your own server
- Free cloud plan with no feature cut stated on its pricing page
- Spanish entity, Spanish and EU law, Madrid courts
- Built for design systems and developer handoff
Where Penpot is a step down from Canva
- Few ready-made marketing templates compared with Canva
- Steeper learning curve for non-designers
- Not a presentation, print or video tool
- Prices are in US dollars
Standout against Canva. It is open source, so a design team can host it themselves.
Datawrapper
Berlin tool for charts, maps and tables, free to start
Best for: Journalists, analysts and communications teams who publish data graphics
Datawrapper is provided by Datawrapper GmbH, Kreutzigerstraße 26, Berlin. Its terms say that disputes and use of the service are governed exclusively by German law.
Its pricing page lists a Free plan with interactive charts, maps and tables and PNG download, Pro at $21 per user a month excluding VAT with PDF and SVG export and no attribution line, Business at $39, and Enterprise on request.
It covers only the data-graphics part of what Canva does. Use it when accuracy and clean charts matter more than decoration.
What Datawrapper does better than Canva
- Chart, map and table quality for publishing and reports
- German GmbH and German law
- Free plan with embeddable interactive charts
- Pricing stated per user, excluding VAT
Where Datawrapper is a step down from Canva
- Charts only, with no posters, social templates or decks
- Free plan keeps the Datawrapper attribution line
- Prices are in US dollars
- Not a general design tool
Standout against Canva. It is built for accurate, publishable charts, not for general design.
- Which law reaches it. EU (Spain). Canva is operated from Australia, outside the EU and without an adequacy decision, so transfers rest on contractual safeguards rather than on the data staying inside the EEA.
- Where the data sits. EU (Spain).
- Source code. Closed source, as Canva is.
- Independently checked. GDPR.
Best for: Designers who mostly need stock vectors, photos and AI images, with some editing
The Freepik website now carries the name Magnific (formerly Freepik). Its terms of use of June 2026 say the site is operated by Magnific AI, S.L.U., registered in the Commercial Registry of Málaga (volume 4994, sheet 217, page MA-113059), tax number B-93183366, Molina Lario 13, Málaga. Disputes go to the courts of Málaga except where the law imposes another jurisdiction.
Its menu lists AI image, video and audio tools, a Designer editor, a mockup generator, an icon generator and a stock library of vectors, photos, illustrations and icons. Pricing is by plan and AI credits, and no amount is quoted here.
It is more an asset and AI platform than a template editor, which is why it ranks last on this page. For Canva users who mainly want stock and AI generation, it fits.
What Freepik (Magnific) does better than Canva
- Large stock library of vectors, photos and icons from a Spanish company
- AI image, video and audio tools in the same account
- Registered entity with commercial register data in its terms
- Courts in Málaga, inside the EU
Where Freepik (Magnific) is a step down from Canva
- Less a template editor than Canva or Kittl
- The service is mid-rename to Magnific, so check which terms and name apply to your account
- Credit-based AI tools with usage limits
- Terms are long and cover several products, so read the licence for your use
Standout against Canva. It is a stock and AI platform first, with an editor attached.
What actually breaks when you switch
The hard part of leaving Canva is your templates, not your account. Designs do not convert into another editor as live files, so list the ten templates you reuse, rebuild them first, and export finished work as PNG, PDF or SVG before you cancel.
Check the licence on the plan you will use. Kittl's Free plan is personal use only, and the other free plans here limit storage, exports or credits. Check the commercial terms before you build client work.
Fonts, brand kits and shared team libraries need to be set up again. Upload your fonts, colours and logos on day one, and test the exports you really send, such as print PDFs or video, not only the screen view.
Is there a European tool that works exactly like Canva?
No single one. The closest in shape are Kittl, VistaCreate and Design Wizard: you start from a template, change the text and images, and export for social, print or video. Kittl is strongest for branding, print and product visuals, VistaCreate has the widest range of formats, and Design Wizard is the smallest and simplest.
None of them matches Canva's range of formats in one product. If you rely on a particular Canva template pack or a team workflow with approvals, test the same task in the free plan of a European tool before you move.
Which of these are best for presentations?
Pitch and Genially. Pitch is a presentation-first tool from Berlin, with a free plan that allows unlimited presentations and paid plans aimed at businesses. Genially, from Córdoba, treats a presentation as interactive content: you can build infographics, quizzes and learning material, import PPTX, Google Slides and PDF files, and export SCORM for learning platforms.
If you only need a standard deck that opens in PowerPoint, Pitch is the closer fit. If you teach or want interactive pages, Genially is.
Which of these have a free plan?
Kittl, Genially, Pitch, Linearity, Design Wizard, Mediamodifier, Penpot and Datawrapper all describe a free plan or tier on their own sites. VistaCreate describes itself as a free graphic design tool. Photoroom and Freepik (Magnific) are mainly paid tools with limited free use, so check what you can export before you rely on them.
Free plans have limits that matter: Kittl's Free plan is personal use only, and Design Wizard's Basic plan is limited to the features listed on its pricing page. Read the limits first.
Does the contract matter for a small business using Canva?
It matters for where a dispute is decided, which law applies and which entity holds your data. With Canva the answer is Canva Pty Ltd in Australia, California law and, for most claims, arbitration. With the tools here, the answer is an entity in the EU or EEA in all eleven cases, and local law and courts in most.
For a hobby or a one-off flyer it hardly matters. For a business that uploads customer photos, client logos or personal data into its designs, it is worth knowing who the counterparty is.
Which one to pick
If you want one tool that feels like Canva and covers branding, print and product visuals, start with Kittl, and with VistaCreate if you want the closest template workflow and accept its New York governing law. Design Wizard and Mediamodifier are smaller, cheaper options for social images and mockups.
If decks are your main use, take Pitch for a plain presentation tool or Genially for interactive content. If vector work or animation matters, take Linearity. For product photos use Photoroom, and for charts use Datawrapper.
Be realistic about the gap. Canva is a broad all-in-one product that no single one of these matches in range, and none of them imports a Canva design as an editable file. Switch if you want a European contracting party and local courts, and keep Canva for the one thing you cannot yet replace.
Frequently Asked Questions
It depends on the job. Kittl is the best all-round pick on this page if you make branding, print and product visuals, because it combines templates, mockups, AI tools and a free plan under German law. Genially or Pitch is better for presentations, and Linearity for vector work. None replaces everything Canva does.
No. Canva is based in Sydney, Australia. For customers billed outside the United States and the UK, its terms name Canva Pty Ltd, 110 Kippax St, Surry Hills, NSW, as the contracting entity. Australia is neither in the EU nor in the EEA.
The law of the State of California, according to its terms of use. Most claims go to binding arbitration under American Arbitration Association consumer rules, with a class-action and jury-trial waiver, and any court case in the United States is filed in the Northern District of California or the state courts in Santa Clara County. The terms also say they do not affect consumer rights that cannot by law be waived.
This page does not quote Canva prices. Canva's own pricing page could not be read when this was written (the site refused automated access), so no figure could be checked. Look at the pricing page in your own browser.
Linearity lists Pro at €8 a month with annual billing or €10 monthly, and Team from €25 a month annually or €30 monthly, all including VAT. Design Wizard lists Pro at $9.99 a month or $89 a year.
Penpot lists Unlimited at $7 per editor per month, capped at $175 a month, and Datawrapper lists Pro at $21 per user per month excluding VAT. Kittl, Photoroom and Mediamodifier show prices in US dollars with promotions, so no amount is quoted here.
Its operator is. VistaCreate's terms say the site is owned and operated by Crello Limited, a Cyprus company in Limassol, and that VistaCreate is part of the Cimpress plc group. The same terms choose the law of the State of New York and New York courts, so it is a European entity with an American governing law.
The Freepik site now carries the name Magnific (formerly Freepik), and its terms of use of June 2026 say the website is operated by Magnific AI, S.L.U. in Málaga, Spain, with disputes before the courts of Málaga except where the law requires otherwise. It is now mostly a stock library and an AI image and video platform with a Designer tool, so it fits Canva users who mainly need stock assets and AI generation.
Not as live, editable files. Download finished designs as PNG, PDF or SVG for your archive, and rebuild your templates in the new tool. Genially imports PPTX, Google Slides and PDF files, and Pitch exports to PowerPoint on paid plans, which helps if your decks live in those formats.
Only for a specific user. Penpot is an open-source design and prototyping tool from Kaleidos in Madrid, built for teams of designers and developers, with a free cloud plan and the option to self-host. It has far fewer ready-made marketing templates than Canva, so it suits teams who design interfaces and brand systems, not people who want a quick Instagram post.
Photoroom, from Paris. It is built around product images: background removal, AI backgrounds and batch editing for catalogues. For EMEA customers its terms apply French law and Paris courts. It is not a layout or print tool, so pair it with a template editor if you also design flyers and posts.
Yes, in two different ways. Datawrapper, from Berlin, makes charts, maps and tables with a free plan, and is the better choice for data graphics. Genially builds infographics and interactive pages from templates. For a one-off chart in a social post, a template editor such as Kittl or VistaCreate is quicker.
